Christmas Wishes, Ho Ho Ho, and a Snowman ~ all handmade cards!

Like the proverbial bad penny, I’m back again, this time showing you some more of the cards I made for neighbours.  I’d got to a point this week where time was of the essence and I needed to find quick, simple cards which contained a smile – so these are a tiny selection.

Christmas Neighbours 2

I made quite a few of these Ho Ho Ho cards, on different shaped and sizes of card – some of which went into the post – but the ones going through the mail system: I lined one side of the envelope with some good gsm cardstock, so that the buttons wouldn’t split the envelope, or get damaged.  So if you make some of these which are going through the mail system, just line your envelopes with something which will take the brunt of any machinery or bad handling.

Christmas Neighbours 4

I made these with different coloured buttons and really mixed it up, depending on who I was sending them to.  But have to admit that my favourites were red buttons.

Christmas Neighbours 3

Another red button Ho Ho Ho,  ↑  but this time made with a square card as a base.

Christmas Neighbours 5

This Snowman card is destined for a neighbour with two children.  I thought it would raise a smile with them.  (And you can never go wrong when you add googly eyes.  Doesn’t matter what you add them to…  letter box…  CCTV camera warning signs …  wrapped sandwiches in lunch boxes.  Nope, you can never go wrong with googly eyes).  👀

Christmas Neighbours 6

Finally … the one that I think is my favourite …  more buttons again, but used as hanging baubles.  There’s something so friendly about these that they just make me smile.

Items used for these cards are:  an assortment of buttons, a black fine nib pen, Dovecraft Ribbon, Kuretake Clean Colour Brush Pens in 2 different colours of orange – for the snowmans nose;  Googly eyes; and the letter  ‘h’  from a set of alphabet stamps which I got free with a magazine about 12/14 months ago.

You may have noticed a Tree on one card, in the feature photo at the top of this post ….  (I repost this picture, to save you scrolling up again). . .

white collection 1

….  the tree card is in the middle at the back.  I forgot to take an individual photo of that particular card, but it’s made using a Christmas Tree made from Bark, which I bought from Anna Marie (in the UK), and I added a glass star to the top then used Stickles to add red baubles and Stickles in Christmas Green (a mix of green and red) to add ‘tinsel’.

And that …. as they say … is all there was to it.

I got the idea for almost all of these cards from Pinterest last year – but didn’t use the idea.  However, with time running out fast I looked around my craft room for things that could make plenty of cards in a short time …. the buttons yelled and waved at me from the shelf, so I took them up on their offer.   If you get yourself a little production line going, you can get plenty of these done in the blink of an eye.  I highly recommend them to those of you who are attempting to stretch the remaining hours before the day.

Thank you so much for coming, I love knowing that you’re here, so do stop and say hello in a comment, if you have time.

Sending Christmas squidges to all ~

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Oh what cute cards! I think I like the one with all the buttons hanging the best, but the snowman is a close second! I, too have seen some of these on Pintrest. They are all so cute and could be made in a flash! Thanks so much for sharing and have a great holiday if I do not visit again before the BIG day! 🙂

    1. Aw, thank you Nancee!
Yes, the buttons hanging like Christmas Bauble Decorations, is, I think, my favourite too.

You’re right of course … made in a flash is the right way to tell the story. Although, since I used glue gel to adhere the buttons, it meant over-night drying time, and finding plenty of places to leave them to safely dry – which in itself as a great achievement, since it looks like all the Elves on all the Shelves around the world did their worst in my craft room. Coo, I’ve never seen such a mess! eeek!

Have a wonderful lead up to Christmas, and may your Christmas day leave you full up with great food, and with a smile on your face as the day ends.

aw, I’m tickled pink that you like these really super-fast to put together cards …I do too!

Thank you so much for coming Ruthie, and also for taking a moment to leave a comment. I love to see who’s coming for a visit, and a comment allows me to keep in touch with everyone – which is something I just love, love, love.

Christmas Greetings you and your family. May Christmas bring joy into your house; love into your heart, and peace into your lives.

    1. Awww hello Mrs.P
I’m tickled pink to see you here. I was thinking about you this morning, so for you to visit here is such a glee!

Not sure I’ve put the elves to shame, but I’m certainly hoping that I’ve impressed them enough for them to tell Father Christmas that I deserve to be remembered. 😉

I hope that Christmas brings some smiles, some love and some peace. You’ve had some difficulties to get around, over-come and face, and I would like to see next year being a little kinder and in particular not bring any heart pains to your life.

I wish you, Mr.P, Neurotic Cat and Little Moo a truly lovely, loving, joy filled Christmas.

I’m also remembering darling Oscar. He was an enormous presence in your home and your heart, and to not remember him as the incredible, beautiful boy that he is, would be difficult. So I send love, Heaven bound, just for him – along with an air kiss, where a visible kiss normally would be.
All my love ‘P’. ~ Cobs. xxx ❤

      1. Dearest Cobs,
Your best wishes have brought a tear to my eye, Neurotic Cat seems a little ‘lost’ as she prowls the cottage looking for Oscar ~ not that she ever gave him the time of day you understand, she just kept him in check.
2018 will be full of joy, happiness & peace as I simply will NOT stand for anything less LOL have a wonderful festive, family, giggle filled Christmas and may the New Year be ushered in on the wings of Angels xxx

        1. You and I shall make a pact … neither of us will allow any gremlins to get into 2018. We shall take what comes with a chin lifted high and our combat boots on. We’ll kick trouble where it hurts so that it doesn’t even think about coming back for a second visit.

Sending you my love P…. and a bucket filled to over-flowing with squidges, with a prescription which reads: “Take one when required.”
Merry Christmas to all, and a very Happy New Year to all there in the Cottage on the Green, from all in Cobweb Cottage.

          1. Hope Christmas was everything you envisaged, ours was a family, film binging affair (Beloved & Moo revelled in Jurassic World) ~ Beloved is now pursuing tickets to a dinosaur spectacular arena show ….. deep sigh … I could always take my knitting then if one of the creatures get out of hand I’m well armed (obviously I mean Beloved or Moo I’m sure the dinosaurs will back down given one stern glance over my glasses LOL)
Sending you a huge cyber hug to welcome in the New Year (((( ))))

            1. LOL …. well, if you happen to see a worn out, bent over double grammy dinosaur, it’s me. Pop a bit of chocolate in my mouth for me, because those little arms don’t reach. LOL.

It’s a well known fact that Dinosaurs are TERRIFIED of knitting needles – so wave ’em about and they’ll run like billy-o. 😀

Christmas was so lovely that I didn’t want it to end. But … New Year comes around as regular as clock-work, and for some silly reason I don’t understand, it came around all too quickly. I really wasn’t ready to let go of Christmas when I was forced to because of the horrible bully that New Year is. It strides in and elbows everyone out of the way and then stands there with its hands on its hips, like some Super-hero who’s about to save the planet!

Love Christmas, but really don’t like New Year overly-much.

Sending BIG New Year Squidges from me in my corner to you in yours.
I hope this year is a truly lovely year for you.

  3. These are such cute cards! I’m also very impressed that you’re made all your cards. I always say I will but then never actually do. :/ Even though I did find cards with donkeys on this year that I couldn’t resist. 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas. 🙂 xxx

    1. Aww, I doubt I would have been able to resist cards with donkeys on.

Of course … since you take such fabulous photo’s of Dizzy … you could always produce your own Christmas cards – dress Dizzy up as a reindeer (antlers made from brown pipe cleaners perhaps?) – and keep the photo a secret from everyone, and get your photo made into cards for next Christmas!

Thank you so much for coming, and for leaving such a joyous comment.
I hope Christmas brings you love, joy and peace, and that next year delivers a little less pain and a lot more smiles.

  4. Very smart and time saving too.
I didn’t pre-make a lot of cards this year. As many as I send out yearly I decided to wait and see who cared enough to send to me .About as many as I figured but I did have to last minute a card or two. .Now I am ready to start all over with the new year.
ps. I did read a funny comment on Stamp Junkie fb,,Why would any one buy a $5.00 card when they can send one with $78.00 worth of crafting supplies behind it. Oh so true.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. LOL …. ah, but the hand made card is so much nicer for someone cared enough to spend a lot of their time making it for me. So I’d rather have the hand made.

I have to admit that I made my cards SO late this year that I’m surprised that anyone got one! Poor ol’ Mr.Cobs only got his yesterday! Mind you, it wasn’t a regular card. I made him an altered book ‘card’. So I guess I am kind of excused for the delay.

The only card I made this year which caused me quite some considerable concern was to a friend who’s husband had passed away in the middle of November.

I wanted to send her a card, as it would have been rude not to. But … I couldn’t send her a typical ‘Merry Christmas’ card or anything like that. It took me some days and two tries (and discarded for being ‘not right’ cards) before I felt that I’d got as near to what I wanted as I felt I was going to get and still get it in the post in time.

In the end I went for white upon white. White Card, with white die cut Christmas trees, with white ribbon tied simply into a knot, rather than a bow. Writing the card was easy for me, as I just reached inside me and let the words come out of my pen. But the making of the card was just so difficult.

I’m sure all your people care about you Bev. It’s difficult not to care for someone so lovely as you. But … maybe those who haven’t sent a card … perhaps they have had to pull their belts in a notch and cut down as much as possible on the spending – so cannot afford to buy and send cards this year.

Maybe there has been something happen in their life which has left them feeling very sad and they can’t find it in themselves to write happy things when they don’t feel happy.

Maybe a relative has been taken poorly and sending cards has gone to the bottom of the list.

Or perhaps …. they’ve decided to send New Year cards rather than Christmas cards!

Glad you like the time saving aspect of these cards. I can highly recommend them if you’re short on time, because they come together so well and so easily, but they kind of pack a punch in the smiles department, and they’re kinda cute too! LOL
And …. if you can buy your buttons cheaply enough, they cost just a few pennies each to make. Win/Win! 🤗

Sending you BIG squidges and lots of love ~ Cobs. xxx

      1. Oh…I have a drawer full of buttons and the card making is easier for me than the words which is another reason why I leave the inside blank on cards for sale .If someone cares enough to buy a handmade crafted card I feel like they have their own word to say…I just come up short in the word department…which is why my so called blogging is sparse. lol. I credit it to metal toxicity but that is another story.there
Bless DnL’s heart ….kido’s in tow she is cooking Christmas dinner for me and son#1 and wife Sunday lunch .this should be interesting. Remember son# 3 is out in the wilds of the south gulf

        Liked by 1 person

        1. How wonderful is she – your D.in.law I mean. She’s obviously a great cook and won’t break under the pressure of cooking for you all.

Shame that No.3 son is in the South Gulf, but I’m sure that Christmas will happen for himbwhen he eventually gets home.

With regard to the ’empty’ insides of cards . . . you just need gentle sentiment stamps: eg: Happy Christmas … Christmas Wishes – that sort of thing, stamped across the middle of the inside of the right hand page. It’s just a help to those who, like yourself are ‘short in the word department’.

Some folk get scared by an expanse of white card, waiting to be filled. Just one little sentiment can take away the scaredness.

A drawer full of buttons … awww, now button envy is creeping into me and I can feel it! LOL

I keep my spare buttons in little glass jars – all colour coded. Red ones, green, blue, white, pink, purple etc. It makes it simple to begin a search for the right one.
But then … I’m weird like that. Eveything has to have a place. lol

  5. Great cards. Never thought of using buttons?!?! Duh. They look great and thanks for the tips when mailing them out. I like them all, the Ho ho ho is simple yet to the point. It’s all about time isn’t it, especially this time of year. There never seems to be enough. I have to wrap a few things yet and get to making some treats.
The “new” neighbours (just bought in March) have invited myself and my other neighbour over for appy’s and a drink this afternoon. I have lots to do before then, so I had best get busy.
thanks for all you have shared with us today at this busy time of year, we all appreciate it Cobs.
Merry Christmas and wishing you lots of sparkle and magical fairy dust for the rest of the holiday season.
