#InkTober2017 – If the Hat fits, Wear It!

Well since we are in the Bewitching Month of Ghosts, Ghouls, and adorable little ones dressed up in their finery …  I thought I’d better get in the mood, so I ‘inked’ a Witches Hat while the Witch was wearing it …. but she’s only allowing you to see her Ruby Red Lips!  She’s clever like that.  Magic!

I made this inking for #InkTober2017 on a Postcard!

I bagged a bargain of over 90 Kanban Postcards for just £3.99 a few weeks ago in a Create and Craft sale.  The postcards came in a selection of 3 different sizes, with sweet little pictures on the address side,  and a simple, decorative background on the other side.

Kanban Postcard Cutie AssortmentSince I like to use postcards quite often in crafting projects, it was a no brainer.  I jumped at the chance of buying them, as they were such a bargain.

They’re rather good quality and very thick, so I knew that they’d take the ink without it bleeding through to the other side.

The Witches hat was first drawn with an ink pen, then I filled in the colour of the hat using black writing ink as I wanted to ensure that the writing I was planning to team with the hat were the exact same colour of black.  The ribbon band on the hat was made using teal coloured Drawing Ink.  (The buckle was added with a fine paint brush, using copper drawing ink)

The Witches Ruby Red Lips were coloured with an Ink Pen in a deep red colour.

I added highlights where the light would naturally hit the hat, using a silver drawing ink, applying it first with a brush and then moved it around with my finger tip.  I’ve taken the next photo with the flash on, so that it really showed up where I’d added the highlights.

Once the hat was inked and the lips were in place … I first pencilled out the words (to make sure I got them in the right places), and then inked them.  The highlights on the letters were all done with a Gelly Roll Pen.

Finally …. I dabbled some black ink on my glass mat and added a few drops of water, then picking up a little ink on my brush I spattered some ink over the card.  I then did the same with some copper ink.

Of course … any Witch worth a cauldron, wouldn’t be complete without a Wand!  ….

The Wand  was one I made a while ago, meaning to put it for sale, but it got packed away when we were moving house and was never sold.  I came across it, along with a couple of others, fairly recently, so thought I’d include it as the Witches Wand to make the whole thing ‘complete’.  All she needed now was her black cat.  Which I have (Alf Capone) … but it’s so difficult to photograph black cats!

Anyhoo …  as I am want to say …  That’s all there was to it!  🙂

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course).         1. It would be weird . . . and possibly dangerous. Poisoning.
          It’s abolutely a NO NO.

          You can buy Lip stains though. However,my best lip product was a lipstick which lasted all day. I cannot remember the name – but there are plenty of them around now to play with. I’d go into town and into a store which carries plenty of different ranges of cosmetics, and ask to see their ‘all day’ lip products in a colour you like.

          Ask if they have a tester – and if it’s a pot rather than a lipstick, get the consultant to apply the colour. Then tell her that you’ll test it out over the next few hours – having a coffee (look to see how much lipstick is left on the cup), and kissing people – on the cheek – or if no one is available – kiss the back of your hand. After a few hours of doing these things – and talking to family/friends, check in the mirror to see what you think of the colour is left on your lips.

          If that one doesn’t do it for you – try a different brand and do it all again.

          Since they’re not cheap lipsticks, it’s worth doing this exercise and putting them through their paces, to make sure you get the best one for you.

      Well you know what they say about hats … Red Hat, no kni_____. Black Hat, TONS OF THEM! 😀

      Your Inktober Creations … hate me if you must but … I think you’re over-thinking the whole thing.
      Maybe stop trying to make a story out of them, and instead just ink pictures you like.

      The ‘theme’ is only a suggestion for when you get stuck. You don’t have to stick to it. So instead … do what you are good at. Use your imagination and let it roam. You might think of something before you go to bed … or when you wake up. On the way to work. Lunch time – etc etc etc. Make a note of things which just pop into your brain … and even draw a very rough sketch of what your vision is. (only rough mind).

      I have a four sheets of paper in my craftroom from my note book (6″x7″ book) with little notes and sketches so that I understand what it was I was thinking when I made the note. And I can call on it whenever I feel the need. (I know how a blank bit of paper can leave you frustrated and your mind blank).

      I think you’re putting in too much effort into the story …. end the story, and just say … I did this drawing for InkTober **th. 2017. You can say (if you wish)that you got your inspiration from watching a dog shaking off the pond water after it jumped in. Or a spider spinning a web. Or a frisbee flying over a tree … etc if you want to. But you don’t need to.

      The only reason I give details about my inks is more to tell what I used in the making. The inks, colours, pens, makers, where they can be bought, etc.

      Where-as the truth about this witches hat is … I have an affair going on with the colour teal (hence the ribbon), I love buckles on ribbons. I don’t like pointy hats. (hence the broken point lol) and … the red lipstick …well that’s the exact colour that I love, but no longer wear as I feel that colour is the colour of my twenties, which I dragged into my thirties (because my skin is so pale it really popped), but … that I no longer wear as I feel like I’m trying to be that young bit of a thing that I still am in my head, but I really can’t carry off anymore.
      (what a sad story is that … well not to you, but the girls out there will get it. lol).

      Oh … and if you want to add a little colour to your drawings, then you add it kiddo. It’s YOUR drawing. You do whatever the darn well you like with it. So long as it’s got ink in the mix somewhere, then it passes the bar for Inktober.

  6. I love this. Those lips are so effective.

    I look beyond ridiculous in lipstick or gloss (my hair gets glued to gloss, tried it twice, never again!) because I have big lips – mum says people pay a fortune for them, I think I’d prefer to be able to paint them that fab red without looking like a 5 year old who got into her mum’s makeup

    1. Isn’t she …. If you’re over the age of 22 but below the age of 36, you wear that colour and be proud of it. Just be careful to get the lipline correct. Make sure that you get an evenly shaped mouth. (Use a magnifying mirror if you like).

      Big lips … You’re mums correct! Women pay a small fortune for that Bee Sting look!

  10. Love it! So dainty and detailed, a bewitchingly beautiful witch! Or are the ruby lips a red herring and the rest of her is terrifying which is why she’s wearing such a big hat so she can go shopping and not frighten people…

  15. omgosh I LOVE that wand. =) Bippity Boppity Booo =) see I need it. I used to dress up as a witch every halloween lol. It was always my favorite costume. You did a amazing job with it. That photo with the flash is awesome. I love all the details. Fantabulous My friend! ❤ xoxoxoxoxoxo =)

      The wand… aw I’m thrilled you like it. It has a gifted wood base and is quite long. All the ‘beads’ you see on the wand handle are real gems. There is a selection of specially selected gemstones, picked by me, for their specialised properties.

      The ‘leather’ ribbons hanging from the very end of the handle, aren’t actually leather. They’re ‘faux’ leather – no animal products in any of my wands!

      Thrilled to pieces that you like the InkTober inked drawing and the flash photo. I was chuffed to pieces when I looked at that photo and the flash had actually picked up the ‘hi-lights’ on the hat. So glad that it worked.
