Mini Men working + Art = “Art Work”

I’ve had this project in my mind for months and monthsWell,  I say  ‘this project’ …  it wasn’t necessarily THIS project, more an idea for a project of this sort which came to me when sitting in my craftroom one day.  Dearest one, Mr. Cobs, had left a used paintbrush in my craftroom, on a bit of paper.  He’d been painting the tongue and groove wainscoting in the bathroom a fabulous shade of blue and this paintbrush signalled the end of the project.  I picked up the brush and admired it.  I loved the blue – so seaside looking.  Very  what I call ‘Martha Stewart blue’ – only a little lighter.

I looked at that paintbrush for what seemed like ages,  and felt an idea forming in my brain.  Ooooh… I liked it!  But . . .  I didn’t actually do anything about it.  Every now and again I’d turn the idea over inside my head but never actually begin it.  That was until last week, when suddenly everything came together.  It was likeThe moon was in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligned with Mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars!  The idea exploded and I decided that this weekend (just gone) I was going to make it happen.

Art Work 2+
The colours in this photograph are, I would say, pretty true to what the colours are in real life

I’d had the little men for months, just waiting for me to get my act together, and I did, and it’s now here.  I’ve given it a name….  Art Work’.  The reason is in the title.  The men are at work, and the whole thing is a piece of my art so:  Art plus Work = Art Work.  🙂

Art Work 3+
I used the flash on the camera for this photo so the colours aren’t quite so ‘true’

So that you can see it from slightly different angles I’ve taken a few photos which kind of look like they’re the same … but they’re not.  I moved the camera each time so that you could get a ‘feel’ for the depth of the piece, and also how the colours work their way up the brush. Art Work 4+

You might not believe this but this brush actually began life over the weekend as a brand new 2″ wide brush.

The fabulous men are, for me,  what makes this ‘come alive’.  One man has a hammer and is making holes in the metal part of the brush – cheeky monkey!  The man in the middle is trying to drill through the surface on which they’re all standing – how dare he try to wreck my art piece!  And finally … the man on the left (as you look at the photos) is trying to peep into the hole which he’s standing by.  I think he’s the one that tickles me the most.  You can actually see how he’s leaning in and shielding his eyes while he peeps.  He looks like he’s a little scared to put his head too close in case something pops out of that hole and bites him!  Eeeek!

taken using the flash on the camera and lit by bright lamps either side of the Art Work – hence the dazzling brightness (sorry about that)

I loved making this and can’t wait to make more.    Me thinks a trip to the local DIY store is on the list, to buy paint brushes!

Mr. Cobs and I came up with lots of fun ideas for many other Works of  (paint brush) Arts, and we had quite a giggle together doing so.  I don’t think it will be long before I’m back with another bit of this style of art.

Well, that’s my bit of Show and Tell for this Mondays session at school.  What about you?  What have you been up to this weekend, my friends?  Been anywhere?  Done anything which made you happy?

Whatever you did ….  I hope your weekend was peaceful and up-lifting, and that you feel re-charged and ready to take on whatever this new week presents you with.  May you have a wonderful week, and if it’s not you tell me and then you and I shall form a very small gang and beat the ‘you know what’ out of whatever it is which has caused you strife.  We may be small but we be MIGHTY!

Sending you love, from my corner to yours,

Sig coffee copy

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Hello Mrs. Craft, lovely to see you!
Aw, I’m absolutely thrilled to pieces that you like it. I feared that no one would ‘get it’ when I clicked to post about it. I think I like this more than I’ve liked anything I’ve posted about, ever before. It has a sort of ‘ticklishness’ about it which I love.
Thank you so much for leaving a message. It means the world to me that you take the time to do so. Bless you.

I too look forward to seeing what this one lonely brain cell dreams up next! LOL.
GREAT to see you Ruthie. Thank you for coming to spend time with me and also a big THANKS for taking the time to leave me a comment. It’s fantastic when folk leave comments, because I get to actually see who’s coming to share a coffee with me.

    1. Ohhh thank you SO, so much PPuff. I’m thrilled to bits that you like it. I was so worried that it was just me who liked this sort of slightly ‘off centre’ kind of art and that it was just my brain which found it lots of fun. Ohh I can’t tell you how much your comment means to me, my blogging pal. Big time – seriously, big time. Bless your heart.

Oh … [giggling like mad here] – I’m sorry about the ear worm. LOL. When I thought of it and as it came out of my fingers, I began to sing it …. and I’ve only just stopped. lol.
Sending oodles of love and squishy stuff ~ Cobs. x ❤

    1. Aw Kim. bless your heart. Not just for your wonderfulness in leaving a message for me, but for your beautiful words and your kind-heartedness.
I’m totally blown away and thrilled to pieces that you like this ‘Art Work’.

As I was making it I could feel this ticklish sort of feeling deep inside me – like my heart smiling and giggling to itself. The whole thing made me smile, from the little men, the colours I’d chosen and even how I’d made the brush look like it was an old thing I’d found in Mr. Cobs shed, – right through to the name. The whole thing tickled me. But … I feared that no one else would ‘get it’, and that I’d fail to make others smile at this bit of fun. Knowing that you’ve smiled is like winning a medal. So thank you dear blogging friend. Thank you for the message, and for just being who you are. For I love who you are.

  2. I have to start by saying, lucky you, with little men just hanging around your home waiting for you!!!! You are so funny.
Now the artwork – I so love this. I haven’t altered a paintbrush this year and seeing this makes me want to go and do just that but I have never reached the heights of joy that you have created here. The use of colours that pop against the black handle and it is beyond clever to have included those wee men. This is nothing less than an absolute triumph!

    1. Ohhh Lynne! Ohhh, thank you so, so much, my much admired blogging friend. I’m .. speechless.
I live in awe of your makes and abilities and have always wished that I could create something as magnificent as you manage to conjur up. (I swear that you have a magic wand in your craftroom).

I love this little bit of Art Work and can’t wait to go and buy some more brushes to make another. I’ve got some really ‘fun’ ideas for more of these.
For you to be here and saying what you’ve said, is such a huge honour and mass of joy to me.
Bless you Lynne. I cannot tell you how much your kind words means to me. Thank you.

        1. oh my dearest Bev. This is just the most awful news. I’m saddened to the heart for you. You had only just recently celebrated your 50th Wedding Anniversary together. I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through.

            1. (nodding) … none of us know what is planned for us. This is why I encourage everyone to live now, and not wait for some day in the future when X and Y and Z are all set up and ‘right’. The right time is now.
