The Copper Topped Lavender Mob

I promised, last week, to share with you some Textile Art, made by yours truly. [grins]  – So,  Ladles and Jellyspoons,  may I introduce  …  The Copper Topped Lavender Mob.

Copper Topped Lavender Mob 1

Three enchanted mushrooms mounted on a piece of aged, half round, wood which was cut and sanded smooth for me by Mr.Cobs.

Copper Topped Lavender Mob 9

The wood was treated and sealed, and then finished in a way that I love – it has a soft sheen to it and it’s as smooth as a baby’s you know what!    It has a beautiful softness and warmth about it, and picks out the various shades of natures gift.

The mushrooms began life as part wire armature, with a selection of fabrics which go through a process of:  washing,  – dying,  – staining,  –  then a lot of sewing,  followed by colouring with a type of fabric paintand finally, finished with whatever I felt the mushrooms needed in order to bring them to life.  Everything is sewn by handeven the gills (on the underside) are all hand pleated and stitched into place.   Likewise the frills on the mushroom stalks are sewn and stitched in place by hand.

It’s not a quick craft, but it’s certainly one I’ve fallen deeply in love with.

The end result from all the work and an abundance of patience,  is something magical, normally seen only in The Land of the Fae.

Copper Topped Lavender Mob 2

Although they look quite solid – they actually aren’t.  They do have a gentle stiffness to them – after all, I needed them to hold their shape and be the piece of artwork I wanted them to be.  But when you touch them, they have a ‘give’ or a slight ‘bounce’ – just like the regular mushrooms you buy from the supermarket or greengrocer have.

Copper Topped Lavender Mob 10 copy

The green stuff clambering over the wooden base …  isn’t moss…  well no actually, it is, but it’s not real moss.  But the stones and stone chippings …. well they are realAs are the trail of teeny tiny oak tree leaves.  Yes, they really are real.  How did you harvest oak leaves so small? [I hear you ask] ….  Well, what else would you expect from the Land of Fae?   Tiny fairies,   tiny trees,  teeny tiny oak leaves.  Naturally!

The ‘Copper Tops’ aren’t real copper (of course), the fabulous colour comes from them being blessed by the Sun.  These mushrooms grow in the woodland areas of The Land of Fae, and like nothing more than stretching their necks right up, in order to catch some of the sun rays, ~  from which they get their coppery sun tan!

Oh, and of courseas artists of the world do …  the Copper Topped Lavender Mob are signed on the underside of the base ….

Copper Topped Lavender Mob 7

…. and the Union Jack nestled in the base is there to show they are UK mushrooms, produced in the United Kingdom by a UK artist!

These photographs don’t truly show the incredibleness of this little gang of three,  the pictures don’t share their magic;  nor their extraordinary twinkles which happen when the light catches various parts of them;  neither do the photos share the unbelievable glow they have!  I roped Mr.Cobs in to see if he could capture their amazing magical glow which my camera couldn’t….

Mr.C took the Lavender Mob outside and perched them on the bird bath, hoping that the natural light would enable photos to show exactly how lovely they are.  Sadly it didn’t work.  It would seem that only the naked eye can see these majestic little creatures in all their glory.

I had the most amazing, enjoyable pleasure making these wondersome creations and they encouraged and motivated me to continue my journey with Textile Art.

But … the next magical makes are to be shared another time, for I’ve kept you here more than long enough.

The Copper Topped Lavender Mob have already gone to their forever home.  Daughter No.2 saw them and fell in love with them, so they now live with her, and her husband, and my magical grandson, Little CobsAnd it’s the strangest thing.  but I feel bereft.  It’s kind of like having a child leave home.  I miss their presence.

But … now it’s time to go.

Hmmm ,,,  hang on –  …  there’s something I’m forgetting  … [thinks] … oh crumbs It’s the JOKES….

These are the Jokes Folks!

What do you call a parade of rabbits hopping backwards?

A receding hare-line!

~~~ ❤ ~~~
What rhymes with Orange?
No it doesn’t.
~~~ ❤ ~~~

Why can’t you hear a pterodactyl dinosaur go to the toilet?

Because the ‘p’ is silent.

~~~ ❤ ~~~
I’ll be back with some more Textile Art in the next blog post – only next time it will be something a little different.  Thank you so much for coming and sharing a coffee moment with me.  Have a beautiful Monday, and a truly blessed week.
Much love and and a bunch of squidges ~
Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium
Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3
  1. Good morning dear Cobs and what an absolute delight to have you back and see your truly FABULOUS mushrooms! They are a delight and of course belong on the set of a Walt Disney film – he missed a trick there, not having you for a set designer! They look as if they have walked straight out of “Fantasia” – so clever and lovingly made!
    The jokes…hehehe… “hareline” I’ve missed your jokes!
    A wonderful first post back and I hope you have a lovely day too.
    Lots of love from us to you 🙂 xxx
    1. Hello Samantha! ❤
      Tis lovely to see you. I'm tickled pink that you like the Copper Topped Lavender Mob. :o)
      Oooo, working for Walt Disney … yeah, I could be up for that! Can you imagine what a bundle of fun it must be to work there every day?
      The jokes … I truthfully knew there was something missing at the end of this post as I was drawing it to it's close, but couldn't think what it was. I knew there was something …. but what?! Then the light bulb inside my brain cell came on and shone it's glow onto the dark corner of my brain, and voila! JOKES!
      lol
      Thank you again for coming Sam, and for the really lovely comment.
      Heap of love to you and yours in your corner, from me in mine. xxx
  2. These are so magical I can imagine little fairies dancing around them. They don’t look like fabric at all! Absolutely amazing little mushrooms. I am not surprised at all that they were snapped up by your daughter.
    1. Ohh, thank you Hannah!
      I’m chuffed to bits that you like them and can see that they are a part of the Land of the Fairies!
      I’m so happy that my daughter liked them enough to want to be their owner and custodian. It’s a massive honour to me that she really liked them.
      Aw thanks for coming and sharing a coffee moment with me, my lovely blogging friend.
  3. They are truly magical and so perfectly fae! Beautiful art, thank you so much for sharing them with us.
    Love them, no wonder you felt bereft, I would have struggled to let them go myself but when a loved one falls in love with one of your projects it’s hard not to say no, so speaks the voice of experience lol!
    1. Hello Karen, aw, it’s lovely to see you again!
      I’m thrilled down to my toes to learn that you like The Copper Topped Lavender Mob.
      You’re absolutely right, when a loved one falls in love with a project, it’s hard to ignore that pull in your heart which tells you that you have to gift that ‘thing’ to them.
      You’ve obviously experienced the pull. LOL
      Do you have a blog, Karen? If so, give me the link and I’ll come and visit, and follow!
      Just put the link in a comment here.
      (You can put the link in when you’re commenting, and it then makes the link where your name (‘Karen’) appears, if you’d like).
      Thank you so much for coming and sharing some time with me. It’s a real pleasure to see you.
      Sending squidges from me in my corner to you in yours. ~ Cobs. x
  4. Now isn’t that just the cutest thing! I love it! I can see the “glow”. What a wonderful little piece! Sorry you had to part with it, but at least you get a visit once in awhile! How is little Cobs doing? Hope all is going well with him! Have a wonderful Monday and an even better week!
    1. Hiya Nancee!
      Aww, glad you like the Copper Topped Mob of Mushrooms – and tickled pink that you can see the glow!
      Little Cobs is growing fast! But then … his mommy (daughter No.2) is tall, and his dad is a beautiful giant of a man who I have to practically break my neck to look at because he’s so tall – so I tend to wait until he’s sat down to look him in the face. lol.
      I think I’m going to have to find a new title for Little Cob … Maybe Big Little Cobs? or … Medium Cobs? …. aw, you’ve reached the end of todays intelligence now, and my brain cell just popped! lol
      Thank you so much for coming Nancee, and for your truly lovely words. Bless you.
    1. Hello Anne
      Yes, really, really back , and so happy to be here with everyone. I missed you.
      Tickled pink that you enjoyed reading about the Copper Topped Lavender Mob Mushrooms. They were such an enjoyable make – but the needed patience, which isn’t something that I have in abundance when I’m ‘making’ – so it’s been good for me and made me learn to have more patience in all sorts of ways.
      There are actually three mushrooms on the log base, you must have missed one.
      Thank you so much for coming Anne, it’s truly lovely to see you.
      Sending love to you in your corner, from me in mine. ❤ ~ Cobs. xxx
    1. Hello again Rabbit.
      I’m hoping that you get this message – and *think* you will since it’s on my blog rather than on your Rabbit Patch.
      Over the past 2/3 weeks, since I’ve been back on Blogland, I’ve been making my way around the various blogs I follow, leaving comments and likes. However, I’ve found out from many (many!) bloggers that for some strange reason my comments are going straight to their spam folder, so no one is seeing that I’ve made a comment unless they happen to visit their spam folder and click to say that I’m not spam, and in doing so, save me from the spam dump after ‘X’ many days.
      I’ve made a handful of comments on The Rabbit Patch, and none of those comments are appearing on any of your posts – so I’m guessing that my comments must be going to your spam folder.
      I have ‘spoken’ with the WordPress helpers, who led me to speak to Akismet about the problem, and they’re currently trying to help.
      Would you please check your spam folder, just in case my comments are still in there?
      I’ve only just had the idea of ‘speaking’ to you about this, here on my site, because my site knows I’m not a spammer – so it will print this. I just hope you get the notification to tell you that this message is waiting for you, so that you know about this problem.
      Will you please let me know if my comments are in your spam folder, so that if Akisment need any more information about the latest ‘spam’ I’ve found out about, I can tell them.
      Sending you much love and a bunch of squidges ~ Cobs. xxx ❤
I love you friend-your rabbit
        1. Ohhh thank heavens!
          I’m SO happy that I thought of putting a message on my blog, as trying to post a message in a comment on your blog wouldn’t have solved the problem.
          I’ll pop along in a few minutes and put a few words comment on your latest post, so that we can test to see if the problem has been solved.
          I think that Chicken Grandma has the same problem with my comments too, as Ive made comments on her blog posts and they haven’t shown up. So I might have to dig into history and find a comment that she’s made at some point on my blog here, so that I can have a ‘go’ at contacting her to let her know the problem.
          I’m thrilled to bits that you got my message, and that you found the comments I’d made.
          Thank you so much for checking the spam folder. I was really stressing about it. I didn’t want you to think I wasn’t caring about you or your blogging posts, for I care VERY much.
          Sending hugs and love ~ Cobs. xxx
    1. Hello Kim!
      It’s fabulous to see you again.
      Aw, thrilled you like the Copper Topped Lavender Mob mushrooms. They were truly a delight to make. I didn’t think I would be able to achieve this, as it seemed so complicated inside my head, but slow and steady got the job done, along with lots of planning and drawing and pattern making! eeek!
      Thank you so much for coming Kim, and sharing a coffee moment with me.
    1. Hello Bev.
      Wordpress didn’t tell you that I’d made a post?
      Aw flippin’ heck! They’re really falling down on the job, aren’t they!
      I’ve noticed in my reader (where you can click to see what posts people I follow) that I’m getting VERY few posts from blogs, and mostly they’re repeating blogs I’ve already ‘liked’ from days and days ago.
      WordPress need to step back a few weeks, go back to when things were working, and not introduce new systems until they’ve fully and thoroughly tested them! This whole new thing is a diabolical mess.
      I’ve just put a new post on my blog about it. I’m so, so fed up right now. It’s taken me almost four hours to make a post, because of this new system they’ve introduced. It’s absolutely dreadful.
      I’m so glad that you found these mushrooms. I had a feeling you’d like them.
      Sending you much love and hugs, through the ether. ❤ ~ Cobs. xxx
      1. Oh no…I haven’t even tried the ‘new’ thing and haven’t read anything good about it. Since I have never mastered the old way I am really out in left field. I guess eventually I’ll have to jump in and swim with every one else.
          See the comment on this post, from Kim Styles Cards – she's given me idiot proof instructions, which I'm going to print out an keep by my 'puter, so that I have the help I need to (hopefully) get around the most #stupidest changes that #Wordpress have done to date.
          Who calls a paragraph a 'block' for goodness sake? If that's what 'block' actually means?!!
          pffft!
          Have a wonderful Friday Bev. Sending much love, and hoping to see some of your 'makes' soon, on your blog. ~ Cobs. xxx
  8. You are so creative and talented. I can’t blame your daughter for claiming this as her own. Here I am trying to figure out how to hand sew a patch on a pair of blue jeans because I like them too much to throw them out.
    1. Aww, thank you so much Ruth. Bless you.
      I know exactly how you feel about throwing out clothes which are wearing out, but are SO loved that you just can’t simply part company with them.
      I had a pair of striped jeans (yes really – striped!) and they fitted me so perfectly, and never had to be pulled up again if I bent down! They stayed in place.
      Well … I wore those babies until they fell apart – and even then, I couldn’t part with them. I made things from the remaining fabric, just so I could ‘keep’ them. lol
      I’m sending sewing vibes through the ether in the hope of them supporting you throughout your sewing session.
      I’m quite sure they’ll look GORGEOUS once you’ve done it.
      Wishing you a blessed Tuesday, Ruth. ~ Cobs.xxx
