Things I’ve Learned This Week.

Hello and HAPPY FRIDAY!  Doesn’t seem like a week since you were here, does it?  Or maybe that’s just me.

This week, weather wise, has been a fabulous week.  The sun has shone every day – although we did have a couple of days which were a little cooler,  but on the whole it’s been really lovely.

Mr.Cobs and I took a trip to the Garden Centre to buy some plants for our back garden this week.  I wanted some ferns but they only had Tree Ferns, which wasn’t the thing I’d set my heart on, –  but we did manage to find some other plants which were on the list, so our journey was a productive one.   🙂

I have a handful of newly learned ‘lessons of life’ to share with you, fresh out of the box, and I hope that at least one of these things will perhaps make you smile.  Shall we get going?

I’ve learned this week that I honestly think that the major craft channel here in the UK  (Create and Craft) really should do away with charging people postage charges on their items.  They have just celebrated their Birthday (I forget which one) and as a gift to customers, they went postage and packing FREE (my very most favourite price) on anything and everything they sold.

Because of this I ordered waaay more than I normally would have, simply to take advantage of this great ‘bonus’.

Create and Craft, I’m thinking, should look at how much of an increase in sales they got for the short time they offered free p&p, and either drop the charges altogether, or reduce them by at least half of the current cost,  in order to encourage more sales.  C’mon Create and Craft… you know it makes sense!

This week I learned more about Electricity than I knew previously  … and some of it blew my socks off!  (well it would have had I been wearing any)…

Did you know that …

10% of Electricity in the US is made from dismantled Soviet atomic bombs. [nods…]…  surprised me too!

La Paz, Bolivia, was the first South American city to get an electricity supply.  It was powered by . . .   llama dung.  😀

I learned …  A typical microwave oven uses more electricity keeping its digital clock on standby than it does heating food.  Ha!  I never knew that, but it’s something to think about ….  because the microwave isn’t the only thing in Cobweb Towers which is left on standby …  which made me wonder if I could perhaps find a way of working out exactly how much money I was wasting by doing this … so that it would shock Cobs the Bogeyman into actually turning off and unplugging those things.  (Him, to save money.  Me, to stop me worrying about the fire concerns from leaving things switched on and ‘waiting … waiting …. waiting’  in the standby mode like that.)

I also learned…  That  ALL  the batteries on Earth store just ten minutes of the world’s electricity needs.  Let’s all hope that we don’t ever run out of electricity because Christmas Dinners just won’t feel the same when they’re just honey with a spoon.

I also learned this week some rather interesting stuff about BRAINS!

Crossing your arms can reduce pain by confusing your brain.  (my brain is already confused so not sure if that would work for me)

And …  People generally read from paper 25% faster than from a computer monitor.

Also …  Once we reach the age of 35, we will start losing approximately 7,000 brain cells each day—cells that will never be replaced.  (I’m already down to 75 brain cells left, so I have no idea how this is going to go for me!  eeeek!).

Ohhh… and get this one:  Your brain is about 2% of your total body weight but uses 20% of your all your body’s oxygen and calories.  So those biscuits you ate with your coffee … don’t worry about them.  You’re brain will have eaten those so you don’t have to count them in your diet.  🙂

And apparently:  The average human dream lasts only two to three seconds and the average person has at least seven dreams a night.  People with a higher IQ have more dreams.  That CANNOT be right.  I dream lots ….  but am like Winnie the Pooh  …  …  I’m a bear of very little brain …. so something in that ‘higher IQ’  doesn’t add up.  Perhaps I’m  the exception which proves the rule?

“When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.”   A.A. Milne,   Winnie-the-Pooh

Moving on from the brain …  but on another medical slant …   After seeing photographs of Kim Kardashians bottom in the newspapers this week,  I kind of got to wondering what Botox actually was.  Now I’m not saying that Miss Kim has had Botox – in her bottom or any other place – but, well … it’s plumped up size did look rather strange to me and it just sent my ‘wonderings’  down a pathway which made me ask about what Botox was made of….  so I investigated.

I learned . . .   Botox was discovered in the fat of spoiled pork and was called botulism by the doctor who figured out a medicinal use for it.  In the 1960’s it was used to correct cross-eyed syndrome.

As someone who has issues with pork (it makes me violently sick) I can 100% confirm that I will NEVER, EVER, EVER have any Botox injected, pushed, pumped syphoned or any other way put into my body.

Finally …  I learned this week that it will soon be World Naked Gardening Day.  Next week in fact.  Saturday the 6th of May to be precise.

So don’t be alarmed if you see your neighbour mowing the lawn in the buff a week on Saturday,  they’re probably just celebrating World Naked Gardening Day.  🙂

It’s true … I’m not making it up.  When I heard about it I thought it HAD to be a joke, so went in search of some proof, and found it!

It’s apparently been celebrated around the world since 2005.  The group behind the ‘festivities’ were inspired by the World Naked Bike Ride event.
More information can be found here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Naked_Gardening_Day
 ❤
Well,  it’s nearly the end of the ‘Things I Learned’ post,  but there’s just one more thing I have to do ….
THE JOKES!
Wife: “How would you describe me?”
Husband:  …   “ABCDEFGHIJK.”
Wife:   “What does that mean?”
Husband: …  “Adorable, beautiful, cute, delightful, elegant, fashionable, gorgeous, and hot.”
Wife:“Aw, thank you, but what about IJK?”
Husband: . . . “I’m just kidding!”
Q: What starts with E, ends with E, and has only 1 letter in it?
A: . .  Envelope.
Q:   Why does Humpty Dumpty love autumn?
A:   Because Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
Q:  What do you call a pig that does karate?
A:   A pork chop
Don’t break anybody’s heart; they only have 1.
Break their bones; they have 206!
Q:  If you have 13 apples in one hand and 10 oranges in the other, what do you have?
A:  Big hands
~~~
and finally ….
~~~
Q: What happens once in a minute and twice in a moment but never in a decade?
A:  . . . The letter “m.”
~~~
~~~
Well, that’s me done and dusted for another ‘Coffee with Cobs on a Friday’ post.  Thank you so much for coming and spending some time with me.  I love seeing you and enjoy spending time with you.  I hope that your weekend will be bright, warm and filled to the rafters with happiness.  May trouble stay away, and may love find a way to your door and heart.  And, until we get together again, may your God go with you.

Have a truly blessed rest of your day   ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Well, I too learned a lot from that, not least of which will be to keep my eyes averted on World Naked Day. Very few would make a pretty sight, but then I’m sure that is not what it’s all about. What is it all about I wonder?
Botox – I’m with you on that front. I adore pigs (pity they don’t make everyone violently sick, if you ask me), but I digress.
Electricity – we certainly waste an awful lot of it in this house, which is ridiculous, must check out the standby situation.
I agree on the postage issue but don’t get me started on paying for returns.
    Cheers, Barbara

    1. Morning Barbara, happy Friday! 😀
World Naked Day … I have no idea why people do it. I can’t help thinking that it’s the exhibitionist which is living within them and they set it free on these ‘Naked Days’. But my brain questions why. I feel so much more lovely in clothes, but then, in my heart, I’m still a child playing dress up! lol

      Postage issues …. Grrrr!
Companies don’t realise how much custom they’re losing by charging customers a costly amount for postage.

Just this morning, I’ve already received an item from Create & Craft which I’ve wanted for around 5 months, but wouldn’t purchase from them simply because the p&p charges were more than the item itself cost to buy! (Got it now though, yay!)

We need C&Craft to read my blog post and take it on board. (like that’s going to happen! lol)

Aww thanks for coming and having a coffee with me, and sharing a chat. I love to see you.

  2. I think you’ve excelled yourself this week! I’m a bit of a Winnie the Pooh fan, so I loved the quote. The fact about brain cells dying after 35 has made me sad, I’d better make the most of the next couple of years before I go downhill. 😓 I agree about postage costs, I’d buy more if it was cheaper too! And of course the jokes made me chuckle. It’s been freezing here this week and I’ve been feeling nervous for my plants even though they’re in the greenhouse. All doodle so far… Have a lovely weekend Mrs Cobs x x

    1. Hello Mrs. Craft, HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀

Like you, I too looove Winnie the Pooh. There are many lessons to be learned from a bear of little brain. 😉

I’m so happy to hear that you agree with me regarding the Create and Craft postage costs. They really do need to take note and act accordingly.

Sorry to hear about your freezing cold weather. Here’s hoping that Mother Nature gets a wiggle on where you live.

Thank you for coming and sharing a coffee with me Mrs.C. It’s so great to chat with you.

Ha ha ha! Gnaked Gnomes!! Mind you, don’t think I’ll be doing any naked gardening considering we had snow here the other day..weather doesn’t know what it’s doing at the moment!
Things left on “standby” irritate me too..the electricity is still being sent down the cable! And lol…big hands!! Have a great day, lots of love 🙂 xxx

LOL… yerrrssss…the gnaked gnomes was the only thing I could think of to ‘represent’ World Naked Gardening Day, which wouldn’t be awfully offensive and which I’d be happy to have on the ol’ blog here. LOL

You had SNOW??? [shakes head in puzzlement]. Someone is messingaround with our weather. Maybe it’s a little green alien whizzing around the sky and having a laugh. tsk tsk.

Thrilled you like the ‘big hands’ … that’s a favourite of mine .. more because I can remember it and not forget the punch line. lol

Thanks for coming and having a coffee with me. Love seeing you Samantha.

        1. Well dash and darn it! I’ve only just read your message …. and I forgot all about Most Haunted because I was watching Sarah Millican (stand up comedian). I’ve not laughed as much for aaaages! She tickled the heck out of me.

I shall make a note for myself and stick it to the edge of my monitor. Those are the notes I don’t miss.

I bet tonights Most Haunted was brilliant. They always are when I miss them. tsk.

  4. Great idea about C&C ditching postage costs. It definitely would entice me to buy more! Now, the thing about electrical items on standby. We had a fire training session at work – you know, those ones where you get to test all the extinguishers in the car park and you all aim for the boss’s car? Well the trainer mentioned that a TV uses something like 60-80% ( can’t remember exactly) of the power on standby as it does when in use. That is a LOT! You could switch everything off when you are finished with it, and put the money you have saved towards more craft goodies! You are welcome…..

    1. I’m showing this to Cobs the Bogeyman! He has a short arm and a long pocket, so saving money like that would appeal to him greatly. The problem is … that he really likes to have things switch on instantly without any fuss … so he leaves things on ‘standby’ – which I just hate because I really do worry about the fire/safety issues surrounding something which is, in reality, left ‘on’ all the time.

(Chargers are my greatest concern, and I’ll have a big temper tantrum if I find a charger left ‘on’ and/or plugged into the electricity. Those babies can get quite warm to the touch – which cannot be a good thing).

      More craft goodies? YES!!

  5. I’m so glad you reminded me of Pooh. I read in a catalog of books (Bas Bleu) that Hundred Acre Wood is based on Ashdown Forest. Do you live close. Visit there for me. I think that would be a lovely place to visit. The book is The Natural World of Winnie-the -Pooh by Kathryn Aalto. If we all had Pooh’s wisdom wouldn’t this be s simpler place to live.? My sale has gone well. A couple of people haven’t paid yet but if they don’t I’ll put things back on post. It was pretty nerve racking for a while until I found out how things work. LOL
What plants did you get? I have built a fence…all by myself..well with a little help from son#3…so that crazy dog will stop digging up my flowerbed. things have come back…other are long gone. Such is life. I know…will I ever get to the Blue Sky? Yes!

    1. Hello Beautiful Beverly!
I absolutely adore Winnie the Pooh and can quote great big bits from the books and also sing the song, without being reminded of any words. I drove my daughters mental when they were little, reading them the books and singing, and I’m now working on Little Cobs! lol

Your right …Ashdown Forest is indeed the place where Christopher Robin had his magical place and where Owl, Kanga, Little Roo, Piglet, Rabbit, Eeyore and Tigger all lived out there daily lives.

Sadly I don’t live that close to it, no. It’s about 135(ish) miles away, and it would take roughly two and a half, to three hours (depending on route and traffic) to get to it. However … it is somewhere I’d like to visit, so if I do eventually make the trip, I will most certainly take your spirit with me, and I shall take tons of photos so that I can share them with you.

GREAT news about the sale going well. I’m thrilled to pieced for you. Well done, you clever thing!

The plants I chose (this time) for the garden at the rear of our cottage were: a large, evergreen plant which is a great ground cover, but it spreads upwards and outwards so it will cover the stump left over from having a Pine tree cut down a few years ago, before we bought the cottage. Mr. Cobs has tried everything he can to remove that stump and the darn thing won’t budge. So I said I wanted “one of those evergreen plants we had by our pond at the old cottage” because I knew Mr.C would instantly ‘get’ the one I was talking about. It’s called: Chamaecyparis Obtusa Pygmea. It can grow taller, but we keep it low(ish) so that it will drape itself over the tree stump, and in return the tree stump will support it’s branches. win win situation.

I also bought six Verve Euonymus – three of a more solid (dusty looking) colour, and three which have a golden yellow and green leaf. I want to keep these kind of low, and make an almost hedged look around a bed. I’m going to need more of those but we forgot to clear the boot (trunk) of the car before we went merrily on our way to the garden centre, and because of that couldn’t buy as many plants as I’d like to have as there was no where to put them! DOH! tsk tsk. (what a numbskull eh? lol)

I’m impressed with your building of a fence (even if it did have a little help from No.3 son). I bet the Dog is now looking very puzzled and trying to get a plan together of either breaking into the jail you’ve built around the flower bed, or finding something new to make a hole.

Your blue sky is there…. just wait your turn! lol

        1. Aw not really … they’re plants I used to have in my garden at our old cottage where we used to live, and I loved them dearly. They were great plants and were fine with shade.
We have taaaaaall pine trees in our garden which are protected by law, so we can’t chop ’em down or do anything to harm them. We have to just care for them and do what’s necessary. (lob loose branches off etc). These trees, for me, are a God send, as I’m not good in sunshine or hot hot weather. The tall canopy that the tree tops make are brilliant, as they filter the sun and some of the heat out. But … they dictate the types of plants I can put in the garden. So … after a few years of getting to know the garden and also learning that it’s impossible to grow grass in the garden at the rear of our property, I finally decided that I’d go for something green and pretty to look at – but build as much evergreens into the garden, with different colours, bearing in mind that all the plants need to be ok with dappled sunlight and shade lovers.

(I’d like to pop some hostas in there, but there are too many greedy snails so that wish has been discarded.)

We’re kind of bungling along with the garden(s) as they’re so much smaller than what we did have for 30+ years. Going to something so small is whole different ball game and we’re having to understand a totally different set of ‘rules’. But we’ll get there in the end. I’m starting to feel more confident about things now. xx

          1. a bowl of beer will kill the snails which is a good use of the drink. I did look it up…a kind of juniper. Nice plant if you don’t have bag worms to deal with. Our pines are having a terrible time staying alive . Not enough rain the last couple of years. So sad to cut them down but they are a fire hazard.

    1. Hello Anne. Oh it’s SO nice to see you.

I know this might sound a little daft but … when I see you here it honestly feels like the door has opened and a wonderful breeze has blown in, refreshing everything and brightening the whole cottage. It’s such a truly fabulous feeling inside my heart.

Botox … I wasn’t really ‘for’ it before I learned what it was made of … once I found that out I could feel the revulsion that my face was displaying, and I knew in an instant that I’d never have this proceedure if it was given to me, totally free of charge. OOooo ….(screws face up in horror) not a chance!

Crossing your arms to reduce pain …. When I found that out I made a mental note to try that… and then promptly forgot. [sigh!] But I shall continue to try and remember and see if it works.

Thank you so much for coming Anne. It’s such a thrill to see you here and have a chat.

  7. Another wonderful post Cobs!! I am learning ever so much when I come visit over here.
Anyway…..I have been staying out of the garden center as they keep telling us we are going to see snow flurries this weekend! Yes!!! in the Spring!! Something is out of whack over here.
Oh No on the brain cells. At that rate I am sunk already! I guess on the bright side…once they are gone we probably won’t even realize it????
Hmm I wonder if Miss Kim had botox? I always thought it looked like she had shoved a couple balloons under her dress…….
About that naked gardening day….if our weather is cool, I think I will pass on that one. It does make me wonder what Chicken Grandad would have to say about that…..No No! Faye….don’t go down that road…back away and run! (I do think naked bicycling day would just be down right uncomfortable!)
Loved the husband/wife joke. I do believe the husband must be older and have lost a majority of his brain cells to complete that joke!
Have a great weekend Cobs and keep on educationalmalising us.

Naked Gardening Day . . . I don’t get it, and I won’t be joining in either. No One Wants To See THIS – [points to body and waggles finger up and down] – without any clothes on it.

What is it that that woman says on that news video about the fire … oh yes … “Ain’t no body got time for that!”
      😀 😀 😀

And as for the Naked Bicycle riding … THEY MUST BE MENTAL! I’m not keen on bicycle seats fully clothed, so naked??? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I respect my girly equipment way more than the people joining in obviously do! Cooo … not even if they paid me!

I particularly enjoyed learning from you that botox is as icky as I thought it was, that I’m not the only one who buys more when shipping and handling are free, that electricity can be made from llama dung, and that there is a world naked gardening day. 10. Dear Cobs,
If Miss K could come up with some way to generate electricity from her bottom then we in the US could enjoy some significant savings on our rates, and she would be for once providing a beneficial service to the public.
Oh how catty am I???? I’m just dreadful. Poor Miss Kim shouldn’t be maligned by a flat butted nobody like myself. She does wonders for the US economy, I’m quite sure.
Here is a fun fact about me – The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is my absolute favorite movie to have on the television while I nap. In fact I’m quite sure that I could make myself drowsy just by singing the Rumbly in my Tumbly song.

    1. I’m so rumbly in my tumbly
Time to munch an early luncheon
      hum dee dum dum dum.

Oh I wouldn’t climb this tree
If a Pooh flew like a bee
      But I wouldn’t be a bear then
      So I guess I wouldn’t care then!

Bears love honey and I’m a Pooh bear
So I do care, so I’ll climb there
I’m so rumbly in my tumbly
Time for something …. for something … sweet!

I have to admit that my favourite Pooh song is … Little Black Rain Cloud. Aw there’s something so wonderfully sweet about that song.

As for Miss Kim … she’s entitled to have a huge bottom if that’s what she wants. But if she splashes it all over the news and lets people photograph it from all angles so that they can sell the photos to newspapers and she gets free promotion … then I reserve the right to have an opinion about her swallowing two bowling balls and being unable to ‘pass’ them through the system. 🤓

Bright blessings Tami. Have a truly lovely weekend, with lots of smiles.

I can’t think what else they could call themselves which would describe how these normally sensible members of the human race would, on one day of the year, take all their clothes off and run round (or bike) naked so that the rest of the world can stand and gawp, open mouthed, at them. They can give the argument that we all began that way, but we evolved and clothes won’t (as far as I can see) ever be left behind in the past. So with this in mind, these exhibi… er … naked people, have got to see that there’s something wrong with their thinking, not ours.

Thrilled you’re still loving the jokes. I’ll keep on dragging them out! LOL.

    1. Hello Nancee 😀
No brain cells left? I think we should start a club! I’m pretty sure there are more of us who feel that way.

The weekend … well it did rain a ‘bit’ (cough) here in the south of England, but … anytime I’m alive and breathing is a great blessing, and who cares about the weather, eh? We can still carry on carrying on! lol

I’m so thrilled to pieces that you enjoy the blog posts. It’s lovely to know that someone gets a bit of fun from them as it lets me know I’m not talking to fresh air. (or some little green alien in his space ship, out there somewhere!) lol.
Wishing you a wonderful week. May it be a little less wet and a whole lot enjoyable.
