Home Sweet Home – an Apron, using Graphic 45

One of my lovely neighbours is moving to a new home.  She put her property up for sale just a few weeks ago and it sold really quickly, too quickly for me, because I’m not ready to lose her yet.  (She has a lovely home so I’m really not surprised it sold so quickly).

Obviously I wanted to make her a ‘New Home’ card, but I didn’t want the usual sort of ‘new home’ card that can normally be found on the mantel shelves of new homes.

So I put my thinking cap on and came up with the idea of making her a shaped card using my Graphic 45 ‘Home Sweet Home’ papers.  And here’s what my fingers came up with…

Home Sweet Home 1
An Apron card, made using Graphic 45 Papers

Fortunately for me, I already had in my stash some Apron shaped cards, so I didn’t have to measure and cut that, it was already done.   I chose my patterned papers ensuring that the patterns were of the right size for the card and the plan I had in my head.  I used 4 different patterned papers from Graphic 45, and one paper from another brand of papers, which I had in my stash.

The pocket on the front of the apron was easy to make.  I simply drew half around a big pot of paint in my craft room and cut it out.   I added a toning paper to the top of the pocket, and then added some lovely green seam binding which I’d had in my ribbons for ages but never had the chance to use that particular colour of green.  It was a total delight to use it, as it’s such a fabulous vintage colour.

The Oven Glove (mitt) I drew out onto some card, then traced around the card in order to get a glove which matched the patterns on the card itself.  The additions of some buttons helped to hang things off the apron, and also anchor the ribbon neck to the top of the apron.

Home Sweet Home 5
Inside the Home Sweet Home card.

Again, the inside of the card was decorated with Graphic 45 papers and I added a Recipe Card for ‘Grandma’s Apple Pie’.  Yum!

Home Sweet Home 4

On the facing (inside) page is where I wanted to write the dedication (To/from) and the best wishes etc.  But I also wanted to add some little wooden embellishments which I had in my crafty stash, and thought they might look kind of cute, and tie the front of the card to the inside of the card ….Home Sweet Home 2

If you look on the ‘scoop’ you can just see a scoop of …. something ….

Home Sweet Home 3

. . .   is it sugar?  Salt?  . . . .  Maybe Grandma seasons her apple pies with something more ‘exotic’!  Who knows.  It’s her secret and it will remain her secret.

Home Sweet Home 1

And that’s all there was to it!

I haven’t taken it to my neighbour yet.  I’ll do that on Thursday as she’ll be busy moving on Friday.  I shall be so sorry to see her leave.  She’s an incredibly lovely lady and so kind.  I’ll miss her very much.

Anyhoo …. Here in the UK and Ireland, we have received a bit of a bashing from Hurricane Ophelia.  Although it was no longer a Hurricane by the time it reached the land of my heart and home, it still brought with it devastation and took 3 lives in Ireland.

On Monday afternoon here in the south of England, it went very quiet outside.  No bird song was heard.  Nothing.  Inside Cobweb Towers it became black as midnight and we had to put lamps on around the cottage because we just couldn’t see.  Outside – now that’s where things got a little freaky.  Everything turned, first, a warm orange colour.  But then it got darker ….  and darker …. and darker as the minutes passed until it became almost blood orange colour.   It was very strange and rather unsettling.

This didn’t look at all like a regular ‘natural’ phenomenon.   And from what I’ve read in the news this happened over quite a large area of the UK.  Apparently, in London, they experienced a double sun.

The weird thing is … that those  ‘in the know’  are telling us that it’s dust picked up perhaps in the Sahara,  by the Hurricane, and it was being carried in the winds.  But, and here’s the thing … it really wasn’t that windy here where I live.  I had washing on the line (which was brought in when it began to get ‘orange’ outside) and it was barely wafting in the gentle breeze we had going on here.  The breeze did pick up a little – but it really was only a little.  But the orange … well I’ll be truthful and say that it felt almost apocalyptic.

The rain came later in the day, and it was a good old downpour, but not for long.   Then … just to add a bit of interest to the day (as if we hadn’t had enough) …. we lost all power to our cottage.  Mr.C popped to the neighbours and they’d lost power too, and our other neighbour had obviously lost power as her burglar alarm was announcing it’s shock and horror at what had happened!  We got the candles out, and for a time we were living back in a strange Victorian age.

Of course … the power would go just when I was three quarters the way through on a ink painting!  tsk tsk.

It’s been raining again here today (typing this on Tuesday 17th Oct.) –  a downpour again this afternoon, but turning into just regular raining after that.

Here in the South, we’ve been really lucky, and I’ve given thanks over and over, because I was seriously worried that it could have been very much worse.  But, that orange  …  that is still puzzling me.  I checked my car over today to see how much of this  “dust”  had landed on my car, and considering how orange it got outside … there was very little dust on my car.  Certainly not enough to tell the tale of what happened here on Monday.

The more I think … the more difficult it gets to understand it.  So I’m stopping thinking.

Thank you so much for coming to visit and staying to read.  I truly love your company and love to see you here.  So thank you.  Without you, blogging would be a very lonely, silent affair, and I’d probably give up.  I continue to blog because I love the wonderful people I’ve met through blogging and have made friends with a lot of them.  Of course … there are one or two who I love to pieces … but they know who they are.

Wishing you a truly wonderful Wednesday.  May you be in receipt of joy, supplied to you from someone who likes you.  May you also be free of Orange Air and Red Suns.  Avoid those.  They’re freaky and I’m really very unsure about what they are caused by.

Have a truly blessed day.  ❤

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Hello wonderful Nancee!
I thank you heaps for the heads up about your house move. It gives me ample time to dream about what sort of card I could make you!

Hmm…. what shall I make for Nancee? Think brain,THINK!
      lol

The sky … weird is the right word. From where I was sat in the living room, I could see through into the conservatory and (obviously) from there I looked out onto our garden, and then further away I could see another cottage which was painted white. The cottage was a dirty shade of orange, and as the sky deepend in colour it became more difficult to see the cottage as everything went darker. Like having colouring pencils arranged in colours, blending from light to dark. That’s how the sky changed.

I wish I could explain it better. I can only say that it was horrible. Really horrible.

Christmas Cards … you’re in the guilty group with me. I haven’t made any either. Yay for us slackers!! LOL
Sending squidgs to you Nancee. Thanks for coming, and for the fantastic chat.

What a lovely comment. You are just too kind and wonderful for words.

I do think she’ll like the card. She’s had cards from me before and liked them. I’m not sure (laughing here) that she can believe that I’ve made these cards. Each time she’s got one of my cards, she looks at it, then looks at me and says: “. . . and YOU made this?!” … and each time, I’ve laughed and assured her that I did indeed make the card. Bless her heart. She’s so, so lovely, and I shall miss her, a lot.

Thank you so much Tam, for your incredible comment.
I enjoy your fun personality and beautiul heart too. And… I love to see your name here, as it instantly makes me smile and makes my heart warm.

Have a blessed day my lovely friend.

  3. Cobs….I always love coming over to visit…..even if it is by candlelight. That might be kind of adventurous actually. We could roast marshmallows over the flame and make s’mores.
I saw on the news the other night about the odd sky in London and wondered if you had the same thing. The pictures were so very weird. It would feel apocalyptic (thank heaven for spell check on that word!) Glad to hear you stayed safe where you are….other than ending up in the dark when trying to craft. That could cause some mental distress for sure.
We are having the most beautiful fall weather here and I hope it continues for a week or so. Would love to get my outside stuff done before the weather turns.
Have a blessed day Cobs! And yes!!! I love your apron cards. They are adorable and so so crafty.

    1. Hello Chicken! 😀
There will be no roasting marshmallow over candles here … I HOPE YOU’RE LISTENING MR. COBS!!! Don’t you dare, Mr.!

Aw don’t be putting ideas into his head Chicken. He forgets what he’s doing and we’d end up with Marshmallow Candles!! He’d set the whole house on fire! eeeeek. lol

I’m so glad that your news reports carried some pictures of what was happening here. The photo’s I’ve seen taken by people here, don’t, for some reason, show how orange everything became, and how it turned from a light orange, to a dirty orange and how really awful it looked. If I hadn’t given myself a talking to I think I would have had a meltdown, caused, I think, by fear.

Trying to craft in the dark, when the electricity went out …. aww… now that really wasn’t anything near fun. I gave up very quickly and decided that crafting in the dark was a challenge I wasnt up to! lol

I too hope your beautiful Fall (Autumn for us in the UK) weather continues for as long as you need it to so that you can get out there and complete the jobs you need to be done before winter.

Thilled you like the card. 🙂
Thank you so much for coming Chicken, and for the incredible comment. LOVE chatting with you.

  4. Gorgeous card, such a thoughtful one. It’s a strange feeling, isn’t it, being pleased for someone because something is good for them, but the same thing hurts you a little. Fingers crossed you get more lovely neighbours and stay in touch with this friend.

The dusty, dusky sky was definitely visible up here. I was at work and even some of the residents who are usually too cool to look at anything other people find interesting went outside to stare. We found it had similar effects on behaviour to the full moon. Luckily, we avoided most of the wind somehow. Poor poor Ireland, such a sad situation

    1. Poor Ireland indeed. Such tragic consequences from what is, in essence, the weather.

I think you were really brave to go outside in that orange weather we experienced. I closed all the windows and made sure both our cats were inside, because I feared what this orange stuff could do to their little lungs. (and ours too!)

The orange here wasn’t just in the sky … it seemed to float about down here, around the cottages. Everything was dimmed by this orange (almost) fog. It was kind of fog like – and it made visability decrease because of it. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

You’re right … it’s an odd feeling being happy for my neighbour, because she’s moving into something smaller and easier to take care of … but at the same time I’m a little miserable inside because she’s leaving the area. She’s such a truly wonderful person to live by.

Thank you so much for coming Isn’t She. Love seeing you here and adore chatting with you.
      Have a truly blessed day!

So very Thankful you are ok and weathered the fierce storm. When I saw on the weather it was going to Ireland I was in awe. I don’t know of any hurricane going there! It is Horrible! Goodness! I wish you continued Blessings and Joy on the rest of your week! XXX

    1. Hello Ruthie! 😀
Aww, thank you for your kind words and I’m just tickled pink that you like the card. I enjoyed making it so much.

The Weather … Hurricane Ophelia has really caused dreadful happenings in Ireland. Homes have been damaged, it’s caused flooding, and made the sea behave in ways it doesn’t normally. And 3 lives lost. A terrible tragedy.

After the Hurricane left Ireland it then turned it’s attention to Scotland, and caused damage there too.

I’m glad it’s over and I would like to think that it won’t happen ever again, but my sensible part tells me that it will and that we need to prepare better for things like this.

Thanks for visiting Ruthie, I love seeing your name pop up here. Somehow it gives me this feeling of everything being alright in the world. It’s a calm, lovely feeling.

  6. Aw what a fabulous card! The dinky kitchen tools are the cutest thing I’ve seen all week, and I love the mysterious scoop 😉
Our sky was deep dark yellow all morning up in Glasgow. We couldn’t see the sun for the clouds (as usual) so I’ve no idea what colour that would have looked for us, but it was all very strange.

    1. Hello Quiet Water.
It’s so good to hear from you. It tells me that you’re ok and that the storm didn’t cause you many troubles.

You’re right … very strange colour for our world to become.

Aw I’m over-joyed that you like the card, and the dinky kitchen tools too. Do you know … I’ve had those kitchen tools for such a long time that I can’t actually remember where I bought them from, or when. I’ve used them a couple of times before, on various projects, but it was so lovely to visit them again and use them.

Thanks for coming QWC, and for leaving a fabulous chat behind. Love talking with you.

As for the storms…this has been a very stormy year so far and goodness we have a couple of months to go.Tom wrote about the strange orange color too and having been in a sand storm before I can relate. I like things to be normal..what ever normal is. Love you.

  8. love card Cobs and I’m sorry you are losing a lovely neighbour. I know when my neighbour sold, I was dreading who would be moving in next door. My mind raced to a family of 7 or something with screaming kids that always wanted to play in the neighbours driveway. But, nothing of the kind happened and not that I don’t like children. I have lovely neighbours and we have fast become friends, they have been there 6 or 7 years now. Boy time flies!
I know what you mean by orange skies. We have had our share of “spookie” weather. We are now getting rain for two days! Dry as a bone then so wet the grass rots. Can’t win but at least its not snow yet. 🙂
I have an appointment to see a new rheumatologist this morning early, I don’t like early. My fellow passed away in June of this year and 2 weeks afterwards my arthritis acted up. I haven’t had this type of pain in years and I don’t much care for it, so I am glad this new fellow is willing to take me on, hard to find doctors of any kind, not nearly as easy as it was a decade ago. I am hoping for relief soon.
Must get on with it, no time to be on here. I hate to leave but I must. Wishing you a great day.

    1. Ohhh Soozy, I’m so sorry to hear that your arthritis is playing up so badly that you’ve had to seek out a new rheumatologist for help with it. You must be in an awful lot of pain. Aw, I shall add you to my ‘Prayers List’.

The weather … well I guess nature knows what she’s doing … but that orange creepy foggy stuff on Monday really did worry me. Not anything near ‘normal’

I’m thrilled that you like the card Soozy, and I’m so glad that when your own neighbour sold and moved, that you got some new neighbours who are lovely.

Thank you so much for coming Soozy. I hope your new rheumatologist is wonderful and helps you with your pain.
Rest … warmth … and not running round like a spring chicken … that will help too. 😀

  9. Your neighbour will be so thrilled to get your card Cobs. I wonder at that dust. We did not have it here and thankfully Ophelia had downgraded by the time she reached Donegal. The children got a day off school and the shops closed. My garden is intact. I was over at the Rabbit patch and read your comments on your health. I do hope you can get some answers and perhaps medication that might allow you to return to driving. I will keep you in my prayers. X 🌼🌼🌼

    1. Hello Daisies 😀
I hope she likes the card. She’s liked other cards I’ve made that I’ve given her, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for this one. I want her to be able to display it in her new home so that it gives her a smile.

The bad weather … I’m SO thankful to hear that you had no troubles there where you live, and that your garden is intact. I did think of you, and pushed a prayer out, asking that everything be OK for you.

Thank you Daisies, for your prayers. Very much welcomed. Bless you. I have to have some more tests and more bloods taken (I’ll be running on empty if they take much more! LOL), but I have hopes that my lovely Doctor may have already found the problem. I’m not going to jinx it by naming it… I’m just going to wait and see. (But apparently it’s something which can – more often than not – be sorted out!).
