Paint, brushes and … coo what a mess!

I’ve been very lackadaisical about posting a blog post or two over the last few days, or reading and commenting on yours and/or other folks blog posts.  Sorry about that.  I’m here to explain that there is a very good reason for this   …  so – read on dear reader, read on . . .

Liddle Widdle Cottage
Not exactly a photograph of little wittle Cobweb Cottage, but a sort of likeness.  😀

We moved into our incy wincy, teeny tiny,  little wittle cottage over 6 years ago now, and from the moment I saw the already converted garage – no garage door anymore, a lovely wooden floor and spotlights in the ceiling.  No draughts, large double glazed window with a double glazed door, and all this sited in the back garden, across the decking – well, I knew that whatever the cottage looked like, THIS craft room was going to be mine.

However …  I’ve longed, from that moment, for the room to be painted white inside.  It was and always has been since we moved in, been a delicate shade of lavender.  Not a bad colour by any means, but just not the right colour for me.  I longed for an antique sort of white which was soft on the eye and which I found relaxing and inspiring.

I dropped hints every now and again.  I even added this request to my Christmas List to Father Christmas, but it was missed off the presents left by F.Christmas, and hints never hit the spot.

BUT . . .  about 3 months ago Mr. Cobs suddenly said that he was going to put me some better shelving in my craft room!  (Be still my beating heart).  I gasped in  shock  loving surprise and gazed all starry-eyed at my craft room walls, imagining the new shelves.

Now Mr. Cobs isn’t someone who rushes at jobs.  I have to put in a request several weeks before I’m in need of something, so I knew that I’d likely have to wait for a short while for the said shelves to appear – but I began to kind of sort out my crafty things.  Moving stuff about, making piles of this, that and the other, all of them waiting, waiting, waiting – bit like being 42 weeks pregnant when you hoped to go into labour at week 39.

Suddenly, himself BURST into action earlier this week (during a bout of it not raining for a change!)  and after measuring (several times) and informing me of what he thought was the right shelving system for me …. and me agreeing or suggesting perhaps a tweak here and there – I decided that I would chance my arm and see if perhaps, before he put up the said new shelving, would he, perhaps, maybe, be open to taking up a paint brush and splashing some paint around in order to turn lavender walls into white ones.  And . . .  . . .  . . .  HE’S DOING IT!!!  He’s actually painting the Craft Room!  Oh joy of joys thy name is Cobs Snr!

Painting
Not entirely a photograph of Mr.Cobs, but a sort of likeness.  lol

Ohhh dear reader  😀  I cannot explain how amazing the room feels when I go into it.  It’s bright, uplifting but restful and the positive vibes are incredible.  AND …. …  the new shelving system looks wonderful.  There’s still things to do, and still all the putting back of all the crafty stash etc to be taken care of, but …  it’s all this moving, changing, painting, putting up shelving, altering, (and still waiting for an extra bit of shelving and then possible moving of a couple of things around) – which has kept me away from posting.  I haven’t been able to properly get into the craft room, and the dining room table is filled to capacity with all the crafty stuff which has had to be moved from the craft room, in order for painting to take place – so no crafty thing has been produced to share with you here

So … my apologies that I’ve missed some of your posts over the last week or so.  I will attempt to catch up at some point.  But a combination of Mr. C., paint, brushes, and creations of a totally different sort than normal …  and also because I’ve been far too excited about this [almost]  Alice in Wonderland happening, has kept me from being able to do anything other than be child-like excited about my craft room being decorated.

I’m kind of here …  I’m just not quite all there (but you knew that already). lol

Oh …  and in the middle of all this Little Cobs had a Birthday, and I hosted a Birthday Party here at Cobweb Towers – and had to hide all the craft stash which has been sitting on the dining room table!  It was all hidden really well.  In fact so well that I’m not sure we’ve found it all again!  LOL.

Anyhoo …  normal service will be resumed once everything is back to normal.  Until then …  please take very good care of yourself.

Sending love and squidges ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Oh how happy you must be to have your craft room all snazzed up, I wondered about that word, snazzed but I like it, even tho’ it’s not a word according to my spell check. Snazzy is but not snazzed up, maybe I should say jazzed up?
Anyway I am excited for you Cobs. Wish I had a room too, but not in this place. No worries.
    Thanks for posting your excitement.

    1. Snazzed up … oooo, I like it Soozy!

But … wonder no more. ‘Snazzed’ actually IS in the dictionary!
      And I quote:-

“Verb. (third-person singular simple present snazzes up, present participle snazzing up, simple past and past participle snazzed up) (chiefly US, idiomatic) To improve appearance or appeal by increasing stylishness or functionality, or by adding other attractive features.”

So – you are more well informed and edumacated than you thought you were! All that knowledge is stored in the filing system which is inside your brain, and your brain is accessing it for you without you even realising. How clever are you!! 😀

Thank you for coming, and for your lovely comment Soozy – you’ve made me smile. I have a ‘snazzed up’ crafting room. Sounds perfect! 😀

  2. Congratulations on your craft room upgrades! I would love to see pictures once it’s finished to provide some inspiration. My hubby and I moved into our new house a couple of weeks ago and all my craft stuff is in boxes, waiting for me to finish unpacking the “important” stuff like the living spaces. My walls are white and I’ve been thinking of painting them and adding shelves; however I want to just settle in before deciding to change everything up 🙂

    1. Firstly, congratulations on your new home Paula! Moving is kind of exciting in a strange sort of way.

But…. Moving home is (at the same time) a kind of trauma. Leaving one place you’ve loved, can be so very sad, and moving to a whole new area is a worry. Will you enjoy the new area? Will you like all the new neighbours. Oh, lots of little worries.

Unpacking and setting up of your new craft room: – don’t expect to get it right straight away. It will take a little time to work out where you need things to be.
I know that personally, over the last six years of living here, I’ve continually ‘jiggled’ things around, trying to make things work in the way I need them to work. So don’t beat yourself up if you put things in places that you yourself ‘jiggle’ with three months later.

I think you’re spot on with that feeling of wanting to settle in before splashing the paint around and adding shelves.
It’ll take you a while to work out where best to put things.

Very good luck in your new home, and new craft room. May you be happy living there and may contentment settle in your home and heart very soon.

  3. Oh I love the feeling of a new craft room. Been there, done that. And spent many an hour going through all the accumulated stuffs of crafting. The things we must collect ‘cos it could be used for something, sometime. Then the deciding of what to keep and what to not keep, who to give it to ‘cos it simply cannot, must not, go in the bin! And then the discoveries of why, oh why did I get rid of THAT! I could use it now 😦 But there is only a finite amount of room on shelves and in cupboards…. Have fun.

    1. OOOHH SOUL GIFTS!! You’ve hit the nail firmly on the head!!! I swear you must be my twin sister, for you have just described the dilemma that I find myself in.

I have literally, in the past few days, said to Mr.Cobs: “I’m going to be absolutely ruthless and part company with anything I don’t need or use. I cannot keep on saving things ‘just in case’. So . . . things will either go to the charity shop, or I’ll sell things on Ebay!”
I know I have waaaay to many stamps (particularly unmounted clear stamps) and that’s one thing which HAS to change. I shall be making up assortments of stamps, and Ebaying those – while the urge is great in me! (I dare not let the urge fade or I might change my mind and give in to keeping them. eeek. lol)

And then … Yes … what if I need the very thing I’ve parted company with?! Oh…now that’s a huge ‘thing’ to me. Massive. Size of a planet concern.

LOL … like I said … twin sisters. You can read my mind and know my heart. lol.

Thanks for coming Soul G., and for the fabulous comment.

Made me feel good to know that it would be appreciated and used for kids to have fun with. Enjoy your weekend – you need some down time to brace yourself for the coming week 🙂

  4. Oh I remember when we re-did my craft room! Oh it was a mess in the rest of the house! I felt so lost not being able to go into my craft room and just create! We had things stacked in the dining room and living room. I was SOOOO glad when the room was finally finished and I could move back in! I feel your “pain” and “joy” at having a nice clean space! And with lots of shelving space too! 🙂

    1. GASP! YOU TOO?!!!
The cottage is looking so untidy right now and I fear someone coming to visit unexpectedly, or a neighbour popping round. I never have a mucky looking house. It always looks pretty much tidy. But right now, it looks like an unholy mess, and like I’ve burgled MAJOR TIME, Hobbycraft or some other large crafty store. lol

We (the Royal ‘we’ there – lol) were hoping that it would all be finished and over with by the end of today – but I don’t think that’s going to happen. However . . . my heart lives in the land of dreams and hopes. 😀

Aww, thanks for coming Nancee, and for the really lovely comment.

  5. Oh, excitement plus Cobs, what a wonderful thing to finally have your craftroom. I hope you are having some heating over there too. Perhaps a fan for the coming summer months. I shall stop now, my ideas a pouring forth in a torrent. so happy for you. XX

I’ve had my craftroom for just over 5 years -but it’s not had enough organised shelving and it hasn’t been painted in my much wanted antique white, but instead in the previous property owners choice of lavender.

Sadly the lavender – although a nice enough colour – is actually a very dull, draining colour, and it makes the room feel dark and a little dismal. So for Mr.C to be splashing the paint around and turning it into something which feels magical, is totally blowing my mind. Bless his heart.

Thank you for coming, my fabulous friend, and for the lovely comment.

      1. You are most welcome Cobs. My own craftroom has had a little revamp recently too. As I haven’t been terribly active with crafting recently I haven’t given it a real workout yet, but the layout is much nicer. I may post some pictures in a blog post soon. Enjoy your fabulous room.

    1. Aww, thank you dear friend. Mr.C is indeed coming through, and he’s doing a truly grand job. I’m so excited about it Beverly. I keep popping over and opening the door to take a peep. The whole room is looking so bright and such a happier place.

The lavender walls made it darker (and dirty looking too) and I didn’t realise until Himself painted the walls white, exactly how dark the lavender colour made the room.

      I’m tickled pink about it.

You + Shopping = moments of great big sighs. I know you hate it. I do too. It’s such a thankless task and one that has to be done again, and again and again. Never ending. Week after week.
I’m sending happy vibes to you, with a small bucket of giggles – just to give you happy bubbles inside.

Also sending much love – always. ~ Cobs. xxx

  6. What a wonderful, wonderful reason for neglecting your blog. Of course you had to sort and stash your crafty stuff and of course you had to appreciate, praise and encourage dear Mr. Cobs. And of course you had to revel in the splendor of a craft room that truly feels like yours, and of course you had to host the birthday party. None of us would complain or feel left out when such wonderful things were happening for you. Enjoy! And God bless Mr. Cobs.

  7. What a lovely post, Mr C looks very chirpy in his cartoon picture 😂 You are one lucky lady, I bet your crafting productivity will treble once you’ve got your room perfect! X x

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Mr.C and his cartoon picture … not entirely certain that it’s a true likeness, as the man in the picture seems very young and has none of the grey whiskers the real deal seems to be sprouting on his ‘chinny chin chin’. lol.

Not sure the crafting productivity will treble – but the room will abso-bloomin’-lutely be a waaaay nicer place to be in. (The lavender drained the life out of the room and everything in it, including me! eeek!)

But yes, feeling like one lucky old gal here. The room is really beginning to come together. I just have to get everything back in there and sorted out.

Can you imagine the scene if I tried …. tons and tons of paper, flying from every corner, and swirling around the room. Paints, ink pads, brushes, sponges, inky sprays, Tonic Drops, Ranger Stickles. And .. an array of crafty adornments – all flying around the room making a scene reminiscent of a scene in Matilda.
Ohhhh, were I sure of being as organised in magic as Matilda is (was), I would most certainly have a go at it. 😀 LOL .. xxx

See – this is one of my major fails. I forget to take photos. You wouldn’t believe some of the things I’ve made in the past and totally been so cock-a-hoop with the final result – and can’t wait a moment longer to send/deliver the item to it’s intended recipient, that I completely forget to photograph said thing.
Y’ talkin to a total nincompoop here, Chicken!

  11. Good evening, dear Cobs!

Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend and that the craft room is on its way to being completed. I love the feeling of having everything beautifully organised and tidied away – a place for everything and everything in its place – and I even manage to keep it like that for a while…till I decide I REALLYNEED to get all my handmade papers out…then I REALLYNEED the stick on gems that I was using to “snazz up” (great word 😸) a butterfly mobile…and I discover I put my favourite piece of clear quartz away and I REALLYNEED to drag everything out again…

When I have moments like this my partner just leaves me to it and pushes cups of tea around the door at regular intervals…he’s seen a cat canter out of the spare room wearing glitter whiskers and knows to stay clear!

White is a wonderful choice too. Although I did walk past someone’s house the other day and notice their bedroom (curtains were open) had pink glittery wallpaper…

Lots of love to you 😸💕 xxx

    1. Ooo pink glittery wallpaper . . . what’s the betting it’s their Princess who resides in that room! 😀 Bless.

Awww Samantha .. I know only too well that feeling of putting everything in a new place and feeling wonderful about the tidy up job I’ve done … only to want something I put underneath a gazillion other things – and then … when I’ve got to the bottom of the gazillion other things, the thing I wanted wasn’t there at all!!!

There’s a tiny bit of wall which still has to be painted, but Himself needs to move a bit of furniture out of the way in order to finish the job of, and it was raining today so he couldn’t put anything outside while he did it – booooo! to the rain!.

If the weather report for our island is to be believed, it’s going to be a wonderful rest of the week and (apparently) hotter than California, so the paint part will be finished when the weather is kind.

I’ve already started to move things into their new living places, but as soon as I think *this* is the right place, I instantly change my mind and have to move things again. (sigh!) lol.

I’m hoping that things are all back to normal by the end of the week. LOVING the white walls though. Totally loving them.

    1. Awww hello Hannah! It’s GREAT to see you.

Yup … the new paint job is making the whole room so much brighter and it’s such a gentle white too. It’s called ‘Antique White’ – and Mr.C reckons the room has been painted by an ‘antique painter’ LOLOLOL. Bless. 😀

The new shelves are up in one place – and there will be a little added extra bit of shelving either tomorrow or Thursday – depending on how the ‘antique painter’ is holding up. 😉

As for photo’s …. if I can I will. I just have to make my mind remember to take them. Now THAT’s where the problem lies. I have a totally useless brain which rolls around a colander and lets all the information out. [sigh]. tsk tsk.

    1. Aww, hello Anna. 🙂
Painting finished. New Shelving and Storage all up and complete, and looking lovely…. however, the task of putting everything back is proving puzzling.

I was so used to having things in certain places, but those places don’t exist anymore, so I’m having to try and make things make ‘new sense’. I will put things in one place, then move on to something else, but then find that there is something else which should have been included with those other things, so everything has to move and wriggle around. Hence it’s taking me a bit of time to work it out. :/

On top of this is normal, regular life – and that has to take first place in the list of importance.

Summing up … I’m getting there. I’m apparently just on the ‘scenic, slow train’. lol.

Lovely to see you Anna. Thank you for the lovely message. ~ Cobs. xxx

    1. Hello Samantha 😀
All is groovy – the re-organisation of the Craft Room is just taking a little longer than I want it to take. The painting was finished, the fitting in of the new shelves and storage was completed, but what’s taking the time is getting all my crafty things back into the room and in the right places.

Everything had a place before – all be it a bit higgledy piggledy – but now, those places don’t exist anymore so I’m having to try and make sense of where everything actually is so that I don’t spend ages looking for a particular thing when I want to use it. [sigh]

Add to that … I had a week of medical appointments every day (different things, different places to get to) which ate into days and that slowed things down too.

But … I’m hoping that today (Thursday) will see the end of this task and that I’ll be back to making in there – as I’m longing to just sit and create.

I know that over the next few weeks or so, things will get moved around (again!) as I find that I’ve put something in the wrong place for me, and things will swap and change – but I won’t mind that too much. I just need to get it as right as possible now so that I remember where everything is.

Aww, thanks for coming Samantha and for your lovely message. It made me feel warm and wriggly. Knowing that someone cares, is such a wonderful feeling.
Love you heaps, my fabulous friend.
