The Friday Post!

Well hello there.  Have I told you recently how fabulous you are?  No?  Well it would be very remiss of me not to put that right, so I shall,  straight away.  You are totally gorgeous.  Your hair is a great colour and the cut and style really suits you.

Your eyes … how incredible they are.  They light up your face in a way which shows that slightly mischievous imp which lives within you and sometimes pops out for a bit of fun..  Boy, do they twinkle merrily!

Your smile …  go on…  smile for me.  Give me one of those smiles which reaches your eyes and makes your whole face glow.  Give me a smile which tells me that your happy in the moment your living in right now.  Crumbs you’re so fabulous.

I’m so blessed to have you in my blogging life.  Thank you for being here.

Well, I don’t know about you but it’s been a really trying week in my world.  My littlest cat, Maisie Doates, had a bit of a run in with the neighbourhood feline bully, and she came home on Monday in a bit of a battered and bleeding state.  From Tuesday she began being sick about three times a day.  By Thursday morning she was still the same – although quite bright in herself, – so an appointment was made with the vet,  and, much to her disgust, I took her to see the vet in the cat carrier.

She wasn’t impressed at how lovely the vet was, and wasn’t overly happy about the two injections which she had to have.  However … I fear that she’s going to be even less impressed with the nasty tasting (the vet told me) medicine which I have to force into her using a syringe.  That’s going to be a fun time this lovely Friday morning.

The day previously:  On Wednesday it was pouring down with rain … and we discovered we had a leaky roof in the conservatory.  [BIG sigh].  Mr.Cobs thankfully managed to find where the problem was and following a trip to the big DIY (B&Q for the UK folks) shop, he came home armed with the stuff which he told a wobbly lipped me that I was to stop worrying and stressing, and he was going to fix the problem.  And … he did!  God Bless Mr.C.  I’m thinking that I should keep him.

And on Tuesday:  On Tuesday this week … I decided that the blood-shot eye which I’d called my Doctor about last week (and who prescribed some gel stuff with the warning that if it got worse or didn’t seem to be getting better, then I had to go in and see him urgently),  well, it seemed  to be getting worse.  (I knew he was going to tell me off, because I shouldn’t have left it as long as I did).  Off to the Surgery and saw the Doctor.  He examined my eye and said: “I want you to go directly to the Acute Referral Eye Clinic straight away.  I’ll phone them and tell them you’re coming”.

Cutting a long story short … I found out on Tuesday that not only did I have an infection in my eye, I also had a Corneal Ulcer and … just to add a bit of salt to the situation … I was told I had a cataract in that eye too.  Ha!  My eye’s having a party and I didn’t get the invite!  How very dare it!

Summing up ….  I shall be glad to see the end of this week.  I’ll be packing its bags and watching it walking off into the sunset.

But … enough of my cr@ppy week ….  shall we have a little fun with some …

FRIDAY  FACTOIDS

Emus cannot walk backwards.

Giraffes have no vocal cords. (Here I was, thinking they just didn’t want to talk to me) ::)

There are more than a 1,000 chemicals in a cup of coffee, of these only 26 have been tested and half caused cancer in rats.

On the subject of coffee here’s some other coffee ‘stuff’

Caffeine and Its Effects

Caffeine is the most important chemical in coffee. It is an odourless and slightly bitter solid. Caffeine mostly affects the brain, kidneys, and the cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels) system, but it also increases metabolism and breathing. A five ounce serving of regular coffee contains about 90-125 milligrams of caffeine; whereas, an equal amount of tea only contains 30-70 milligrams of caffeine.

A soft drink only has about 37 milligrams of caffeine per five ounces.

Coffee has several effects on the human body:

It helps to increase circulation of the blood
It can cause nervousness and loss of sleep when taken in large amounts
It can speed up a person’s thoughts
It produces a feeling of well-being
It gives some people the ability to memorize simple numbers, concepts, and thought sequences easier

If you drink one or two cups several times a day, coffee will have little effect on the cardiovascular system.
However, if you drink three to four cups several times a day, it will slow your pulse rate, raise blood pressure, contract blood vessels that are right under the skin, and dilate blood vessels of the kidneys, muscles, skin, and heart.

Finally, on the coffee factoids:  … caffeine makes the heart contract harder while it’s pumping.

Maybe we should all switch to decaf.

Women blink nearly twice as much as men.

Winston Churchill was born in a ladies’ room during a dance.

There are more chickens than people in the world.

Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite!

If the population of China walked past you, 8 abreast, the line would never end because of the rate of reproduction.

Ten Obscure Factoids Concerning Albert Einstein

1. He Liked His Feet Naked

“When I was young, I found out that the big toe always ends up making a hole in the sock,”  he once said. “So I stopped wearing socks.”  Einstein was also a fanatical slob, refusing to “dress properly”  for anyone. Either people knew him or they didn’t, he reasoned – so it didn’t matter either way.

2. He Hated Scrabble

Aside from his favorite past-time sailing (“the sport which demands the least energy”), Einstein shunned any recreational activity that required mental agility. As he told the New York Times, “When I get through with work I don’t want anything that requires the working of the mind.”

3. He Was A Rotten Speller

Although he lived for many years in the United States and was fully bilingual, Einstein claimed never to be able to write in English because of “the treacherous spelling”.  He never lost his distinctive German accent either, summed up by his catch-phrase  “I vill a little t’ink”.

4. He Loathed Science Fiction

Lest it distort pure science and give people the false illusion of scientific understanding, he recommended complete abstinence from any type of science fiction. “I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.”  He also thought people who claimed to have seen flying saucers should keep it to themselves.

5. He Smoked Like A Chimney

A life member of the Montreal Pipe Smokers Club, Einstein was quoted as saying: “Pipe smoking contributes to a somewhat calm and objective judgment of human affairs.”  He once fell into the water during a boating expedition but managed heroically to hold on to his pipe.

6. He Wasn’t Much Of A Musician

Einstein would relax in his kitchen with his trusty violin, stubbornly trying to improvise something of a tune. When that didn’t work, he’d have a crack at Mozart.

7. Alcohol Was Not His Preferred Drug

At a press conference upon his arrival to New York in 1930, he said jokingly of Prohibition: “I don’t drink, so it’s all the same to me.”  In fact, Einstein had been an outspoken critic of  “passing laws which cannot be enforced”.

8. He Equated Monogamy With Monotony

“All marriages are dangerous,” he once told an interviewer. “Marriage is the unsuccessful attempt to make something lasting out of an incident.”  He was notoriously unfaithful as a husband, prone to falling in love with somebody else directly after the exchanging of vows.

9. His Memory Was Shot

Believing that birthdays were for children, his attitude is summed up in a letter he wrote to his girlfriend Mileva Maric: “My dear little sweetheart … first, my belated cordial congratulations on your birthday yesterday, which I forgot once again.”

10. His Cat Suffered Depression

Fond of animals, Einstein kept a house cat which tended to get depressed whenever it rained. Ernst Straus recalls him saying to the melancholy cat: “I know what’s wrong, dear fellow, but I don’t know how to turn it off.”

Here’s an interesting little exercise.

How smart is your right foot?
This is from an orthopaedic surgeon . . .
It will boggle your mind and you will keep trying over and over again to see if you can outsmart your foot, but you can’t.  It’s preprogrammed in your brain!

While sitting where you are at your desk in front of your computer or on a comfy chair etc, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with your foot and ankle.

Now, while doing this, draw the number ‘6’ in the air with your right hand.  Your foot will change direction.

See?!!!   And  . . .  there’s nothing you can do about it!

You and I both know how stupid it is,  but before the day is done you are going to try it again,  if you’ve not already done so.

And with that, I shall bid you a fabulous last Friday of June, and a truly wonderful weekend.

Be the reason someone smiles today.

With much love, and a barrel of squidges  ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Hello Anne, Happy Friday.
Thank you so much for your good wishes. The antibiotic/steroid eye drops they gave me at the hospital are already beginning to work, so I think I’m on the right track!
Glad you have a fun read.
Thank you so much for coming Anne. It’s fabulous to see you.

  1. Oh, Cobs! I am so sorry to hear about your cat, roof and most importantly your eye. How are you holding up? That had to be a little scary or at least I would be scared. Hopefully, all is well and you will have better eyesight than before.

Not sure how I felt reading about coffee’s ill effects as I sat reading with a cup of it poised at my lips.:) It does make me think and I know I need to give it up. When I drink too much I have eyesight issues so I am sure it is doing a number on my blood pressure. Thanks for the wake-up call!

As for the foot, that makes a lot of sense to me since the right side is controlled by the left hemisphere of the brain. This is why we technically can not “multitask” we technically can only do one thing at a time. We might be organized enough to do one thing that helps others get done but not all at once. (Having two kids with Dyslexia one tends to read a lot of brain research). With that said, if you start moving your right foot and then use your left hand you can do it. 🙂

Anyways, thank you again for all the great “factoids”! My thoughts are with you and your eye health. I truly hope it all heals well and you are as good as new! Sending you good healing thoughts from the states!

P.S. I hope you did something about that bully cat. That owner should pay the vet bills!

    1. Hello Morning Scrapper!
Thank you so much for your good wishes. The antibiotic/steroid eye drops they gave me at the hospital are already starting to do their magic. They eye is less bloodshot and it feels more comfortable too. However, I’m being extra careful and am more aware of anything that might possible go into my eye, … and this episode has taught me how reckless we are with our eyes and sight. I never knew you could get this type horrible problem(s) literally from doing nothing! The cateract – well that’s not going to go away, but at the moment it’s not causing me too much of a problem. I just thought I needed new glasses and that my eye sight in that eye was getting worse. Who knew?!!

The coffee facts … I KNOW!!! It made me stop and think about the amount of coffee I drink, and wonder if I could perhaps turn that ‘love’ down a little. eeek!

The foot twisting and No.6 thing … when I tried that it actually made me laugh out loud. I tried again – same result. If I try and switch my brain off, I can sort of do it – but it’s a struggle and you can see that it’s a struggle.

Thank you for your good wishes MS, bless your beautiful heart.

PS … the bully cat … can’t really do anything about it. Miss Doates here just has to learn she mustn’t go near it or engage with the fight. Silly little monkey that she is. tsk tsk. ❤ ~ C. xx

  2. Happy Friday! The foot trick works!:And now I know a giraffe has no vocal cords I shall stop trying to work out what house they make. When we sing Old MacDonald to the children, Mr C has a naughty habit of introducing the more unusual animals as a test to see if I can make their noises, and giraffes are one he has tried to get me to do! Anyway, have a lovely weekend x x

    1. Happy Friday to you too Mrs. Craft. 😀
The Giraffe …. I know! That one was a surprise to me too. But when I began to think about all the trips to the zoo we made as the girls were growing up, and also the Safari Parks (those places scare the living daylights out of me) – I began to realise that actually .. I’d never heard a Giraffe make any sort of noise! I just thought (I think) that they were peaceful animals who would only make a noise if they were in danger or being attacked. But … they have no voice!! Made me feel a little sad for them.

Laughed about the Old MacDonald and Mr.C … bless his heart. LOL.
Wishing you a fabulous Friday and an even more wonderful weekend with your family.

  4. Good morning to you! And it had better be a good one…there…just booting your cr@ppy week up its backside to send it on its way…
Sorry to hear about your eye trouble, but at least you have treatment under way. Techniques are advancing all the time – can you take any supplements for eye health?
Lol – the coffee facts…I’ve always had my doubts about it, being a tea drinker myself! Like Einstein…I hate wearing socks, hate Scrabble, used to smoke like a chimney…and that’s it! I’m no genius..lol…we also had a hole in the conservatory roof, but that’s being fixed and hopefully we’ve seen the last of the rain.
Hoping your little cat feels better too, have a good day. Lots of love to you 😺💕xxx

    1. Hello Samantha, fabulous to see you.
The eye trouble … I can feel that the antibiotic/steroid drops are already working. It feels more comfortable and looks less bloodshot too – so things are looking good. Not sure about the supplements for eye health. It’s not something I even so much as gave a thought to before. Which just goes to show how we take our eyes for granted. tsk tsk.

I was blown away when I found out about the coffee and how too many cups could be a bad thing to do. I’m the opposite of you, I only drink coffee. I’m not keen on the smell of tea.

Good to hear that your conservatory roof was fixed. Mr.Cobs did the fixing and I think it’s solved the problem. So far, so good.
Thank you so much for coming for a coffee (tea) moment with me, and thank you for your good wishes too – both for me and Miss Cat here.

  5. Hello, dear Cobs! Sorry to hear about your cat’s fight (hope she is on the mend!). And your leaky roof (go, Mr. Cobs!). Why did you wait for your eye to get worse??? I am glad you have medication for it now. Do not fret too much about the cataract – they have that procedure down to a lickety split kind of thing. Have a nice weekend!

    1. Hello Kathy, fabulous to see you.
The kitty cat… after her two injections by the vet yesterday, she seems more alert and so far (fingers crossed) she hasn’t been sick again. Her wounds from the cat fight will take a little while to show improvements, but she’ll ‘mend’, (I hope!)

My eye … well, see, here’s the thing… I’m AMAZING at making sure everyone else is ok and if something needs seeing, then I’ll bundle people into my car and take them to whatever they need to go to. However … myself, I’m rubbish at looking after myself. I’ve always put myself last and seen to everyone else first, telling myself that whatever’s wrong with me will get better if it’s given time, or I bathe it, care for it, bandage it myself. Sometimes I’m right. Sometimes I’m an idiot. This time … I was an idiot. Total, 100% numbskull.

Not fretting about the cataract – my mum had cataracts and they were fixed once they became a real problem to her. At the moment this isn’t causing me too many problems, but it does explain why the sight in that eye is worse and why I keep telling myself that I need new reading glasses. Turns out it’s not me imagining I have a wonky eye! LOL

Thank you so much for coming Kathy, it’s such a joy to chat with you.
Have a blessed rest of your day, my fabulous blogging friend.

  6. Oh Cob…So sorry about all this. Our eyes are just one of our parts we don’t really appreciate until something goes wrong. Do what ever you need to do to get it back to normal. Love the little jack-n-box. Cute.
Now about Mr. Einstein and his pipe. After years of owning and working around an inland marina and water Troy always said when you add a pipe smoker and water you have trouble. LOL Love you all and so glad Mr. Cob was able to fix the leak. We are manpower short around here and I fully appreciate his talents.

    1. Hello wonderful friend.
I’m looking after the eyes, and being careful and sensible. Not getting in the way of any breezes (natural ones or ones from the fan) so that nothing can fly into my eye and give me another problem Eeeek! And I’m putting the antibiotic/steroid drops into my eye religiously. I think things are working as my eye seems less bloodshot and more comfortable. Although it still looks a bit puffy and like someone has given me a thump for being so cheeky. lol.

The hospital were so wonderful and incredibly kind.Apart from when the one nurse had to turn my eyelid inside out…. OH BOY! I had to hang onto the chair and I whined through tightly closed mouth like a baby Rhino! LOL

Einstein and his pipe: I think that Troy made an excellent point. I mean to say … who takes a smouldering fire to water? LOL

I have given Mr.C your words and he went all blushy and giggly like I’ve never seen him before. lol. Bless his heart.

Just thinking about being manpower short like yourself Bev, can reduce me to tears. I really couldn’t cope on my own, for I’m useless with this sort of stuff. I’d be bankrupt within a month having to employ people to come and fix things.

Love you to the moon and back Beverly.

So … so far so good.
(she’s going to hate me in about an hour though …. ’cause she has to have another syringe of the mega minty smelling stuff)

I definitely think Mr Cobs is a keeper, in fact you should lock the doors and don’t let him out again (unless it’s with you or to B&Q), as he may get kidnapped by a Cruella De Vile. 1. Time .. to find this stuff …. the majority of the stuff I’ve know for donkey’s years. It’s just a case of getting from the back of my mind. Other bits well they’re either things I’ve read in the past week or two or just things which have kind of popped up in my mind and I’ve gone in search of some information …. and I find out stuff which tickles me. I’m an easy to tickle person and that inner child of mine is constantly on the look out for the ‘fun’, so naturally it pops it’s head up often. LOL.

Horribilis Septem? Really? wow, I didn’t know that. I thought it meant something other than that … but you know what you’re talking about and I never know what I’m yacking on about. LOL.

  10. Oh my! Your poor eye! I so hope it heals fast! I am a coffee drinker, but I seem to dump more down the drain than down the throat…I don’t like it cold. Now tea, I could drink it either hot or cold, so more goes down the throat than the drain. Yes, I’m so glad this week went “bye bye”, at least part of it anyway! On Monday, we had computer system problems at work that kept us from being able to do anything most of the day…and it continued on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and yes again on Friday! Not being able to do much caused a lot of panic, this being the final week of the month AND the quarter, not to mention payroll! Yikes! It was fast and furious when the system was available, and a lot of finger tapping when it was down. We were told that the internet service provide was having issues with their equipment. Hopefully it will be fixed when we return to work on Wednesday….yes, we have the day off Tuesday begin the 4th of July, and I took Monday off….yeah! Four days off! What am I going to do with myself!!! LOL! And those facts! Wow! Yes, I am trying to keep my right foot going clockwise while writing a “6” in mid-air! LOL! Darn foot know better I guess! LOL! Thanks for sharing! Hopefully this coming week will be much better!

    1. Hello Nancee.
The eye … is on the mend! The antibiotic/steroid drops that the hospital prescribed are dealing with the problems brilliantly. Not quite so bloodshot now, and a lot more comfortable. Still light sensitive – but if you’d have seen what it looked like you would understand why it’s still a bit icky about the light. Sunglasses are coming in handy – even in the house! lol.

Computer problems… oh my word! I can imagine how much it would have affected your office. The Payroll must have worried a lot of people. I hope you managed to at least get that done so that folks could eat and pay their rent/mortgage.

Four days off! Ooooo what a lucky girl. But yes.. what on earth will you do with yourself for four whole days?? LOL!!

I’m thrilled to bits that you enjoyed the read and I too am hoping that this coming week is going to be far better than the one we’ve just said goodbye to.
Hope everything for you is working tickey boo, and that you manage to catch up on all the work which you were unable to do.

Everything is working a little better.
The eye is improving, thanks to the antibiotic/steroid drops which the hospital prescribed. It’s still a little tender, but it’s a lot more comfortable now. Thankfully.
The conservatory … well it hasn’t rained a great deal since Mr.C did his repair job, but for the little bit of rain which did fall a couple of days ago, it seems (crosses fingers) to be fine and groovy.

Like you … I’m not giving up coffee either. I cannot function in the morning until my 3rd cup. (Yes I admit it)! lol

The eye is now on the mend and feeling more comfortable.

Having a handy spouse is such a blessing isn’t it. I thank Heavens daily for Mr.Cobs. He’s so patient with me when I come up with another idea for something he could make. LOL.

Unlike you, I don’t drink tea at all, and haven’t done since I was 13 years old. I don’t like the smell of tea, and even the ‘fragrant’ ones leave me desiring coffee. But I’ll freely admit that I actually do drink a little too much coffee. It’s my ‘drug’ of choice. lol.

  12. Good day Cobs, I am late in responding to your lovely yet not so lovely post today.
So the cat is on the mend, the roof is fixed, coffee should be taken very little, and your eye is on the mend as well. Jolly good. 🙂 However, as I get up off my chair to go and poor my second cup of coffee, I will have to say that this lovely way to start the morning will not be stopped. I just love the flavour of some coffees! I do enjoy my beans. I don’t drink pots and pots of coffee, usually only my two cups in the morning.
Eyes are extremely important and mine have been getting kinda goopy in the mornings for the past week. I am putting that down to fans having to be on and car windows open as wide as they can possibly go while driving. I think it’s just “stuff” blowing around, they are not sore or red or anything, just goopy in the morning. I do have to get into to the optometrist tho’ and get them checked. I think I will be needing glasses glasses not just prescription readers any more. Sometimes vision is kinda blurry but nothing to stop me from “living”.
Thank you for your giggles section and the info about Albert.
I am glad that Mr. Cobs was able to fix the roof. What a week you had, and one that not bare repeating. Things usually happen in threes and you had four so you should be good for a bit now.
    hugs from Canada 🙂
Now I’m off to read todays post from you and grab another cup of coffee. giggle giggle

Yes…. cat is eating, no longer being sick and isn’t talking to me twice a day because I have to syringe this MEGA minty stuff into her mouth – as per the vets instructions. She get’s over it around an hour later and she’ll talk to me again then. lol. Poor little kitty cat.

Roof seems to be fixed now (keeping fingers crossed).
And finally … eye is on the mend and feeling a lot more comfortable.

Coffee … no I’m not giving my coffee up either. Particularly the one at 4pm in the afternoon. It’s a special coffee with a tiny amount of cream in it (about half a thimble full – but it really does make a difference and makes me feel grown up and loved – somehow. lol). So I’m with you. Coffee is king!

Thanks so much for coming Soozy. I love seeing you and chatting.
Have a blessed rest of your day, and I hope that your week goes the exact same way. Blessed from Monday to Friday, inclusive!
      Sending love ~ Cobs. x

  13. Oh my goodness, your poor eye! I hope it is on the mend. I got an infection in my right eye about 15 years ago, it was one of the most painful things I ever experienced. It didn’t help that I happen to have been born without sight in my left eye. When that right eye was sick, I was a mess! I’m sending happy, healing thoughts your way. I have thoroughly enjoyed today’s helping of tidbits. I had to laugh at that rascal, Winston, leave it to him to make his debut in a ladies’ room! Enjoy that spot of whimsy when it flutters by!

    1. Hello Landrybaby
The eye is on the mend, thanfully.
Oh my goodness … you must have been in a right old pickle when you had a problem with your eye! One good eye down, the other eye not working at all. Aw, thank Heavens that the good eye eventually got better.

Thank you so much for coming and for leaving a comment.
      Have a blessed day, ~ Cobs. x

    1. Tami … you mustn’t worry about commenting on posts you’ve missed for whatever reason. I know how limited time is and how real life can come and tap us on the shoulder and tell us to get off the net! (so rude … it has no manners!)

I won’t get upset about you not commenting my beautiful friend. I am just over-joyed that you can come and visit one post, for not only does that let me know that everything in your world is ticking along as it should, but it also gets you and I having a conversation…. and a conversation like we have is worth a million comments.

I am so blessed to have you in my life and count you as a friend I might never meet … but a dearly loved friend all the same, for we know each others hearts.
Sending oooodles of love ~ Cobs. ❤
P.S. … the eye is still on the mend and the cat also – but she's mending faster than I am. 'life!' lol. x
