I Grew a Flower Baby in a Pot! ~ an ATC painted for World Watercolour Month

When it said on the packet:  “Baby Seeds” – I thought it was referring to the size of the flowers which would grow.  I didn’t think I was supposed to take it literally!

Ah I’m joshing with you really.  I didn’t really grow a Baby in a Flower Pot!  I painted a baby growing in a flower-pot …  in ATC size, especially for World Watercolour Month.

Flower Pot Baby 2
an ATC sized painting for ~ #WorldWatercolorMonth

I got about half way through this and wasn’t entirely sure that it was coming out as well as I wanted it to.  I nearly gave up and started again.  Not sure what pushed me on, but I’m so glad that I did because I fell in love with this little scrap by the time I’d finished.

If you look carefully at the photo above, you can just see the pencil marking of the actual size for an ATC/ACEO ~ and that size is:  2.5″x 3.5″.  I tend to cut a piece of watercolour paper just a little bigger than that size so that I can hold onto the card and move it around, as I’m painting ~ without spoiling the painted image with a finger or thumb marks.

Flower Pot Baby 3
an Artists Trading Card sized watercolour painting, painted for  #WorldWatercolorMonth

I tried three different mounts on this little hand painted card and all three seemed to bring out different aspects of the card . . .

Flower Pot Baby 1
A Flower Baby Growing in a Pot ~  an ATC/ACEO painted in watercolours, especially for  #WorldWatercolorMonth

The green mount seems to pick out the two little green leaves growing from each side of the Baby.  Is she/he perhaps ….  a Fairy or Angel Baby?  Are the leaves in fact ….  wings?

But … I think my favourite mount colour, for me, has to be the creamy white mount:

So … which mount do you prefer?  Blue?  Green?  White?  Or perhaps you prefer no mount at all.

Anyhoo ….  HAPPY SATURDAY!

I hope your day is sweet from morning till night, and that the Bluebird of Happiness flies over your house and leaves a little magic happy dust, sprinkled from its wings, over your home.

Whatever you’re doing today, do it with all of your heart, for that’s where your happiness lives.

Have a truly blessed Saturday my friends.

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Ohh thank you Tam! I’m thrilled to pieces that you like it, and that you noticedthe background!

I wasn’t too sure when I got half way through, if I’d perhaps blended that colour a little ‘off’, as it was drying slightly darker than I wanted it too. So I’m over-joyed that you actually like it.

Thank you for coming, and for leaving such a truly lovely comment.
God Bless Tam. Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Oh what a cutie! I, too, love the cream colored mat. It makes the whole painting pop! What a cutie! Perhaps I can borrow a few of those seeds to grow my own??? Love it! 🙂

    1. Hello Nancee 🙂
      Thrilled you like her.
And… so glad that you feel the cream mat is the right one. Like you, I felt that it brought all the colours in the little painting together, and none of them shouted louder than any other when they were teamed with the cream matt.

Thank you so much for coming Nancee, and for leaving such a great comment.

  2. What an adorable little “sprout”. I am partial to the cream colour myself, at least it looks cream on my computer.
I am on my way to bed but I thought I would drop a quick line just to say good night. 🙂
I will talk to you tomorrow/today.
    hugz from here to there.

  3. Interesting insight into how you make your ATC, I cut them then struggle with some of my edging, I’ll try your way. This is so cute, love the idea, and white for me too

    1. Hello Isn’t She C. 🙂
Aw it’s so lovely to see you.

I learned maaaaaany years ago that I needed to measure the ATC and mark it up with soft pencil lines so that it was a reminder not to venture outside those lines, but then add on a little extra all the way around so that I could touch the sides without messing with anything I’d already done, or putting finger marks onto it. I’m forever getting paint (or glue) onto my finger tips and half the time I don’t notice it …. and then can end up making a total mess of whatever I’m doing.

Try it Isn’t She C. you can trim it back to size when you’ve finished – or if you have items extending outside the card (glued items), then perhaps save yourself the worry that you might chop those things off … by cutting the section where you can see that item extending over the pencil line, just before you glue it in place etc.

Thank you so much for coming and for taking the time to leave a comment.

    1. Hello Anna 😊
      Happy Saturday!
LOL … all three mounts? I think that might make things a little tight if it went into a wood and glass frame! eeeek!! LOLOLOL

Thrilled you like it, and what a great thought! Baby Gifts! I can see that idea working brilliantly.

Thank you Anna for coming and for the fabulous comment, and for the uplifting encouragement. Bless your beautiful heart.
Have a truly magical weekend, filled with smiles and warm memories for you to enjoy when the weekend comes to it’s closing moments. (and for ever-after too!)

  4. Isn’t it odd how colorful mounts can change everything. Of course …who knows what the real color is …you know how things change on this PC of mine. Cute is the word for your flower baby . You really are doing so well with this watercolor thing. I just spend so much time doing cards that time slips by. Now I’ve got to get outside and clean up all the grass clippings. We have had so much rain no one can keep up and the yard could be baled instead of trimmed. More.more.more….the month isn’t over just yet. lol

    1. The mounts: I know! Each mount seems to either kill one colour or highlight another.
The Blue mount did seem to remove the warmth, so I tried it with a flash on the camera. I perhaps shouldn’t have done that, but ah, too late now.

I know that different monitors are set differently so the colours might show up differently on your screen, but I would say that for the nearest to true is possibly the ATC without any mount, closely followed by the ATC in the white mount.

At least … on my monitor it is.

I’m really enjoying the watercolour challenge – and even that I added to the challenge by saying I’d do the whole thing in ‘small’ – by painting them all as ATC’s,

Good luck with the grass clippings.
We have your rain now. Horrible stuff which is getting me wet right through, Although today … it’s that stop. start. stop. start. can’t make it’s bally mind up rain.

We’re on the home run for the end of the month Bev. Enough time to get it all done. (hopefully)

  5. Babies growing in flower pots sounds very futuristic! Seriously though, a very cute painting. I like the cream mount as it looks softer but I do see how each colour brings out something quite different. Hxx

    1. LOL … I’d rather have babies growing in the way it was designed to work. (But I fear that they’re reaching a stage in science that we’ll have them growing inside see through plastic type bags soon and that thought distresses me beyond belief.

So glad you like the painting Hannah. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.

    1. Thank you Tom.
I have to admit that I like this one. It gives me the biggest smile when I look at it. So much so that I’ve made it the wallpaper screen on my phone. It tickles the heck out of me when I hear a message and I open up the phone to see that little face.

As for the more ATC’s …. another blogging friend and I are putting together a little something which was originally just for us two … but …. ahhhh.. I can’t tell you yet, ’cause we haven’t quite sorted it out. But I will tell you asap. ~ C. xxx
