Never Stop Making Wishes!

Going through the moving of my sewing deskalong with numerous boxes of crafty stuff which I did last week,   I came across a long forgotten little blackboard which I bought from one of those pound shops for … yes you guessed it,  a £1.  I can remember that I bought it with something in mind to do with it, however that ‘something’ long ago made its travelling plans and went on a walking holiday out of my right ear and never came back.  So … seeing the blackboard again made me think that I really needed to do something with it.  So I did!

Like the dope that I am   … I forgot to take a photo of the blackboard in its original state, (DOH!)  so I took a photo of the back of it so that you could see the plain wood and what colour it was.

Back of the Blackboard

It’s a soft wood, and quite light in weight, so not something that will pull a wall down if you hang it on a nail!

Blackboard painted

The front … I painted the frame in a deep wine red colour.  It took the paint really well and dried pretty quickly, which I was glad about because I was eager to crack on with the project.

While waiting …  I knew I wanted to put some flowers on the frame, so set about making some roses.

The making of the blackboard flowers
petals in No.1 are waiting to be formed.  Petals in No.2 have been shaped into ‘cup’ shapes.  And finally, No.3 is the completed ‘rose’ flower.

I cut out a variety of sizes of the same flower – one was to be a larger flower and I wanted two others to be slightly smaller.

Once the shapes were cut, I then popped them into a cardboard box which I’d lined with some cling-film (cling wrap), and I lay the ‘petals’ of each flower on it, and then spritzed them with some Cosmic Shimmer sprays, to turn the petals into the colours I wanted them to be.

While these were drying, I went back to the blackboard and did the ‘words of encouragement’ you see in the photo.

blurry hanging on the wall Wishes Blackboard
Bit of a blurry photo, but the only one I got of it hanging on the wall of my cottage. (The flash wiped out the colours a little and left everything looking ‘flat’)

Once the rose petals were dry, I then shaped them into ‘cup’ shapes, and assembled them, shaping the petals as I went along.  Once all assembled, I then spritzed them again, very lightly, where needed, to adjust each rose colour so that it looked like it had grown on the same bush as the others.  (there’s method in my madness! lol).  Finally, I added a tiny sprinkle, here and there, of chunky ice crystals (like glitter, but not) – just to give them a bit of sparkle.

I die cut some leaves, and a bit of deep ‘greenery’ filler and then built the floral decoration in the top left corner, making it sit upon a little soft cream coloured crocheted doily.

And that’s all there was to it!  Ta Dahhhh!

Finished Blackboard

Happy Monday!

May I just take this moment to say hello to some new followers.  I won’t mention each person by name, but you know who you are.  🙂  Thank you for joining and coming to visit.  Please feel free to chat away in a comment on any post you’d like to.  Don’t feel shy.  Everyone here is amazingly friendly and you’ll fit right in.

If you can’t work out where the comments section is …  go to the top of the post you want to comment on and find the title of the post (eg: for this post the title is  Never Stop Making Wishes) … just over to the right of the title is a pale grey speech bubble which will turn darker when you hover your cursor on it.  Click that speech bubble and it will take you to the comments section and you’ll be able to read and write there.  😀

So anyhoo ….  This is the last Monday in April….  so let’s make it a great day!  Plaster a smile to your face and each time you catch yourself without your smile, paste it back there and try to keep it there.  If nothing else it will make people wonder what you’re up to!  lol

Have a truly lovely day my friends,  and …  be good to each other.

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

Aw I’m thrilled to pieces that you like the blackboard, and the roses. They’re so easy to make, just a little bit time consuming, but they work so well and hold their shape.

  2. Love your chalkboard and the inspirational note. We forget as adults and parents that wishes are not just for the kids. Thanks for the tutorial on altering the frame, it looks great. I love the flowers, they do like they came from the bush! Awesome post!

    1. Hello Morning Scrapper 🙂
Absolutely over-joyed that you like the chalkboard and how it’s been altered. It no longer looks like a £1.00 childrens board at all, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.

Thank you so much for both coming and sharing a coffee time with me, and fo leaving such a truly wonderful comment.
      Bless your beautiful heart.

  3. Oh…I really love this pretty little blackboard! The message is true perfection! I was amused by the name “Pound Shop’! Dumb, Dumb Me!! I never thought about that our “Dollar Stores” would have a different name in England! My brain has gone crazy and has evidently jumped ship!!!

    1. LOLOLOL! Ohhh bless you, Kindergarten. Aww I’m smiling from ear to ear. LOL. But … I’ll let you into a secret .. when I was typing this post out I wrote “Pound Shop” and sat for a moment trying to work out what something like this would be called in the US so that I could add the words into the post for any US readers…. and I couldn’t think that theUSA had an equivalent shop, so had to hope that anyone reading would understand what a pound shop would be. LOLOL. I never once thought of Dollar Store!
See … you’re not alone. I’m as daft as you. lol. 😀 😀

      Thrilled you like the blackboard.

      1. Ha! So funny! We have Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Everything’s a Dollar and who knows what else! I am crazy about those stores!! I feel better that you are also sort of daft…but I just know that I am WAY more so!!! I have already walked to the end of the driveway to take out the trash this morning. One small problem…I forgot to take the trash can with me! So see Cobs…I win the prize today!

          1. Yes…of course, it makes sense! I am about to go to an appointment at my eye doctor…regular check-up. With being so obviously out-of-it today after the trash fiasco…I do hope that I can figure out how to get on the freeways correctly! Plus…drive through downtown Fort Worth without getting in the way of a bus!!

    1. Yes – easy to do – with the help of a damp cloth and a little rubbing. I did have a moment when I considered sealing the ‘sentiment’, but decided against it in case I got bored. lol.

Thrilled you like it. Thanks for coming and sharing a coffee moment with me Samantha! 🙂

  4. Dear Cobs,
I have been squishing my eyes shut tight and wishing very very hard that I could be as clever and crafty as you are for the past 10 minutes – well except for the 2 minutes here when I peeked a little bit so that I could type my comment. I will spend the rest of the morning tidying up so that when the Wish Fairy comes to give me a little magic knock on the head she won’t be frightened away by last night’s dinner dishes in the sink!
Hope you have a lovely week!
    Brightest blessings 🙂

    1. Dearest Tami …
Please don’t keep your aims so low. Ask your Wish Fairy for MEGA CRAFTINESS to be installed on your hard-drive. You need all the apps too. Knowledge of painting. Knowledge of every single glue known to man – so that you can stick anything to anything! You also need details of how to use any bit of crafty equipment which is installed in your craft room, so that you don’t have to spend two weeks making mistakes before you get it right! There are other apps, but your Fairy will do them all – if you just ask her to.

Aw …. you are such a rascal Tami, and you make me giggle each time you come.
Have a fabulous day … and clean up those dishes. They’ll nag you until you do them, so get them out of the way and then you’ll be ready, willing and waiting for the Fairy Knock at the door.

Cooo … you buy your flowers in glass bottles? You must go to very posh places. I only seem to see paper roses (and general flowers) in cellophane fronted packs! You is posh!

Aw I’m so happy that you like it Ruthie. Thank you so much for coming and having a coffee with me and for leaving such a wonderful comment.

I keep telling Mr.Cobs here that one day I’m going to visit the USA, taking with me just a few pairs of unders, three t.shirts and a pair of jeans …. and leave the rest of the suitcase empty so that I can fill it up with crafting goodies and bring them back home to play with.

This is one of my bucket list dreams. 😀

          One day. One day, sometime.

Aw Beverly, we are alike in so many ways. I cannot for the life of me keep houseplants. I try. I really do try. But I either don’t water them enough, or I drown them. I don’t mean to kill them … I try to keep them alive. Sadly, I’m a failure.

BUT … I redeem myself with garden plants. My favourite thing to do is buy those plants at the garden centre which are on the ‘hospital’ table … and bring them back to life.
I can do that! I don’t know how or why and I made up my mind a long time ago not to question it.

I’ve brought many beautiful plants back to life, by caring for them tenderly, and they survive and thrive. But I have no idea why I can’t keep house plants alive. My theory is … that they don’t like me. :/
      lol.
Will look forward to seeing your real rose.

Now I’ve gotten myself in a mess. Trying to sale some of my SU stamps and after considerable trouble getting pictures on the Destatsh sight people are hitting left and right and I am so confused . Pray of all this to end.

        1. Beverly … my biggest tip for selling over the internet: Only sell a few things at a time, and in the adverts actually say that you have more things to list, so people should keep coming back to see if you’ve got chance to take the photo’s and loaded them, resized them and get them posted.
Then as one thing sells, and you parcel it up to post, add another item to your sales to replace it.

I can’t list lots of things at once as I fear getting muddled, and sending the wrong thing to the wrong person. So I took my own advice and now only list a few at a time. It works!

But you’re FAR more clever than I, so you just do it the way you feel comfortable.

  7. As usual an amazing and beautiful project. Think it does us all good to have a rummage around our stock, as I believe you become a hoarder as soon as you become a paper-crafter, it’s part of the M.O., I’m convinced! I was born Miss Neat & Tidy, until I became a paper-crafter, now it’s Mrs Neat, Tidy and oh look there’s a space that I can fill with even more crafting items!!! Hugs 🙂 x

    1. I think in my case, it’s because I’ve been a crafter for so many years now (full on for about 25 years, but I began in my early teens), and I will craft with a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g.
I was upcycling before anyone had heard of it.

A consequence of this is that I have ‘stuff’ and bits and pieces which are left-overs from projects which I’ve saved and I come across them now and again and they call to me to do something with them.

I’ve already planned my next give-away, and just have to find a quiet time to sit and do a little crafting to make it ready to post.

BUT … at the moment, I’m trying to get round all the blogs and posts I’ve missed because of health issues … so expect me to turn up on your blog very soon Miss Kim! 🙂

I’m just thrilled to pieces that you like the blackboard. Thank you so much Kim for coming, and for leaving such a lovely comment for me.

  8. That is so adorable! I never realized you had the equivalent of our Dollar Generals over there! I love those stores……..they contain all the stuff I did not know I needed till I saw it. (Chicken Grandad gets a little concerned when he sees me heading into one). I am not sure why he does as stuff only costs a dollar!

    1. Mr.Cobs groans too. I can find all sorts of little gems which – like you – I never knew I needed until I saw them.

We have various ‘pound’ shops here, but I think that Poundland is probably the biggest chain and the one everyone knows.
      http://www.poundland.co.uk/
      But there are others:
      https://www.poundshop.com/
      https://www.onlinepoundstore.co.uk/

I’m waiting for a Craft Pound Shop. Ahhh… I’d visit that sort of shop VERY regularly. lol

Coooo…. I would SO like one of those stores. Seriously. Not joking. Can you imagine how crafters would storm a pound/dollar store which was all about craft? It would be headline news on Fox, CNN, and the good old BBC here would dedicate a whole hour to the ‘event’. LOL. (Black Friday would have nothing on us crafters!) ~ C. xxx

[ahhh… sigh. (sings) Heaven, I’m in Heaven, and my hearts beats so that I can hardly speak …. when I’m dreaming of a pound craft shop up the street …. and I’m dancing my way there to buy stuff cheap!]

              Ohhhh, if only.

              Dear God,
              hello, it’s me again.
I’ve been chatting with my good friend Chicken about a pound shop for Crafters, and I was wondering if perhaps . . . you might make a suggestion in a rich man/womans ear so that this wonderous thing could occur?
              Thank you.
