Friday Post:- Vexations!

Well blow me down!  I remembered to make another (the 2nd) ‘Friday Post’!   (I hope you’re impressed…   because I’m stunned!)

This weeks subject matter is . . .

INTERNET   VEXATIONS   annoyed girl

I don’t get ‘vexed’ very often.   I try to have calm, peaceful kind of days, because those are the very nicest of days to have.  However,  sometimes there are some things which will make me have a strop like a two-year old has a tantrum and since I can’t have the abdabs and throw myself on the floor, screaming until someone gives me an ice-cream, I’m doing the next best thing;  I’m sharing two internet vexations with you.

  1. Vexation of the week Number 1  . . .  Websites which are programmed to bring down or pull up a window over the window you actually want to look at, asking you to join their email list.  It used to be just store websites or places who had something to sell which did this, however I’ve encountered some blog sites this week which have this pop up page asking me to become a follower, and unless I filled in the box and joined the e-mail list it wouldn’t let me look at the site because the page wouldn’t close unless I became a follower!    Pop up windows join upBut here’s the thing:  How did I know I wanted to become a follower if I couldn’t look at the site to see if there was something there for me to be interested in?  What a daft idea!    In the end I had to close the whole window in order to get rid of the pop-up.  It’s a bit of a shame because they looked like they had promise …  but I’ll never know.
  2. Vexation of the week Number 2 . . .  Websites which continually have a little window which shoots in from the left or right side of the screen, asking if you’d “like help from one of our advisors?”.  I don’t mind them asking once.  But once I’ve said ‘No thank you‘, I expect them to be polite and leave me alone until I decide that I might want to take up their offer – or not – as the case may be.Personal Shopper windowHowever some of these sites bombard you every time you change page, or sit reading for a nanosecond longer than the site is programmed to feel acceptable.  Even my Banking-on-line is now set up with this type of ‘let us help you’ window. Grrrr. [sigh]

Well … that’s my 2nd ‘Friday Post’,  over and done with.

Do you have any pet hates about the internet? Do share! I’d be interested in having a read.

Anyhoo …. I’m hoping that come Monday I’ll have something crafty worth sharing with you.  I’ve been ‘out of sorts’ this week,  (despite it being my birthday weekhow very dare my rubbish body put a hex on the fun!),  and crafting hasn’t been the glorious joy it normally is.  So I’m going to try to buck up and get some proper crafting in over the weekend.  If you happen to look down on Dorset via the satellite floating above us in the sky, you’ll hopefully see plenty of glitter, puffs of embossing powders, heat spots from my heat gun, and all sorts of bits of paper and card – the rubbish from die cutting – floating up, up, up into the sky.  And if you do see that … then you’ll know who’s doing it!  🙂

May your weekend be as wonderful as you are.

Squidges and Blessings . . .

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. I hate the posts where you have to keep pressing the next button and it lets you see about 3 new words before you have to press again. Haven’t got time for that kind of faffing. Good luck with the crafting, I’m hoping to create a similar effect over Lincolnshire today! 😊

    1. Oh… yes I know the type of website you’re talking about. MSN (the page which loads when I’ve signed out of my email account) can sometimes do a similar thing. I end up closing the window because I’ve worked out that they’ve got too many photos and nothing much to say.

I hope you craft up a storm there, in Lincolnshire, today. Perhaps we could replace the bad ozone with something far prettier, more colourful and one which SPARKLES! aww. . . the very thought of this is making me grin! 🙂

      1. Thanks! Well the kids are involved as we are making birthday cards for Daddy, and they’ve been eyeing up the glitter for quite a while so my house may literally sparkle! Have fun with your craft 😊

  2. I hate that WordPress won’t work properly on my ‘sort-of-tablet-cum-ebook-reader’. It keeps telling me it has stopped working, and asking do I want to wait or close? Frankly, I don’t want to do either of those things! I want it to function properly and promptly, so I can keep up with everyone when I am away from home! Rant over. Should I wish you a Happy Birthday yet?

    1. Hello Ms. Puff.
Hearing your rant and feeling your pain.
My Birthday? … too late. 🙂 I had it. 🙂
(I don’t say when it is as I worry that folks might think I’m kind of pushing for people to say something nice or do something just because, and I’d hate to make anyone feel like that so rather than take the chance, I keep shtum. It’s ‘me’. lol).
Great to see you, as always. Hope your weekend is beautiful in all ways.

        1. aww thank you PP. 🙂 Bless your beautiful heart.
It was a peace filled day, but … the arrival of the Funshine in my Life (aka Grandson) with Birthday presents he’d chosen himself … made the day hysterical. The Birthday presents he chose were: Playmobile Policeman, a stuffy plump heart which he got his mommy to make, and … a paint some vehicles kit, which had a police car, and a burglars car, along with paints, paintbrush and other bits and pieces.
Now … I did for a moment wonder if he’d simply bought himself a few things … but once we got the paints out I could see where he was going with this. ROFL. We had a fun afternoon of playing Police and Burglars, while getting messy with paints. The little darling made my day when he held up the burglars car (now painted) and said: “Take this home, yes? Pweeeeeeeeease!” Of course, he got his wish and I packaged up a bag of things and he held his painted car all the way home. Such fun. I have no idea what my life would be without him in it, and I don’t want to find out either. I love him to the moon and back, plus a whole lot more.
Great to find out you’ve spent some time at the seaside (coast). Which coast?

          1. Sounds like a brilliant day and inspired present choices! I was in East Sussex. The weather was beautiful. coastal life is so much nicer!

            1. [nods in agreement] … Coastal life is quieter, less rushed and (in general) the people are so lovely. My neighbours here are the best in the world and I love them to pieces. We seriously couldn’t have better neighbours.

East Sussex is SO pretty and so calming. I hope you had a fabulous time. xx

  3. Agh! I totally agree with you! Every site seems to do this these days, even the newspaper pages.

And don’t you just hate it when you go to stab the little X in the top right hand corner to delete the pop-up and your stubby little digit actually puts pressure on another part of the add so that it loads that page! You didn’t want that page so why is there a blue line slowly moving east across the top of your phone or pc?

    It’s so annoying!

Thank you for letting me join you in the rant. It always feels better when you’re invited to do it 😊.

    1. I feel so much better knowing that you too have these little annoyances which give a moment of ARRRRGGGHHHH! It is just a moment .. but when that moment happens, boy oh boy does it get my gander going! tsk tsk.

You are welcome to come and join in and have a rant any time you like my friend. Somehow … it kind of takes away the annoyance of something once you’ve got it to pop out of your fingers. 🙂
Great to see you. I was only thinking about you today and wondering what you were up to. Hope everything in your world is fine and groovy.

      1. Ah that’s nice of you to think of me. I’m busy with the school hol activities (keeping Sarah duly entertained for 7 weeks) It was her birthday yesterday and she had a sleepover with 2 friends. I sat down with an excitement in my tummy, knowing that I had about 50 blogs to catch up on. What a wonderful few hours that was! Hope you’re well too xx

        1. Ahhh.. I forgot about the school hollybobs!
But .. I remember them well from when our girls were little. I used to sleep like a log at the end of each day. LOL
Sending good wishes for ‘mummy in school holiday mode’ vitality and strength … and a never ending supply of ideas for those moments when the “I’m bored” words pop up.
