Victorian Christmas ~ a handmade card.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I’d been making some cards which were being sent to the USA, and I was a bit worried that none of them would get there before Christmas.  Well … I had an email a couple of days ago telling me that the one card had arrived at its destination!  So I’m thrilled to pieces to finally be able to share one of them.

This particular card was made especially for Beverly of More Ink Please.  Beverly is a fellow crafter.  She makes the most incredible cards – some of them are amazingly intricate and so, so pretty.  She is also a very talented hand-made book maker.  But … she has but one fault.  She never finds time to blog about them!  She will chat with me about some things that she’s making, but even though I push her to take a photo and pop it onto her blog …. she’s a proper rascal and never does!  tsk tsk.

I decided back at the beginning of November what sort of card I wanted to make for Beverly.  I wanted to make a card with a very Victorian feel, with lots of layers.

Christmas Card for Beverly 2017

The Poinsettia flowers are all handmade and although I cut the centre (black) stamens from cardstock, I gave the flowers their yellow centres by adding some tiny glass beads.

The tiny pine cones you see on the card (covered in [fake] snow) are actually from my garden.   I put Little Cobs to work during the summer, and asked him to collect me some fallen pine cones, but, I told him,  “I want the teeny, weeny, baby ones, because Grammy wants to craft with them and put them on cards”,  and, Bless his little heart, he took his bucket and went around my garden, picking up pine cones and either putting them in his bucket or, after doing a spot check, declaring them  “Too Big!” and discarding them.

He then helped me to put all the baby Pine Cones inside a plastic bag, and zipped it up for me, so that I could force out any insects and part company with them.

I’ve put him on the payroll, and he now gets paid weekly, in cash.

Well look ….  a week before Christmas and I’m only just posting a Christmas Card. Sorry about that  … making them all is taking time and by the time I’ve finished making one, I’m onto the next ‘making’ and … well, time just runs away from me.  It’s that things fault.  Time.  It’s times fault.   Awww, let’s not get into Time and it’s horrors. grrrr.

Thank you so much for coming and having a coffee with me while I chatted away.  I love seeing you.  Especially on a Monday morning before Christmas.  😀

Have a blessed rest of your day my fabulous friend  ~

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Hello, my favourite Rabbit!
Yes, I love Beverly too. It’s difficult not to love her, because she’s just such an incredible young lady.

The photograph really didn’t do this card any favours…. the dark parts around the edges of the card are actually shiny gold embossing, and it makes the card kind of twinkle when the lights catch it. I wish I was a better photographer.

Thank you so much for coming Rabbit.
Sending Happy Monday Wishes … and of course some squidges too! ~ Cobs. xxx ❤

    1. Hello Morning Scrapper 😀
      Thrilled you like the card.
The photo doesn’t do it justice to be honest. All those dark pars around the edges are actually sparkling gold embossing. In real life the gold twinkles and catches the light, but I couldn’t get it to shine in any of the photos I took.

Lovely Little Cobs … my helper. Aw, I’m not sure who’s the boss – him or me! LOL
I absolutely love him to pieces. He’s a bright. shining spotlight in my lifes story. Bless his beautiful little heart.

Thanks for coming M.Scrapper, and for the lovely comment.

    1. Hello beautiful Ruthie!
Aww thank you for your lovely comment. Thrilled you like the card.

Little Cobs and his job of finding the tiny pine cones . . . I have never seen him engage so completely in any ‘job’ ever before. He found pine cones that I doubt I’d have spotted, they were so small. Bless his beautiful heart.
      I love him to pieces.

Thank you for coming Ruthie, it bring’s such a warmth to my heart when I see your name pop up here. A fabulous feeling.
Sending you love and wishing you all the bestest of pre-Christmas wishes. ~ Cobs. xxx ❤

    1. Love you too Beverly. BIG TIME!
I tried to ‘tie’ Little Cobs down to stand still and have his photo taken with the card you made him but he was like a wriggly worm. I’ll get one of him when he comes next time (perhaps with bribery involved to make him stand still just for a moment while I take the photo. lol) and I’ll email it to you so that you can see the joy on his little face. He so loves that card Bev. and he’s really gentle with it too. Bless his heart.
Merry Christmas, my fabulous friend. Sending huge buckets of love and lots of squidges. ~ C. xxx ❤

  4. Oh what a great card! I love the added touch of the pine cones and those beads! Love it! I have finally finished my Christmas cards…on Sunday and put them in the mail on Monday. Whew! I had been so busy at work and was afraid I just wouldn’t have time to make them. I usually pick one design and then make 75 of them! Between friends and our rather LARGE family I don’t have time to make 75 different cards. I have been doing this for the past 5-6 years. Well, it came to Saturday and I hadn’t even started! I worked on Saturday cutting my card stock, scoring the card base and folding it and getting my layers ready. We had a Christmas party to go to from 3-5 so I wanted to be ready for a marathon card making evening. Well, things didn’t quite go as planned. I had been working a lot lately, and have a lot on my plate at work with my boss being on medical leave. I had been working most evenings and some weekends. Well, we got home from the party about 6:15 and I told my husband I was going to put my “comfies” on and then go in my craft room to work on my cards. Well, after I changed clothes, I thought that maybe I would just lay down for about 15 minutes or so as I was so tired. So I did….but 15 minutes turned into 11 hours! Yep! I fell asleep around 6:30 and woke up on Sunday morning at 5:30! I was wide awake at 5:30 so I started putting those cards together. We had another Christmas party on Sunday at 5:00 so I knew I had about 10 hours to get them done. I worked my fingers to the bone, but got them done! After the party on Sunday I addresses them all and on Monday sent them on their way. Monday night I made the kiddos cards, there were only 11! Hopefully in the next couple of days I can post them on my blog. I think I will start on next year’s cards next week! LOL! Thanks again for sharing your card! I am looking forward to seeing more! 🙂

    1. Oh. My. Goodness, Nancee!!!

Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we wait until we’ve set ourselves a near impossible task, and then have to dedicate whole chunks of time, right before ‘the do, on the day’, and wipe ourselves out?

I have told Mr. Cobs that as from 2018, I’m making one Christmas card every week so that the cards will be done and out of the way in good time, leaving the lead up to Christmas for family and very close friends cards and projects.

Yeah …. well, that’s the ‘plan’, at any rate. (Ho. Ho. Ho.) lol

I’ll look forward to seeing your cards pop up on your blog!

    1. Awww, lol…. thank you Mrs.C. Paid staff has become a permanent arrangement. He loves to do jobs and actually wants to work for his pocket money. Bless his heart.
Although … if he’s anything like his Mummy was at his age, that desire to work for pocket money won’t last very long. lol.

    1. He absolutely loved having such an important job to do … plus …. it allowed him access to the craftroom. Normally Grammy doesn’t allow anyone elses feet in her craft room other than her own.

Little Cobs worked out how to get around this ….. he lays on the floor with his feet outside the door, but the rest of his body inside my craftroom. He rests his head on his hands and chats away to me, while I’m looking for (usually) something like: Googly Eyes; Pom Poms; String; Wool; Bits of Ribbon; Pens; Paper; Glue …. or anything else we might need for the project we want to do at the dining room table.
      Bless his beautiful heart. 😀

      1. Ah, he sounds a joy and such a character. My kids know that Mummy’s desk is Mummy’s desk but they can’t help coming to look and prod something from time to time, especially when my Fimo is out! Hannah x
