A couple of weeks ago I read about something called Inktober from a fabulously talented fellow blogger. She talked about Inktober and gave a link, [Inktober Link – will open in another web page for you] so I went to have a look.
In 2009, Illustrator Jake Parker set out to refine his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. That year, for the month of October, he challenged himself to create a drawing every day using only ink-based products. After watching how his technique evolved, Jake decided to dedicate every October to his passion for ink drawing – and “InkTober” was born. Since then, InkTober has grown into a worldwide movement with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.
Jake says on his blog that anyone can join in the fun. You don’t have to be a fully paid up member of anything, nor wait to be invited. You just pick up your ink pen and draw! You might not call yourself an artist … but once you pick up your pen and draw … YOU ARE AN ARTIST!
The ‘rules’ are:
You don’t have to do it every day. You can do it daily if you wish, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. InkTober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.
So … now it’s my turn!
I roughly pencilled out my drawing first then using my Kuretake Zig Millenium (005 size) in Pure Black (this pen is recommended for drawing and scrapbooking) I drew a Daisy.
But … me being me, I couldn’t leave it there, and I had to add a little colour so … this is what happened:
The pens used in this drawing/picture are all made by Kuretake, and the colouring pens used are called Clean Colour, Real Brush pens.
The colours used are:
- Flesh
- Gray Tint
- Yellow
- Bright Yellow
- Mid Green
- Pale Green
I bought a full set of these pens after seeing them demonstrated. I’m not a colourist by nature, I’m a painter – and because of that I have a real problem making colourists colouring pens behave in the way I want them to. But … I’m finding these Clean Colour pens to be outstanding. There is no need to use those special blending pens which I’ve found you need to use with some other artists colourist pens. These just know exactly what you want them to do and do it – as if by magic. And clean up is moments.
So … now you know what InkTober is about … how do you fancy joining me on a bit of drawing this month? You don’t have to be Picasso, Dali, or Degas. You just have to be able to pick up and pen and draw anything you want to. Boxes, triangles, trains, fish, mouse, sheep, a flower, … anything.
Please …. come and join me in the journey with a pen. Any journey is way better when you have a friend to hold hands with.
NB – Although I’ve sung the praises of Kuretake pens, please know that I receive nothing by way of a gift or monies or payment of any sort or description. I simply tell you what works for me and what I’m impressed with. I don’t work for Kuretake or represent them in any way. (It might be a dream, wish or even on my bucket list. But it’s only on a post it note pinned to the wall of my brain. lol)
Please consider having a ‘go’ at this. It’s all just a bit of fun and you’re not competing with anyone, and there’s no prize. It’s just a few minutes of fun every day, while you’re having a coffee. Do it. Take a photo and simply post it on your blog!
Happy October, by the way! WHITE RABBITS!
Have a blessed rest of your day.
Happy October to you too, Cobs! This is my most favorite month…out of all my numerous other most favorite months. I will take up the challenge…even though I cannot use my right hand correctly…that is correctly YET! I have never heard of these ink pens, but I will be going on a shopping spree to JoAnn’s and other such stores tomorrow. I can easily get carried away with purchases in these type stores. Clearly…I will have to place the blame for any EXTRA purchases on Cobs from England!!! I must admit that I am totally intimidated by your pretty daisy! I will be entering the very, very mini marathon… similar to walking around the block a couple of times!!
Lots of love from Kinder🎨🍁🌻

Ohhh hello Kindergarten.
I’m so thrilled to see you. I’m covered in goosebumps. Seeing you here tells me that you are on the mend and beating that Ogre called Stroke into a pulp!
How BRILLIANT that you are going to join me on this Journey with a Pen. This could also be very good for you in several ways. Not only giving you some crafting time, but helping you to move forward and get stronger.
You don’t have to use a special pen Kinder, just about any pen will do it. And you can draw anything you like – which is a bonus!
I pray for you all the time and have had several ‘chats’ with The Lord about you. I don’t exactly ‘chew his ear off’ … but I think the message is getting through. lol
Now don’t over-stretch or push yourself too far. Remember that too much of anything isn’t good for you. Just do a little more each day. A LITTLE more!
Sending heaps of love and wishing that squidges were healing … but they are a warm hug ~ Cobs. xxx 🌷 🌷 🌷
P.S. … you can blame any crafty/arty purchases on me. I don’t mind. (I’m too far away for Mr.Kinder to tell me off! lol). 🌷

Oh Cobs, that daisy is beautiful. I would give anything to have your eye for colouring. I would do much more stamping if I could even colour as well as you do.
I will not be joining you on this endeavor. My drawing skills never developed beyond creating a stick worm. (Think stick man form, but a worm.)
However, I will promise to do some stamping and colouring this month in your honor.

Aw bless you Scrappy. I’m really not in the least a colourist. There are some blogs I follow which I practically drool over how talented these gals are who can take a stamped image and turn it into something magical.
I shall look forward to your stamping and colouring. (And I bet I drool over it. lol),

Hello Isn’t She 😀
When I saw the Inktober details I thought that exact same thing. What a lovely challenge! Hence the reason I decided to take part. Just a bit of fun with no struggling to compete. Love that sort of artistic challenge.
Thanks for coming, and for the lovely comment.

Hello Mrs. Craft. 😀
October is a special month to you? Are you willing to share why?
Yes … I’m not so much looking forward to what I come up with as wondering what the heck I’m going to do next! LOL!

Just because I have happy memories of the build up to having my first baby, who is nearly 6! I remember feeling so excited about his impending arrival even though work was tough (thanks to horrid management who lacked empathy). Autumn always reminds me of that special time. He looked like a squashed pumpkin when he was born too, very seasonal! 😂

Awwww heck…. I’m all beside myself with hug bubbles and fun bumps now. How beautiful a memory is that!!!
I loved being pregnant too. I seemed to get the homing instinct and really nested from about month four with both of my girls.
Great time.
Then they were born and the panic started! LOL
Love you Mrs. C. … but then … you know that already.

Oh Lord.
I hated our sell/buy 6 years ago. It was so easy when we were new buyers and still fresh out of the box. We had a rented place to llive and everthing went pretty smoothly when we bought our cottage. BUT … when you have a property to sell, and need a property to buy before you’re homeless… that’s where the worry starts.
I knew we could find a rented place down south, but with so many animals – dogs, cats, bunny, I also knew that there would be few renters who would take us with so many pets and there was no way I was putting any of them in care.
So I do feel for you Kim.
I’m glad you’ve found somewhere to live. I hope it’s a place that spoke to your heart. Still in Dorset? Or did you have to wander over the line?
Sending you heaps of good moving vibes, and praying for the hell to end asap.

Hello Quiet Water. Can you believe that we’re already in October? I feel like it should be June or maybe July …. but October? GASP. This year is flying by and I feel like I’m missing at least two months.
Someone has stolen them, I bet.
Looking forward to seeing your doodles!

I’m quite sure that your drawing is perfectly perfect. You just look at your own stuff with a critical eye. We all do it. Post it on your blog and I bet you get to see it with a different eye once people begin to comment.
Yup … someone stole September. I’m pretty certain on that fact.
