What I learned this week.

Haaaappy Friday!  Here I am, again, ready to educationalmalise you.  I hope you’re ready.  Do you have a coffee?  Have you been to the loo?  Washed your hands?  Have you got everything you might need for the next few minutes, because you’re going to be stuck to that chair … so if there’s anything you need, we’ll all wait while you go and fetch it.

[waits. . .   waits some more. . .  wonders if we ‘waiters’ should play a game of Eye Spy . . .   Ohh… you’re back!  wait over!]

OK… let’s get into this, shall we?  Ready?  Steady …….  GO!

This week I’ve learned that paper cuts are painful little bug*ers – especially when you’ve managed to get one in that very soft, squishy bit of skin where your two fingers join together.  Yes… right there!   Ohhhh,  OUCH!

I felt the paper slice through that ‘V bit of soft skin’  like it was ‘un-zipping’ my skin as only a surgeon could do with a scalpel.  It made me wince, but now, 30 hours later it’s sore and has a slight throb going on,  especially so when I open my fingers to do something.  Ewwwwwey! Ouch! Ugh!  [shudder]

I also learned this week …

That the Palace of Versailles is worth:  $50.7 BILLION dollars.  Now I needed to find out what that was in British Pounds (obviously because I’m British), and I found out that $50,700,000,000 USD is equal to 39,175,890,000 GBP.  If you want to know how to actually say that in words:  Thirty nine billion, one hundred and seventy-five million, eight hundred and ninety thousand pounds.

Now you may be wondering why I wanted to know this about the Palace of Versailles (just in case you haven’t met this Palace before, you say Versailles:  ‘Ver-sigh’).  Well, I’ve been watching a rather decadent, period costume drama series about King Louis XIV of France, and the Palace of Versailles (it’s now in its second series) and find the whole thing fascinating, educating and enjoyable.  (You have to be able to ignore some of the more … erm …  ‘naughty’ moments which are included, because that’s the way it was at the time. Awful lot of mistresses etc.)

Palace of Versailles
Aerial view of The Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is the world’s largest royal domain comprising over eight million square metres of grounds.  Versailles was transformed from a regal hunting lodge into a spectacular palace by ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV during the late 17th century.

Hall of Mirror in Versailles 2
The Hall of Mirrors

The ceiling in The Hall of Mirrors

The palace features 700 rooms, including the stunning Hall of Mirrors, housing 5,000 pieces of antique furniture and 6,000 [notable] paintings, while the grounds boast 400 sculptures and 1,400 fountains.  (Is it any wonder that Versailles has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site?).

As I’ve been watching the series of programmes about King Louis XIV of France, and Versailles, I kept wondering how much the place must be worth now.  King Louis spent a HUGE amount of money on the building and making of the Palace, so I began to wonder about it’s worth now, and if he actually got his monies worth.  Hence the reason I found out how much Versailles is worth now.

There’s a lot more to be found out about the Palace,  and the King himself.  Wikipedia might be a great place to begin:  Louis XIV of France

This week I’ve also been looking into Time.  Not the magazine …  time as on the clock.  I’ve had a pre-occupation with Time and how quickly it passes, and so I kind of took a leisurely stroll through the library and have learned a handful of things relating to time.

William Willett, the inventor of Daylight Saving Time,  is the great-great grandfather of Coldplay’s Chris Martin.  I’d like to go back in TIME to have a word with Mr. Willett and tell him that it’s a waste of time moving those clocks around, and that it will turn out to be a real pain in the ar …  erm…  rear end, for people of the future.

I found out . . . .  The word ‘time’ is the most commonly used noun in English.

Where did the word come from originally? The oldest root we have is  – a Proto-Indo European prefix meaning ‘to cut or divide.’   That makes sense – in all its various guises,  time is a measure of the space between things.  The Greeks went even further than we did in stretching this meaning.  In Ancient Greek, dā mo became the distance between different types of people, as in demos or ‘ordinary citizens’ and even between the Gods and humans: dai-mon meant ‘divider’ and gave us our words daimon or demon.

Is there any other word small enough to describe something as mundane as a railway timetable and yet suggestive enough to encompass the deepest mysteries of the universe?  Only time will tell . . .

Telling Time in the Ancient World

Ancient Greeks used a device called a clepsydra (water-thief) as a timer for places and times when sundials couldn’t be used. This also consisted of a jar with a hole in the bottom, but worked in the opposite way to the bowl timers. As long as the jar was kept topped up, the water flowed out the bottom at a steady rate and could be used to measure time. clepsydra were used in courts to define how long speeches could last.

Most casinos have no windows and no clocks in order that their patrons will lose their sense of time.

The Incas based their measurement of time on how long it took to boil a potato.

Watch adverts nearly always show the time as 10:10. This is so that the hands of the watch neatly frame the brand name.

An octodesexcentenary is 592 years long.  (I wonder when/what it was/is used for?  I have absolutely no idea.  I’m just sharing what I learned).

And finally …

I learned that:-  Male goats stink when they’re in the mood for sex. Male sheep don’t.  …  And I think that’s enough about that one, thank you very much!

But …. before I toddle off,  I need to share some jokes with you …

THE JOKES

Q:  What did the ocean say to the boat? . . . A: Nothing it just waved.

Q:  Did you hear about how eating clocks was very time consuming?  A:  But it was so good, people go back for seconds.

I sometimes eat clocks just to pass the time.

I have an EpiPen.  My friend gave it to me when he was dying,  it seemed very important to him that I have it.

Why can’t you hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom?  Because the “P” is silent!

What did the green grape say to the purple grape?  OMG!!!!!!! BREATHE!! BREATHEEE!!!

and finally . . .

What do Alexander the Great and Winnie the Pooh have in common?  Same middle name.

~~  ❤  ~~

Those are the jokes folks!

Well, I have a visit to the hospital today …  so that’s a load of fun I’m looking forward to (not).  But later … I do believe that Mr.Cobs is taking me somewhere to cheer me up.  (I hope it involves spending money because that’s my most favourite hobby and I’m REALLY good at it).

What about you?  What’s going on in your world, this fabulous Friday?  Do tell.  Let me hear about you for a change.

Whatever you have planned, or whatever happens, I hope that today is a good day for you.  I wish you a tremendous weekend too.  Filled with love, peace and harmony, but most of all I wish you contentment.  For when you have contentment, everything else just falls into place.

Sending you love and squidges from me, here in my corner, to you there, in yours.

Be good to yourself, and each other.  And …  may your God go with you.

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Would love one of those chandeliers but unfortunately just one is as big as my place!! I do think that I would like to have a grand party there, but I don’t have enough people to say in all the bedrooms! Sad, but true. You could have bands at different places in that palace, and not hear the other! Here’s me thinking of going into a tiny home and you give me this to look at, lol.
I do think the jokes this week were very funny, the epi-pen tho, I did snicker. The grapes one, yup that one got me, and it must be an old one, those are the best. 🙂
It’s early evening here and I am having a warm cinnamon bun! I know, it’s late, but they are sooooo yummy and finger licking good. You have a good Friday and stay happy, well fed, and creative.
    hugs from here to here

    1. Aw Soozy … I too would love to have a chandelier like one of those … but we’ll have to buy some great big houses to accomodate them I think. Perhaps a Lottery Ticket should be bought. lol

Tiny homes have a lot going for them. Mr.C and I sold our lovely cottage which we’d lived in for almost all of our married life, and moved into a tiny wee cottage. It’s been a challenge, and it, to some extent, still is a challenge – five and a half years later. I still have boxes of things squirreled away in the loft. Ornaments which I loved desperately …. but we don’t have enough shelving or places to put these fabulous object.

But … it’s feeling more like ‘ours’, the more we do.

The jokes … some of my favourites in that little selection. My fave is the Winnie the Pooh joke right at the end of the jokes.

Your cinnamon bun sounds like the very thing to have when you’re nibbly before bedtime. 🙂

Have a fabulous Friday, and a truly wonderful weekend my friend. ~ Cobs. x

  2. Oh I so look forward to my Thursday evenings to get a head start on your Friday post! Love all the interesting information you passed on! I would love to go take a peek at that castle…just wander around the rooms and admire them! This weekend will be busy for me with Sunday being Mother’s Day. One of my sisters and her husband are coming down from Chicago, and my sister that lives here will be over as we prepare dinner for my Mom. Unfortunately I won’t get to see my daughter and son-in-law or grandson…they live 1000 miles away. It takes 1 3/4 day to get there and the weekend is only 2 days…not enough time and flying is too expensive. So I will just enjoy my family that will be here. Hope you have a lovely weekend! 🙂

    1. Hello Nancee
Like you, I too would like to visit Versailles. I want to lay on the ground and look up at the painted ceilings in the Hall of Mirrors.

You day of being together with most of your family members will be beautiful. When you’re sat around the table, mentally stop for a moment and feel the love in that room.

You’ll see your daughter, son-in-law and little grandson next time they’re in the area.
Sending you many Mothers Day wishes, and lots of love and squidges.

  3. HELLO dearest Cobs,
Mega informative post ~ as per expected 🙂 now where shall I begin….I couldn’t read the the amount of money Versailles was worth in numbers so I really appreciate you putting it into words LOL ~and as for time don’t even get me started an interesting factoid for you ~ do you know I refuse to wind my ships clock up (that I begged Beloved to buy for me by the way) because I became aware as it chimed each half hour it was a sign that my life was passing by at a rate of knots !! also when I was but a small child my father ALWAYS kept every clock in our house 10 mins fast so when I learned to tell the time at school the teacher couldn’t understand why I was always 10 mins adrift in my answers until Parents Evening when my dad explained why …Moo is learning to tell the time,
so all this week I’ve been giggling during our homework sessions as I’ve been reminiscing ~ he now thinks I’m some sort of eccentric AND FINALLY best joke ??? Winnie the Poo obviously
Thanks for the coffee & chat I’ve loved every minute I’ll dash off as no doubt you will be expecting many a blogging buddy to drop by to visit you
    Love ya

    1. Hello wonderful Mrs. P.
I miss seeing you so much. But … you have important business to take care of, so I won’t fret and whine. 😉

Oh, I know about not winding the clock up because of the noise.
I have a black forest cuckoo clock which I banged on about enough till Mr.C took me to the shop and told me to choose one.

I loved it when it was cuckooing away in the dining room of our old cottage, as it was quite away away from the main hubbub of stuff. But here, where we live now … aw heckaroonie! It’s like a nagging woman who reminds me that ANOTHER HOUR HAS PASSED AND YOU’RE STILL NOT DOING WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO!!

The clock had to be stopped. So now it just hangs there, looking like the beautiful thing it is, but without it’s voice or it’s pendulum swaying.

Actually laughed out loud at the 10 minutes behind when learning to tell the time. Awww, how brilliant, and what a wonderful memory! Love it.

The Winnie the Pooh joke IS MY MOST FAVOURITE EVER JOKE! It’s the one which … even though I know it, it STILL tickles me in my chuckle muscle and makes me giggle. lol

Love you too Mrs. P. Little Moo is a very lucky boy. Bless your heart for stepping in to fill the gap. I think you’re amazing.

  4. “Time” to get back to work! Just finished my coffee and had a very enjoyable read as always. I wonder how many cakes you can by for $50.7 Billion. That’s a lot of money isn’t it. Loved the jokes but did expect the Cowboy Time joke. Ten to ten to ten to ten…..Maybe it doesn’t translate that well! ha ha. Hope all goes well at the hospital and you have a fun time where ever Mr. Cobs takes you.
Have a great weekend. Hugs Flo xx

    1. OH MY STARS! I FORGOT THE COWBOY TIME JOKE!!! How on earth could I forget that? LOL
Hoping that you get your work done by the TIME you have to stop. But don’t sweat it, because everything gets done in good TIME, and anything which isn’t finished … well there’ll be TIME to finish it off another day. 🙂

Oh … and yes, I think I like the Inca way of telling time too. Food… best way to tell what time it is.: Potatoes for breakfast time (make it into waffles). Potatoes for lunch time ( add some cheese and mash!) Potatoes for Dinner … naturally with cooked meat of some description.

Of course … in between those time will be Chocolate time. Ice Cream time. Truffles time. Cake time. Luxury Biscuit time. And .. Sweety Time. Then somedays we can have Party Time – I’ll look forward to that one. 😀

I’ve just told Cobs the Bogeyman that I’m longing for … (wait for it) … a cold roast potato!
I know! I have tossed around the idea (inside my head) that I surely must be pregnant … but there’s no big star in the sky and I haven’t seen a stable around here anywhere, so that can’t be right.

  5. Thanks for the lessons on time and Versailles! Did you know that King Ludwig II of Bavaria built a smaller palace, Herrenchiemsee, that was based on Versailles because he admired King Louis XIV? It is on an island in the middle of a lake (Chiemsee). Have a good weekend. I hope your visit to the hospital goes well, and that Mr. Cobs is very successful in cheering you up afterwards.

    1. Oh Wow! No Kathy, I didn’t know that. Aw I’m going to have to go and Google that now so that I can have a look at it. Maybe it would be more affordable … so a lottery win would easily buy it. lol.

On an island in the middle of a lake sounds perfect. It’s the sort of place Mr.C and I have always longed for. (right … off to buy a lottery ticket and hope, wish and pray SO hard!)

  6. Hospital visit? Hope everything is alright and it IS just visit.
Oh my…can’t even think about the number of people involved in keeping a place like that or the cost of cleaning supplies. How often do they change the beds and how many baths?? Maybe no one stays there any more. Don’t you just wonder?
I did finish painting the bathroom but now think I need to go back over and use semi gloss. My designer niece said egg shell was ok ,but no …I don’t like it. Hard to please myself.
We have rain. That’s a good thing because once it cuts off it will be a long …hot…summer
I did post yesterday and will try to get back into this more often. Is it my age or am I just a slow whit. I just keep going down all these rabbit trails and going in circles. ….Oh well…This to shall pass.
Love to the Cob family and Happy Mothers Day American style.

    1. Hello dearest, most fabulous Beverly.
The Palace of Versailles – yes, I too wondered if anyone was no allowed to sleep or stay in the Palace, so I went and had a little look and I’m still not certain on that . . . but I did find out that if money were no object then you could get married there, or at the very least have some sort of ceremony there. BUT it would cost a F.O.R.T.U.N.E! They apparently call them Billionaire Weddings, for the obvious reasons.

Aw sorry to hear you’re going to have to re-paint the bathroom. I have egg-shell paint in my bathroom and I love it. But … we all have our own individual tastes and we’re right to do so. None of us are cooky cutter produced, eh? lol

Rain is good for it wakes up the earth and gives everything a bath. But .. a long hot summer isn’t something I enjoy. I’m no good in the heat. I’m like a little wilted dandelion in the heat.

I know that posting is difficult for you at the moment. Please don’t beat yourself up – remember you’re still on the Kilimanjaro climb, so things will be tough and your brain will be a little fuddled at the moment.

I wonder … how about taking one photograph a day and writing just three lines – but you can write less if you want, to go with the photo? Would that be something you’d find easier to do?

You could make the words inspirational. Or esperational. Or how about a poem which linked somehow to the picture which the photo captured.
Have a think about it. See if you’d find that quicker and easier. It might help you to focus your brain too. (but it’s just a thought.)

Rabbit trails and circles … [nods] we all do that. It shows that we aren’t in control of our thoughts and that we can’t seem to move forward in a direction. Like ‘you’ say … This too shall pass. This is a time, or challenge, which you have to over-come and learn what-ever it is which you are required to learn.
It’s just a challenge, my friend.
All you have to do is show how you can work to over-come and be the Victor of this Challenge.

So … put on your Armour of God. (Apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 6:10-18.) Take up your trusty sword and overcome the challenge Bev. We’re all here, cheering you on …. and your family and friends (and me, in spirit) will be waiting for you at the bottom of Kilimanjaro when you finally conquer it.

Happy American Mothers Day to you too Beverly. May peace and love fill your day, for you are loved beyond the point you think you are.

        1. Ahhhh… in that case, yes, you’re right. The wood planks would be better painted in semi-gloss so that it seals the wood from the damp of the bathroom.
Since you’ve done such hard work in the ‘undercoat’ (sigh) … maybe you’ll just need to do one coat of the semi gloss.
I’ll keep my fingers, toes, knees, eyes all crossed. Not looking my most attractive right now… but let’s hope it helps. LOL. C. x

You’ve been to Versailles? Ohhhh I’m so envious. But .. I kind of fear going incase it doesn’t match my expectation of it.
I SOoo want to see the Hall of Mirrors… and I really would want to lay on the floor and look up at the ceilings in order to take in the splendour of those breath-taking scenes which have been painted there.

I fully agree with you Anne, I’m so thankful that it wasn’t allowed to fall into disrepair or sold, knocked down or remodelled in any way. We’re so ‘lucky’ to have these beautiful buildings which speak of the history of our countries, still there for us to visit and experience.
Hugs and squidges to you too Anne. Thank you so much for coming for a visit.

Those palace pictures are something! The only palaces I have ever toured was Neuchwanstein, and I thought it was something. Versailles has it beat hands down! Though I would hate to have to dust that place……
Daylight savings time. Chicken granddad loves it. I just wish they would pick one and stick with it…..I really don’t care which one….just choose already.

            1. Let’s go with the theory that our brains are just so full of information already that it is hard to find a space to store any new stuff in there. And also if we do find a space it probably just gets wedged and won’t release the info when we need it because space is so tight.
I think it is a pretty stinkin good theory!

              Liked by 1 person

    1. Aww… I want to be your adopted kid!!! It’s impossible … I’m too old … but I can wish. LOL

Yes … dusting the Palace of Versailles …. oh my goodness. That would be a thankless task.
People don’t notice when you’ve cleaned a place to within an inch of your life, but they can find dust like a heat seeking missile if you’ve missed a tiny bit in a corner somewhere.

Daughter No.2 said loud and proud when she visited a few weeks ago … “There’s a cobweb in the corner there!”
The way she said it sounded like she’d found out that I’d stolen the Crown Jewels!

Aw daylight saving … drives me NUTS! It takes ages for my dog and cats to work out the difference, and poor Little Cobs doesn’t get it either. Why is his mom putting him to bed so early, and why is she getting him up when it’s still the middle of the night?

My favourite joke is the Winnie the Pooh one too! It has a sort of double whammy going on with it. There’s a definite DOH! moment. LOL

Have a fabulous weekend, and a very happy Mothers Day there in the US.

  9. Ah. Sorry about that, Cobs. I did dash to the Bathroom at the beginning there, and it took me eight hours to find the door again so I could return… hope you weren’t just waiting all that time, but if so, you should really have started eye-spy earlier. I’d have shouted if I’d realised you were waiting. Many apologies.
    Ah well.
I’m feeling educationalmalised once again. And relieved. By getting out of the Bathroom, that is, not… because… of… ah… OK.
Educationalmalised. The Palace of Versailles sounds very grand indeed. It was modeled on the Mansion, don’t you know? Back in the day. And the Grinds. Ahem.
And those paper cuts! Shockers for something that you usually don’t notice until hours later (covered in blood)… hope yours is healing nicely now.

PS. I really hope this comment only posts the once – WordPress is playing up this evening and I keep getting ‘the site may be down’ when I submit…

    1. “Site may be down”…. Well we’re going to have to try to cheer it up then, aren’t we!
Maybe you need to tell it some jokes. Pull some funny faces. Take your shirt off and do those funny muscle tightening things to *that* [dancing muscle] music … dum, de dum, de de diddle diddle dum, de dum … You know the tune … Opportunity Knocks … THAT tune.

Yeah – you doing the Muscle Dance .. that will cheer WordPress up! 😀

I had a sneaky suspicion that the Palace of Versailles had something to do with your Mansion. It was the chandliers in the Hall of Mirrors which gave me a clue … and the dungeon/jail underneath it.

With regard to you getting locked inside the bathroom … twas such a shame because you missed all the Jelly, Ice Cream and Sausage Rolls.
And I tried to save you one of the hampers of Chocolate, but couldn’t hang onto it. Some of these bloggers are really strong! If I hadn’t have let go of the handle on the wicker basket, they said they’d jump up and down on my toes!! Naturally I was scared, so I let go. [that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Please ignore the chocolate around me chops, and the bits which have melted on my t.shirt … it’s all coincidental]

Your prayer to the Gods worked, for your message only posted once.
I’m now wondering if WordPress is feeling excited by the suggestion of you taking your shirt off and doing the Muscle Dance.
(You’ll find the music on You Tube. Just ask it for Muscle Dance Opportunity Knocks … and it will give you what you desire).

I don’t mention the Mansion very often, just every so… a lot of the world’s buildings have been based upon it.
At least the comment posted, which at the time was a miracle in itself, things right now (touch wood) seem OK. Glad you enjoyed the chocolate and other goodies, I was otherwise engaged, although I didn’t see any evidence of anyone having any… I thought the splotches were merely shadows from the ambient lighting.
I’m now off to practice that dance. I may be seen in ambient lighting for some time to come afterwards…

I’ll ask some of the bloggers to volunteer as a team of ‘testers’ so that you can show them your ‘dance’ as you progress, and they’ll give you feedback, which will be helpful. You’ll know then what’s working and what needs to be tweaked. 😀

Y’know … perhaps it was fate that kept you from the chocolate. I mean … just think of all the weight you might have gained from eating that huge wicker hamper filled with chocolate?!!! You want to be in a healthy condition to do the Muscle Dance, because it must be exhausting to perform.

I’m really looking forward to this ‘happening’. We should arrange a room, in a lovely country public house, big enough to house all the bloggers, so that they can all have a wonderful night out …. AND … we’ll sell tickets to it! It will be a ticket only event, and that way we can raise funds to donate to a charity. Win!

I’m thrilled that you’ve taken the challenge on board and are dedicated to doing it, “Monsieur Tom, Muscle Dance Man”. Sounds pretty good to me. What do you think? 😀

          1. Sounds wonderful.
            (Eek)
I’m… er… hawfully sorry, but in my ‘aste to practice, I… er… well, I didn’t warm up properly, and ended up… ah… pulling both muscles and putting my back out. Hehehe. Ouch. I did tell you I’m not very good at exercise… I’m sure I did. Well, if I didn’t, I’m not. Should’ve realised before I started. Ah well.
Cobs, looks like you’ll have to find an understudy to perform for me, I have to take it easy now for the rest of the decade, so no strenuous dance moves or anything for me. In fact, I’m reclining now with a box of Quality Street to make me feel better (other chocolates are available!). It’s terribly painful when I swallow, but I can put up with that as the chocolate gently melts and fills me with all its oozy goodness. Hehehe. Ouch.

            1. Hey… what have you been cooking Tom? It smells so FISHY in here! 🐠 🐟 🐡
Or .. it could be 🐓 CHICKEN!
              😆
OK… we’ll put it on the back burner.

Now then … those chocolates which you’re scoffing down:
You do know, don’t you, that whatever it is that you wish you had, cannot be found in that chocolate box?
Don’t you be eating more than four chocolates a day Mr! Otherwise all your teeth will drop out! 😉
… and if that happens, we’ll have to rename you: Tom Gummiman
              he he … lol 😀

Oooow! Oh…I hate paper cuts! They really hurt and serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever…I got one on my tongue once from licking an envelope..😭😭😭
The Versailles facts were interesting, beautiful place! Just think how many cans of Mr. Sheen that would take to clean!
Hope everything is all right with you and that the hospital visit was o.k. My favourite this week is the pteradactyl joke…silent “P” ha ha ha!
Have a wonderful weekend and lots of love to you 💕😺xxx

    1. LOL… the silent P … yeahssssss. I did wonder if I would offend anyone with that one, but it was such fun that I just had to include it. LOL

Versailles … it really is, as you say, a beautiful place. The TV drama series which I’m watching is absolutely fascinating.
Although there are a small amount of people who got their knickers in a bunch about the naughtier aspects … it would have been darn difficult to have shown a true depiction of the times without the very VERY short scenes of bedroom ‘activities’. (And they are short scenes – seconds. Long enough so that you understand what’s being said or portrayed, but short enough not to feel the need to run for cover).

The actor they have playing the Sun King is quite brilliant.

But … I’d hate to be a cleaner there – in times gone by or today. It would be an absolute nightmare!

Oh … and the papercut is now on the mend, thankfully. 😀
Thank you so much for coming Samantha. I love to see you!
      May your weekend be wonderful!

      1. Glad to hear the paper cut is on the mend – I have had operations that hurt less!
I can see I shall have to catch up on this Versailles programme – my son did French history for his first year of “A” level History and really enjoyed it.
Have a wonderful weekend – lots of love to you 💕 xxx 💞

    1. Hello lovely lady!
Thrilled that life saved the smiles up for today. 😀
Ah hospital visits are always a waste of days (in my humble opinion – but that’s just me). I’d always rather be doing something else.
Wishing you a truly wonderful weekend Mrs. Craft. May the sun peep out and smile upon you, may the air be fresh, but warm enough to not wear a cardigan, and may the people around you all be so content with their lot that they seem to only be able to smile and talk in softer tones.

  12. Dear Cobs,
What?? I’m sorry speak up please……what??? Oh just a moment I need to turn the music down……….There that’s much better. Your mention of Coldplay made me squeal with delight and don my headphones. I do hope I wasn’t singing too loudly.
Poor Mr. Willett! He truly had the best intentions when he devised the “Summer Time” clock fiddling. How awful the way he’s been maligned and cursed by so many when he only wanted to allow everyone to experience a glorious summer morning by waking them up 80 minutes earlier than they otherwise would have. Here in the United States we like to wag our fingers at Benjamin Franklin for the time changing nonsense.

Now here is where the Daylight Saving Time and Versailles pass by each other in the hall and and give each other a friendly nod and a “how do you do”:
Mr. Franklin is erroneously believed to be the mastermind behind the time changing because while visiting in Paris he wrote an essay about the economical advantages of using sunlight instead of candlelight. Now Versailles is only 10 miles away from Paris which is about an hours long journey by horse! Which coincidentally is the amount of time that the clocks are adjusted by!
Daylight Saving Time –> Ben Franklin –> Paris –> Versailles –> 1 hour horseback ride away –> change the clock by 1 hour
Isn’t it wonderful how everything in some way is connected!
    Brightest blessings!

Aw Tami … you really are a tonic. I wish you were available on prescription.
“Take one spoonful, daily. Do not exceed the daily amount for fear you will turn into Violet Beauregard and possibly explode if you don’t have access to an Epi Pen”.

Have a truly wonderful weekend my friend.

  13. It’s true!! I’ve overdosed on myself many many times, too many times to count!! The side effects were horrendous – double vision, vertigo, increased appetite, wild frolicking, fits of blurting obscenities, and uncontrollable chocolate cravings!! Fortunately the perfect cure is to nap as soon as possible, and repeat the napping therapy until I’ve worked all of me out of my system!
Have a glorious weekend dear dear Cobs! 😀
