A Flowerpot of Flowers for the Teachers Assistant.

I mentioned a couple of days ago that I’d made cards for Little Cobs to take to school for the end of term, to say thank you to his lovely teacher, his teachers Assistant, who helps Little Cobs with any problems he faces – (Little Cobs has Cerebral Palsy, so does encounter some problems).

I posted pictures of the card which I made for his teacher, a couple of days ago (you can find it  —->HERE<—-)

Todays ‘show and tell’  is the card I made for the Teachers Assistant, who is Little Cobs helper.  Daughter No.2 tells me that she’s a bundle of fun and that Little Cobs loves her to pieces.  So … I came up with this card just for her….

1 Flower Pot

 

The flowers are crocheted with a sort of cotton mix wool.  They’re lovely to feel.  The flowerpot was a stamped image, and I painted it with watercolours it to make it look more ‘real’.  The card is quite dimensional, and the flowerpot stands out proud from the card, curved, just like a flowerpot would be.

I tried to capture the depth I managed to get to this card, (by curving the pot),  but couldn’t seem to find the right angle  ….  this photo probably is the best shot out of them all, but even this one isn’t great…

Although you can’t see it in these photo’s, the pinky red heart was given a little dimension too by the addition of Anita’s 3D Clear Gloss – more expensive products which do exactly the same job are available, but quite frankly, I think I’d rather save a couple of pounds and buy this one which I get from ‘The Range’.  The 3D clear Gloss gives the ‘lipstick drawn heart’ (not really lipstick – I printed the heart onto the card) a kind of ‘wet lipstick look’.

I’ve removed Little Cobs real name from the front of the card in these photo’s but the card front reads:  “A Simple Thank You but with a lot of”  ❤  …   then it has his name, and under that it says ‘Age 6’.

And that’s all there was to it! 

It was a total joy to make and so simple too.

  3. I worked as a teaching assistant for a while, it was a bit disheartening how little acknowledgement we got compared to the teachers themselves, this will be so much appreciated, not least because it’s gorgeous

    1. Ohhh, I’m sorry to hear that you got such little recognition for the job you do. I’ve always sent cards to Teaching Assistants, even when my girls were little. They may not have required the help that Little Cobs does, but I knew (via my girls) how fabulous they were to have in the classroom, and how much my girls loved them. So I always thanked them and either bought a small gift or gave them a bouquet to thank them for all they did. Doesn’t cost the earth – just a few pounds, and a heartfelt thank you.

      I thank you for everything you did Isn’t She C You were (no doubt) brilliant to have there in the classroom.

      I did think while I was making it that a card which had paper/card handmade die-cut flowers, but with crocheted leaves, would look so incredible! I can imagine roses, with little leaves tucked behind them … peeping out from the flowers.

      Or a simple line of green crochet, to represent grass.

      Or … a wiggly line of blues (either tonal wool, or two/three colours) to make a river, or even a sea.

      Aw, filled with so many ideas for crochet on cards.

  7. Another sweet, thoughtful and perfect thank you . You know what…I don’t remember having teacher assistants in my schools or my children’s school either. Wonder when it started? My grands do and they are ever so helpful. Classrooms are pretty crowded these days. Small private school teachers need all the help they can get. If little Cob is just getting out….when do they go back. ? The grands start back in a couple of weeks.. To early..to hot.

    1. The school Term Time holiday system here is very different from that of the USA.

      Where you have several small (2 weeks) breaks, here we don’t have many of those, and instead for the summer holiday, the UK have a 6 week holiday time. This kind of adds to the ‘going up a year’ in the school for the children and marks that big jump, and it gives mummies and daddies chance to take holidays in those 6 weeks instead of fighting with work colleagues who might also have children and those mums and dads want that same time off.

      However… I think six weeks is too long. Children get bored quickly and days out visiting places or doing things can be very costly. Even just a visit to the cinema now is EYE WATERINGLY PRICEY!

      Added to that … there is the childcare to think about if both parents work (which Government of my country have been encouraging people to do … then they give them vouchers to help towards childcare, (if the parents qualify), so it ends up making those folks live outside their income, and costing the country rather a grand sum of childcare vouchers for thousands of parents.

      I would like to see a reduction in the length of the summer holidays, and Government(s) encouraging mothers … or fathers – (lets not put ourselves in a place that we can be accused of being sexist! eeek! lol) to become full time carers of their own children and bring them up properly.

      Do you remember what I predicted yesterday?

      I said that your package to me would arrive and I had moved my money from it arriving on Wednesday to now arriving on Thursday.

      GUESS WHAT!

      ….. I was rii -iiiiiiight!!
      The box arrived today! Awww… I’m beside myself with glee
      I ADORE that card, and cannot believe that you’ve sent it to me. Ohh Beverley…. it’s SO precious to me that I wouldn’t get it out of the box to let Mr.C take a gander at it. I (laughing to myself here) told him that he probably had grubby hands so was only allowed to look at it through the box. LOLOLOL.

      But now we get serious… You’ve sent me the INCREDIBLE little box of handmade books which you made and blogged about.

      Yes, you could sell them. Definitely. Exactly how they are. Because they’re truly beautiful and such a wonderment to hold. (LOVE those bookmarks too!)

      But I also have another idea for them that might even add a little ‘saleability’ to them as well. But I’ll email that idea in the next 24 hours.

      Now although I adore the books … you can’t have sent that box of books to me for me to keep FOC … so next time I send you a parcel, I’ll package it back up and send it back to you so you can sell it.
      OR … could I buy it from you do you think? Do you have Paypal? I could pay you via paypal!

      The die cuts … are FABULOUS … and I think I already have a plan for them.

      The handmade card is just too beautiful, and it’s standing proud on my coffee table, right next to the big church candle I have inside a glass storm lantern.

        1. Ohhh my darling Beverly! You are too kind. The handmade books in the incredible little handmade box is truly wonderful. I would willingly pay you for it because I can see how much work has gone into making the whole set.

          As for me being good for your soul … I’m your friend, being your company on the climb of Killimanjaro. I love you to pieces. You’re an incredible woman and I cannot for one minute believe how amazingly well you are keeping on keeping on, on the days when you perhaps don’t even want to drag your body out of bed. And for days like that I give thanks for Babe … for she needs you … and you need her.

          I never gave up hope of the package arriving, as you know. It used to take roughly seven to ten days for parcels to get here (and vice versa) but now it takes two to 3 weeks, and I think it’s just that customs in both our countries are now more involved with everything – even letters. And I guess we should be thankful – for they are keeping us safe.

          And besides … it’s like waiting for Father Christmas! LOL. It keeps me like an excited child, only I’m waiting for the postman. LOL

  9. Good morning/afternoon Cobs
    What a darling way to use up crocheted flowers. I happen to have some and geez, would never have thought to put them on a card! Wonderful idea! I do love the script, is that your own? It’s precious and I’m sure the teachers helper will love it.
    We could be in for some thunder and lightening show but it was supposed to start during the night. So far it has been a dud, which is fine for me as the animals don’t like it at all. The Boston, Stan, and the male Chihuahua Rocky, don’t seem to mind but the cats and the wee Peeky girl (chihuahua) shake like crazy and go hide. Poor wee thing. I love her to death but nothing I do seems to ease her anxiety, even Rescue Remedy. Turning the TV up or the music up works for fireworks sometimes, but not for mother natures party. She has too much base to be able to block it out. It’s a deep in your chest kinda sound isn’t it?
    Anyway, coffee in hand, I must get on with it. Thanks for the lovely project this morning, now I have a good idea of what to do with the wee leftovers. 🙂

      I’m sat here wishing as hard as I can and pushing prayers out to various different Saints asking for the thunder and lightning to give you a BIG MISS.

      I used to have a British Bulldog who was SO scared of fireworks, and thunder and lightning. She used to shake dreadfully and nothing I did made her happy. For years we couldn’t go to a Firework party because the dog was so stressed and her heart raced like billyho. I was so scared that I would lose her due to a storm or fireworks.

      I’m a real old party pooper regarding fireworks. I wish that my country would ban them except from professionally organised displays. They should be taken from all shops and any shop still selling them to the general public should be fined a hefty bloomin’ fine. Likewise any member of the public setting off fireworks should be fined too.
      grump grump grump. lol

      I hope you have some BIG fun with your project.

          Ahh … well Tina Teaspoon was from a time when my daughter was a little girl. She loved (at around the age of 3/4, a programme that came on TV, called Button Moon, and I used to tell her that she was “just like Tina Teaspoon’ – simply because Tina was little, and so was daughter No.2.

          The whole programme was geared towards children in that it was all made from houshold objects. Empty tin cans, empty sauce bottles, old saucepans etc etc.

    I love this card and because crochet is one of my very most favorite things in the world I love it twice as much!! My niece has down syndrome and her paraprofessional at school is marvelous. She and my sister are always in close communication so that my dear niece can have a good day at school.

    1. I’m both saddened and yet at the same time thrilled to hear about your niece. The medical condition she lives with is just that. I hope no one ever makes her, her medical condition. It sounds like she has the perfect companion at school in her paraprofessional and I love that she and your sister have a close bond and can communicate easily in order to ensure that this precious child encounters a good day, each day she’s at school.
