Lunar C ~ an ATC/ACEO – painted for World Watercolour Month

#WorldWatercolorMonth

Can you hear dogs howling?  Are there rappings at your window?  Do you see strange shapes, female like, travelling past the moon with only a broom as transport?  Do you have bats in your belfry?

Throughout history,  the occurrence of the full moon has been linked to all sorts of strange behaviors. It’s said that some police officers believe that a full moon leads to more crimes being committed.

Me personally?  I think it’s all rubbish.  The only thing that happens during a full moon is that I can see better in the dark, and I don’t reckon that’s because I ate all my carrots either!

1
Lunar C.  … an ATC for  #WorldWatercolorMonth  –  lit with the dullest of table lamps – so that it lights the photograph but doesn’t over light it.  It leaves it a little dark and moody.

I was sort of vacant of thought, gazing at the moon through the window and this gave me an idea to paint a [bit of fun] night sky with silhouettes on the ground in ATC size.  So I did.

However not only did I use regular water colours,  I also used a tiny bit of a different type of water-colours, called Gansai Tambi Starry water-colour –  in White Gold.  I used this for the moon and a little on some of the stars,  as I wanted the moon to GLOW.

2
Lunar C.  … an ATC for  #WorldWatercolorMonth  –  This photograph is taken with a bright desk lamp – so it shows the moon being a little brighter than the last photo.

The Gansai Tambi Pearl and Starry colours have mica mixed in with the water colours and can give you a truly lovely glow to parts of your paintings which you want to draw attention to.

3
Lunar C.  … an ATC for  #WorldWatercolorMonth. This photo taken with the same brighter lamp – but I’ve put a mount around the ATC to frame it better.

I’ve been using these types of ‘twinkly’ water colours for a while now….   I found my very first set years and years ago, packaged up as ‘children’s paints’ and I bought them for just £1.49 from a shop here in the UK, called The Works.  You can see a little ATC here  (click and the link will open up in a new tab) on which I first used those mica paints to paint with.

But the paints I used for brightening the moon in this painting was part of a boxed set of 6, made by Kuretake.

I LOVE Kuretake products.  The company was sited not too far from where I used to live, and every year they would have a monster sale and invite crafters to come and buy.  I must have kept that company going for years!  I spent so much money with them, and learnt so many amazing techniques from their fabulous staff, to do with paints and pens.  They are very much a company who I highly recommend.  BUT … although I know you can buy from that well-known TV Craft Channel (Create and Craft), I urge you to shop around before investing your money there, as I’ve bought some Kuretake products for half the price that they’re selling them on C&C, AND –  I’ve got FREE postage on top too!  So do please shop around if you decide to buy any of the Kuretake items.  The company itself is truly brilliant.  Their customer service and the products are perfection.  —> Link to Kuretake website HERE.<—  (You can buy direct from them on that website too – check-out the sales items!)

This last photo was taken with the flash on as it’s the brightest light I had on a dark evening a couple of nights ago.   I so wanted to show you how the light plays with the Gansai Tambi Starry water-colours and makes something so simple become something quite stunning….

Lunar C.  … an ATC for  #WorldWatercolorMonth.

…  and …  what you see in the photograph isn’t the true story.  That moon looks like MAGIC!  So magical that it makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck!

The only thing I would change about this tiny ATC (2.5″x3.5″) is …  that I wish I’d have gently dotted stars into the scene, instead of dragging my fingernail over the bristles of the damp brush to get the ‘splots’.  I totally forgot that I was working small-sized and because of that I should have dotted the stars in individually using a tiny brush or dotter.  tsk tsk.  By the time I’d got to that part, I couldn’t change the dots as it would have spoilt the sky … so I left it as is.  But to be honest .. in real life, the dots aren’t as ‘in your face’ as they appear on the photo’s.  It’s my own fault for being away with the fairies as I was painting.  lol

The next full moon, here in the UK, isn’t until the 7th August 2017 – so make a note and …  don’t forget to howl at the moon!  (Google will be your friend if you want to know when the next full moon is where you live).

Thank you SO much for coming and sharing a coffee with me. It’s so fabulous to spend time with you.  If you fancy a wee chat, then please leave a comment in the comments box below and I promise I’ll reply the very next visit I make to the blog here. (and I come here regularly – so you won’t have to wait long! 😉 )

Before we part …  I need you to know that I receive no incentive, payment or encouragement from Kuretake, or any other company,  when I recommend products to you.  I speak to you as a fellow crafter, with many years experience.  I research and buy all my own supplies – and if money would allow I’d buy even more supplies just so that I could share them with you and share the results I get from using them.

Of course,  if Kuretake,  or any other craft product company, happen to be reading my blog and would like to share some of their products with me so that I can share [honestly]  the results I get from using them, with you – then I’d be more than happy to do that.  (but the chances are very slim that any craft company will be reading my blog so I won’t hold my breath!)  🙂

Have a truly brilliant Saturday.  I hope the weather is just right for you – not too warm that you’re uncomfortable, and not too cold so that you require a hot water bottle for your feet!  May your day end with you looking back over the hours, and smiling a satisfied, contented smile.

Be kind to yourself, . . .  and each other.

Much love ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Stunning! And to think it’s technically in miniature! I love it, and I shan’t forget the date of the next full moon now as it’s my wedding anniversary. I am not a craft company but if I was I would send you things to try out and review 😊

    1. In advance of the date … Happy Anniversary, and for many more years to come too!

I’m thrilled you like the little painting. Bless your beautiful heart for the fabulous comment.

  2. Oh, Super effect with the moon. This is another gorgeous piece Cobs. You are so talented. Personally, I like it when people give products and companies a genuine shout. It can be really helpful and saves time and money. TFS.
Moon wise. Love the idea of luna planting so that you don’t have to water anything. Some people swear by it.
    Lovely post our Cobs.

    1. Lunar planting??? I’ve not heard of that Flo.
I’ve just asked Cobs Snr. and he gave it a moments thinking and said no he hadn’t either. But then … we both live under a rock so it’s no surprise really. lol
I shall go and Google this and find out more. … … … …

      OH MY GOOD GARDEN CABBAGE!
Well blow me down! This is a little mind blowing.
I expected to kind of find out that this was a joke and you were having me on. (Being the giggling girl you are in reality), but no… it’s actually true, and not just true but a HUGE thing with a lot of gardeners and growers! I’m going to have to learn more about it. (I’ve kept the page open on another tab so will have a read).

Thrilled you like the moon and the ATC in general.
Yes, I agree with the truthful shout outs for products and companies.
I’m always a little wary of recommendations where I feel as if someone is contractually obliged to push products – as I can’t always work out if they genuinely do recommend the items, or they just HAVE to sing the praises of them because of some sort of contract or agreement.

Kuretake are brilliant – and what’s more their staff seem genuinely happy working for the company. They’re so incredibly generous with their knowledge too – and not because they HAVE to be – but because they want to share the things they have learnt through using the products themselves.

I have pens which I bought from Kuretake on one of their monster sale days, YEARS ago – got to be at least 9 or 10 years ago – and they’re still going strong today!

Admittedly, I don’t use them every day, and I do store them flat rather than stood up on one end. But when I go to them, they’re still working and still in great shape. (I’ll have to share these pens in a post one day – for they were the forerunners of some of the ‘new trick’ pens which companies are coming out with today. But … Kuretake pens do it more beautifully and with such style!

Again … I bought my pens, full price, direct from Kuretake. They didn’t give me them. So genuine recommendation. But I’ll post about them so that you can see what they can do.

Thanks for the sharing Lunar Planting … I’m going off to learn!

      1. What do you mean giggling girl! LOL! I will have you know I am a very serious person!! 😉
Total agree with you on the recommendations. I got caught out a couple of times. I now ask blogging friends what they think especially if they are using a product a lot.
        Enjoy your research.

  3. Lovely effect, Cobs, and a fabulous painting once again.
It’s the same Full Moon for all of us, which makes things a lot easier for us ‘luna-tics’ to know that we aren’t actually losing the plot when we suddenly start howling for no reason. Take note of the Full Moon, and watch how it affects folk. You’ll be surprised! It affects the tides, you see, and we’re mostly water as well… down at the base level.
Anyhoo, one digresses. Love this ATC, the view, the stars, the scene, the magic, and the overall effect. Howlingly good.

    1. Hello fabulous Tom!
Well … – to be truthful rather than flippant – … I do believe that the Full Moon really does have some affect on certain things, such as the tides, and the gravitational pull etc. And I also know that the moon travels around the earth following an elliptical path, and that’s why the moon sometimes appears to be closer to us than at other times, and when the two things happen at the same time then that’s when we get the ‘Supermoon’ (not a hero costume wearer – btw). lol.

But … I’m not a fully paid up member of believers who are 100% that people go crazy when the moon is full, or that dogs howl, or witches fly, or that psychiatric symptoms get worse, or more murders happen.

I believe that we’re all just that little bit mad. And that we’re all just a little bit Witchety, or Warlocky. And that we can all blow up and have a tantrum sometimes.

And I also believe that people will blame their ‘off moods’ on anything which might sound feasible or ‘convenient’ to whoever it is that they’re talking to.

But what are we going to blame all the other times on?

Oooo… getting deep there! Let’s come up for air….

Thrilled you like the ATC and that you find it ‘Howlingly good’. LOL
(yeah, I saw what you did there Mr.! LOL)

      1. I think today’s Waxing Crescent is bringing me round again, Cobs. (I had to look that up by the way, I’m not up to speed with all the Waxing and Waning phases – although I have learned that a Waxing Moon is heading towards a Full Moon)
Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been saving your posts up, but didn’t realise just how many I’ve saved!

        1. Saving them up is something I tried …. once. It took me a week to catch up, then I was behind on all the recent posts. It was h.e.).).

Don’t fret about catching up verbally Tom. If you’re behind on everyone’s blog, it will take you forever to get around them all. Visit the pages and then click ‘like’ on the ones you like, until you’re up to date. Save yourself the stress, my fabulous blogging friend. (Not to mention time in which you could be relaxing or doing stuff you like).

  4. Oh Cob…..I can’t believe you didn’t know about planting by the moon. Farmers have been doing it for ages (old farmers any way ). I just never can remember when to plant what so can’t say it works but I am pretty sure it does. Also It is statistically proven that full moon night bring a headache to hospitals and police units. The crazies have to come out sometime.
This crafter doesn’t have any Kuretake because they don’t cost little now days. They are on my long wish list which keeps getting longer and longer. I love your night sky. Do keep doing more.
Next full moon here is Aug. 7…oh dear…that is the same time the sky fell last year.Well the night before any way. Also the day school restarts and #3 goes back out to work. He will be on 4 off 4 now. This will take some getting use to.
Oh me…I’m not ready for all this. Now I really am going to photo what I said I was going to photo yesterday. Back later…..with luck.

    1. Hello Beverly 🙂
Kuretake … no, I will admit that they’re more expensive now than they were when I first discovered them, but that’s the same as everything else I guess.

I believe you can buy Kuretake in the US but I’ve looked on the website and they ask you to email say they (the company here in the UK) don’t ship to the US BUT… they say: ” please e-mail customerservices@kuretake.co.uk for more information about ordering our products from the USA.” – so that sounds to me like they do have some supplies available in the US in some stores. (You could also try Amazon and Ebay.)

I’m chuffed to pieces that you like the night sky…. and as for doing more … I’ve done another night view! I just couldn’t resist. And besides … I had my paints there, just sitting looking at me. It would have been rude not to! (lol)

Regarding No.3 son … I suppose that if he loves the job and it pays the right sort of money that he and his little family need, then doing the horrible ‘schedule’ that he does is one of those things that he has to put up with.

Is there a better rota that he could work less time in order to space it out better? If so… could he apply to go onto that work system – so that he can see his family more regularly?

Hope you’ve got your photograph done. I’m desperate to see whatever it is!

  5. What a great picture! I love when we have a full moon as you can see so much better at night! Love it! I have some Kuretake watercolors. I purchased mine several years ago on Amazon at a great price. I haven’t used them very often, as my go to medium seems to be my Copics….someday…hmm. Love seeing all the “little” paintings! 🙂

aww, so glad you like the little painting.
You have some Kuretake Watercolours? Oh you need to get those out and play with them! It’s World Watercolour Month – and you have to join in! Kuretake are too good to sit, all alone, forgotten, and sad!

I urge you to join in with the fun!
      Thrilled you like the ATC’s.

    1. If you buy the big Kuretake Gansai Tambi paints (pictured in my Meadow Flowers post) then you get some of the starry colours at the bottom of the group of pans.

But … I love the Gansai Tambi STARRY pans (in a box all by themselves) for the specialness and effect that they can give to some paintings.

Buy direct from Kuretake Hannah. Their service is second to none and they’re really quick with their posting and delivery.
You also get a loyalty card if you register your email with them, which gives you 10% off every purchase you make with them.

I truthfully, whole heartedly, highly recommend this fabulous company.

        1. I KNEW you’d like it if you had a gander round. I wish you could have experienced one of their ‘sale’ days (not sure if they do them now, sadly) – because I got to meet the staff, and every single one of them knew everything there was to know about the products and would take (heaps) of time explaining them, demonstrating them, and then even encouraging you to have a go yourself so that you know exactly how to use them before you buy and take them home.

I could go on and on about this fabulous company but I’d just bore you to tears.
It takes a LOT for me to HIGHLY RECOMMEND a company to anyone as I fear that they might have a bad day and get rubbish treatment … but Kuretake have, as far as my experience is concerned, never given me anything but excellent service. Truly fabulous company.
