#InkTober2017 ~ Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head…

Another painting for InkTober, but this one is more simple in its design.  However, it’s ALL done in drawing inks. Even the colours are drawing inks.

You can buy drawing inks from various places and from cheap as chips to a years salary.  The inks I have are on the cheap as chips scale but, as you can see, if you know how to make them work for you then they’ll work for you.  And, since I was, for the first time, joining in with Inktober, and wasn’t sure that I would take this form of art up as part of my crafty loves, I didn’t want to invest in expensive equipment.

Crawford & Black Acrylic Drawing Ink

The drawing inks in the above photo are the coloured inks I bought to try, and which I used for this inking.  I bought this whole set of glass bottles of coloured drawing inks, 6 bottles of Black, Brown, Green, Blue, Yellow and Red, all of them in screw top bottles with an ‘eye dropper’ set into the lids, so that you can lift as much or as little ink out as you need.  The whole set cost me just £6.00, and (so long as you’re in the UK) you can buy them from The Works  <–Link to these inks, opens up in a new window for you.

It’s quite a thick looking ink and not the thin runny stuff you might be used to. It’s not the sort of stuff you can use in an ink pen.  But you can, to some extent, manipulate it and dilute it with water a little.  I would strongly suggest that if you buy some, you play with it first on some scraps of watercolour paper so that you get accustomed to how it likes you to play.

I also have some Rose Gold, Copper and Light Silver Drawing Ink, made by Ocaldo.  Again, I found these as a set of three for £6.00 at  The Works  <– link opens in a new window for you.  The link takes you to the set of three inks, but they are available as individual inks for £2.50 each. (in the search bar at The Works simply type ‘Drawing Ink’, and it should give you the various selections it has).

I used the silver for the central rod of the umbrella, and tiny touches of it for the silver bits inside the umbrella which make it hold its shape when it’s open.  (I have no idea what those silvery bits are – possibly, maybe the ‘frame’ – perhaps?).

#InkTober2017 Raindrops keep falling on my head 2
#Inktober2017 – Taken with the flash on to make the silver ink show up – but the flash has dampened down the red of the umbrella.  It looks more like the first photo at the head of this post

The blue of the raindrops was made using the blue from the Crawford and Black set of inks, and the pinky red of the umbrella was created using the Red from the same set.

And that’s about all there is to it.  A simple little ink drawing.  It was about all I could come up with as  ‘inspiration’ has apparently taken a sick day.

For those who are singing the song … (and for those who like a little movie nostagia now and again) …  the song and clip from the movie ….

I hope your Tuesday is or has been a truly lovely one.  May the rest of your day be blessed.

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Gorgeous! It’s lovely that you’ve showcased ‘cheaper’ inks, it makes it look so much more accessible. (I’m like you in that I might not invest masses of money in a new branch of craft until I’ve tried it out to see if I like it.) X

    1. Hello lovely Mrs. Craft 😀
To be truthful although I have a couple of black artists ink pens, and some brown/purple/blue ink artists drawing pens – if I needed a lot of black ink, I simply used a bottle of black ink. The type you buy to use in your regular ink (writing) pen.

Since I had some bottles of [ink pen] ink – I couldn’t see the point of buying the different ‘arty’ inks.

But I have a great need of colour. I see that an awful lot of people who are doing the InkTober challenge are only using black ink. Now that’s fine and dandy and it’s not wrong. BUT … . . . it’s too bloomin’ dismal. (for me)

I think I’m just not a lover of drawing only in black. It brings the mood down. Hence the reason that my drawings are more often than not, a riot of colour. Bit like my craft room had a tequila party while I wasn’t there! LOLOLOL

The cheaper inks work for me because I’m not convinced that this is something I’ll keep doing. Drawing with inks is an acquired taste I think. It’s great to try new things and I’m glad I’m giving it a go. At least I can say I’ve done it. (Even though I’m falling behind. Real life can be such a pain in the UknowWhat, can’t it?!)

Thanks so much for coming Mrs. Craft, and for your brilliant comment. I’m thrilled that you like the ‘brolly’.

  2. Wonder how she kept that long skirt out of the spokes of that bike.? LOL
Good inktober drawing. I love unbrellas and I love rain ,which we still are in need of.
Today is a “bad” day. Two washing machines down. To expensive to fix. DO NOT BUY a front load machine. Repairs on mine would be …are you ready…$1049.00 plus labor. NO! Yes!On my mother …$300-$400. Good grief.
New stuff came in today. Can’t wait to see if I can make up what I have in mind. XOXO

    1. Hello Beverly.
It seems that this week is the week for Bad Days to happen for you and me.

I’m sorry to hear about the washing machines. $1049 to fix it? Would it be cheaper to buy a new machine? Or is this one of those big almost industrial types of washing machines?

New Stuff? Is it crafty stuff?
If so .. that will put a smile back on your face. Craft stuff can’t help but make you smile.

            1. Good for you Beverly. Spending that much money on old machines could be a bad move.

New ones will come with a guarantee and you’ll be able to phone them if one of them breaks down during the guarantee period.

I think you’ve made the wise decision

  3. Sometimes the simple ones are the most effective 🙂 I love the little splashes where the water’s dripping into a puddle.
It might just be time for a wander down to The Works at the weekend!

  4. Love your blog lady, you are so talented, and funny! Maybe a bit of silly thrown in, but don’t we all need some of that these days? I used to be arts and craftsy, but the best I can do lately (besides writing) is coloring in an adult coloring book when I MAKE the time. One picture has taken me a year so obviously I don’t MAKE time enough, lol. You go girl, I’m loving looking at all of your Inktober drawings!

    1. Hello Kim, it’s really lovely to ‘meet’ you! 🙂
You’re right I think, a bit of silly is thrown into the mix which makes ‘me’, me! LOL. But like you say, we all need a bit of that in our lives. It’s the folks who’ve forgotten their inner child who don’t seem able to add that pinch of silly, who I feel so miserable for. For that brand of silly keeps us above the place where misery can grab and keep a hold on some of us.

Time … yes, that’s the thing which we are all touched by in some way, shape or form. It’s like ‘enemy No,1’, in that it has a type of control over us all.

Perhaps you need to book an appointment with your colouring book. Perhaps an hour, once a week, when nothing else will take it’s place. (Much like a doctors appointment type of thing).

That type of arty enriches your life in ways that you can’t explain, but it leaves you happy and that brand of ‘happy’ spreads itself through all areas of your life.

Thank you so much for visiting Kim and for leaving a footprint behind. It’s so great chatting with you!

    1. Apologies for the late reply Hannah… WordPress put your comment somewhere else and I’ve only just found it!
Yup … The Works … Mr.Cobs used to love that shop too … now he says really bad words about it and gets this wild eye look. It apparently has something to do with money I spend there, and that he would be better off being a share holder.

      Men! Huh. tsk tsk.

      1. Ha ha, I think wordpress must be having a bad day. I just discovered your reply as I had no notification of it. A little while ago I found a comment of yours from weeks ago that hadn’t been approved although I’m quite sure I had replied.

As for The Works, I can easily imagine the bad words Mr. Cobs says and I guess the wild look in his eye is the same as the flash of despair my husband has across his face when I ask him to drive me to Hobbycraft lol. Hxx

Yes … Mr.Cobs has developed a special ‘look’ about two shops: The Works, and … The Range.

AND . . . He just totally passes out if I mention the words: “Graphic 45” and “new collection” in the same sentence! LOLOL. C.xxx

    1. MIss you? Of course I did! But my aim is getting better. LOL

One day something will grab you in such a way that you’ll simply HAVE to give in to it and have a go.
Until then … I’ll just hang around and wait. lol

  6. Best umbrella ever…mine invariably break, fly away, turn inside out and try to rip handfuls of my hair out…

Had to laugh at your comment about Mr. Cobs’ “look” about the Works…my partner gets the same look when I mention the Works..or Waterstones..or WHSmiths..lol!

    1. I used to have umbrellas like that Samantha . . I solved the problem by not going out if it’s raining and windy lol.

Mr. Cobs has a selection of ‘looks’…. which I acknowledge, and studiously ignore. 😀

  7. It’s so lovely that you’ve added the song to this post! Makes it more authentic. I’m happy that I haven’t had to use one of those brollies things for quite a while, only to shield me from the hot sun 🙂

    1. To be brutally truthful, I’d rather like our country to be back how the weather normally is. Gardens, parks and wildlife are suffering greatly with this continual heat and scorching sun.

But I can see that it suits a lot of other folks. Living by the seaside it’s a time for holiday makers, and our beaches are filled with happy noises and burning bodies. Sizzling in the sun like rashers of bacon. lol. I just hope that people heed the warnings and put plenty of protection on themselves, and more importantly their children.

I’ll stay home and do the rain dance. lol.

Thank you for coming and for taking the time to leave a message in this hot August of 2018.
Have a blessed rest of your day. ~ Cobs.
