Happy Anniversary! I pegged on a Chalkboard.

Before we begin ….

This little chalkboard is proof, if more proof were needed, that I’m a ‘fricken’ rubbish photographer.  You see … in real life, this little chalkboard is so sweet.  So lovely.  Incredible in fact.  Something I was so proud of making,  and still am proud of making.  But in  all  the photos (and there were a LOT of photos taken) there wasn’t one good one. Not one.  🐻  (I wanted an emoticon with steam coming out of the ears but couldn’t find one, so you have a grumpy bear instead).

It was Mr.Cobs and his enchanting  sweet  charming  wonderful  captivating  rubbish photographer wife’s (me) 36th Wedding Anniversary recently and I wanted something other than just a normal card for him.

I know, 36 years!  I heard you gasp when you read it the first time.  It’s hard to believe isn’t it,  because I look so young in my Gravatar photo. What can I say …  he was a cradle snatcher, but I’ve grown accustomed to his face now so I won’t bother causing a fuss.

I went in search of something which would stand up on the shelf or coffee table, but which wasn’t made from a card or paper product.  I found the very thing. A little Chalkboard!

It came as four unprepared pieces so that you can do whatever you wish to them.  A front and a back piece – which are identical.  And a frame front section which goes on top of the front piece – so forming the frame around what will become the chalkboard, and finally – a smaller piece which will give you the little shelf for the chalk.

I waded straight in and painted the section on the front piece, in black paint to make it look like the black of a chalkboard.  While it was drying, I glued the ‘chalk shelf’ to the frame.  Once the paint was dry, I then fixed the frame onto the front (chalkboard painted) section, and held it tightly using some craft clamps and clips.

1 Anniversary Chalkboard

I painted the legs, frame and back of the chalkboard in Amish Blue paint, then once dry I coated it in a crackle glaze – which I bought many years ago (about 25 years ago) by the bucket-load, (well no, about 15 large bottles of it).  It was a new thing on the market then and I loved to crackle crafty stuff.  I had a couple of bottles left . . . .

I got a bottle out of my cupboard while chewing on my lip, telling myself that it would be no good.  It would have gone off after all this time.  BUT … IT HADN’T!!!   Ohhhh Joy thy name is Crackle!  I duly painted a coat of the crackle glaze, and once dried, I gave it another coat of the Amish Blue.  I didn’t want the ‘white peeping from behind the blue, or black or red etc’ thing that everyone seems to do.  I wanted a crackle which I could rub some antiquing medium into the cracks so that it had that old cracked varnish look like you find on things in posh shops.

Once everything dry, I added some white stencilling paste around the corner of the chalkboard to give it the suggestion of chalk dust sitting on the side.

Then I turned my attention to fixing the chalkboard back and front together – with soft white string as you can see in the photo’s.  And also make the ‘note’ which I wanted to fix to the board.

2 Anniversary Chalkboard

Next was the turn of the decorative paper flowers to the lower left corner.  White paper roses, some Prima blue daisies, and Prima pink roses.  Moss, and a few other bits of floral decorations and the corner was done!  (The twigs and the teeny pine cones came from my garden).

I added the sentiment – on some lovely striped paper from DoCrafts, in their Floral Muse range (which I ‘vintaged’ using brown ink and a duster brush), and fixed them in place using the two pegs (now glued to the board) and a dab of glue to the back of the ‘note’ to make sure that it didn’t try to make a get-away!

In case you can’t read it, the note says:   Happy Anniversary!  You are my best decision EVER!

3 Anniversary Chalkboard

And that’s all there was to it!

Explaining it makes it sound really complicated, but it really wasn’t.  Truthfully.  If I made it then any idiot with some glue, paint and a brush can do it.

Ohand yes, he really was.  My best decision,  ever.

After the three photographs you’ve seen here …. (and remember, these are not good) …  this was the next best one….

4 Anniversary Chalkboard

Look how blurred that is!!!   When I first opened up this last photo, I initially took my glasses off and rubbed them with the hem of my t-shirt which I had on!  I thought it was my glasses…. then my eyes …. and only after that did I realise that it was my fantastic talent for taking shocking photos.   (And if you think this one is bad you ought to see the ones I WOULDN’T show you!  lol).  But … if you look really carefully to the top bar, over the chalkboard, you can just about see the fine cracked varnish affect I got from using the same colour over the top of the crackle glaze, and then rubbing antiquing medium into the cracks to make the cracks show up.

Ah but anyhoo …

Before I go I have something I just have to share this with you.  Mr.Cobs reads a little selection of newspapers on-line and he popped over to the Daily Mail to glance down the main home page to see if there was anything he’d missed from elsewhere.   I came in from my craft room to find him laughing so hard (yet trying to keep it under control) so much that I thought he was about to have a fit of some description.  He eventually calmed down enough to show me what he was laughing about.  When I looked at it I too began to giggle, then laugh, eventually having to grab a tissue to wipe my eyes so I could continue to read.  I thought that I would love to share this with you because … well, there’s so much in life to give us a frown right now that if I can make just one of you smile even a little then grabbing the link to this would be very much worth it.  So, with my love, and with the advice of making sure you too have a tissue ready ….  I share this link:  Daily Mail UK – Answers Children gave for Tests.   It will open in another window for you.

Enjoy!

Thanks for coming for a visit, I love to see you, but then, you know that already.  ❤

Have a blessed day.  Be good to each other.   See you next time.

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Hello Kinderarten! 😀
I had a feeling that the childrens answers to tests would tickle the heck out of you.

I know exactly what you mean about not marking the answers wrong. I couldn’t have either. ❤

So pleased that you got some joy reading those.
Have a great rest of you day!

Child Brides… yes. I think we must have been married on the day we were born. We’re still way too young. 😉 lol

You and Chicken Grandad, 37 years! WHOO HOO! I think that we have better ‘sticking with it’ power than Gorilla Glue!

The Test Results: Yup … Bob and his addiction was the one which mad me cry with laughter. I was doubled up and going red in the face. (Not my most attractive. lol)
Aww, I’m so glad I shared that link. So much fabulous fun, and all free of charge!

      1. I laughed because I have three sons who would have answered exam questions like that! In fact the oldest did once in awhile. He is the one who wants to run a marathon in London next year! I told him if he does he needs to go visit you for me.

        1. LOL… London is quite a way away from me, and besides that – he should have WAY better places to visit than come to me!

I knew you’d find the childrens answers a source of fun and giggles. 😀 I’m so glad I was right.

            1. Noooooo. lol.
Because the USA is way bigger than Great Britain, in size, US people have a difficult time getting their heads around how far away we actually are from each other, and how long it can take to get from point A to point B.
We all understand why it happens and we really don’t mind about it. We only worry that folks of the US will come and think they can do the whole Island in a day. LOL.

We do have tons here to see though – especially so some of the centuries old architecture. I hope your marathon son gets to time enough to see a few places before he has to return home. (St.Pauls Cathedral is incredible, and the Tower of London – which houses the Crown Jewells! Oh … and of course, Buckingham Palace – you can actually now go inside the Palace and have a guided tour too! There’s even a shop inside, where he could buy his Mum a little somthing special as a gift. (just get him to read this reply so that it sows the seed in his brain. LOL).

              1. I will be seeing him this weekend! 40 years ago I was to Europe for a month with a group of girls….we backpacked it. We never did get across the channel which I really regret! It was amazing to us that you could get on a train and be through a bunch of different countries before you knew it!

                1. 40 years ago??? But …. you’re only 29 now! How can this be so? Do you have the elixer of forever young? If so …. send me some!!!

What a shame that you never got to pop over and visit the United Kingdom. You’d really like it. It’s such a beautiful land. Ohh, and you’d love Buckingham Palace!
Maybe you could add it to a bucket list. xxx

  2. That is such a splendid idea. It’s not something that I would ever have thought of for a card shape. I can’t seem to get beyond rectangle and square. I do love your work.

I completely understand your photography challenge. I’m about to give up on photographing my crafts. They are too dark, too washed out, blurry, or crooked. I think I could write my own version of Goldilocks!

  3. Aw children, they do keep us laughing. I love watching programs like that when kids are asked funny questions. Very good blog post today, this evening or tomorrow (Wednesday). It’s not here yet. I have yet again been out in the garden all day and have a sunburn on the back of my neck!
I do like that chalk board and the sentiment is lovely! I have been with my partner for 23 years now, but we are living in separate dwellings now for the last 12 years. Puts a whole different perspective on separate beds 🙂 We get along just fine this way for now, maybe in a few years we can try but I do need my own space with all my craft stuff, but being with him was a good decision 🙂 We are just such good friends, which is a good way to start any relationship 🙂
Have a great Wednesday. Thanks for keeping me smiling.

Aw what a treat to read about your partnership with your beloved.

Although not ‘conventional’, it’s obviously a great way for you two to work with each other, and what’s more …IT WORKS! It works for you two, and that’s what’s important.

Many congratulations on your 23 years together and also for the 12 years of living in your own dwellings and making your brilliant relationship with each other work fantastically.

Sorry to hear about your sunburnt neck! ouch!

Thrilled you enjoyed this blog post, Soozy, and that you got some smiles from the Childrens Test Answers.

Remember..photos don’t lie. HeHe.

    1. How right you are …. the camera does indeed tell the truth.
I’m a bit weird with regard to photographs. I always manage to stay out of them and, more often than not, be the person taking the photo because then I don’t have to appear in it. (ah, I have it all worked out!)

In this respect I can appreciate how the Amish people feel about images of themselves in photos, and actively discourage people from taking pictures of them when holiday makers and visitors visit the area where they live.

From a very young child I hated my photo being taken as I have always felt that the photograph captured a tiny part of me that I would never get back. Like … as if … it snatched, with razor type teeth, a small part of my soul and that tiny part was held captive in that photo. As a child I would weep and beg and cry buckets to get out of sitting on someone’s knee or being included in a group photo on the sofa or somewhere or other. And that feeling has never left me.

I’ve recently been talking with Mr.Cobs about it as I worry that Little Cobs won’t have a photo of his grammy, so I’ve just, in the past few weeks, now and again, snapped a photograph so that I can include it in a special book (mini album type of thing) just for him.

As for talent …. Me? Well …. I’ll let you know when I find my talent. LOL.
Thank you so much, dearest Beverly, for your good wishes and kindness. You are such a truly lovely lady and I have masses of respect for you.
