Happy Mothers Day!

I couldn’t post this until today because I had to make sure that the surprise wasn’t spoiled.  I don’t think anyone would have shown my gorgeous Mother in Law a picture of her card,   but … well I felt it would have been kind of a bad luck thing to have posted it before today.

Cards which I’d embellished to within an inch of their lives and worked for hours on over a period of days, had gone missing in the post before now, so I decided that I would make a pretty, ladylike card this time, but I’d make it so that it slipped into a regular envelope, as I thought that maybe I would be in with a chance of it getting there.  And …  we had a text message from my lovely sister-in-law (Mr.Cobs sister)  letting us know that the card had arrived.  WHOO HOO!

Taking photo’s of this card were nigh on impossible.  I made it so that it had a ‘see through’ front, made from Acetate.  So I tried various things in the hope of getting a decent photo which would show that see through bit.  I failed miserably.

What you have here are a selection of photos which are pretty rubbish but they’re the best I had out of about 20 photos.

To make the card:  I removed a section from the front of a scored and folded 6×6 and replaced it with the acetate.  I then fussy cut into some papers for the top and bottom of the card front, and added some more fussy cut roses and leaves for the ‘spine’ edge.  Added a sentiment to the front, and then turned my attention to the inside.

The inside is actually a large die cut central section, which you can take out and use on the card by itself, but I so liked it as it was that I fixed it in place using strips of double-sided tape, and then trimmed it to size and adhered it to the inside.

I was so happy with this card when it was finished as it looked so pretty and I knew my much-loved mother-in-law would like it as it was a little bit different – having the see through front.

As a gift to make her smile and say Thank You for being such a wonderful Mother, we’ve sent her an arrangement of pretty cottagey type flowers, all yellows and lemons and greens, which we arranged to be delivered today, Sunday 26th March ~  which is Mothering Sunday, here in the United Kingdom.   The colours of the floral arrangement were so cheerful and bright that they made me smile, so I knew they’d make her smile too.

Although I know that Mothering Sunday happens on different days in different parts of the world, it’s Mothers Day here, so to all of the Mothers around the world, I wish you a very happy, warm and loved up Sunday.

To those who aren’t Mothers, through choice or circumstance, I wish you too a happy, warm and much loved up day.

And… just because it’s Mothers day …  we have:  Jokes!

A mother mouse and a baby mouse are walking along when suddenly a cat attacks them. The mother mouse shouts “BARK!” and the cat runs away. “See?” the mother mouse says to her baby. “Now do you see why it’s important to learn a foreign language?”

Son: “Mom can I get twenty bucks”   . . .
Mom: Does it look like I am made of money?  . . .
Son:  “Well isn’t that what M.O.M stands for?”

A: Cause it listens to its motherboard.

Q: Why did the cookie cry?

A: You spend too much time on the web.

And finally …
here’s a card idea that I know would have made my mom laugh like a drain … so … this one is both for my Mom,
and for your amusement.  😀

Have a truly lovely Sunday, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing.  Stay safe,  play nicely,  and …  be good to each other.

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

Happy Mother’s Day to you too!

Yes, we say the Happy **** Day (Birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Anniversary etc etc)
Thank you for your lovely words, and for coming and sharing a coffee with me.

  1. Brilliant card and bonus jokes. Thru go some way to compensate for the fact Mother’s day falls on clock change weekend and therefore we get an hour less in bed! Have a beautiful day x x

    1. I KNOW!!! HOW RUDE IS THAT?! How dare they co-exist next to each other. Don’t they know the importance of Mums across the land staying in bed for a bit of a rest? What a cheek making them happen on the same day. (I don’t think that’s ever happened before … at least I don’t remember it).

Thrilled you like the card … and the gift of the jokes. LOL.

  2. Just perfect. Love the rose paper and the clear front. Your MIL will be blessed. Oh >>>I hate “clock change”. We had ours a week or so back and it takes me forever to readjust then it’s time to go back and do it all over again. My DIL loves it ,but I really don’t think it is needed. Farms go from sun up til sun down anyway.
Where do you get all of these jokes? think the mouse one is pretty cute. But then they all are pretty cute.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words regarding the card, Beverly. I really liked this one. My only wish is that I could be made into a better photographer. But then . . . you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear – as the saying goes. lol

Putting the clocks back and forward . . . like you, it takes me forever to adjust, and I agree . . . I don’t think it’s needed anymore either – whatever excuse they come up with for doing it. tsk tsk

Glad you got a chuckle out of the jokes. I thought a couple of smiles wouldn’t go amiss today. We need to help people to smile again, for there is so much to fear … and it doesn’t help us feel positive. So perhaps a few smiles passed around would joy up the whole world, – eventually.

      Have a happy Sunday Bev.

                1. You need to get one of those special covers which they have in hospitals, over their keyboards. They stop any Germs (or Gerbs – as they’ve been known in our family since Daughter No.2 was little and desribed them as that) getting to the keyboard, and spreading themselves around.

You could try Amazon … I don’t think Tesco will have them. 😉

I think the Germ Warfare Office needs to be alerted!

Actually … thinking about it … maybe they could capture some of those germs and spread them, via a plane, over those nasty people who are determined to cause stress and strife to us lovely people.
                      NOW THERE’S A PLAN!!

  3. Our special day for our Mum’s in not until May and I wish mine were still with us. I miss her every day. She will have been gone 12 years this July. Can’t believe that much time has gone by already.
Lovely cards, so pretty, very spring like. I’m sure your mum in law smiled when she saw this one! I am so glad that our mum’s never left us in a basket somewhere too. 😉 That is a good one.
We are in the rain again, drizzly gray skies and sprinkles are coming down. The dirt just can’t absorb any more water. Mud and dead grass. I will have nothing but moss and dandelions for a lawn. 🙂 Aw well, could be worse I guess.
Have a lovely evening and a great week.

    1. Hello Soozy, so lovely to see you. ❤

Yes, Mothers day is a special day, but I kind of feel lost and alone on Mothers Day, since my mother passed on, 13 years ago.

On the day I lost her, I told my husband that I'd never felt so lost and alone in my whole life. I was an orphan. And I still feel like that today.

I know I have my beautiful hearted mother-in-law, but I don't have a Mum of my own to give flowers, chocolates, gifts to .. and that pain is such a lonely pain.

Time passes quickly doesn't it. You must miss your mum very much Soozy, and I can relate to all those feelings you're feeling.

      You have rain AGAIN???
Y'know …I've always said that God doesn't tell me when to water my garden, so I'm not going to tell him when to water his. However … I'm starting to wonder if perhaps God may have forgotten that he left the sprinkler on where you are, and He's gone off to do something else. Uh ohhhh!

Ah, when the water stops, your grass will revive and things will green up again, … then you'll be having a tough time mowing the thing! LOL.

Have a truly beautiful Sunday my fabulous blogging friend.

      1. Yes, I know exactly what you mean about the feeling of being alone, and yes, an orphan and it doesn’t matter how old you are, the pain is real and big, especially if your mum was also one of your best friends. We did a lot of things together and had a lot of laughs. I miss being able to call her and tell her about a great day or whatever it may have been. I do wish heaven had visiting hours!
My Dad and I were great pals too, he taught me so very much and I was always watching him and asking questions about what and why he was doing things. 🙂 I am 58 this year and yes some days I still want my Mummy. I can smile now when I think of her.
I also like the way you described the rain 🙂 That sprinkler had better get shut off tho’ or we will be boating 🙂 lol
Nice talking to you as usual.

    1. Car Clocks!!!!! hmpfttt!
I gave up trying to work out how to change the time on my cars clock, because the book which came with this car is a gazillion pages long, and I have to practically donate two pints of blood for it to give up the information which tells me how to do it … which … once I’ve done it I promptly forget how I did it. [sigh] I’m such a dope!

Thrilled you like the card Mrs. P. and yes, she really is. I love her to pieces and don’t ever want to lose her. (So I’m putting a name tag around her neck just in case she wanders off anywhere. lol)

If she has any designs on running away, I’m going to take her to my vet and have her chipped. I’m having none of that ‘running away with a young man’ malarky here, let me tell you!

  5. Lovely card Cobs. I hate Mother’s Day. There’s nothing any different that happens at my house so I guess I’m a little bit jealous of those who are made to feel special and appreciated. All I got was, “What’s for dinner?” I’m trying to learn that resentment kills and forgiveness heals. I also use the day to remind myself of the barren, the abused, the orphan, the rejected and the bereaved. I guess it’s some kinda consolation. I hope you have a fantastic time being spoiled and loved-up – you deserve it xx

    Like

    1. Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that your role as a mum isn’t recognised in your home. Is there a reason for this? Religious or otherwise.?

As for me being spoiled and loved-up by my girls … well, that’s really not something which happens anymore.

Our children grow up, have families of their own and they get so wrapped up in their own lives and so have little time to do some of the other things, or even forget the subtle niceties they were perhaps brought up to observe.

I think that Facebook, Email, and Text Messages in some way are to blame for they have removed those lovely things which perhaps you remember doing for your mum, and I remember doing for my mum, and that my mum did for her mother, – . . . buying a card, writing something lovely inside it, and either posting it or taking it to their mothers.

Instead of a card and flowers, it’s now a text a message, or email … or in some cases not anything at all, because, inside their heads, maybe that was something they did when they were little toddlers and that they don’t ‘need’ to do now.

It’s such a sadness – for mothers every where – as you are experiencing.

Grown up children can’t see that a text message can’t be squirrelled away in that special box where mum keeps her visual memory aids. (I have one and it’s filled with cards and little bits of ‘silly and daft’, things which I treasure with all my heart, simply because my girls gave them to me and they warm my heart when I open the box to look at them and I’m guessing that some other mums might have a special box too)

A photo in an email does nothing to help someone feel appreciated or loved. So I think it’s of major importance that children are taught about Mothers Day, Fathers Day … Grandparents Day even.
Although, of course, respect has to be earned, it needs also to be given, to be shown as existing, along with a huge amount of love too, perhaps in an acknowledgement that being a parent is probably the most difficult of ‘jobs’.

But, you and I are perhaps the old fashioned parents, in a new fangled internet age. Everything is done at the speed of light, with little effort and without any genuine feeling behind it. It’s a sad fact of the day, I’m afraid.

For my own personal ‘loved up’ today … Mr.Cobs, bless his beautiful heart, popped to the shop to get the newspapers … and came home with some really pretty tulips. Now that’s my sort of guy! (I think I’ll keep him! lol)

So -from one mother to another … please take this heartfelt wish and sentiment as your acknowledgement on this day, Mothers Day 2017 …

Happy Mothers day Mom, Sharon. I acknowledge the difficult task you accomplish 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, every day, day in day out. Even when you’re ill and know that you’re SO poorly that you perhaps feel you need to be taken to hospital, you don’t ever get the day off from being a Mom.

I recognise this about you, and please know that I know how brave you are. I see how tired and stressed you get when you don’t know the answers to the questions. And how heavy your heart gets some days when there is a problem, and you are carrying so much mental weight around that this new problem feels like the last straw which broke the camels back.

And … I salute you. I salute you for continuing when others surely would have caved under the pressure.
But … you know what’s made from pressure? Diamonds. Diamonds are made under pressure, … and strong oaks are made because of the storms they’ve stood up in.

May God Bless and keep you Sharon.
You’re a mum and you’re doing a great job. But no … you can’t have a day off, because it’s not that type of ‘job’.

Sending you my very best wishes for a peace filled day. And one filled with the love you feel in the room.

      1. That’s really sweet Cobs, thanks. I was just feeling sorry for myself and something else external triggered it but I can’t remember what. I know I am loved and appreciated but yes I did have expectations that were not met which were exaggerated when a few friends said, “What are you doing this afternoon?” and “Did you get breakfast in bed?” We compare ourselves to others but are then in denial of doing so. I know I was guilty of doing this, otherwise I would not have been so hurt. It’s my biggie birthday tomorrow and I know I will be made to feel special and even if things don’t pan out as I secretly wish, I know I have a God who loves me so very, very much. Have a blessed day Cobs and thanks again for your kind sweet words. xx

        1. Ohhh Sharon. you’ve put yourself through such a trial. But with that trial you’ve managed to negotiate the rocks and cross the river to the other side in order to get back to yourself again.

Negotiating rocks and obsticles which are put in our way are there in order to learn, and you have. You’ve come back to yourself and found what it was that you needed to learn, or know.

Life can be a difficult journey sometimes, and I learned some time ago to actually enjoy the difficulties for I looked on them as a ‘challenge’ which brought out the fighter in me. (not a boxer or wrestler lol).

I would (mentally) put on my Armour of God, then stride out to meet the challenge and over-come it.

Never compare yourself to others Sharon, for you are unique. There is no one else in the whole world who could take your place. No one is the same as you. So why, when you’re unique, do you want to be like someone else, for that would mean that you were a sheep and following a pack of sheep – you’d be lost in a sea of sheep!
          Stay unique Sharon.
Don’t compare yourself to anyone else for that’s not what you should be doing. If you want to change things – then let it be for YOU, and let it be that you become better at YOU rather than change your design to be like someone else.

People like you for who you are, not who you think you might like to be instead.
Don’t you change a hair on your head … unless you want to go a different colour or want your hair short for summer.

          You, just be YOU.

          Change of subject ….

          HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow!
I wish you a lovely weather day. Maybe time out in the garden while Little Miss is at school.
May you wake up in a lovely mood.
May Mr.Sharon have a birthday card for you which he gives you at some point during the day.
And … who cares if no one has arranged a birthday surprise for you … ARRANGE ONE YOURSELF!

Since this is going to be a BIG birthday …. why don’t you make a childrens party happen, so that you can be a child again.

Jelly. Ice-cream, little sandwiches, small freshly cooked (frozen from iceland if you like) sausage rolls. A selection of party type food which I know Iceland normally do … or Tesco sometimes do.

OR .. if you look on Sainsburys website at your local Sainsbury …. they do some Party Platters. Now it says that they need a few days notice for them… but when I phoned my local Sainsbury a couple of months ago and asked if it was possible to do five party platters which I’d chosen with just a couple of days notice – they told me ”no problem”. They made them, I collected them and paid at the tills.

You have a little party Sharon. You deserve one. Just organise it yourself.

Then when Mr.Sharon smiles about how lovely the table looks … say: “I kind of hoped that you and LIttle Miss would organise something like this, but I knew you probably wouldn’t, so I did it myself this year. But … let’s hope you do it next year, eh?”
Say it with a big twinkly smile.
He’ll get the message then! lol.

I remember seeing our cottage for the last time. I wandered through the home we’d lived in for 30 years and ‘it’ (the cottage) felt sad. It was as if it was having a bout of the miseries, and I could feel it.

I told it I loved it and I always would, and I had tons of photographs of it over the years, and a ton of photos of it after we got it ready for sale … we ‘de-personalised’ it, but it was ultra spick and span.

In fact, it looked so lovely at that point, we wanted to buy it ourselves! LOLOLOL.

This is our lake cabin. We bought it before Little Bit was born and the summer I was pregnant, I sat on the couch there with feet up and swollen ankles. Love those memories.

I love that your place looked so lovely you wanted to buy it yourselves. Why is it that we work so hard to make our homes nicer for someone else? I wonder who made that up. Ha.
