The Fairy Wedding Dress ~ hiding inside a little Altoids tin!

You are invited to a very special Royal Wedding….

Invitation

No, don’t get excited. It’s not a delayed in the post invite to THAT wedding, because THAT wedding happened a week ago.   This is a different wedding altogether!

❤  ~  ❤  ~  ❤

I’ve been trying to share this Fairy Wedding Tin for the last week,  and … well life got in the way and the rest is history.  But here I am now, doing the sharing!  Whoo hoo!

Chatting with another blogger, (Gillyflower)  in comments on my  last Altoids (size) Tin Transformation (<– clickable link)   a couple of weeks ago,  I told her that I had plans for a Fairy Themed Tin …. and began it straight away.  So this is me, sending you an invitation to come and share the secret of the tiny, all handmade (by me), ‘Fairy Wedding Dress hidden inside a Tin’!

Let’s begin at the beginning, shall we?

Fairy Wedding Altoid Tin 2 front of tin
The Front of the Altoids size Tin is the first page of a three page ‘book’  which is an introduction to what’s inside the tin!

The front of the tin is the beginning of the story.  There are another two pages to the ‘book’, which are held closed by a small hidden magnet.

Fairy Wedding Altoid Tin 3 pages 2 and 3
It says:   The Fairy Prince asked the Fairy girl to marry him, and she said ‘Yes’!  So with lots of excitement, a Fairy Wedding was planned.  With the finest silk spiders put to work, spinning the finest webs to make the finest Fairy Wedding dress.  On the opposite page is a tiny sketch of a wedding dress.

Then …  you open the tin to see the Wedding Dress of the Year (well, almost), which was all hand-made by Cobwebs.  er …. using Cobwebs …  ah,  no … er,  umm  ….  aw… just open the tin!

Fairy Wedding Altoid Tin 5

Fairy Wedding Altoid Tin 4
I wanted to do a fancy arty type of photo.  Black and white, but the dress and tree in colour.  Not sure it’s worth the effort, but it was an enjoyable few minutes of play-time.  😀

All the papers you see lining the inside of the little Tin are Graphic 45 ~ Fairy Dust.

The bodice of the Wedding Gown was made from lightweight, air dry clay.

Fairy Wedding Altoid Tin 6
That’s an English Penny you see at the base of the tin, in the centre.  An English Penny is (roughly) the same size as an American penny.

The tin measures 9cm tall,  and 6.cm wide, which is approx or just over  3.5″  in inches tall and 2.36 inches wide,  and it’s just over three quarters of an inch deep.

The Fairy Ballet Shoes you can see hanging from the knob, next to the mirror, are also made by me, and are roughly about a third of the size of a penny.

The dress isn’t dangling on the floor of the tin, as it looks in that last photo.  I can actually put my finger between the ‘grass and flowers’ and the bottom of the wedding dress … which you can see in the next photo .  .  .

Fairy Wedding Altoid Tin 7

… can you see the grass and flowers beneath the dress, in the above (bit fuzzy) photograph?

The dress is festooned with soft pink and red flowers, with bits of greenery here and there.  It has a sparkly ribbon around the waist, and a petticoat made from white cheesecloth fabric.   The skirt of the dress is topped off with two layers of pure white, fine, Tulle. The shoulder straps on the bodice are satin.

The tree which the dress is hanging from was made from a Pine twiggy bit which I found in my garden, which has been drying out for weeks in my craft room.  I didn’t have any plans for it at the time I picked it up (and thanked nature for it), but I knew I’d use it in some way, and ….  this Fairyland Wedding altered Tin is the perfect place!

Fairy Wedding AltoidTin 1

I really enjoyed making this lovely altered Tin, and would love to make one like it again at some point.  But making a different sort of dress next time.  I have a million thoughts about what sort of dress and how it might look.  But … this tin was quite an intensive make.  All stops, starts and stops again, as I waited for bits of things to set / dry etc, – and I will freely admit that patience isn’t one of my strongest virtues.

Anyhooo  … that’s me done and dusted for this lovely Monday. I’m so glad that I finally got to sorting the photos out, and getting to share this Altered Tin with you.

I’ve spent the weekend just gone, trying to catch up with other peoples blog posts that I’ve missed.  Now I think I’m up to date …. but just in case my ‘Reader’ is telling me porky pies, and I’ve missed a blog post of yours, please do let me know in a comment so that I can come and catch up!

Thank you so much for coming, and for having a coffee moment with me.  I love seeing you here.  I’m sorry I’m sometimes missing in action – I have some health issues which are being a proper pain in the ‘you know where’. (not literally, you understand.  I have no problems with my ‘you know where‘).  But …  let’s not bother about the health issues, for they are like dragons.  They’re only scary if you think about them too much!  So we won’t.  😀

As always. . .  I love your company and love to chat with you, so please feel welcome to comment.  Let me know what you think.  Let me know what’s going on in your life.  And … if you’re in the United Kingdom, then today is a Bank Holiday – so let me know what you’re planning to do with this day off work (if you have the day off work – ’cause some folks aren’t able to.).

Have a magnificent Monday, whatever you’re doing, and a truly blessed, wonderful week.  Sending much love to you ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. that is the loveliest little surprise in a tin I have ever seen. Really truly beautiful. You really have the patience for those teeny tiny things, but I do want to try a tin myself, just not sure what would be inside. I like Frida, so maybe something to do with the “Day of the Dead”. 🙂
Gotta run Cobs, talk to you again soon. I am so late tonight getting my bath and into my jammies and knit. 🙂
Things are good but Stan is needing attention with his diabetes so we are going to the vet in the a.m. at least I hope they get me in in the morning. I have to learn to do blood glucose testing at home with him. It’s expensive when you don’t have a bank vault full of the green stuff, well coloured stuff over here. 🙂
    hugs from me to you

    1. Hello Soozy.
Lovely to see you. Aw, I’m sorry to hear that Stan is not in a good place with his diabetes. If they say that you’re able to do his blood testing with a regular human blood testing machine, then it should be a fairly simple thing. But you’re right, costly indeed for his treatment. But then, I do feel that some vets charge well over the odds for their consulting fees and medications. It’s something that I feel should be regulated in some way.

I hope that you can get him sorted out Soozy, and without too much damage to the bank balance.

Thank you so much for coming and I’m tickled pink that you like the Fairy Wedding Dress in the little tin. I hope that at some point you get enough time to make one of these tins for yourself. I think you’d have a great time making one.

Thank you for visiting, and for your lovely comment. It’s great to see you.
Sending much love to you, and to Stan. ~ Cobs. xxx

  2. Good morning dear Cobs!

Well, I think Megan Markle that was missed a trick – she should have asked you to make her dress! What a divine concoction – dainty and detailed fit for a princess of any description! A wonderful creation!

    1. Morning Samantha! 😀 Happy Monday!

Awww, I’m tickled pink, all the way down to my toes, that you like the little Fairy Wedding Dress. Not sure Meghan would book me as her stylist mind – but I loved her dress (it seems to be a dress which has divided people and I’m in the ‘love it camp’).

It was so elegant and stylish. As for the boat-neck (or whatever it is they’re calling it) – well I recall seeing her in a grey and black plaid top a while ago, which had that exact same neckline, so it’s obviously something she really likes and feels comfortable in.

Your healing thoughts via a dragonfly courier … what an enchantment you have delivered with your words. I shall have the incredible, beautiful vision in my mind for days.
Love it Sam, and you too.

Thank you so much for coming and sharing a coffee moment with me.

Bless you for coming and for the lovely comment. I too hope that the health improves … and quickly! (see… patience really isn’t one of my strong points! lol)

Wishing you a truly beautiful time at the beach. I shall be thinking of you, and the ocean, as it washes some of the cares away and reduces the stresses of ‘life’.

    1. Hello lovely Beverly 😀
The Tea Party was so lovely. We put up Triangular bunting of Union Jacks – some outside the cottage and some in. Finger sandwiches (just like the Queen has), little individual quiches (so easy to make that it makes me embarrassed when people tell me how lovely they are! lol). chicken, mini pork pies, etc etc … then fresh fruit, cakes and a big Gateaux – to be the Wedding/Anniversary cake.

Little Cobs would have made you melt …. he kept coming up to me, taking my face in both his hands and saying: “Happy Anniversary Grammy” then he throws his arms around me and loves me. Bless his little heart. He’s so loving and caring.
I shall give both boys a hug from you. 🙂

Tickled pink that you like the tin. You could make altered art in tins Bev. There are so many things you can do in a tin to make it into something that others would love to display. Have a go. Go to Pinterest and see what other folks are doing in Altoids tins. It will fill your boots with idea!

Thank you for coming, lovely friend, and for the fabulous comment.

    1. Hello GillyF! Aw I’m so glad to see you, and tickled pink that you like the Fairy Wedding Dress tin.
I hoped that you’d see this one, since we’d been talking about it.

As for what’s next … well I’ve just started something which will take a few days to make it to the blog, but I think it will make you smile.
It was something I saw on pinterest and kind of bookmarked in my brain as something I’d like to make, but in my own ‘version’. The memory of it came back to me a few days ago, and just the memory alone made me smile, so I decided that I’d venture down that road while I was ‘in the zone’. LOL.

  7. Well, I’m in TWO ‘love it’ camps – Meghan’s dress and yours. It is simply amazing! I love the bodice particularly, but it is all so magical. Cobs, you make me want to shrink so that I can have a go at trying it on.

I hope your bank holiday was a healthy, pain-free one and I’m glad you managed to get this post out first, so that your blogger friends could cheer you up with their lovely comments.

I spent the bank hol riding up and down the neighbourhood on my electric scooter (new toy, ha ha!) and Sarah (who I really bought it for, but she insisted she didn’t want a lekky scooter at the time – something to do with almost being 13) rode it when I got tired. She glided across the pavement like a pro, but whenever she spotted someone of her own age-group wandering down the road, she promptly jumped off it and pretended she was wheeling it home for her imaginary younger sibling.

We then spent an exciting hour watching Anwar put up our new basketball hoop at the side of the house, but alas, it wouldn’t fix securely as the rawl plugs kept spinning in the holes, so we’re off to Screwfix tomorrow to buy some posher ones. (B&Q would have them, but that place is a nightmare – you can never find someone in orange when you need them and when you do, they send you down the wrong aisle).

Thanks again for finishing off my day with a smile! I’ll never look at a tin of mints the same again xxx

    1. Hello Sharon
Lovely to see you, and in such fine and hearty health.

I am picturing you on your scooter, whizzing along the pavement, with Sarah looking on and hoping that no one from school happened to walk into the road, or drive past. Bless her. lol

Don’t you hate it when you eagerly await that magical moment of a new toy being fixed together, or, in your case, fixed to the wall, only to find that things don’t go according to plan. I hope that your husband has very much better luck with the new plugs from Screwfix.

I second your views about B&Q. For me, I find it waaay too big and the entrance and exit doors are placed SO far apart, that wherever you park your car you can guarantee it’s in the wrong place. I no longer ‘do’ B&Q. It’s a place suited more for power walkers, sprinters and those with long distance awards. :/

Glad you like the Fairy Wedding Dress in a Little Tin.
Thank you for coming. Hope you get your basket ball hoop up today, or very soon. 🙂 ~ Cobs. xxx

Ooooo.. do you know I hadn’t thought about that! The Grooms ‘tux’. What a lovely idea.!! I might just venture down that lane … but not yet. I already have something ‘on the go’ which I’m kind of excited about. So the Groom might have to wait a little while – but that’s good, because it gives me time to think.

I’m just thrilled to bits that you like little things Nancee. Little is a favourite of mine. I so enjoy making them (whatever ‘they’ may be).

  10. Your invite to a fairy wedding is actually better than being a guest of honour at ‘That Wedding’ after all let’s get real this is a FAIRY WEDDING DRESS !!!!! nothing in our wildest imagination could be better than this except perhaps meeting the fairy it’s intended for but heyho I’m aware of the new data protection laws so you just can’t go about brandishing the bride to be’s name all over blogland without her express permission ….there is no way she will give you permission is there ???
As for the scary dragon health issues we are all here to calm the beast and turn him into a pussy cat just give us the word
PS soooooo pleased you have no worries with your ‘your know where’

    1. Ooooo, (giggling softly to self here) … aww ‘P’ … if there is anyone alive who doesn’t know why I just love you to pieces, that comment should be more than enough evidence to prove exactly why! One crackpot meets another crackpot and … M.A.G.I.C. happens!

The Fairy Dress …. well, here’s the thing . . . even I haven’t been honoured with a view of the Forest Fairy Bride to be. 🙂

A note was left on my desk, asking for a Wedding Dress to be made, and telling me what was required, and the measurements. The notes instructions said:
      White
      Sparkly
      Adorned
      Ball Gown (in style)
      Low Back (to accommodate wings)
Soft underskirt (for the comfort of little fairy legs)
And a little request at the bottom said:
      Shoes too please.

The writer added the measurements and finished with: Thank you Cobs. and it was signed with a hand drawn picture of a Fairy Hat. – which I’m given to understand is how some Fairies sign off, rather than use their name, when ‘conversing’ with humans, so that they remain esoteric and enigmatic.

The dress was obviously tried on, for I was left a message of: “Perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, and I distinctly heard a tiny, tinkling giggle when I opened the door to go into the craftroom – which I’d like to think may have just been some left over essence of Fairy, left specifically to say ‘thanks’, and not the seal around the door squeaking. 🙂

Like you, I’m rather pleased to have no worries with the ‘you know where’. LOL
As for the Dragons … they’ll never disappear (at least, not while I’m in this realm) but we all have our own dragons of one sort or another. So I’m not anything special. (at least not in that way. However .. . .
Daughter No.2 tells me I’m special in other ways – but the laugh that accompanies these words tells me that I shouldn’t be flattered by her words.)
      :/

Sending BIG L ❤ VE and squidges …. ~ Cobs. xxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxXxxxxxX

      1. Awww what a wonderful comment,
Duh OBVIOUSLY it was a tiny remnant of fairy laughter you heard ~ as if a door seal could even make that noise LOL
Apparently …. now I have this on very good authority …. fairies don’t write their ethereal name due to their vocabulary sounding like a 100 tiny silver bells, so drawing a fairy hat is the ACTUAL way a fairy would converse to a mere mortal.
Beloved also calls me ‘special’ and pronounces it with a nasal lisp which he assures me is a term of endearment but between you and me I have my doubts as he also calls me ‘fish face’ ~ so you can see why I have a heightened sense of scepticism 🙂
You are so correct that each & everyone of us have our own dragons, myself I’m followed around by a mahoosive T-Rex !! don’t let your dragon step out of line, keep him where you can see him and feed him grapes ~ not sure why grapes keep a dragon calm but who am I to ask such questions ??

        1. GRAPES!!! Aww.. see I made a mistake with my dragon … I fed it nuts. It made him …. N.U.T.S! Never again! Ohhh,, absolutely NEVER again! Who knew that Chilli infused nuts could turn a dragon into … well…. A D.R.A.G.O.N.! Flipping ‘eck!

Fairy vocabulary (do you know … I’ve just tried to say that word: vocabulary – and couldn’t get it to come out of my mouth in the way it should. ‘Vocabbalally’ is near to sounding what it comes out as. [sigh] My brain knows how to say it, but it just won’t come out of my mouth this morning! tsk tsk :/

The ‘vocabbalally of Fairies sounding like 100 tinkling bells …. wooooooowwww! I can’t even imagine it. I shall definitely be adding this to the list of things I need to ask Fairies to show me. 😀

The ‘Special’ … yers, I can see Beloved saying that to you in that ‘special’ way. Daughter No.2 says it while gently dragging her hand down her face, which drags her mouth down to the one side and made her look gormless.

I don’t know why we bother with these relatives – they’re there just to make us feel rotten about ourselves, and yet we have to make them feel like Kings and Queens of the Whole Worldy World! tsk (I swear I didn’t sign up for this treatment!)

How dare Beloved call you Fish Fash! I shall be getting my broom out and flying in for a visit to Mr.Beloved …. one night. While he’s sleeping. During a dream …. he will ‘see’ me and hear me turning what is quiet a nice dream into something far un-nicer. I’ll replace his face with a Fishy Face. That’ll teach him to call my playmate names!
          tsk tsk…. these boys!

Heaps of squidges, love and hugs and …. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX BIG kisses!!

  12. Oh it’s so beautiful, it’s a perfect dress fit for the prettiest fairy in the land. If I ever get married can I hire you as my dress designer?
I hope your health issues will realise they’re not welcome, and shove off looking suitably embarrassed. Don’t they know you have too much loveliness to make and share!

    1. Hello Quiet.
Thank you for your kind message. I’m so happy to hear that you like the little Wedding Dress hiding in an Altoids Tin. As for me being your wedding dress designer … I think me making a larger sized dress would be me being way out of my depth! I think Kleinfelds would be my recommendation 🙂

Thank you for coming and for taking the time to comment. 😀

  13. How creative! I kept collecting up all these tins — I get them from time to time in boxes of tea bags. Have no idea what to do with them. One of these days I’ll probably either start playing around with them, if I can find them. Things put away for later at my house tend to never be seen again. 🙂

    1. Ditto, Genie. I’m forever saying to Mr.C … “Do you remember those XYZ that I said I’d put away until I needed it? Do you remember where I put it, because I don’t!?”

So we have something in common… I refuse to think it’s ‘age’ …. so I’m just going to say that my rememberer is broken. lol.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend ~ Cobs. xxx

Aww, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I’m thrilled to pieces that you like the little altered tin, and the Fairy Dress hiding inside.
