Have you ever wondered where Fairies get their Fairy Dust from? Well wonder no more dear reader, for I think I’ve found out. But more about that in a moment . . .
I need to share with you something which I discovered last month in Aldi.
The photo above shows a large, A3 size, pad of 40 sheets of Watercolour Paper, of 100gsm, which I found in Aldi last month. (July 2017). When I spotted it and had a feel of the paper I have to admit that I wasn’t overly impressed in any great way. I’m too used to my usual thicker, water-colour paper. So I put the pad down and went to walk off. But … this sneaky little thought popped into my head: “hey, it’s just £2.49. Give it a try.” … So I bought it.
Because of a move around in my craft room (and the chaos which that sort of thing creates) I only got chance to have a play with it yesterday, and I’m rather glad I decided to buy it. It’s not the sort of watercolour paper which you can flood with water, as its a finer paper and the water will eventually be soaked up and will then wrinkle your page, but if you know where you’re going, have a plan and don’t soak it, then you can get some decent results. Added to that . . .if you’re putting the resulting painting onto a card, then it doesn’t add any great weight to the card, which is perfect.
Using Kuretaki Gansai Tambi watercolours, and also their Starry watercolours, and with the help of a bit of acetate, I created the background you see above. Because I used the Starry watercolours – in 2 colours of Gold, it was a little difficult to capture all of the patches of gold using my camera. If it were a video, I could have moved it a teeny bit so that you’d have seen the light catch all the areas of the fabulous gold paints. (Anywhere which looks like wet paper, or like I’ve spilt tea on it is actually twinkling gold paint which the light didn’t catch)
After the background had dried (with the help of my dear friend – the trusty heat gun!), I went to work on the flower.
Most parts of the flower were hand stamped, but some parts were drawn because I didn’t have a stamp which was either the right size or shape, using my friend – Stamp Perfect – a stamp positioning tool. (A Christmas present last year, and I love it for moments like this) .
What you’re looking at in the photo above is my Stamp Perfect, with a stamp attached to it, ready to stamp on to the background. The top half of the Fairy Flower had already been stamped, and I was adding the curled back sepals. If you haven’t met a stamping positional tool before and want to know how it works I found a video on You Tube which will help way more than I can here, and be far more entertaining than me too:
The photograph above is the flower after I’d finished stamping, (and drawing parts of it) and after I’d watercolour painted it.
Finally … I embossed around the edge, using a little Tonic Embossing Powder, and then adhered the flower to a 6″x6″ white scored and folded card, added a ribbon and Voila! One hand painted Flower Power Fairyland Card.
And that’s all there was to it!
Apart from explaining the Fairy Dust ….
Do you see at the top of the flower as it’s opening … with what looks like wiggly lines and dots? Well . . . That’s the Fairy Dust, escaping from the Fairy Flower Power Pod. See? THAT’S where Fairy Dust comes from. I know this to be true because my Unicorn, which lives in my back garden, told me so. 🦄 🤣
Happy Wednesday!
Did you know . . . that according to research by a tanning company, women look oldest at 3.30pm on Wednesdays? Now I KNOW this to be an outrageous lie because I know that you girls and I look terrific at all times!
I will admit that when I stumble out of bed in the morning, my hair looks like five miniature kittens have been playing in it all night – but that’s easily calmed down with a comb. And … I do seem to have bought a couple of really spiteful mirrors which are obviously designed by cosmetic companies to try to trick us girls into thinking that we have a spot on our chin which is being kept company by a hair to the left of it. But .. I decided quite a long time ago that I would no longer look in those mirrors, and from that moment on I’ve looked practically perfect in every way! (so long as I don’t have my glasses on).
Oldest at 3.30pm on a Wednesday? Don’t make me laugh. I’m ONLY 27 years old – as we all know, for goodness sake!
Did you also know: that a recent(ish) survey in the US reported that bosses are most receptive to requests on a Wednesday? Now I can’t prove this, buy hey, what have you got to lose? Obviously asking the boss when he plans to leave as you want his/her job, might not go down terribly well, but I guess you could give it a go, so long as she/he has sense of humour!
[. . . thinks:- . . .] . . .
- “I wonder if anyone is still reading?
- Maybe I should buzz off and stop sitting here like a target.
- Oooo, what are they talking about on the TV?
- Do I need to turn those curtains up? Hmm, I don’t know… what if they shrink when they’re washed?
- Aww, look at the dog, she’s so cute when she does that.
- Uh Ooooo, here comes Alf Capone (used furniture dealer – but actually a cat), he looks bored, and that means he’s going to cause trouble by playing Cowboys and Indians throughout the house, and trying to get Maisie or Belly, or both, involved in the game.
- Coffee…. do I want another coffee, I wonder?” eeek!
I have to agree with that last ‘Did you know?’ for I am, (easily distracted) and I do (talk to myself).
Aaanyhooo – that’s enough from me. All that’s left for me to say is: …. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Find the joy in each moment. 😀
What a pretty card – and you make it sound SO SIMPLE! I do like that stamp positioning tool – it might go on my Christmas list this year. I often try to make several cards the same so no fighting about who got the prettier one at Christmas, and that would make it SO EASY! as well as line up layers on a more complicated card. Leave it to you to have all the good toys.
I like that info about asking the boss on Wednesdays… maybe they say yes because they feel so badly for us looking awful on Wednesdays? 🙂
Glad you got rid of those broken mirrors. 🙂

LOL … the broken mirrors … I still have them. I just keep them to torture them with my beauty. (yeah … I can nail Jelly to the wall too. pffft lol)
I make it sound simple because it is. I don’t do difficult…. because my one brain cell goes into sleep mode if I do.
The stamp positioning tool is BRILLIANT! And even more so if you need to produce the same card over and over. So yes… add it to your ‘Wants from Santa’ list.
But remember . . . you have to be a good girl!

Aw Salpal … you’re way too hard on yourself.
The way to (almost) guarantee the receiving of the stamping tool is to mention it daily, every time you walk past the person who you want to buy it for you.
“OOh, I must show you this … it’s amazing!”
“Ummm, did I show you that folder thing?” (being vague helps)
“Did you know that you can buy that stamping tool thing on Amazon?” (show them the tool on Amazon and exclaim what a good price it is.
Little things like this, daily, are a sure fire way of planting the seeds of ‘buy it for me’ into the brain matter.

You are so funny! I will do something like that, but not until after I return from my trip next month. the person who would buy that for me is the same person who is not making a fuss about me spending oodles of our cash to go meet strangers and buy MORE yarn and fiber. 🙂

Lol…. aw heck… I don’t know who I want to squidge more … you for going to meet strangers and buy even MORE yarn and fibres… or that certain person who’s not making the fuss about you going and spending the contents of your bank account on more yarn and fibre. lol.

Fairy dust from flower pods…..of course…why didn’t we all know that…we needed to be reminded. Your fairy flower is a WOW! factor. Love the colors and the scale is perfect.
Yes, I go off on ‘rabbit ‘trails quite often and wonder why some things take so long to finish. I do have trouble collecting my thought these days I am having to think for to many people who either aren’t here any longer or refuse to think for themselves. Life…there is a trick to dealing with it. Just know it is all small stuff.xoxo

I’m totally chuffed to bits that you like the card Beverly. I so enjoyed making it and thinking about how to get the result I had in my mind.
Like you … I wander off mentally and go to a happy place, many times a day. But … I can relate to having to think for some other people who either refuse, or can’t be bothered to think for themselves. grrrr.

The paper … I’m really glad that I told myself to buy it. It’s a lovely fine paper and I’m thrilled with it. (And at the size it is, it’s going to last me ages!)

After all …. we are all Princesses. We KNOW for sure that we never look anything but wonderous.

As for the Wednesday oldest at 3:30 thing, remind me to not look in a mirror on that day and time. I wouldn’t want to scare myself.

LOL…. I’ve organised a total shut down of all women, at 3.30pm on a Wednesday, every week from now on. I don’t see why we should have to agree, so disagreeing was simple. We’d close our eyes and then we couldn’t be seen in any other light than the gorgeous beings we actually are. Simple!
lol
Glad you liked the card Mary.

Pretending is definitely a good way to go when you can’t close you eyes. I shall stamp the idea with the big APPROVAL stamp, and add a ‘free coffee’ sticker to your card. You can redeem that any day you visit. 😀

First things first….what a beautiful card! Such bright cheery colors! I love it! Wednesdays? Okay. I will have to give that a try….hmmm, what shall I ask for???? I know what you mean about those pesky little mirrors….however, I seem to have mirrors all over my house! Yikes! I have learned to not even look in them! LOL! All of our bedrooms (3) have mirrored closet doors, mirrors in the bathroom over the vanities, mirrors on the wall by each outside door, and floor to ceiling mirrors on both side of the fireplace in the living room! Oh yeah, when we took out a wall between two bedrooms (we originally had 4) we sealed off one of the doorways and put a recessed shelf in the wall, and yes, you guessed it, put a mirror behind it! LOL! Whoever buys our house when we sell it, will need to love mirrors! I must have been crazy when we redecorated! Whew! I work from home on Wednesday afternoons! Thank goodness no one sees me when I am looking my oldest! LOL! I do believe you could be on to something…short attention span, wandering thoughts, easily distracted….yep, I can say this happens to me…a lot! LOL! What great Wednesday thoughts! 🙂

Awwww Nancee….
well I’ve sat and thunked seriously about you placing mirrors in your home so that they catch you unawares, and here’s what I’ve come up with as ideas…
You’ve possibly been hypnotised by some trained employee of a mirror factory or at a local store where you buy your mirrors from. They are obviously doing this to maaaany women, and ensuring that women everywhere are keeping their company afloat. These poor ladies are drawn to the shop to buy at least one mirror every size months or so, until eventually, every wall in their house has a mirror hanging on it, and these ladies have even extended this addiction to their gardens, and have mirrors on the walls and fences of their gardens too.
OR … it might be your husband, who suggests that “a mirror would look nice there darling” … as a secret way of ensuring that you keep yourself beautiful for him.
Or … it could be that you’re as mad as a March Hare and have this secret need to catch sight of you in as many angles as possible at 3.30pm on any Wednesday that you’re in the house. Having so many mirrors maximises the chances of catching yourself looking the worst you possibly can.
Of course … you’re not registering that at any other time you look FANTASTIC! So fantastic that you could be a supermodel if only you realised that you’re not the Wednesday 3.30pm Woman!
Summing up … I bet your house looks so spacious and lit up from the inside because all those mirrors will be reflecting the light and bounce it around the rooms.
As for the attention span … erm … I can’t remember … oh… now what was it …. oh! how embarrassing I can’t remember what I was saying…. tsk tsk. Do you get that too? LOL
LOVE seeing you Nancee, and having a bit of Friday Fun …. on a Wednesday post … but on a Friday …. talking about what I posted on a Wednesday …. hmmm… I knew originally where I was going with this and now I can’t remember.
NURSE …NURSE …. I’ve gone again. Can you give me one of those remembering tablets please? You know the ones….. the lovely coloured ones which taste like chocolate and you hide them in the Smarties tube!
A red one this time please!

I’m totally lost on the … “Nice, sparkly cupboard.” … unless you’re … ahhh… hang on… does it have something to do with being distracted? Do you have a nice sparkly cupboard?
(I’m totally terrified of euphemisms – they travel straight past me because, apparently, I’m too innocent to ‘get’ them. So …. if it’s one of those you’re going to have to explain it – but keep it clean lol)
Thrilled you like the card. I know it’s a bit girly or feminine so perhaps wouldn’t appeal to some guys, so I’m chuffed to pieces that you even came and looked. Thank you.

Oops. No, nothing in it, Cobs. My mind wandered. Meant to say ‘Nice sparkly COLOURS!’ I had pretended to be distracted toward the end of the comment there, and in doing so lost track for real at the beginning. Hehehe!
I didn’t see the card as girly, just flowery, although some may say that’s the same thing. And not edible flowery, either! 😉 Couldn’t resist with that last part…

LOL… I need to send you some edible flowers OHHHH… … … 🙂 that’s given me an idea.
Before I go … I just went to that emoji page that you found and kindly shared. Because, up there where that smiley face is which I just placed in that last paragraph, I actually wanted a lightbulb. I thought a lightbulb would be a nice touch. However ….
[cough]
…. upon searching for said lightbulb, I discovered some not seen before emoji pictures, one of which was a large nose. Just a nose by itself. Looks like it’s probably a mans nose as it’s more manly in appearance. BUT … as I was scanning the many lines of emoji, it wasn’t a nose I saw.
I have never been so quick on a double take. It took me ages to find said nose again, but I found it, as I really needed to check out what I’d seen wasn’t what I thought I’d seen.
It was a heart stopping moment Tom…. and I just had to share it with someone, because once I realised that what I thought I’d seen actually wasn’t what I’d actually seen, it then became a really funny moment of giggling and mentally kicking myself.
Go and find the noses and take a look yourself. There are a few there. All the same shaped … just in different tones and colours. Do have a look.
phew …. I’ve laughed so much that I’m crying and sniffing.
I just had to share it. ~ C. x

This one? I couldn’t find the nose emojis, so I Googled it and found a few that way. They do look rather comical, all together like that! And their appearance does tend to morph somewhat, the more you look at them…. 😉

I can’t even imagine what one would need to use that emoji nose for. I mean … what? To tell someone they smell? Like you can smell someone on the net?!
To say ‘stop sniffing’? You can’t hear them on the net!
I reckon that they’re there to stop the hearts of gals like me who scan over the emoji really fast looking for, in my case, a lightbulb. Or some such other thing.
Grief! They caused me enough pain and shame! LOL.
