Nice Day to Bake . . . a card.

Haaapy Monday!  Can you believe it’s already the 22nd of May??  I had to do a double take when I looked at the calendar.  (Although why it’s called a Calendar I don’t know.  Surely it should be called a CalenDAYIt makes sense!  Calenday.  “Sweetheart . . . What date does it say on the calenday for a week on Monday?”   See?  CalendayI think we should start a movement and all begin to call it a Calenday.  That will get things put right!)

[thinks to self:  perhaps I should write to Mr.Trump, and Mr.Putin,  Prime Minister May,  Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,   South Korean President Park Geun-hye,  Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe,  French President Francois Hollande ….. and of course I shall drop The Queen a note about this.  I’m sure Her Majesty will agree that this is a grand idea!]

Aaaannnyhoo….  I made a card and I promised myself that I wouldn’t do a big long post and bore everyone to tears, so I’ll get on with showing you the card.

It was all made on a scored 6″x6″ white card.

Measured, cut and fixed in place the hessian you see in the photo (below), and while that was drying,  I distressed some pale(ish) blue gingham paper, tearing it and rolling it in places,  added some blue gingham ribbon and fixed the paper and ribbon two-some, in place, on top of the hessian.

1 Nice Day to Bake

Next came fussy cutting some honeycomb from a sheet of honeycomb printed paper then adhered it to the gingham paper.  Time for a little decoupage: to make the dresser, where the chicken has laid her eggs, and one little chick has already hatched.  🙂

5 Nice Day to Bake

If you look really closely you just might be able to see that there’s a cobweb in the space where the drawer is missing, – to the right hand side, in the upper corner of the drawer space.  I thought that was a nice touch considering who was making this.  lol

Can’t see it?  . . .  here it is . . .

cobweb Nice Day to Bake

I added bits of straw in various places,  and a tiny wooden rolling-pin – hanging on some cotton.  The silver bumble bee you see hanging below the large red petal flower is also hanging on a thread, so giving the buzzy bumble a ‘flying’ movement.

5 Nice Day to Bake

The lovely, fluffy marmalade coloured feather was donated by one of our chickens: Miss Edna BIG BIRD, HUGE EGGS Chicken.  She’s so accommodating.  I ask for a feather and she does the ‘chicken wiggle’ and out pops something perfect.  lol

The flower adornment was made using some pretty coloured stamens, some loofah strands,  a tiny piece of muslin which I pulled some threads from to make it kind of ‘feathery’ around the edges, and that lovely ‘blousy’ flower from my stash.

3 Nice Day to Bake

Finally,  it was time for some attention to the inside:  using some distressed yellow gingham paper,  cut to size,  I made an insert which I then stamped and added a Country Chicken ticket in the lower right hand corner.

OH!   And I added a bow made from the ribbon, to the front of the card!

And that,  as they say,  is all there was to it!

2 Nice Day to Bake

The papers and ribbons are all part of the DoCrafts ‘Home Sweet Home’ range.  I bought them about a year ago and used some of them, but then Summer moved to Autumn and so I put them away reminding myself to get them out again this year.  And … as strange as this might sound I actually remembered!  Ha!  Miracles really do happen.  😀

Everything else came from my stash.

So, changing the subject  ….  I was thinking about Mondays,  and I’ve worked out that Mondays were invented as a punishment for all the fun we have at the weekends!  Seriously.  It makes total sense when you think about it.  We all do have more fun at the weekends, and we obviously needed something to kind of get us back into line – so Monday was invented.  SOO….  Just get it over with and within 24 hours, it will be Tuesday,  after that  . . .  it’s all heading towards Friday  😀  … can’t get better than that!  So lets change things round a little.  Smile today.  Be happy.  Be all twinkly eyed and joke around.  Beat the system!

Oh … and just to get you started, here’s a Monday Special:

Q: What do you call a parade of rabbits hopping backwards? . . .   A: a receding hare-line.

Have a great day out there.  Be nice to yourself, and each other.  And … remember to look both ways when you cross the road!

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Aw bless you, Ruthie for such a lovely comment.
I prefer to give my cards in order to make someone else smile. I have the joy of making them …. and I want to share that joy, so I give them or donate them to charitable causes.

I have recently thought that perhaps I should do an Etsy shop … but it looks so complicated that I backed off, filled with worry about building the ‘shop’ and also how I would go about keeping the tax man (IRS in the USA) happy by working out how much tax I would have to pay him before he started chasing me. (I’d prefer to work it out and pay him before he asks me for it! eeek! lol)

Thank you so much for coming Ruthie, I love to see you, and thank you also for the lovely comment.

    1. Just jump in Emma. If you don’t like where it’s heading or how it’s turning out … then either take off the thing you don’t think is right … or, you could take a photo of it, on your phone, then walk away from your desk – go to the loo or go and sit on a comfy chair in the living room and after a few minutes of not thinking about the thing you’ve been making, take a peep at the photo. You might be able to see it in a different way then. You’ll be able to tell if you like it or not.

But …. don’t be too hard on yourself. There is no right way or wrong way. There is only YOUR way.
I think you’ll do absolutely brilliantly. Go for it. You won’t know until you try. Then post about it, on your blog, and ask readers to tell you what they think. Other crafters will be honest and they’ll either offer creative ideas, or they’ll love it.

      Go on Emma.
Like it says at the top of my page here (over on the right at the top) …

      1. Thanks for the pep talk! And a good tip, just leaving something be for a bit and coming back to it later – giving something some space is so helpful but I often forget to do it! I just spend hours on something and of course after that long on something you really do start to lose perspective on it and everything starts to look wrong 🙂

    Happy Monday evening,
Ooer I adore your card – the minute Moo see’s it I fully expect a Great British Bake Off battle to commence.
I’d love to spend an hour or two trawling through your imagination, who knows where we’d end up LOL, reading through the previous comment you really, really ought to investigate setting up an Etsy store, it’s quite easy to set up and you can get it all stocked up to your liking before you open it to the public ..give it a whirl 🙂
    Have a wonderful week xx

    1. Ohhhhh Hello Mrs. P!!!
I am missing you sooooo much!
I know you’re busy and have a ton of stuff going on and things to do by the bucket load, but knowing it doesn’t stop me missing some of my favourite people when they have to have a break from blogging. (and you’re one of my favourites – in case you were wondering lol)

An hour or two? In my imagination? Dear Dog! You’d only need a couple of minutes to see the whole brain! It’s like someone has raided the working of a clock and only left the face, hands and a couple of rusty cogs in there! LOL

I will have another look at setting up and Etsy store.
Actually … I might get Mr.Cobs to do it. He seems to have a bit of time on his hands. he he he.

Sooo happy to see you P. Love you oodles for coming.
Have a fabulous week with Moo. I hope the weather stays good for you so that he can use some energy up outside.
Don’t stay away too long now, cause I’ll fret!

            1. I saw some deeper ones in the last couple of weeks which were at a good price … but where did I see them? hmmm… Might have been B&Q. Rectangular – with ‘see through’ sides. Not overly big, but big enough. Make sure you have one of those ‘plug it into the car cigarette lighter thing’ inflaters which you blow up your tyres with – because it will kill you to try and blow it up using ‘self puff’. It’s far to big to do that with, that’s for sure!

They were quite a good price as I remember … somewhere around £15.
              Happy splashing! 😀

    1. Hello beautiful friend!
Aw, my craft room is embarrassingly filled to the brim.
It’s all due to years and years of crafting. I swear to dog that I could set someone up in their own craftroom with all the stash I have.

I’m so glad that you came … Can you email me your full land address Beverly? I can’t find your original email with it in.

Hotmail have ‘updated’ their email accounts and (apparently) made them all swish and funky.

For that, read: bally awful to try and navigate or find emails, or the dates they came in, or … well …. just about ANYTHING.

They’ve even split emails into two (kind of) folders. THEY have decided where my emails should go. And because of that … everything is topsy turvey.

After spending an hour yesterday trying to navigate it, I gave up. And up popped a window asking me for my feedback on the new look. Well!!! You can imagine what my feedback was like! I left them with no doubt what-so-ever about what I thought of it.
GRRRRRRrrrrrrr! [swear words being thought, just not uttered]

So .. can you email me your snail mail address again, as I’m sending you something 🙂 No … nothing amazing. Just a smile. 🙂

Oh no..not again..hasn’t been long since this machine went bonkers on me. Got in touch ,by phone, with McAfee and they got me going again. I am really just …..this far from throwing it in the drink. 1. Aw Beverly!
Ok … this is what my geeky friend of many years, who’s a total magician on computers, told me many years ago and I learnt the lessons well.
      1. DON’T open any links sent to you in emails – particularly forwarded emails (i.e. emails which they’d (the sender) had received and forwarded to you. The reason for this is that there is a huge possibility that their emails have been broken into and that they aren’t sending the emails, but some spamming thing is doing it, and spreading a virus by people clicking on the link. DON’T CLICK LINKS in emails.

If you know the person who’s sent the mail … write back to them and tell them that you can’t open the link (just that, nothing more) so could they please tell you what it’s about and you’ll then see if you can find it on the internet for yourself. (If it was important, or you feel that it was important then find it via google, using the words that your sender says the link was about … e.g.’Monkey playing drums’ … if it exists on the internet, whatever it is, Google will find it. But … if it’s not important, don’t bother trying to find it. It’s not worth the risk.

      2. If someone sends you an email who you don’t recognise … don’t even open it. If you don’t know them, then why are they emailing you? Mentally tell them to push off, as you delete the unopened email.

      3. Empty your junk emails daily. Don’t leave something sitting there. Get shut of it.

      4. If you go into a web page to read/look at something… don’t click links within that page you’ve opened, until you’ve asked yourself… “Does this look like it could have a virus in it?” If you’re not sure, then don’t click the link. If in doubt, leave it out. Don’t click the link.

      4. Only put your personal details into websites which have a lock showing in the address bar AND … AT THE start of the address it has https … So… TWO THINGS: It has to have both a lock and https at the beginning of the address on the address bar.
If you’re buying something from a website … if it needs your personal details … if it asks you to pay for ANYTHING over the interweb … check the bar for A LOCK AND https

If those two things aren’t there, don’t buy from that company. Find another company. (Even if you have to pay a few dollars more. It’s your safety, your bank account, and your computer.

      OK… lesson over.

I got you email with your snail mail address. I’ll be posting something Thursday or Friday this week … 😀

      1. Good advice..I don’t even answer phone calls that I don’t recon.
If they want me they better leave a message Do ya’ll get as much junk over there that I seem to get ? And I am on a do not call list. Just hasn’t done much good. Keeping the three little girls tomorrow for a while. Better sleep good tonight.

        1. Yup, we get junk mail too.
We’re on a list which states we don’t want junk mail, AND we too are on that telephone list stating that we don’t want phone calls trying to talk us into X or Y or Z. Have to admit, that we haven’t had one of those calls for about 5 weeks now, so maybe it’s finally working. 🙂

Wishing you a fabulous time with the three little girls. I hope your weather is good so that they can play outside and get rid of some of their excess energy!

    1. Aw, thank you Scrappy. The trick is …. to cover everything with double sided sticky tape, then pick up, in a two handed grab, as many bits and doo dads as you can pick up and then THROW them UP in the air and see how many things stick to the card. TA DAAAH!
      lol.

Aw seriously … thank you so much for the lovely comment Scrappy. Bless your beautiful heart. ❤

        1. LOL…. ah but wouldn’t it be a load of fun to try it … just once. lol

But seriously … you just have to make sure that everything ‘talks’ to each other. Everything should look like there’s a really enjoyable conversation going on between all the pieces.

If you had a scheme of (say) brown and gold … and you put a few black and red gems in there for decoration, it would be a totally different conversation. It’s the same with decorating up a card.
You can do it Scrappy. I’ve seen your fabulous makes and you know how to get a party going on, on paper. You’re amazing!
