Just Watching the Water! ~ an ATC/ACEO – painted for World Watercolour Month

#WorldWatercolorMonth

One of my most favourite pastimes is to drive to a particular car park in Dorset, where I can park right by the edge of the sea.  It’s just behind a low wall.  If I get out of my car and walk a few feet to the wall then it’s down a few steps and I’m on the beach.  When the tide comes in it comes right up to the wall.  Only ever coming over the top of the wall when there is a particularly bad storm.

I don’t care what the weather is … it can be full sunshine or persisting down with rain …  I’m happy to sit with the window down a little so that I can hear and smell the sea, and just listen.  I don’t need to talk and I don’t need a radio to entertain me.  The most noise I need is the sea, doing what the sea does naturally.  I love to watch the water.  To be at peace and at one with that magnificent force of nature that the sea is.

SOooo many brain cobwebs can be blown away by a visit to the sea.  I can sit there for quite some time before I eventually say goodbye to it and start my car up to drive home.  But …  as I leave I have always found that I have this sense of inner peace and the knowledge that whatever happens, everything is alright with my world.

I visited the sea yesterday . . .

I’d been grocery shopping.  NOT my favourite thing to do.  All that time choosing, shopping popping things in the basket.  Then taking it out of the basket, putting it onto the conveyor belt.  Then putting it in a shopping bag, then bringing it home, then unpacking it … and for what?  It all gets eaten and I have to do it all over again!  Dogs Sake!  It’s about time they banned shopping and just chose healthy stuff for us to eat with recipes on cards, (so that we knew what we were supposed to make with the purple sprouting Gourd-like Carbeet Skins) and just charged us a fee for the pleasure.

Actually … better still… let’s all just stop eating.  Yes!  They could invent something that would replace eating and keep us all slim and shapely so that we all look exactly the same on the beach!  PERFECT IDEA!

But anyway (sigh… I do seem to keep wandering off the subject today)  … we’re here to look at a little  painting.

Water Watching 1
#WorldWatercolorMonth

A little ATC which measures 2.5inches by 3.5inches, painted with watercolours on 140lb  Watercolour paper.

It’s not a painting of an area where I live, but just an idea of a fabulous place to perhaps live and see the view of from your kitchen window.  Cooo … wouldn’t that be a great place to live?  Perhaps an old cottage built from stone.  With deep, thick walls so that the windows could all have window seats built into them.  Gingham curtains.  Thick Pine table tops, and ….  oh heck!  I’ve gone off on one now!  tsk tsk.

Back to the topic Cobs…

I really loved painting this little ATC for World Watercolour Month Challenge.  It just seemed to paint itself.

And that … is all there was to it!

Thank you so much for sharing some time with me.  I love to see you.  I did ask this last week, and I’m going to ask again …  Are you joining in with the World Watercolour Month?  If you are and I don’t know about it, please give me a bit of a poke with the end of your pen and show me where I should go and see your wondrous creations.  I’d SO enjoy seeing what you’ve painted – or coloured with watercolour pencils.

Thank you for coming.  Love seeing you.  Have a truly blessed day!

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Awww thank you Barbara.
Perhaps, if you’re close enough, you could maybe take a drive to your nearest seaside this weekend and maybe spend the day just enjoying the water.
Thank you so much for coming, my lovely blogging friend.

  1. I always enjoy reading your take on stuff and I love your thoughts on grocery shopping! Chicken Grandad hates purchasing groceries….because, like you, he feels you just eat it and then send it on through.
Your watercolor is gorgeous! I love water and love to be anyplace by it! I think we must be sisters from another mother!

    1. Hello Chicken.
I think we are. Sister from another mother. 😀

I’m glad to hear that Chicken Grandad feels the same way about Grocery Shopping. It’s a real pain in the you know what. I spend far too much time and money in those stores, and it’s all such a waste of time because you get it home and before you know it, you’ve got to go back again because everything you bought has been eaten! It’s a never ending task! pffft! :/

Thrilled to little bits and pieces that you like the watercolour Chicken. Seriously.
I wish you’d give this little challenge a go, because I have this funny feeling in my soul that you’d knock us all out of the water with your natural talents and abilities.
I just KNOW that you’d be brilliant. I KNOW it.

Thank you so much for coming, and for the lovely comment. It’s brilliant chatting with you.
Sending squidges to you and Chicken Grandad. love ~ Cobs. x

        1. It’s not what you paint, or how you paint. It’s just doing it … then keeping doing it until you stop worrying and begin to just bally enjoy yourself. I absolutely know you have it in you to paint. I KNOW you do. Just have a go. Let your hair down and just paint. Who the heck cares what you paint or how it looks. It’s doing it which is the thing. (it’s a bit like praying. God doesn’t mind how you do it and how your say it … but He simply loves to hear from His daughter (or son) now and again. None of us pray in the same way … and yet, He’s so happy to hear from us.

Go on … paint a daisy. Just that. Nothing more. Just a daisy.

  2. I love your little paintings. To me, they are magical. I’m flabbergasted that you could say it almost painted itself. Nothing like that ever happens in MY house!!! I’m not going to be envious. No, I’m not. I’m going to admire your talent and enjoy your creations.

    1. Ohhhhh Anne, bless your beautiful heart. I’ve sat here chuckling away so much at your comment that I had to explain to Mr. Cobs what had tickled me so much.

Firstly .. I’m totally over-joyed that you like the little paintings.
And … it’s kind of true. I thought of this one and once I’d chosen the paints and squeezed out a little of each paint onto my pallette, the painting was done in minutes. Waiting for paints to dry takes longer than painting the picture itself.

You really could do this Anne. I KNOW you could. Gosh, I wish I lived close to you, so that you could just sit and watch how easy it is. You’d painting within minutes of sitting down. I know you would.

Thank you so much for coming for a visit, and for the beautiful comment. I love chatting with you Anne. You have an inner child which I can ‘feel’, and I have a feeling that she’s a giggler when she finds something that tickles her. 😀
You are a total joy to chat with.

      1. I wish I lived close enough to drop by and watch you paint. When I was a girl, I’d wander into the laundry room where my mom was ironing. I’d chat with her for a bit and fall silent, mesmerized by the movements of her hands. That’s what it would be like to watch you paint. I would love every minute.

        1. I would dearly love to sit you on a chair, next to me, and give you a paint brush and just tell you to not look at what you’re doing, just to copy what I did. You would then, after about 10 minutes realise how easy it is to just paint.

People think it’s so difficult … but Anne it’s really not. Aw poppet, I love you so dearly and if I could I’d be there tomorrow with my paints and brushes. My heart longs to be able to do this.

I know exactly what you mean about the ironing. I would do the same with my Grandma. I think to be honest, that’s where I learned how to iron. 😀
At the time, to little me, she was just my Grandma, and I loved her. But now, with age has come the realisation that her heart must have been made of pure gold. She was an incredible woman.

          Just as you are Anne.

  3. I agree with you on the benefits of sea wat hing Cobs. I would love that house with a view from my kitchen window and window seats too. However I am happy with the short stroll I need to take to see the sea. Your painting is beautiful and sweet and uplifting. X

    1. Thank you Daisies, I’m so happy that you liked this little painting.

I can see you like to ‘sea watch’ too, so know that you ‘get it’.

I have a secret dream of one day living in a house which is virtually on the beach, so that I can fling open the windows and doors and hear the conversation the sea is having with the world.

But… like you I’m happy with how close I live to the sea right now, and never complain, for I am very aware of how blessed I truly am.

Thank you so much for coming Daisies, and for the fabulous comment.

  4. I love that photo, and you are so right about the sea – it cleanses the soul and the brain. I am so lucky to live near the ocean, too.

And the cottage you describe sounds like heaven to me!

    1. Aw Salpal, I’m thrilled that you like the little painting, but even more over-joyed that you too live near the ocean and ‘get it’. You’re spot on… it really does cleansethe soul, brain and the mind. It just leaves me so very much at peace within my body. My soul is rested. My worries aren’t so big and seem more managable after a while just sat watching the sea have it’s conversation with the universe.
I simply Turn up. Tune in and the thinking part of my brain Drops Out.
(not literally .. but you know what I mean).
It’s so lovely to see you Salpal. Thank you for coming and for your fabulous comment. It gave me chance to have a good ol’ chat.

I’m with you on ‘relax and finally breathe’. The ocean seems to do that. It’s a magical place which casts a spell.

  5. I think that is my favorite so far. I just love the sailboat and the ocean. There is something about the ocean thats calming. I think thats probably why I chose it as the theme for my home. I am drawn to it. Beautiful painting. As for shopping I have one word for that…. BLEH

    1. LOL… BLEH indeed! Total agreement here!

The ocean really does have that magical ability doesn’t it. I love it and am so blessed to live just a few moments away from it.

  6. I love this! I, too, love to just sit by the sea, ocean, gulf, any big body of water and just watch the waves and listen to the sounds. I live about 900 miles to the closest one, so I only get there once a year, but what a wonderful week of nothing! I never want to leave and come home! Some day! Yep, some day I’m just going to stay! Great picture! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for coming Nancee.
I’m not sure what I’d do now without having the sea/ocean so close to me. Somehow it just seems to re-vitalise me. It removes all the little niggles and leaves me feeling so calm and so chilled. Love it.

900 miles??? Oh. My. Goodness! I can see why you only get to visit it once a year.

Thrilled you like the little painting. I think this one is possibly my favourite.

    1. Hello Samantha. 😀
Maybe you could have a day at the seaside Samantha… or a weekend? Just to blow away the cobwebs of the mind and feel ‘renewed’ in body, mind and spirit.

Thilled you like this little ATC.
Thank you so much for coming. I love to see you here. Bless you.

  8. Dearest Cobs,
I believe I was a mermaid in a previous life. I’ve always lived a short car ride away from the ocean and dream of having a little cottage like the one you described!! That would be marvelous!
Sending you the saltiest of bright blessings!!

    1. I too think you were a Mermaid at some point – for you give off mermaid vibes. (that’s not a smell by the way .. more a feeling. lol)

Perhaps your cottage could be a walk away from mine. We could meet at the hour the sun is going down, for I think that’s when, if you got your legs wet with sea water, that you’d again ‘borrow’ your tail back for just a little while.
