Happy UnBirthday Balloons ~ an ATC for World Watercolour Month

Who said you could only have a balloon on your Birthday?  Actually .. why have balloons become a special occasion item at all?  When I go back to my childhood (not too great a stretch of my imagination, admittedly) I can remember the joy of being given a balloon!

I’d actually seen an image very like this painted onto a birthday cake for a little girls birthday.  It had obviously lodged itself in my brain, and because I’d been thinking about birthdays (my own only being a few days away.  not hinting or anything), and who can have a birthday without cake?  (NOW I’m hinting.  Cobs Snr. take note: CAKE – if I can’t have *this one*,  then I’d be very happy with *this one*  … or even *this one*)

Back to the ATC Cobs!  …. …  …  …  with the white mount:

Happy UnBirthday 2
Happy UnBirthday!  An ATC made for  #WorldWatercolorMonth

This little ATC took me a bit longer as I’d over wet the watercolour paper before I began so once I’d sploshed some colour on for the background, I had to wait a while for that to dry.  Patience not being one of my strongest points (I try.  I really do try) …  I eventually plugged my heat gun in and ‘helped’ it to dry.  (read:  forced the little bu&ger to do as it was told).

Happy UnBirthday 3

Once it was finally finished I rather liked it.  It had a gentleness,  which I loved,  and innocence – which made me think of me.  (yeah,  I’m laughing at that one).

After trying the mounts ….  I think I actually like it naked.

I think I’ll cut off the border (which I leave on so that I can handle the ATC while I’m painting it),  and I might even mount this one onto a card.  Perhaps a Birthday Card or a ‘hello I was thinking of you‘ card.  That sort of thing.

Thank you so much for coming and for sharing a few minutes with me.  I so appreciate your company.

I’d just like to say a warm welcome to some new followers which have joined our happy team here in the last few weeks.  I won’t mention you by name, but you know who you are.  It’s lovely to have you here.  Don’t be afraid to comment and let yourself be known.  I’ve found that I’ve SO enjoyed some comments on other people’s blogs that I’ve clicked to see what that person is ‘about’, and ended up following them.  So please do make yourself known.  Who knows … you may end up with a few new followers!

Well … it’s Thursday already.  Someone has stolen two days out of my week this week.  Tuesday and Wednesday have gone missing altogether.  If I catch that little rascal who’s snaffling days out of my weeks I’ll grab him by the collar and shake the little divil until all the days fall out of his hiding places!  pffft.

Have a wonderful day.  Remember … do it to them before they do it to you …  be nice to people that is.  Smile at them.  PLEASE!!!  This sort of thing  WILL  make the world a better place.  C’mon!  Let’s heal the world…  it has to begin before we can win.  Let it begin with us!

Sending great big Thursday Squidges ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Oh what a great image! It almost looks like the balloons will just help her float through the day! Love it! Happy early birthday! I’m sure you tell us when it is your birthday, right???? And we will get to see a photo of the lovely birthday cake Mr Cobs gets for you, right? I’m not sure where your Tuesday and Wednesday went…I certainly didn’t take them. I don’t need my work week to be any longer than it already is…you can have mine if you want…I can do without them for a week or two! LOL! Well it’s off to get some shut eye before Thursday rolls around!

    1. Helloooo Nancee.
Hope you slept well and are full of bounce and joy. 🙂 (I’ve never seen you be anything else) lol

When I began painting I did think that I’d paint more balloons and have her floating off he ground… but once I’d painted her I realised that I should have created her to b smaller than I had in order to have more balloons, and actually have her lifting way off the ground. tsk… a rookie mistake!

As for the Birthday cake … I doubt that I’ll get anyone of those … or anyone at all! lol. But hey, a girl can dream.

Thanks for coming Nancee, and for the lovely comment.

        1. LOL… see …. this is why we get along. We KNOW what it is which happens in our world. We have to organise our own stuff because everyone else doesn’t know how to do it because they’ve always had it done for them …. BY US! LOLOL.

Ah … I’m not expecting anything at all for my birthday. I think I’ve had too many of them, and I’m also of the belief that my over-use of being 27 again … and again … and again … and … well, I’ve done it rather a lot of times.

Maybe I should throw one final celebration of being 27 … balloons, party banner, napkins etc and then move on to ‘I’m oooonly 28’ … and use that for a few years.

  2. Another lovely artwork! I like it without the border too…almost like the little girl will be carried away off the edge of the card…🎈🎈🎈🎈

  3. I love balloons…the more the merry. Have you seen the little movie ‘UP’ where the house get lifted up with all those balloons? Love the whole story .
Now …surely Mr. Sr. Cob will come up with a cake and I hope it is better than the one I put together for my mother’s birthday. She just turned 94…yes 94 and the cake tasted pretty good but was only 2 inches high. Same recipe made a hundred times but who knows what happened.
The watercolor is just too cute and I am so proud you and Tom are keeping up. Sadly…I haven’t, but I’ve been working on a display for my cards. Fingers crossed please. xoxo

    1. Fingers, legs, toes, and eyes are all crossed (not looking my most attractive right now! lol).

Aw thank you for the praise and encouragement with the Watercolour painting challenge. I’m really enjoying it.

I never expected you to be able to keep doing it Bev. I know that you’re busy and that your cards are your ‘thing’. Time is precious, so we have to use it carefully.

Yes …. seen the moving UP and LOVE IT! It makes me cry in some parts, but it’s such a beautifully made film and it has such wonderful messages for children.

Cake … is cake! Be it 2 inches or 22 inches tall. Who care how tall it is. If it tastes good and was made with a beautiful thought behind it, then it’s an OK cake in my world.

94!! What a fabulous woman she is. She made you … she must be incredible.

  4. This is lovely and I think I prefer it without the mount too. The mount ‘contains’ the balloons too much whereas without it they literally look as if they could fly off the paper taking the girl with it.

I am so cross that I haven’t managed to do the watercolour challenge but am thoroughly enjoy seeing your paintings. Fingers crossed that Mr Cobs takes the hint about the cakes! Hxx

    1. Hit the nail on the head there Hannah… your right the mount does contain the balloons. I knew there was something ‘uncomfortable’ about putting a mount on it, and you saw the exact thing.
You are SOooooooo brilliant. See … this is why I love you!

Being truthful here…. I did actually think about dropping you an email in case you hadn’t seen the Watercolour Challenge. But because you hadn’t posted anything I just went with holidays and busy.

Don’t fret about missing out … a certain blogging friend and I are … ‘in talks’ … and I say no more. 😉 😊

  5. I really like this one; to me, it is lovely because it captures the essence of childhood. Well, not mine. When we got balloons, we ran threatening to pop those of others, or let the air out slowly as we stretched the balloons neck so we could make squeaks and squawks, or had contests to see who could sit on their balloon and pop it the fastest. And a quick question: what are squidges?

    1. Ohhh Aunt Beulah … I would have loved to be part of your fun.

Squidges …. they’re like a hug, only a teeny bit tighter. Imagine a warm hug with a great friend, who hugs you in such a way that you bunch up your shoulders with glee at the hug. THAT is a squidge!

Thrilled you like the ATC watercolour. Bless you for coming and for leaving such a great comment.
      Love chatting with you.

  7. I adore balloons, so naturally I fell in love with your little painting. Is raspberry the common denominator in cake wishing? It would be wonderful if I could loan you our grandson to make you an American cake. He likes baking cakes for friends. Our cakes are not works of art like English confections, but his cakes taste good.

    Happy birthday!

    1. A girl after my own heart. I love balloons. The dog isn’t keen, and the cats positively hate them … but I’m rather fond of them.

Raspberry just happened to be in the cakes I saw … I checked the reviews for the cakes and the ones I chose had good reviews. (And mentioned ‘moist’. A cake HAS to be moist (not wet) in my view).

A cake from your grandson would have been wonderful. Cakes don’t have to be a work of art, they just have to be yummy to eat.

Thank you so much for the early Birthday wishes Anne … I shall save them until the day, and I’ll tell everyone that some of my smiles are because of my friend Anne.
      Bless your beautiful heart.

  8. Yet another good’un, Cobs. I like the freedom expressed in this one, which is more apparent in the un-mounted photograph.
(Oh, and in case I miss it… HAPPY 27th BIRTHDAY TO YOU! Enjoy your cake!)

  9. Dear Cobs,
My birthday was this month too!!! I didn’t get any balloons so I am going to pretend that this delightful little girl is me holding my own birthday balloons!! It really won’t be that hard to imagine because I feel like this precious girl on the inside most days. 😀
I hope you have a fantabulous birthday!!
Sending you tons of cakes filled with the sweetest blessings!!

Late Happy Birthday to you uuuuuuu.

Whenever it was, I wish you BIG birthday wishes.
My birthday hasn’t quite yet happened…. so I’m still waiting…. waiting ….. waiting.

Not entirely sure why I’m waiting … I’ve had plenty enough of them before so I can’t imagine that anything will happen differently to surprise me! LOLOLOL

You strike me as the little girl in the painting…. you are very much connected and in tune with your inner child. I recognise this because my inner child is alive, well and fully functioning at all times of the day or night.

Thank you for the tons of cake filled with sweetest blessings.
I shall scoff it until it’s all gone. (Lets see someone try to pick me up then! LOLOL)
