Friday Factoids

While the  ‘Things I’ve Learned This Week’ post is off on its Summer Holibobs,  I thought we could do something different on a Friday.

So … in this new ‘Summer Season’ of Friday posts, I thought we could do perhaps something different every week, but still just as enjoyable as the ‘Things I’ve Learned This Week’ posts.

So this week …  we’re going to cover:

FACTOIDS  for a FRIDAY in June

Before we move forward…  for anyone who may not have met that word (Factoids) before:

Factoids  =  a brief or trivial item of news or information.

So … now you’re edumacation is complete and you know what a factoid is…  here for your entertainment are a few Friday Factoids!

Do you know the names of the three wise monkeys?
They are: Mizaru (See no evil),
Mikazaru (Hear no evil),
and Mazaru (Speak no evil).

Three wise

The first city in the world to have a population of more than one million  was London.

The reason firehouses have circular stairways is from the days of yore when the engines were pulled by horses.  The horses were stabled on the ground floor and figured out how to walk up straight staircases.

Lightning strikes men about seven times more often than it does women.

The Earth’s continents all start and end with the same letter.

The word “lethologica” describes the state of not being able to remember the word you want.

Lethologica

A crocodile cannot stick its tongue out.

The word enchant comes from the Latin ‘incantare’, meaning to sing or chant magical words or sounds.

The Kiwi,  national bird of New Zealand,  can’t fly, lives in a hole in the ground, is almost blind and lays only one egg each year. Yet it has survived for 70 million years.

Kiwi

Redheads require more anesthesia to ‘go under’ than other hair colours do.  (Yes, it’s true.  I checked it out.  Apparently Redheads need approximately 20 percent more anesthesia).

The Bible,  the world’s best-selling book,  is also the world’s most shoplifted book.

The length from your wrist to your elbow is the same as the length of your foot.

There are four types of marriage:

  1. Monogamy is one wife, one husband.
  2. Polygyny is one husband, several wives.
  3. Polyandry is one wife, several husbands.
  4. Group marriage is by far the rarest and has never been the prevailing form of marriage in any known society.

And finally . . .

Did you know:-
That spotted bananas are sweeter, with a sugar content of more than 20%, compared with 3% in a green banana…. and the riper a banana gets, the sweeter it gets… the sugar content increases as it ripens.

And…
Carrots have zero fat content.

And not only that, but….
Watermelons are 97% water;   lettuce 97% water;   tomatoes 95% water;   carrots 90% water;   and bread 30% water.

I know a lot of  ‘carp’, don’t I.  lol.

Wishing you a fabulous Friday.  Thank you so much for coming and having a Friday coffee with me.

May you take your smile with you wherever you go today.  And wherever you may go…  may your God go with you.

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Well…I learned something new on the Friday Factoids issue! I had no idea about the redhead situation with anesthesia! How? Why? Just weird, I think! I am not a redhead and I am glad…each time that I have had anesthesia…I was very, very cold for about a year!
Have a fun weekend and take the time to walk on the beach!!

    1. Hello Kindergarten.
The Redhead and anesthesia . . . people are always suprised when that little factoid pops out of my mouth. But it’s absolutely true. There have been quite a few studies about this over the years which have proved this to be true.
Apparently … Redheads are more resistant to pain medications too.

If memory serves … I think Novacaine (sp?) is one which was got a special mention – and dentistry work.

It just adds to the proof that we are all unique, in odd little ways.
Thanks for calling in and sharing a coffee with me. LOVE seeing you.

                1. nodding in agreement.

I made a suggestion … to someone on my blog a few weeks ago. . . I said that when I ruled the world the first thing I was going to do was make the working week just four days long.

We would have Saturday and Sunday as non working as normal, but to stop that horrible shortening of Sunday because of that miserble cloud which enters lives around about midday on a Sunday and hangs over everyones head …. whispering that we all have to go to work in just a few hours…. grrrrr….

I’m going to call Monday: “None Work, Working up to Work, Monday”. And on that newly named day, everyone would get free newspapers and magazines. Free Ice cream in the summer and Free Pies, Pasties and Casseroles … and chocolate!, in the Winter!

Then they’d go to work happy on a Tuesday, knowing that they only had to do another three days after that and it would be the weekend again!

So … you know what you have to do now? …

                  VOTE COBS! . . . . X

  2. Awesome 😁 I like the new feature! I did learn new things…the fact about the continents starting and ending – gasp- how did I never noticed that? 😳
But I doubt I’ll remember ‘Lethologica’ tomorrow 😝
Thanks for the fun facts! ~ Hugs 🤗 ~Tina xoxo

    1. Hello Tina. Great to see you.
The Continents . . . don’t fret about not noticing that … you’re among many – and everyone of them says that they don’t understand how they never noticed that! lol. Once you know … it’s obvious, and it screams out from the page! lol

Grandiloquent word of the Day: Lethologica … nope, you’ll absolutely forget the word .. but you’ll remember that there IS a word, and your brain will chase round, trying to find it, and it might even remember that it begins with the letter ‘L’ . . but you won’t be able to find where you filed that nugget of information at all… and it will annoy you, because you wanted to use the word to show how brilliant you are and how much intelligence you actually have.

Sadly … your brain will let you down.
      You’re not alone. lol

Thrilled you like the new Friday ‘thing’.

Isn’t the Kiwi the cutest little thing?

Polyandry … nope. Not ever. Never. No chance. Like you .. one is ample. lol

  4. Oh goodness…I stay in the state of lethologica. That is why I have so much trouble blogging.
The Kiwi is almost as cute as the hedgehog. Not sure it would make a good pet. Very interesting about the circular stairs. I’ve always wanted one, but now at my age I better keep closer to the ground. LOL
Yes, I did measure from my wrist to my elbow with my foot and yes even that is becoming a challenge. I must have some red in my hair which was once dark brown because I always require more than my share of nova. at the dentist. Really interesting info here Lady Cob. Have a smashing good weekend and be careful. I am concerned about the situation over there as here too. xoxo

    1. Hello beautiful Beverly! 😀
Lethologica should be made into it’s own country. It would have nurses to make sure that everyone was fine and groovy, living in that mid place where reality meets whatever state it is our brains are living in.

The Kiwi … I know!!! Isn’t it the cutest little bird?! Those feet. Huge. Bless it’s little heart.

Circular stairs … yes, I think terra firma is a good place to be.

Thank you for coming and having a coffee with me Beverly. I absolutely adore seeing your name here.
And yes.. I promise to be careful. For ‘careful’ is my middle name. I’m someone who plans for the worst, so that I can get the people I love out of any situation. I look where the exits are so that there will be no dithering etc. I plan for it … and then put it away, so that I can enjoy myself.
I’ve always done it, and I can’t see me ever stopping. lol

  5. OOOhhh very interesting, and I was laughing at myself, cos I measured my wrist to my elbow, against my foot. Mum always said she put me together wrong, and now I know for sure she did ‘cos my wrist to elbow is 10 inches, and my foot is 8″!!!! That being said I have physically lost 3 1/2″ in height from 5′ 6 1/2″ to 5’ 3 3/4″ and my shoe size when I left school was 6 1/2 and I am now 4 1/2, so there’s those missing 2″!!! I am proud to be following in the footsteps of the original Mrs Pepperpot lol Won’t be long before I can live in Barbie’s luxury pad at the bottom of the garden 🙂 Thanks for those wonderful facts!

    1. 🙂 Aw so happy that you got a few laughs from this post. I shall forever think of you as being dressed just like Mrs. Pepperpot .. stripey skirt, white blouse, white apron and your hair parted down the centre and taken up in a bun!

Thanks for coming Kim. Great to see you here.

  6. Love the new summer Friday post. I actually got out my ruler and measured my arm and foot. My foot grew from pregnancy so I thought for sure they would be different. Nope. Weird….maybe I just need to lose weight!
Thanks for bringing a smile to me today! I will be sharing your factoids with my family over dinner. So fun! I get the added bonus of the kids wanting to prove me wrong, they will actually look it up! 🙂
Thank for helping me keep their research skills up!
Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. I’m sat here giggling to myself. I knew that a bunch of readers would have to get the measuring tapes out and find out if their foot matched the measurment of their arm. I think there will always be exceptions to the rule … we’re all different and all unique.

Thank you so much for coming and having a coffee moment with me, Morning Scrapper. Love seeing you here.

  7. Oh what great tidbits! You put a smile on my face this Friday after a tough week! I do believe that lightning strikes men more often than women, they spend more time on the golf course, and mine during a storm goes outside to “watch” the sky while I head to the basement! LOL! Have a good weekend! 🙂

    1. I used to work with a strawberry blonde haired lady who was just the most lovely person I think I’ve ever met. She had such an amazing sense of humour and could laugh at herself whenever she saw the chance.

This lady had an incredible figure – very Marilyn Monroe – hourglass. But … she did have a chest measurement which was perhaps a little too large for her frame. Now this bit of information is important to what comes next, so hang onto that inside your mind ….

She was around 5’5″ tall, and wore a shoe size of only size 4. She had really little feet when compared to her body and height. However … she would always say that her feet were small …. “because nothing grows in the shade!”

(If you don’t ‘get’ it straight away, go back to what I told you to remember). lol.

Thanks for coming and spending a few minutes with me Daisies. Love seeing you here, and very much enjoy the chat.

  12. Oh, this is definitely a factoid post to rival Wikipedia, Cobs! I never knew the wise monkeys’ names… nor that horses learned how to climb stairs… and lethologica is something that I… erm… you know… ah… GET sometimes.
I DID know about the continents, however, and whenever I’ve pointed this out in the past, folk always say ‘what about Europe, that doesn’t start and and in the same letter’! I merely ask them to think about it…
Fun post, Cobs. More facts this week… or something different? 😉

      Thrilled you enjoyed it.
I love the monkey names, and when I tell people (in ‘real life’) they give me a look that clearly tells me that they think I’m a liar. LOL.

Lethologica … I really think that should be made into a place where people like me … and you… could live. Under supervision and with helpers on every corner so that they could help us with our missing words.

I’ll phone Theresa (May) tomorrow and put this to her. We’ve been friends for a while and … I think she owes me one.

    1. Hello Tami
I’ve been thinking about you. I was worried that I hadn’t seen any new blog posts from you and hadn’t seen you here for some fun.

It was only about half an hour ago when I went and looked at Tanglewood Knots that I realised I was looking at the wrong page/place!!! I needed to click ‘BLOG’. sigh. What a dope!
(I think I’m following the wrong ‘page’ – so of course, it never shows any new posts because that’s not the right page for that! The word numbskull comes to mind).

Thrilled to see you, my fabulous playmate, and so glad you enjoyed last weeks Friday Factoids.
‘Gallimaufry’ … that’s a new one on me. I had to look it up. It’s a delicious word to say out loud. I’m trying to make sure I remember it so that when the chance comes, I’ll be able to impress someone big time when I use it. LOL

Thank you so much for coming Tami. I love to see you and chatting with you is a delight.

      1. Dearest Cobs,
I’ve missed you too! I took a small sabbatical from writing and reading posts. No particular reason other than I simply wasn’t in the mood. You were in my thoughts though also. I have so many interwebs blogger friends to visit and say hello to now I fear it will take me another week to catch up!
Gallimaufry – isn’t that the yummiest of words!! You should know I went searching specifically for a word like that to put in my comment. I knew you would look it up!! I found a fabulous website dedicated to obscure words The Phrontistery (http://phrontistery.info/) – it is a treasure trove of words!!!
I will chat with you again soon and you can also email me if you ever want to say hello how are you – that would be delightful!! tangelwoodknots@gmail.com – oh maybe we could become snail mail pen pals someday – that would be such fun!!!

I fully understand the need to take a few days away to recharge your batteries and give yourself a break from the norm.

As for catching up … I don’t think I’ve ever caught up from when I was ill in January. I seemed to be forever trying and always failing. In the end I made a decision that I would simply start fresh with what everyone was posting, because otherwise I could see this ‘catching up’ going on into eternity.

Yes Gallimaufry is one of those words which is delicious to get your tongue around. I shall take a peep over on that link.

Thank you for the share of the email address. If I get the chance I’ll email you at some point and we can have a giggle.
