I wanted to send a card to a fellow blogger – Berverly of More Ink Please – not for anything in particular, but ‘just because’. I couldn’t share the card until she’d received it as it would have spoiled the surprise. But, I got an email from her at the end of last week telling me that the parcel of ‘Happy Mail’ had arrived, so I can now post details of the card here on the blog.
Because I live by the sea I wanted to send her a card which made her think of the ‘Seaside’, and that’s why the card itself is all about the seaside.
It has a little Tibetan silver bicycle leaning up against the Beach Huts.
And someone is flying a kite …. which has a tail of ribbons! . . .
Two smaller pictures featuring Beach Huts stand proud of the card itself, by being mounted on foam tape.
The fun, and colour, continue inside with a teeny bit of zentangling and a little bow.
The Bunting and sentiment (‘With Love and Best Wishes’) were added to the front, and a silver metal airplane – ‘flying above’ – was fixed to the card, in the skyline.
Finally a little brassy coloured (metal) vintage style post card finished off the front.
And that’s all there was to it!
For those of you who don’t know the song which is the title of this post, I’ve been and collected a YouTube video… but if you know the song by heart, there’s nothing to stop you clicking and enjoying. The song was written in 1907, and this version was sung in 1909 by a music hall singer called Mark Sheridan.
We have beach huts here where I live, but they’re not quite as fabulous as the ones on the card. . . .
However … a couple of years or so ago a designer (who some of you may have heard of) did a Random Act of Kindness – but she called it: a Random Act of Kidston . . .
… and she covered some Beach Huts in her fabric designs, – she made matching deck chairs, and put matching bits and bobs in the Beach huts. It caused quite an impact. People were coming from miles away to see them. This following hut is my personal favourite…
It’s a typical Cath Kidston design and so me. I love it.
But … if wishes came true …. I think I’d want a Beach Hut like one of the ones on the card I made for Beverly. There’s something so friendly and smiley about them.

P.S. . . . Dear Lord … hello, it’s me again. Ummm.. it’s about the weather. It’s hot. Very hot. VERY, VERY HOT indeed. It’s causing me some problems. One of which is that I appear to be melting. I know I can’t be sweating … because my mom taught me that ladies don’t sweat. According to my mother, ladies ‘glow’. Well … I’m really glowing here. REALLY glowing. So … I’m wondering … could you please turn the heating down a little bit? A little biggish bit? Not just for me but also for my plants, and for my three fur babies. Alf Capone, Maisie Dotes and My Little Fat Bitch aren’t coping well with this level of hot. I’ve just taken a look around my living room and down the hallway …. and it looks like a murder scene. All my four-legged companions are ‘as if’ dead. Now if I’m hot and I’ve only got shorts and a t.shirt on, then these four-legged babies must be SO uncomfortable because they’re all wearing fur coats!

How nice to receive a random happy mail. The beach huts are amazing. They were pretty with their monochromatic hues but the fabric give them life. It’s almost like little doll houses. Although your huts are by far the best, so cute. Thanks for sharing your talent.

But because of it all being so rare to me I know exactly how wonderful it is to hold something in my hand that says someone made an effort..
I know how much it totally blows me away to receive a handmade, made just for ME! It’s such a magical wonderment to me,
Over the years I’ve been crafting I’ve received a few handmade cards, and I still have every single one of them. I keep them, because they mean such a lot to me. They show me someone cared enough to want to make ‘me’ something. I look at them often, and each time I do it brings a lump to my throat, and I give thanks for each person who made me feel so loved.
I also have some handmade hat pins, which Hannah from The Artisan Duck sent to me.. and I know I should use them, but I just can’t. I love them too much.

I’m very sorry I can’t do anything about the heat, however, a little hint for your fur family: Cold damp cloth, put it in the freezer if you like so it’s really refreshing, and just wipe the inside of their ears (the naked non-furry sticky up or flappy bit, not right inside ) and the underneath of their paws. A quick fix of coolness, also spray bottles, filled with cool water. You can give them a quick spritz every now and then, if they’ll let you.

I just wanted to tell you that … we tried the damp face cloth, put in the freezer for a while.
BUT …
… whereas you suggested it for the four legged members of my family .. . .
We tried it on ourselves – and – OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!
IT’S AMAZING! MORE than amazing!
I held it for about fifteen seconds on the back of my neck …… HEAVEN! I put it on the top of my head and sort of moulded it to the shape… INCREDIBLE. I put it over my face…. SIGH!!!

And .. I promise I shall try it on the dog, for I think she won’t freak out like the cats would. She’s more … “Oh, it’s my mom, and she’s doing something freaky again, but I’ll let her get on with it because it makes her happy” LOL.

And I so enjoyed receiving. Your talent for putting every little thing in just the right place just amazes me. Perfection! I’m not a beach person because of the heat but do enjoy a visit in the cooler autumn or even a sand stroll on a winter evening. Love the sound of surf at night with maybe a bonfire for a little warm up and a million stars above. Love to you Lady Cob.

I love the beach … but I don’t like the heat, so we don’t go on hot hot hot days. I’m quite happy to visit it when it’s drizzly or cooler weather. Autumn and Spring sort of time.
I love the sound of the surf at night too … I’ll let you into a secret which we’ll keep between the two of us … I have a sound machine hanging on the wall next to the bed, and you can choose from 6 (I think) noises: Rain, Jungle, Ocean, and others. … and every night I turn it on and as I’m falling asleep I hear the sounds of the ocean. It lulls me to sleep … and after an hour it turns itself off. Fabulous.
What would make it perfect was a glass panel in the ceiling, so that I could gaze at those stars. Ohhhh… perfection! It’s making me feel all sleepy now. lol 😴 🌙

Well I’m obviously not working with my one brain cell today because I can’t find that on your blog.
I tried the search bar and put in Houston, then tried the full Houston we have a problem … but nothing. I’m obviously doing something wrong because I just haven’t found a blog post called Houston ….. etc. at all. I’ve even scrolled down your blog and gone back around 18 months (ish) and couldn’t see it. (The page did begin to jump around though at one point so maybe it was there and I missed it in a jump),
Could you tell me what month (and year) I can find it in… then I can go straight to the month (and year) and go through that months posts to find it.

Phew ….I didn’t think I was going to get there …. but we did it between us. See … Two brain cells work so much better than one. (’cause my one is totally rubbish!)
Ok… I’ve read it and they’re great answers.
Instructions to get the award …
Find the blue sky award over on the right hand bar —–> over there on my blog.
1. Hover over the picture of the
2. Right click on on your mouse and click to ‘Save’ the image. Save it somewhere you’ll remember it is though!
3. Load that photograph onto your ‘Media’ section on your blog.
4. Then go to your media section and click on the image you’ve loaded. It should open up in a new window, and from there you can get the location address of the picture. BUT ,,, if it doesn’t open up in a new window, click on the image in your media folder here on the blog and then click to ‘Edit’ it.
You’re not going to edit it … but what you are going to do is then find the location address for that picture – it should be in a little box – then copy that address.
5. Click on ‘My Site’ on your blog – you’ll find it up in the top left hand corner.
6. When that opens up – scroll down to WP Admin – which should be at the bottom of that new window box. Click on it.
7. It will open up a new window. Over to the left of that window will be a section filled with different parts of the admin part of your blog. Look for: ‘Appearance’ … and hover your mouse over it.
8. Another little window will open. Move your cursor (mouse) onto the little window and find ‘Widgets’. Click on that!
9. OK.. now you’ll think it’s scarey. DON’T PANIC! The rest from here is simple.
10. Look down the left hand side of the page and find ‘Image’ and click on it.
11. You might feel like you’re going to scroll right off the planet. You won’t. DON’T PANIC.
12. When you find it, click on it. Another window will open. It will ask you what sidebar you want your image in. You need to click ‘Sidebar 1’ for your blog.
13. Then look down the list and find ‘ADD WIDGET’. CLICK THAT!
14. The page will change to your widgets page. You are only concerned with the stuff on the right of that page.
15. Scroll to the bottom and find that IMAGE widget which you’ve just added to that section. Click on it. It will open up. OR … it might already be open for you!
It will say … from the top…
WIDGET TITLE
IMAGE URL
and then a pile of other things.
You’re only interested in that ‘Image URL’
Click on the box so that your cursor is now in the bar and ready to type…. then Right Click on your mouse, and when the new little box opens up, click PASTE.
The address of your image for your award should now be in your box.
NEARLY FINISHED … but not quite.
Scroll down a little way and find ‘SAVE’ in a coloured box (mines a pale brown box, don’t know what colour yours is … but it will be there)
Click SAVE.
THEN … finally … keep that window open, but open another window and load your blog into that window.
If you scroll down your blog home page in that new window … your award should be showing up loud and proud.
If it isn’t… check that you’ve loaded the image address into the right bar. then ‘save’ again.
Go to the open home page again, and refresh the page (re-load it) It should, be there now.

The heat … Oh. My. Goodness!!! It’s too much. Really too too much. I’m sat here right now, with a ceiling fan on, a little desk fan (about 14″ fan size), and a big stand up fan in the other room, but pointing into this room (it’s too noisy so it’s banned from the room itself) … and I’m STILL melting. (Or glowing – to please my mother, God rest her soul)
You’re right. We do seem to have skipped straight past spring and jumped feet first into the middle of Summer. There was no slow growing of the warmer weather. It was just wack that heat right up and watch ’em fry!

The Heat … Well, the weatherman confidently predicted that it would be hotter today. And he did this with a big smile on his face.
I’ve decided that I don’t like the weatherman, and am of the belief that he’s some sort of Warlock who practises Weather Sorcery. It’s HE who is making this HEAT happen. I think he should be vanquished to another land. Possibly on Jupiter, where he won’t be able to continue his spellcasting upon Earth.

What a lovely card Cobs. I have never used a beach house, they don’t have them here. Shame really. So do you rent them or do you just have the use of them for as long as you are at the beach? What about the homeless people, do they use them? That would be an issue here for sure. I think they are such a great idea, you can change, eat and get out of the sun. They are so cute.
We are not nearly as hot as you guys have been there across the pond. I feel your pain. I too ,can’t and don’t like to do heat. I do enjoy seeing the sun but I live for the shade when it get too hot.
My mobile home gets so hot in the evenings, some nights it was like 92 in here. Crazy hot! I can handle 22C outside, then it is okay inside and you can get to sleep. That is a real issue, getting to sleep!
The animals are trying to just find a cool place to flop on the floor. No beds or blankets for them in the heat and I can relate to the scene of dead bodies. lol I have a Boston terrier that is 13 and I do hope he will lay in front of the fan this year to help him stay cooler. The two Chihuahua siblings seem to do alright but they go under the bed where it is cooler. The cats, they just find a spot under the bushes around the yard. I have water bowls everywhere around the yard and house. I do hope we don’t get too hot this summer, I really do.
Anyway Cobs, it will ease up, just have a bucket with cold water that you can put your feet in OR if you have a small kiddie pool, sit in it, yes you can look funny but it will cool you off. Spritzer bottle and you spray towards a fan to get that cool rain effect. Works really well. I try anything to stay cool.

Ah the Beach Huts …
Well, they are (mostly) all privately owned. Some are rented out by the owners, and they command quite a high price to rent, ranging from around £35 per day for the cheapest to … well the sky’s the limit for the more expensive ones.
Some of them are VERY luxurious, and have running water, beds, toilet facilities, a small kitchen to make food in… and if they have the permissions granted, then you can sleep in them over-night. But only for a certain amount of days. You are not allowed to live in them all year round or anything like that.
Buying a beach hut is quite a big thing here. They rarely come up for sale, but when then do .. Oh. My.Goodness the prices they can sell for are sometimes heart stopping amounts!
Some small ones – no bigger than a small shed, have sold for £25,000. (twenty five thousand pounds – that’s $31,664. US Dollars)
I think the most expensive beach hut here where I live, sold this year for a staggering … £275,000. (Two hundred and seventy five thousand pounds. That’s $348,243.00 US Dollars!!!)
It was in all the newspapers here … hang on and I’ll see if I can find a link for you …

Dorset is one of those places that is treasured as a lovely place to live here in the UK. And because of that, it pushes the prices up. We have here something called Sandbanks… which, despite being a beautiful sandy beach, is a place where the rich buy/build their homes.
I’ve been along the main road where some of the properties are located, and boy oh boy are some of them breath-taking! (Although there are some very modern new builds which make me ask ‘What the divil where they thinking?’. lol)

So none of those places have running water, no way would I spend that kind of money on a place with no biffy! My bff used to live in Dorset as a child. They came to Canada when she was about 8. My neighbour, Gillian, lived close to that area on a farm with her parents till the age of 12. Gillian misses England, Lesley does not.
Those beach huts would make great tiny homes for some people but not without water and toilet. It’s all the rage now uh, those tiny homes. Now those can get sooooo lovely and within a decent price too. If I had the money, I would go tiny, but then you need the place to plunk the place down to live. There are so many rules and regulations too, and some places won’t even let you live in a tiny home. Govenments say they are too small. Heck please come one, you only really need a place to lay your head, cook and bathe. I think I would about 350 square to be comfortable and would not be able to do a loft for sleeping, it would have to be a “rancher” style. I am a fan of that off the grid living but it would have to be comfortable as well. My dogs, my knitting and a few other crafting things, music and good food. Aww, my kind of place, oh and it would have to have a fireplace, that is a must, a fireplace of some sort, to help keep warm. 🙂

Oh what a great card! I love those beach huts! Are they all along the beach there? I don’t think they are allowed here, at least I have never seen any! The one you love is so adorable!!! I LOVE the beach! Unfortunately, we live about 800 miles from the closest beach (other than a lake, and that doesn’t count in my book!) We go every October and spend a wonderful week right on the beach! I can’t wait….June has been a hot month here, in the 90’s for the past week. A great pool week! It has cooled off a little, in the 80’s now, but it will get hot again. July and August seem to be even hotter! The humidity is what gets me. Being in the middle of “corn country”, the humidity gets quite bad, especially when it is hot. We will have heat indexes (“feels like temperatures”) in the 100’s. On those weekend days, I just get in the pool and stay there! I would much rather have the heat than the cold! We do get extreme cold temperatures too! Yuck! I just love that card! Makes me want to hurry the calendar up…come on October! 🙂 Have a good week! 🙂

No, not all along the beaches, and not on every beach either. We have some fabulous beaches here …. and some which a lot of visitors don’t know about … there are no beach huts on those.
We are having temperaturs of mid 90’s at the moment, and it’s going to be hotter tomorrow …. and getting hotter towards and including the weekend apparently.
I know that the USA cope better with the hot heats because most homes there have air conditioning (not all.. but a lot). Here in the UK very few homes have air conditioners so people can’t escape the horridness of the heat. I read in a newspaper (on-line) this morning that two dogs died in the heat yesterday. I really worry about our pets in this weather. We have an air coolant which we’ve had for about 7 years, and I give thanks for that each summer, as it allows our pets to feel more comfortable. But I especially worry about my dog. She’s getting old in years, and when we had to have her spayed the vet warned us that she might put on weight. She did. Hence the reason I lovingly call her ‘my little fat bitch’. It’s not done in a nasty way. It’s all said with a huge amount of love and humour.
We’ve got her on a diet, but she’s not losing very much at the moment. She walks on her lead very well … but not in this hot weather. It’s too much for her.
Your pool sounds just the thing I need right now. Sadly my garden in this cottage isn’t big enough for that type of pool. Ah, but I’ll dream!

Oh my, no air conditioning???? Wow! Then you must be very hot! I remember when I was growing up and visiting my grandparents in St Louis, they didn’t have air conditioning…and it was hot! Stay cool and keep those pets cool as best you can! When we had our Jiffy, we kept him inside during the heat. He loved laying on the couch in the air conditioning. We also had a fan in the living room where he sat and we still call it “Jiffy’s Fan”. 🙂

In the UK there have never been temperatures like the ones we are experiencing now, so there has really never been the need to have air conditioners en masse.
Obviously a few homes have them – but those are ones which have been designed and built to the specifications of owners who are of the more moneyed folks, so no expense is spared.
I loved reading about Jiffy. … but am wondering what sort of animal Jiffy was. I’m thinking perhaps a Rabbit? But could have been a small goat?
‘Jiffy’s Fan’ … I can relate … we still call things ‘Harry’s bed’ or Harry’s dish’, ‘Harry’s Blanket’. My fabulous scruffy haired little Jack Russell dog passed over with a heart attack 4 years ago, aged 15 years old. Although ‘gone’ from sight, he lives on very strongly in our hearts.
Fabulous to hear about your Jiffy. He was obviously very much loved in your house.

Our Jiffy was a Jack Russell. He was much loved, and sorely missed. He was my “buddy”. He was not your typical Jack Russell. He was very calm and such a companion. He was only 13 when we had to put him to sleep. He developed kidney problems. We also had a cat and they were such buddies. When Patches passed away he continued to look for her all over the house. I think he missed her a lot. We probably won’t get another pet. There would be no other that could ever replace Jiff.

Ohhh… we are a match. A Jack Russell each.
I still have one Jack Russell – a little chubby bunny called Mabel – who’s incredibly special, and .. has a sixth sense … or something. Something I can’t describe and I’m sure people think I’m mad when I say it but … she knows when something is wrong with another animal, and she won’t leave it’s side until we pick her up and remove her.
She told me something was wrong with a rabbit we had some years ago, and she was right. The rabbit was very poorly, happened overnight, and she had to be put to sleep.
She told us when our one remaining Guinea Pig was dying, and she was right. I scooped him out of his pen, and held him, talking to him and stroking him gently, and he died later that day.
But the greatest surprise was when Harry had his heart attack.
They were both in the conservatory together, and suddenly, Harry was on the floor, and Mabel was kind of ‘jumping’/bunny hopping, on his chest. She KNEW what was going on, and was trying to get Harry ‘working’ again. Harry passed away in my arms.
She has this sixth sense – but she totally freaked me out about 6 months ago when she kept sniffing a freckle on my leg. Same place every single time. She’d put her nose against my leg and wouldn’t take it off until we encouraged her to. Then she’d plonk her bottom down and just sit there looking at me.
After a week she stopped doing it. But every now and again I’ll point to it and see if she makes any move towards it … she doesn’t … so I’m kinda happy about that.
I think that anyone who has a dog who they love as much as you loved Jiffy, will forever have a dog shaped hole in their heart that only a dog can fill.
I found, when I lost my wonderful British Bulldog many years ago, that I said I wouldn’t ever have another dog after her. However Harry came along and I fell in love with him, despite trying not to.
For me, I realised that I have to have a dog in my life. BUT … it has to be the right dog. It has to be a dog who finds a way to snuggle into my heart and fill that hole. I won’t ever take on just any dog. There has to be a connection of hearts.
Don’t say never Nancee …. for there might just be a connection waiting for you one day.

The beach huts … some of them take my breath away with their beauty. But I’d love any one of them (pretty much) to store chairs, beach toys and general stuff we like to take to the beach.

I loved this card when I saw it the other day, Cobs (apologies for only replying now… I do get there in the end!)
I like the colours, the theme, the lighthouse, the bunting and the all over Summery feel! I’ve not been too keen on the all over Summery feel we’ve had this past week, but give it to me on a card and it’s fabulous. And those real decorated huts looked really good!

And yes … the decorated Beach Huts are amazing aren’t they. (I have this longing to do the shed in the back garden like that – in Cath Kidston fabric …. but the cost would be astronomical! So I’ve painted the shed a fabulous Martha Stewart Blue … and I’m going to make curtains and some wooden bunting for it (to put on the outside) just to make it cottagey and (don’t hate me) … girly. lol
No, like you I’ve not been over impressed with our weather this week. To be honest, I’m getting a bit grumpy about it. I feel so fed up with it now, and my four legged friends can’t cope. My cottage looks like a murder scene again this evening. They throw themselves on the floor and for all intents and purposes, they look dead. Especially Alf Capone. He has such thick black fur that I can’t see him breathing and it gives me a right old panic attack!

Hello Cobs!! I absolutely love your By the Seaside card…very pretty and fun and furthermore…I want to be sitting in one of those huts! I have never seen huts at the beach…I will look when we go to Port Aransas. If there have been huts there or in Galveston for 40 years or so and I did not see them…I will definitely NOT admit it! Anyway…Port Aransas is north of Corpus Christi…in Texas…on the Gulf of Mexico. And that is south of exactly where the current Tropical Storm is located! We will wait for Port Aransas a few weeks or maybe until September!
I had no idea that the weather was really hot in England this week! Oh my…the heat would be downright horrible without air conditioning! It has just been in the nineties here…I think that if it is 94 degrees…that a cold front has rolled in! The 100 degree days are no doubt not to far away!

The weather … oh my goodness! It’s been unbearable this week. But … (whispering here) … there is a cool breeze blowing today and the sun isn’t quite as strong … so we are enjoying being able to breath air which is fresher, and that we don’t feel like we’re trying to breathe through a thick, wet blanket. The air is cleaner.

I agree what a lovely smiley colourful card. The little kite and bike just make it! Love the Cath Kitson makeovers but also loved all the rainbow colours of the huts too. I do feel for your fur babies, my little lad didn’t know what to do with himself either, but at least I can spray a bit of water on him when he’s in the garden. At first he thought I was assaulting him with the water, well that’s what his look was saying anyway! That, ‘How Very Very Dare You!’ look, but then he started who think about it and sort of said ‘Ok this could be fun’, but then his chief arch enemy from next door appeared and that was that! Hugs x

I'm thrilled from the top of my wobbly head to my wriggly toes that you had a bit of fun and laughs here today.
I chat with God alllllll day long, and I normally begin with: “Hello God, it’s me again!” for two reasons. I hate to think I might take Him by surprise one day and make Him jump. I don’t want Him spilling his cup of afternoon tea, after all! And secondly: the ‘it’s me again’ … is kind of said in an apologetic way – sort of ‘sorry about this, but I’m back again’ type of thing.
For the whole of my life I’ve chatted with God all the time.
It began in childhood. I couldn’t see why I could only have a chat with Him when I was in church, or when it was time to say my prayers. I knew He was with me all the time, so I figured that since He was there … why not chat with Him!
And … I still do it now! I’m quite sure that there are days when He’d love to say ‘not now poppet’ but He never does 😀
“And that’s all there was to it!” LOL. I’m not really sure where I got that from … but again, I seemed to be born saying it. lol.
