New Fairy Dragon Eggs, & meet one of the makers!

A hundred years ago ….  Ok, I might be exaggerating just slightly there. Let’s begin again.

Last month (February) I shared some Fairy Dragon Eggs that Little Cobs (my grandson) and I had made together.  They were a smash hit with him and he loved them.  So much so that I thought that while he was so enchanted with them, perhaps we could make just one or maybe two more, and enclose them so that they were protected, and (more importantly) they wouldn’t get lost or damaged.  So I put my thinking cap on and came up with the perfect idea.

Little Cobs comes for a visit on Tuesdays.  We collect him from School and he comes to Cobweb Towers for a bit of fun and his tea.

So on the previous day,  (Monday),  I made two tiny eggs – one around 2.5cm tall (just under an inch) and another approximately 1.25cm (which is little bit under half an inch), which I made from Hearty air dry clay, as I wanted them to be light in weight, and quick to dry.

Hearty Modelling Clay
Hearty Clay comes in a variety of colours, and they even have a super lightweight clay which would be fabulous for card adornments which have to go through the post.

The following day we went to collect him from school and, once he was safely ensconced in the car, I told him that I had got two tiny Fairy Dragons eggs in the house, and wondered if he would like to make them look amazing, since he was now considered an expert at Fairy Dragon Eggs.  He was all over the idea and didn’t stop talking about it all the way home.

He bounced into the house, hung his coat up, and was waiting at the table before I’d even managed to take my own coat off!

I stupidly didn’t bother taking photo’s of the undecorated eggs, because I thought “everyone knows what a white egg looks like” – but am now wishing that I’d have taken a photo of them,  next to a real [chicken] egg  –  so that you could see the size difference.  They looked exactly like eggs from the smallest chicken in the world!  Even the little chap said over and over how cute they were. Bless him.

I put out all the ‘Fairy Colours’ of Pinflair Buff-It, and told him to choose the ones he wanted to use.  He wanted them all.  (Thankfully I’d left the pots of ‘duller’ colours in the drawer).

I got out a selection of [cheap – pound shop] cosmetic sponges and put one on top of each of the Buff-it colours and he went to town.  He needed no reminder of how to apply the colours, and was so delicate and gentle.  Finally, when every last bit of both eggs was covered in the magical colours, he took a tissue and gently ‘polished’ them and made them shine and glow.

Hand Crafted TINY Fairy Dragons Eggs

The Magical Eggs shone, and his eyes shone and twinkled as he gazed at them.

I then produced something which caused him to gasp.  A tiny miniature ‘cake’ stand and matching dome.  I told him that we were going to put these eggs inside the dome and then seal the dome so that no one else could ever touch them, and, even better,  they would never get lost!  “They’ll be sealed inside the dome for alllll eternity.  For ever and ever and ever!”  I said. (trying to sell him the idea because I thought he might not ‘see’ my vision).  He saw. He loved the thought that he would be the only person who knew what these eggs felt like in his hand.

By the time we were ready to put the eggs into the dome it was almost time for him to go home, so I said that I could do that bit, he just had to show me where to put the Fairy Dragon Eggs inside the dome so that I got it perfectly right.  He put them on the stand, and then carefully put the dome on top.  He sat at the table and looked . . .   then gave me a whole new set of instructions of exactly how he wanted things done:

“Grammy – they need petals.  Flower petals.  On the bottom, and the eggs on the top of the petals.  Like in a nest.  You put petals on there and then the eggs on the petals”.

He looked deep into my eyes to see if I understood.  I smiled at him and repeated what he’d said, pointing to the cake stand top, to show I knew where he meant the petals to be.  He seemed satisfied that I understood.

Daddy arrived to collect him, and the last thing Little Cobs whispered to me was: “Don’t forget the PETALS, Grammy!”.   Bless his beautiful heart.  He melts me every time I see him.

I did exactly as I was instructed to do.  I didn’t forget the petals:

Hand Crafted TINY Fairy Dragons Eggs 3

It was stupidly difficult to photograph the Fairy Eggs when they were sealed inside their dome home, as the light kept bouncing off the curves.  But I did manage one which isn’t great – it’s a bit dull and flat, but it gives a slightly clearer view:

Hand Crafted TINY Fairy Dragons Eggs 4
That’s a penny in the picture, for reference

As you can see . . .  I didn’t forget the petals.  😀  lol.

In the end, I loved the look of these so much that I’ve decided that I’m going to make some for myself. They look so impressive in real life that I just HAVE TO!

When he came on the Saturday, he fell in love with his Fairy Dragon Eggs all over again. He took them home at the end of the day, and his mummy (daughter No.2) told me a couple of days later, that the Fairy Eggs had barely left his side since he’d taken them home.  He was carrying them around with him everywhere he played.

I promised, in the title of this post, that you could meet the maker . . .  and you shall…

We’ve had snow here in Dorset in the last few days, and obviously, like all children do – Little Cobs wanted to play in it … and his mummy took photo’s.  She sent me some in a text message … and although I’m extra mega careful of sharing photographs of children on-line,  I asked, for the first time ever, if mummy would mind if I shared one of the photographs on my blog, so that you could see the little chap who I’m totally nuts about … and mummy said yes!

So here, with an enormous amount of pride [which bursts out of me like rays of the brightest sun, shining through every pore on my body], is my fabulous Grandson – Little Cobs…

…  I’m totally dotty about this child. He’s an incredibly handsome little chap.  The product of a very pretty mommy (daughter No.2) and a very handsome daddy (son-in-law, husband of D.No.2).   But …  he has my eyes – the same colour of Hazel, with the same flashes of gold dotted randomly around the iris, which really show up when he’s happily excited about something.

This isn’t the end of the crafty creations that he and I have made together over the past couple of weeks.  I still have one final thing to share – but that will wait for another day.

Thank you for coming and sharing a coffee with me.  Wishing you a happy rest of your day.

Love . . .

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

      lol
Aww Mrs.P, I’m tickled pink that you like the eggs, and puffed up with Grammy pride that you think Little C. is indeed a “cutie”.

Don’t fret over comments Mrs. P. I know that you’re a very busy gal. I pop over to your blog every now and again, just to check that WordPress hasn’t forgotten to inform me that you’ve posted something incredulous – which I’m convinced it does because it wants to keep things to itself. tsk tsk.

Thank you for coming, my much loved blogging friend. Love to see you.

  2. Such a handsome handler of the Dragon eggs. Those eyelashes! Why do boys/men have better eyelashes than us women??? MMMmmm.
Lovely post Cobs, those eggs are amazing for being so tiny. I don’t think I would have the patience for that kind of work 🙂 So nice of little C to want them to be on a soft surface, so why not flower petals, I do think the fairie’s would approve. Have a happy day and talk to you soon.

    1. Hello Sue.
Aw, it’s lovely to see you. 😀
His eyelashes … I know! They’re magnificent aren’t they. I can’t lay claim to him inheriting those from me – those absolutely come from his Daddy.

But you’re right … an awful lot of men have the most wonderful lashes, and I know that I stare when I see them. Can’t help it. I think it’s a tiny part of my heart wishing that my lashes were like that.

Sadly even with mascara mine still don’t get that beautifully long, natural lash look which I long for.

I think you’re absolutely correct Sue … like you, I too think the Fairies would approve of Little Cobs deciding that the Fairy Dragon Eggs should be nestled on a bed of petals. 🙂

Thank you so much for coming and also for the lovely comment. Bless your heart.
Have a wonderful rest of your day.

      So lovely to see you.

I truly am blessed. He’s an absolute delight.
The eggs … I wish you could see them with your eyes, for in real life the sparkle and twinkle that they have really makes you see the magic that they obviously hold. There’s something about them which holds your gaze. They’re truly mesmeric.

Thank you so much for coming Daisies, and for the fabulous comment. I very much appreciate the time you’ve given freely to do this. Bless your beautiful heart.

    1. Aw Little Cobs said he’s going to marry me. Not sure how that’s going to work, but it sounds like a fabulous, life time, job. LOL.

I truthfully can’t believe that he’s actually crafting with me Bev. He NEVER wanted to do anything when I suggested it. Suddenly it’s just happened and it blows my mind.

We had him on Sunday this week (because of the deep snow we experienced here), and I was in a little pain, so wasn’t in the right frame of mind to actually do anything which took brain power. But … he wanted to do something at the table, so I thought I’d show him the magic of punching out shapes from Shrink Plastic and showing him how they shrunk down to tiny wee little things.

So we cut out a large circle, then punched out some stars. Put holes in everything, then using the heat gun, I shrunk everything down while he sat there totally fascinated. Bless his heart. I wish you could have seen his face. He was filled with such wonderment and couldn’t understand how his Grammy was able to shrink things!

I’m beginning to think that he might have a suspicion that I’m some sort of magical witch. A Grammy shaped Harry Potter no doubt! LOLOL.

I reckon your little grands will eventually fall into the groove, just like Little Cobs has. Although mind …. I’m worried that he might just fall out of it at some point too. eeek!

I’ve already been over to your blog a little while ago. I’m trying to catch up …. seems like a never ending task over the past couple of weeks. I’ve responded too. 😀
Do I get a badge or a sticker, like at the Dentist?
      lol.

Love you Bev, and so does Little Cobs. He tells me when he sees your cards that you’ve sent to me. “Is this one from Beverly?” …. and after being told ‘yes’ …. “I love Beverly!”

He catches it from me I think. 🙂

Coo … You noticed I’d change the C to a different font! Well blow me down. I didn’t think anyone would notice. The Favicon/Site Icons are so small that I thought it would go unnoticed. I forgot what a highly trained detective you are, Chief Inspector Tom.

Lovely to meet Little Cobs – and bless him for letting loose with the creativity! I really enjoy reading your craft blogs, such pretty dainty and delicate items! The dragons that hatch from those eggs must be lacey and dainty…not scaly and fierce! (I’m reading the Game Of Thrones series at the moment)

What a great partnership and wonderful results, loved the idea of putting them in the little dome too! 🙂 xxx

Cherry Cake and Lemon French Fancies (which I renamed ‘Happy Cakes’ for Little Cobs, and that’s what he calls them LOL – his mother will kill me when she finds that out. lol) – and I have some rather fancy biscuits which are slathered in chocolate. There’s more chocolate than biscuit. We’ll be in a sugar coma by the end of this session. LOL.

The dragons which hatch from the eggs …
Oooo… well now you’ve given me an idea for drawing a dragon or two. Hmm…. Lacey and Dainty. I shall let this idea snuggle into my brain and see what my brain says.

You’ve used the word that I was trying to find – Glimmery. That’s what I was trying to explain about how they GLIMMER as you look at them. The tiniest movement is like holding something SO magical in your hand.

    1. Hello Hannah! 😀
Ohhh, thank you Hannah. I’m absolutely thrilled to bits that you like the Fairy Dragon Eggs.
Little Cobs did such a brilliant job colouring them. I have to admit that as he was splodging the colours on in a random fashion, I didn’t think in my wildest dreams that they’d turn out to be as magical looking as they really are.

When he polished them up with a soft tissue – the result blew me away. I think it stunned him too. He couldn’t put them down at first. He just sat there, turning them slowly in his hand, saying “wow!” over and over, really softly. His eyes said everything though. He was truly enchanted. Bless his heart.

The dome is actually plastic – but I thought of using it for the eggs so that the Fairy Dragon Eggs would be less likely to get lost amongst his toys. I didn’t want to give his mommy and daddy a frantic, tearful little boy, when it came to bedtime and he’d lost his Fairy Dragon Eggs! eeeek! (lol).

Thank you for your beautiful words about the photo of Little Cobs. I’m a very proud Grammy for a gazillion reasons.

        1. YES YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED THEM. BIG TIME!

          They’re by Pinflair and they’re called Buff-It
          Link: http://www.pinflair.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=buff-it

I use the original pots which are a sort of thick, creamy paste. They go A LONG WAY – you only need a tiny amount, – and because you’re only using tiny amounts, they last a looong time.

I’ve never tried the Liquid Buff-it so have no experience of those)

They look fabulous on your fingernails – but don’t stress, because it’s water based, it will wash off with soap and water and a bit of a rub.

You can do a gazillion things with Buff-it too. And it will go on virtually any absorbent surface – paper, wood, card – mm…my brain has frozen – but you get the idea.

You can paint with it, stamp with it, stencil … it makes beautiful backgrounds, and ….oh heck, all sorts of things, and …. you can blend the colours to make another colour too.

I’ll be honest – I haven’t tried it on Polymer – but I can’t see a problem. But if you phone Pinflair themselves they’re MEGA helpful on the phone and will very likely tell you if Polymer Clay and Buff-it work together. (They try everything out there so someone will no doubt have given it a go). They’re honest and if it won’t work they’ll tell you.

It’s a brilliant product, and I’ve been using it for … must be for between 3 or 4 years at least, and I wouldn’t be without it. Obviously it isn’t something I use every day – but then, I have a potato peeler and I don’t use that every day either, but I wouldn’t be without it either. It’s the same sort of thing.

To be honest I’ve got quiet a few things made by Pinflair, and I rate all of them really highly. From their different glues, the Rust-it, (which gives a really outstanding effect to things – especially die cut cogs and things that you want to look like old metal. Gentle Blends – (that was an eye opener when I used that – wonderful craft product which makes the most fabulous backgrounds.).

I highly recommend the company Hannah. Really nice people, really great products.
(Oh and I should say: …. I don’t receive anything from the Company for mentioning their products, no monies change hands, and I don’t get any free products either. Obviously …. if they’d like to send me some I’d be more than willing to ‘test drive’ any products that I haven’t already tried. lol)

If you want any more information Hannah please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m more than happy to be honest about products and companies that I use for crafty products.

Well done on the bus. I saw that you’ve been busy painting! Can’t keep a good girl down, eh? lol
You’re almost there Ricci. I can feel a change in you. Something that I can’t put into words, but it’s as if you’ve crossed a bridge. Great to see.

Ready for this journey and moreso ready to learn all about me… I am ready and I am grateful 💖💖💖 love and hugs to you always my friend 💖💖💖💖

    1. Hello my incredible friend. It’s so lovely to see you.

I too am in love with him. I was there, when he was born, and was left alone with him for a few minutes when daddy accompanied mommy to the shower. Those few moments allowed me just enough time to bond with him and for him to capture my heart.

I’m so happy that you see the purity in his face, for I see it too, and I’m not in least bit surprised that you feel drawn to him, for you have the ability to see people with your heart, which makes you so open to love freely.

I’m so proud of him Rabbit. But then, I think everyone knows that. lol.
Thank you so much for popping by, and for such a lovely comment. I’m tickled that I got to share him with you.
      Much love ~ Cobs. xxx

      1. oh he is beautiful inside and out. Why do I feel like I know him? Brag and brag often. It really is so important. Maybe more than we think. Let him hear you brag-and tell him he has a fan in the U.S. love Michele

        1. I’ve already mentioned you to him, because of the Daffodil poem, so he knows a little about you already and likes you. I’ve yet to show him your blog so that he recognises the rabbit and puts the two things together.

You probably feel you know him because I talk about him and mention him so often. (can’t help it – I love him to pieces).

Thank you, Rabbit, for being the incredible person you are. For I love the incredible person you are, dearly. ~ Cobs. xxx

            1. You’re right. I agree with all my heart. This little chap has a light which glows inside him, and appears in his eyes.
He’s so beautiful Rabbit – not just to look at, but inside. He’s a truly, incredibly, beautiful soul.
Sending love to you ~ Cobs. xxx

  14. Oh they’re so tiny, and so beautiful! And how perfect to put them on flower petals, Little Cobs obviously inherited your genius crafty streak.
It’s so nice to finally meet him, and see how very wrong the picture in my head was 😉 What a cutie ❤
