The Friday Post ~ History Lesson for 9th March 2018

Welcome to Cobs Friday Class of Edumacation.  Please find your seat and make yourselves comfortable.  Put any gum in the bin, and no eating anything unless you’re prepared to share with the whole class!  I work on a fair system here in this classroom.

First, an apology. I’m sorry this post is a  little late   12 hours late today.  Through one thing and another I began it late, and then, just as I’d got the history part finished. . .  I realised that I’d covered yesterdays  history (8th March) instead of todays, (9th March)!!!

hmmm…  I can’t tell you the power that went into the following words:  “Well s*d it!  What a frickin’ idiot I am!”.   Mr.Cobs, – obviously a man who cares, – said how he felt about this huge blunder of mine by grinning widely and saying absolutely nothing.  I KNOW  it was killing him to say nothing,  so he has to be commended for keeping it zipped.

So, in light of me totally messing up, I decided today to KISS this weeks Friday Post.  KISS= Keep-It-Simple-Stupid!

Instead of giving you too much to read on any subject, I’m going to try to give you the information but in a more ‘punchy’ way.  This way it will be easier to read through, and if you find something you’d like to learn more about, then Mr. Google will be your best friend. 😀

Shall we jump in?  ….

The Great Depression was a worldwide economic downturn starting in most places in 1929 and ending at different times in the 1930s or early 1940s for different countries. It was the largest and most important economic depression in the 20th century, and is used in the 21st century as an example of how far the world’s economy can fall. The Great Depression originated in the United States; historians most often use as a starting date the stock market crash on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday.
The Great Depression was triggered by a sudden, total collapse in the stock market.

Cavalese is a ski-resort located in the Dolomites, some 40 km north-east of Trento.

The pilot of the military plane, Captain Richard J. Ashby, and his navigator, Captain Joseph Schweitzer, were put on trial in the United States and were found not guilty of involuntary manslaughter and negligent homicide. Later they were found guilty of obstruction of justice for having destroyed a videotape recorded from the plane and were dishonourably discharged from the Marines.

This event put pressure on the international relationship between the United States and Italy, where it is known as “Massacre of Cermis”, because the acquittal of the pilots is considered outrageous.

1982 – “Krononauts” hosted an event in Baltimore, Maryland asking time-travellers to meet and demonstrate future science methods of Time travel.

PLAYTIME BELL RINGS ..  ~  ..  TIME FOR FUN!

These are the jokes folks ….

Two mice meet and start chatting. “Look,” says one after a while, “I’ve got a new boyfriend!” and shows a picture on the mobile phone.

“OMG,” cries the other mouse, “that’s a bat!”

What?! The guy told me he was a pilot!”

Are you aware that searching for a new laptop online is basically forcing your current computer to dig its own grave!  😦

What if . . .  the spider I killed in my bedroom lived his whole life thinking I was his roommate and died wondering what brought on this psychotic break?

If you’re waiting to be served in a restaurant, shouldn’t you be called the waiter?

A wife goes to consult a psychiatrist about her husband: “My husband is acting so weird. He drinks his morning coffee and then he goes and eats the mug! He only leaves the handle!”

Psychiatrist: “Yes, that is weird. The handle is the best part.”

“You know how it is in life. One door closes – that means another door opens…”    “Yeah, very nice, but you either fix that or I’m expecting a serious discount on that car!”

Men in 1845:-  “I just killed a buffalo”.
Men  in  1952:-  “I just fixed the roof”.
Men  in  2018:-  “I just shaved my legs”.

I was making myself a Russian tea.  Unfortunately I can’t fish the teabag out of the vodka bottle.

What did the toilet roll complain about?
“People just keep ripping me off!”

Teacher:- “OK class, who will give me the chemical formula for water?”
Pupil: “H I J K L M N O.”
Teacher: “What on earth are you on about?”
Pupil: “Well you said yourself yesterday it was H to O!”

What a difference a good shower makes!
I was irritable, exhausted and I felt miserable.
Now I’m irritable, exhausted, I feel miserable, and I smell of grapefruit!

Q:-  What should you do when you see a spaceman?
A:-  You just park in it, man.

And now dear reader it’s time for coffee and contemplation . . .

Thought for the Day

I learned a while ago, (a TV programme) that apparently birds follow the road system when they are trying to find their way. (???  eh?  mmmn.)

Now, I’m not so sure that I believe it . . .  but,  scientists claim to have proof.  Unfortunately, it seems nowadays, a scientist with ‘proof’ carries more authority than a priest with a hand written note from God Himself.

It’s sadly a disappointing side effect of  ‘progress’.

So if we are to believe this is true, then we must face the fact(?) that it’s not just us humans who have grown ‘out of touch’ with life’s natural rhythms, but animals as well.  Very soon we will come to that place  where never again will we be able to talk about travelling ‘as the crow flies’.

However – I have always wondered why,  (in some circumstances), science is so important,  when it can’t even prove the existence of love.  (just sayin’).

Well that’s school over and done with, and it’s Friday.  Ahhhhh.  🙂

I like Fridays even the name sounds friendly when you say it.  I learnt when I was in school that Fridays meant that whatever happened during those next two days could only be brilliant and greater than the five days which preceded during which I had to attend school.  Don’t get me wrong, school was OK, but … it was school!

The snow has all gone from where I live – although there’s been enough rain to melt it, (and it’s POURING down as I type)  so if there is any snow left anywhere in Dorset, it must be because it was a snowman or a snow build of some sort.

Again … apologies for todays Edumacation being late.  There is a very good reason but I’ll not bother you with all the boring details – but building the history for the wrong day didn’t help!  [sigh – what a total dipstick!].  Thank you for coming and sharing a coffee moment with me.  It’s been brilliant to be in your company.

I wish you a blessed rest of your day,  where-ever you are in the world.   May your weekend be a breeze and joy to be living in.  May something make your heart smile, and may love touch your life.

Sending much love, ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Oy, cheeky face!
Just you remember, there is no irreplaceable man.
(although mind, I really don’t think I could stand all that ‘training’, all over again.)

thank you for picking up my one brain cell. Covered in fluff and sticky stuff, but I washed it in the sink and gave it a polish with Mr.Sheen. lol ~ Cobs the younger . x

  1. Who’d have thought false teeth and letterboxes would have had something in common? It’s true that you DO learn something every day!
No worries about being late, Cobs – it’s not very often that I’m on time so I completely understand (and I too get my days mixed up – I’ve been thinking it was Saturday all day today, so between us we’ve covered three days now!)
Great Friday post as usual, Cobs… and good to see Mr Cobs now as well! 😀

Ah…the 64 mustang. My best friend in college little brother had one. Red I think. Classic now .
Had a quick visit from DnL and all the little grands this afternoon. Going to bed early tonight. lol
    Love to the Cobs. xoxo

    1. Hello Beverly. Happy Saturday! 🙂
Yeah, I guessed that I could have got away with it being late – but you know me. Polite to the extreme.
(Someone was offensive to me in a comment on their blog a few weeks ago and although I replied, I was ultra polite and didn’t stick up for myself. I just don’t follow them anymore).

Ah, the Mustang. Any car, in any shape, colour or form, is totally lost on me. I’m just not a ‘car’ person. I use them as a tool to get from A to B – and in that way they’re mega important to me, but that’s as far as it goes. But I can totally understand how passionate some folks are about classic cars and special ones. We all have our passions.

Great visit from your Daughter in Law and your little Grandchildren. They obviously wore you out LOL. I’m of the opinion that that’s what Grandchildren were designed for. LOL.

Hope you slept well, my lovely friend.

      1. I don’t understand someone being nasty. Several of my crafting sites claim to get nasty thumbs down . Why? If you don’t like something just move on. Unless you are putting down my kids…then you better watch out.
Cars…..I don’t even have one. I drive my parents old car since they don’t. It gets me to the store and you know how excited I get at that. DH left me with an old truck which needs work and has been put into service at the tree and lawn service (#3 business when he isn’t out in the gulf.)Some things just don’t matter a tinkers d….
Beautiful day..so far…storms coming in later. Love to you

        1. I’m laughing hysterically at your .. “Some things just don’t matter a tinkers d…”

Ohh Beverly, you should be available on prescription. God Bless your beautiful, funny, heart.

The blogger … well I was polite, and I actually now think that she doesn’t know or realise what the word she called me meant. But, I just didn’t feel that it was worth taking a chance that she actually meant what she said, so it was easier to just stop following her blog, and push away the hurt that the word had dealt me.

Cars … I have one, and it’s a nice car – no dinks or dents or anything like that (although saying that is the kiss of d.e.a.t.h, so perhaps imagine that I whispered it. lol). And I acknowledge that its a great gadget to get me to where I want to be and home again. But I’m not one of those who has any pride about having a nice car or anything like that. It gets washed and waxed, but that’s just to keep it clean, just like the house. I’m not a fusser over them.

The day here began beautiful and I had all the doors open so that I could hear the birds all singing their joy. But then the heavens opened up BIG TIME and the rest of the day was a wet one.

Hope your storm wasn’t one which caused any damage.

          1. Will let you know about the storm It hasn’t gotten here yet. Tonight is the time. I don’t like night time storms because we can’t see what is going on. Course with all the trees it is hard ro see in the day too. lol

            1. LOL … it sounds like here. We’re surrounded by huge tall pines and I do love them (four of them which grow in our garden are protected so we have to love them because we are their guardians) and they’re brilliant in the Summer because they give beautiful dappled shade to the garden … but …. ohhhh myyy goodnessss! The MESS! Pine needles by the ton. Pine Cones – which the dog brings in and makes gifts of, but sometimes she’ll lay and chew them on the carpet – which makes a HUGE mess and if, when you’ve cleaned up the bits up, you find you’ve missed a bit – OUCH! That stuff can really hurt. Then on top of that are all the twigs, bits of tree and branches which strong winds bring down. Flipping heck! Who knew that these trees made THAT much mess!
But I wouldn’t be without them. I love them, and their squirrels which nest in them, and the birds which visit, way too much to ever wish for something to happen to them. Nope … I’ll live with the mess.

I hope that the storm just happens to be a bit of rain and wind and that nothing at all happens other than things in the garden get watered and the windows get a wash.

Sending you love Bev. See you on Sunday. ~ Cobs. xxx

  3. Phew! I thought I’d missed your post totally when I looked yesterday. Your little blip sounds like something I would manage to do quite easily! I liked the short, sharp facts.
Also the jokes, I needed the giggles after a very stressful morning involving mud, football and an accidental overspend, along with some dog mess because it was raining and he didn’t want to go in the garden. I need a darkened room and a whole book of jokes! Have a lovely weekend x

    1. Ohhhh heckaroonie!!!
That sounds like a whole months worth of stress!
Out of them all, the one which would have had me at my last nerve would have been the dog mess. I cannot cope with older dog pooh’s. (Hence the reason that Cobs The Elder walks the dog with the doggy bags in his pocket!). I’m fine with puppy pooh. I can’t understand why it suddenly changes at around doggy 6 months old.

Imagine me coming to take you away in my car, driving to the beach and us sitting watching the water, and eating sandwiches and cake in the car. This is what Little Cobs calls ‘A Picnic in the Car’. It relieves you of stress.

Then … we’ll go and have a cocktail or two. Non-alco for me, and anything you fancy for you. I’ll deliver you home again when your at that point where you’re not drunk, but you’re happy. 🙂

Mothers Day tomorrow … you get a day of sitting around while everyone else does the stuff. Have a great day! ~ Cobs. xxx ❤

  4. Oh my dear Cobs…with so much going on around us in this fast paced world I’m surprised I even know what day it is! LOL! I so enjoy your posts, no matter what the content is! You are always informative and such a joy to read. I know we all take pride in what we do and make every effort to be informative and have a little fun as we do so. It is too bad that some people take to social media and blogs to “bash” or be critical of someone else. I was always taught that if you couldn’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all. It’s too bad some people think they can hide behind the screen and say anything they want to without any regards to the human being they are being critical of. Social graces seem to have disappeared! I have had several craft friend have the same thing happen to them. Horrible! I have seen several of the craft sites where someone has been super critical of someone’s work going so far as to tell the person they are not an “artist”. They have no idea. Art is different for everyone. You don’t have to like everything, but you also don’t have to be so critical of someone else’s work. They didn’t ask for you to be their critic! If you don’t like my posts, then just MOVE ON! It’s too bad some web sites have a “thumbs down”. They should really remove them altogether. If you don’t like something, then don’t come back for a visit. If you do, then just visit the next time something is posted. You are such a dear who shares so much, including everyday simple things. They bring such joy to those of us who so enjoy visiting with you. Life’s too short to spend your time criticizing others, enjoy the world around you! Keep on smiling and keep on posting! 🙂

Ah, it was, I’m telling myself, just a young WordPress blogger who I believe didn’t know the meaning of the word they used in a reply to a comment I made on their blog. (nice comment, nothing horrid).
I’m choosing now, to believe that she’s perhaps just ‘young for her age’, and hasn’t given it a second thought.

I did question (really nicely) what she’d replied, but her second reply could have been read two ways – and I couldn’t decide if it was nice or not, so the best thing for me to do was simply no longer follow. That way there would be no further chance of hurt feelings.

Thank you for your lovely comment Nancee. Bless your truly beautiful heart.

May the rest of your day be blessed as can be, and may the coming week bring you love, joy and contentment.

Fab Friday post as always, seriously, you have to watch “Gone With The Wind”… Whyah Rheyett! Rheyett! What ehver shall Ah do?”..(my attempt at a Southern Belle accent) and also…the spider thing. I laughed till I cried..then I thought “But Cobs could have a serious point there…” then I laughed some more…and messaged my son the spider joke!

The spider thing … made me feel REALLY guilty – not for a recent killing, but for one many years ago.
I don’t kill things … I capture and let them go ….. faaaaar away from the house as possible.

Tickled pink that you had a laugh from the post.

As for an Ark … well I did think earlier on that here in Dorset we were going to be at one with the sea… but thankfully, at the moment, the rain has stopped – so giving the current pools a chance to seep away and water the worms.

Weather girl on TV right now is saying that we’re going to have more of the wet stuff. She said milder on Wednesday but turning very cold after that. So … summing up – freezing cold wet things.
Perhaps I need a scuba diving outfit. Oh Lord. Me, in a scuba diving outfit!!! Blimey… have you seen Free Willy?
*laughing hysterically here at mental image of self in a scuba divers kit!!!!

I can see you left the crayons alone, but notice that the candles have teeth marks in them. Nice touch. Very ‘decorator’ in style.

  6. I’m so sorry you ran into difficulties with your Friday post and so impressed that Mr. Cobs reads what you write. I enjoyed his comment. It made just the right amount of fun of you. And now I know kissing was once outlawed in Naples and when Barbie was born; I only wish there had been a death date for her shortly thereafter. I also have a new joke to tell: the one about seeing a spaceman. But as always, I enjoyed your personal thought and your wishes for us the most, because that’s when your happy, sweet spirit shines through.

    1. Hello beautiful Aunt Beulah, aw, it’s so lovely to see you here.

Running into difficulties with this post … ohhh, I could have spit blood and feathers! I called myself all the names under the sun – which basically all meant ‘silly old fool’. It’s my own fault. I looked at the date down in the corner of the puter screen, saw it, and looked for things that happened on that day. I normally add a day then look. tsk tsk.

I think I was a little over-tired when I began and had plenty to think about. Instead of putting everything to one side, I tried to cram everything into my one brain cell and …. failed miserably! LOL.

I’m tickled pink that you’ve got a new joke, and that you enjoy the thought at the end of the post. It’s kind of my way of making everything ‘human’ and bringing us back to today and giving everyone else something to ponder.
I’m so happy that you like it.

Thank you so much for coming Aunt Beulah, and for the lovely comment.
