Fishful Thinking – or – how to give a gift of money in a card!

A relatives Birthday  and he wanted money as gifts rather than presents from everyone so that he could get enough to buy himself a particular  game for his Xbox One machine.  This sounded brilliant to my ears because it meant I didn’t have to try to find a ‘man’ present (why are men always so difficult to buy for? ).  But then came to problem of how to ‘dress up’ a gift of money so that it looked like I’d at least tried to make something look special and as if I’d made some sort of effort other than just finding a paper clip and putting the money inside a card.

I remembered a card I’d seen on Pinterest and thought that I could ‘go’ with that sort of idea, but change it so that it was my own design rather than someone elses.

So I combined one of his loves – his fish tank and the amazing fish in it,  with the gift of money – and this was the result.

The red fish, big blue fish and the purple octopus are all made from balloons.  Regular sized balloons.

I pushed a little cushion wadding (the stuffing from a cushion pad) into the big blue fish so that it kept its puffy shape.  The red fish and the purple octopus – I simply cut up two balloons to make those.  With the addition of googly eyes they came to life.

The little fish-shaped sentiment at the top of the card (hidden  a little bit by the money) says ‘Fishful Thinking’.  The watery effect behind the fish is made from a piece of plasticky type backing ‘paper’ which I’ve had for aaaages and never found a use for until now.  The shells are plastic adornments which I’ve had for a long time too, and the green water ‘plants’ were cut out with my die cutting machine. as was the window shape cut into the card blank.  Oh … and the bubbles coming from the big fish’s mouth are flat back pearls.  You can just see some other ‘bubble’ – these were made with tiny amounts of hot glue, but I had to practise making these bubbles (A LOT!) before I felt they were the correct shape to glue onto the card.

The receiver LOVED the card and it was said that it was the  best card you’ve EVER, EVER made!.  …… aw … some people are so easy to please, eh?  lol

So .. are you a card maker, do you ‘make’ anything?    Pleeease leave a comment in the box below because I love to talk to people, and if you have a blog then leave me a link and I’ll come and visit you and leave a comment for you too.   Or perhaps do you save your makes to a Pinterest account?  If so, please leave a comment with the link to your Pinterst board and I promise that I’ll visit and leave you comment – I might even ‘like’ and re-pin some of your pins!

Have a great rest of your day!  ~
