Darling it’s better down where it’s wetter, Under The Sea!

Some of you will remember this happy jellyfish which I made when ‘Playing with Polyfilla‘  at the beginning of June.  I decided that I couldn’t just sit with this making my desk look pretty  (held by one of those  GREAT BIG PEGS), so after some thought,  I decided today to make a card with it.

I made another ‘clam shell’  from a die cut,  (a little like the one on the ‘I’d Swim Oceans for You‘ tag I made a couple of weeks ago), only this time I made the colours inside more muted mother of pearl with softer colours, and edged the ‘shell’ in gold, so that it ‘spoke’ to the card which the Jellyfish was on.

The clam shell was made from a die cut (the darker pink) which I backed with some pale pink card which I drew around the die to get the shape, then once cut out I fixed it to the back of the die cut shell.

It was my original intention to take photographs after the addition of each colour, but … my brain let me down and I forgot.  This is the only photo I remembered to take – at the half way stage.

Six colours of powders, one Gold embossing pad, and a Zig embossing pen, were used to make the clam shell.

All the shells I’ve used on this card (see one of the bigger photos to spot them all) are all real shells (not plastic or resin), but some of them I hand decorated to add a little colour and interest to them …

This is really easy to do, simply using the  very.  fine.  nib. Sharpies.  Because these particular shells are so teeny tiny I had to use the magnifying glass which is on an arm of my craft desk lamp, as I found it really difficult to see the places where my pen had to go next – I was staring so hard I was going ‘boss eyed’, so the magnifying  glass was very much appreciated!

I won’t bore you to tears telling you all the elements of this card because you can see them yourself without me yammering on.  But … if there’s anything you want to know about, or ask where I got something from, or who’s make of something or other I used … anything.  Any thing at all…  you just ask away.  I’m more than happy to share information.

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course).     1. Hello Eva. Happy Wednesday, my lovely blogging friend.
      Yes I make boxes for cards which have any depth to them,or any embellishments which could get damaged or squished by the postal system, and then, if the card is going a long way (abroad) or if the box itself is embellished, I then pack the card and it’s box into a more substantial box so that if it gets thrown around, it will stay safe.

      I’m in a Sea Breeze inspired mood recently so a little more seaside will very likely be popping out of my fingers. lol

      Those clam shells .. I love making them. They’re a bit intensive and a bit of a fiddle, but I really enjoy every step and so like the way they turn out. I wish I was better at taking photographs because these really don’t capture their prettiness.

  5. They are absolutely beautiful and I think the clam is your masterpiece! Isn’t it amazing how much patience you learn through crafting? Those little shells must have taken ages! I was very interested in the fact you used Tonic Nuvo as I have often looked but never bought. I usually go for WOW! embossing powders, but the Nuvo colours look beautiful 🙂 x

      I love seeing you here. You bring such a smile to my face when I see your name.

      The Tonic Embossing Powders … like you I uhmmed and ahhed for a long time before I bought them. I had embossing powders, why did I need any more? In the end I studied the colours and looked at what I was missing in my own embossing powders and decided that I’d make the investment. I’m SO glad I did. There’s something about these powders which is a little different. But – and here’s the thing – I can’t actually explain what that ‘something’ is. I *think* they seem to ‘melt’ a little differently. The colours appear to stay true to the colours you see in the jar, and the colours available are truly wonderful. But that’s as much as I can offer as to why I like them. I just do .. and if they bring out more colours, I’ll absolutely invest in them.

      However … I’ve just recently bought their new Tonic Glitter Embossing Powders … and I’ve tried them a couple of times. At the moment I can only draw an opinion of ‘Nice’.

      I can’t really see the glitter in them too well, as it seems to (kind of) sink to the bottom of the melted powder. Now that might be a user thing. I may be over-heating them. So I’ll reserve a firm opinion until I’ve played with them a little more. If in the next couple of weeks you need to know something better than this, then give me a shout and I will no doubt have played with them some more by then and I’ll give you a more firm opinion.

      But I highly recommend the regular embossing powders – including the silver and gold (the non glittery ones) – as they melt beautifully and leave such a delightful result behind.

  6. Wow! I adore and covet this card, but that clam shell is particularly amazing. It reminds me of a house we went to on holiday in Ireland as children. The whole front of the building was covered in shells, the garden paths, borders, the lot. I think the inside was too but I am not sure – I was only 6! It was just a normal house in a normal street, turned into something amazing to look at. Like you have done here, with regular supplies and objects. Fantastic.

    1. Ohh WOW! That sounds like a fantabulous holiday house. I can imagine how much of an impression it made upon the six year old you – or any child for that matter. Happy childhood days like this are the stuff that life time memories are made of. You remembering this home while you were on holiday, is proof of that.
