Copper? Show Stopper!

One of my family members was to celebrate their 7th Wedding Anniversary and I wanted to make them an appropriate card.  I found out that the 7th Anniversary can be one of two things: The Copper Anniversary or Wool Anniversary.

For a moment it did cross and entertain my childish brain that I should do a little felting project with some wool tops, and make a couple of sheep and fix them to the front of a card,  ….  of course that would be ….  after I’d done a watercolour bit of painting to the card and done the grass;  perhaps with a stream running through the field;  some hedging;  oh and a TREEObviously it would have to have a tree! …  and some birds standing in the treeMaybe Blue Birds of Happiness!!  And maybe I should add birds in the sky too,  and how about a farmer coming through the gate?!!

But perhaps not.  I would probably have gone over the top, [snigger]  so I decided upon Copper.  But a Copper what?  Pot?  Saucepan?  Wire?  Copper what?   I Googled and up popped copper wire, coil, strands, mines, even copper piping for plumbers,  …. and a Copper Kettle card which I loved, but felt it needed a bit of  ‘cobwebbing‘ …. so I designed a card kind of like it, but a leeetle beet different. (say that in a French accent, it sounds so perfect. lol)

tsk tsk … back to the topic Cobs!

Copper, Improving society since the dawn of civilization!

I made the kettle from Copper Mirri Card and ’rounded’ it,  firstly by gently manipulating it with a bone folder, and then putting different thickness’ of foam pads so that it held the curve.

Copper Kettle 7th Anniversary 4
Taken from the side and slightly above, to try and show the dimension which the copper kettle has.

Although I’d printed the ‘Seven Years’ in a coppery colour underneath the Copper Kettle, I wanted it to be almost like hot coals, so with the help of an embossing pen I added some warm coppery Cosmic Shimmer Embossing Powder, embossed it,  and LOVED the way it turned out.   I embossed the handle of the kettle with another embossing powder (which I’ve had for donkeys years, and never seems to run out) in a darker shade.  Finally … I drew dots and flicks with the embossing pen, so that the ‘fire’ under the kettle threw out ‘sparks’ as it crackled with the heat.

Steam Close up COPPER KETTLE

I’d printed some ‘steam’ coming out of the spout which, if you look closely, it says  Copper…  7 years… and it’s bendy and steam like.

Copper It’s Elemental!

The card looks way nicer in real life than it does in these photos.  I tried my best to get good photo’s but I failed miserably.  These are the best of about 25 photo’s.

I will never get an award for photography.  :/

Copper: The best jewellery to turn your skin GREEN!

But anyhoo …. that’s all there was to it!   😀

Copper: still essential

Happy Sunday!  I trust that your weekend has been throughly lovely and that you are getting as much joy out of it as you can.  I think we should all treat weekend like dirty laundry.  Our aim should be to get that laundry spotless and get every last bit of dirt out.  Likewise weekends.  Get every last bit of joy out of it.  Squeeeze  it until it’s exhausted and you’re happily tired.

Have a truly blessed rest of your day.  ~

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Oh what a great card! I love that kettle! So cute! The added embossing really helps make the card. You are so clever! Oh I am trying to squeeze all I can out of the weekend…every last second! I have managed to get quite a bit done….2 cards, have family over for swimming, cookout, household cleaning done, and even spent some time reading! Whew! Maybe I need to go back to work to rest up? Ah, but Monday will be here before I know it! Have a great week! 🙂

        1. Nooo…. don’t stand … sit. SIT! lol
Cooooo… I’d have been a very lucky girl to have got the words I needed in a set of stamps. I wish I had though.
I designed it, manipulated the words so that they were a little wavy and skewed, selected the exact colour and then…. struggled over and over and over … (in all 8 times) to get my bl**dy printer to accept the thickness of card that I use for my card making.

I’m telling you …. I didn’t now I knew that many swear words …. or indeed, THOSE particular ones!

The problem was … I had a vision and I knew what I wanted it to look like. I did take a fruitless search among my squillion stamps (I really must get rid of some of those!) but sadly nothing came anywhere near to what I wanted, so it was done the hard way on my old printer – which can be an absolute sw*ne sometimes, and act up like a DIVA.

Sometimes I think I want to change ‘him’ (I know it’s a man, I just KNOW it is), but I know that if I keep trying do make him do what I want him to do, he will (most times) eventually give up and give me the joy I require.

Besides … what’s to say that if I go and buy a new one … it could be even worse that this bad boy who lives in my craft room at the moment! grrrrr.

          lol.

          1. I regularly fight with our printer. And as soon as I get things exactly as I want them regarding paper and placement, the blessed thing runs out of ink. Usually a color I didn’t know was in the color I want. 🙂

            1. LOL…. ah I’m not the only one then! 🙄 I wish one of the big bods in printers would see the gap in the market and bring out a printer designed for us crafters of the world. They’d make an absolute fortune because we’d all buy them. (and I’d be first in the queue)

  2. What a thoughtful card Cobs. I bet the recipients are thrilled. Wishing you a great week and a wonderful weekend. I am taking a couple of weeks off from mid week and have scheduled posts ahead so will not be on my Reader for a bit. x

    1. Hello Daisies.
Thank you so much for your beautiful words on this card… and I can confirm that the recipients really did like it.

I shall miss you while you’re away, but I so want you to have a truly lovely time and hope that the time doesn’t race past as it can do, but allows you instead to feel the joy and freedom from the ‘norm’ in the same way you used to as a child, during the summer holidays from school.

    1. Hello fabulous Hannah.
Aw thank you for your commen of sheer happiness. Bless your beautiful heart.

Do you know … I didn’t realise exactly how much I was missing you until your name pops up here. I truthfully feel my heart smile and kind of ‘lift’ the moment I click the little bell with the orange ball on it, over in the top right hand of my blog page here, and see your name. I’m so glad that you’re back to blog land again. SO glad.

Sending BIG squidges to you and yours ~ Cobs. x

            1. I can relate. 12 months ago we had a dreadful time with Virgin, and I was on the phone to them SO many times that they eventually properly fixed what ever it was which was causing the problems and eventually arranged a proper amount of compensation for everything they’d put us through.
Tell them you’re planning to leave them if they don’t get their act together within 14 days.

              1. Its very annoying but the plus side is that my kids have learned what life is like without wifi. We have these strange things called toys and lots of craft products they have rediscovered lol. Hxx

                1. They need a pack of playing cards. Cor, the joy I used to get from a pack of cards, when I was young, was unistable.

Building card houses was something I learned patience from! (although mind … more patience would be a good thing lol).

Snap was my first learnt game followed by Black Jack, … but move forward a few years and (courtesy of my Grandma) I learn’t to be a real card sharp. 3 card Gin Rummy, Bridge, Poker, Crib …. and Happy Families (but not with childrens cards as those were a luxury my Grandma felt she didn’t need) LOL.

Give ’em a pack of cards Hannah and teach them a few games – snap being the obvious one, and building card houses. Then leave the table to ‘make the lunch/tea/go to the loo’ etc …. and let them get on with it to see how they go with the cards.

I taught both my girls card games from an early age, and as they grew it turned into regular nights playing cards – even in the summer. We would sit outside with candles and lights lit, playing cards until we suddenly realised that it was pitch black and we’d been playing for four hours! LOL.
                  Awwww… love card games.

                  1. Card games are a great idea. I used to love playing cards and, as you say, building houses.

Oddly enough the internet is working for the time being and they haven’t once used it! Lego and Hama beads are out and they have been content for most of the day. Hxx

    1. Hello Tami! 🙂
Well, you rascal, you now have me singing the darn songs too!
If I go to bed tonight still singing them I shall be having a word with your Angel about it, and will be telling him/her that he/she has to ensure that they (gently) trip you up by sticking their toe out at an appropriate moment. Not to make you fall … just to trip.

So when that happens … just remind yourself that your Angel did that… as a personal favour to me for making me suffer the ear worms I’ve got going on!

      You rascal!
