One of my fabulous blogging friends, Paper Puff, told me on the 10th of Feb – in a chat we had via the comments on one of my blog posts – about her lovely mum who had broken her ankle.
The next day Paper Puff published a post on her blog in which she told all her lovely followers about why she’d been M.I.A, and about her moms accident, and also told us all about the little matter regarding her Ninja cat (that’s not his name, that’s his skill level – read her post and you’ll see).
You can find her post here: “Broken bones, real and imagined. And a ninja cat” .. it will open in another window.
After hearing about her moms accident I asked if perhaps I could send her mum a card wishing her well, just to make her smile. It was all arranged, and I made a card, then sent it to P.Puff so that she could hand it over to Mrs.Puff Snr.
And this … is the card I made:-
How do you say I hope your broken ankle heals soon? Well that question gave me a real moment of puzzlement. Then as quick as a flash, I KNEW what I needed to do.
Now … where to get big enough cutters to cut a leg off Barbie?
I tried. I really did try. I took the cutters and offered them up to Barbie’s leg. I think it was about 4 times I did this. I even managed to press on the handles just once. Enough to see the ‘skin’ on her leg ‘bend’ under the pressure of being pressed. But I failed.
Mr.Cobs was summoned, and he arrived in the craft room with the most amazing BIG BOY TOOL. An ENORMOUS pair of wire cutters. SURGICAL Wire Cutters!
We donned our surgical gowns, and put on our face masks, then I, as the dutiful nurse on duty, marked the patients leg to show where the cut had to be made. The Senior Surgeon took his Big Boy Tool in his hands and ….. with one smooth, scissor like motion …. he amputated the lower limb of the patient in one clean-cut.
She didn’t feel a thing. Totally oblivious to the whole procedure. Although mind, she was seen having rather too many pink cocktails with Ken earlier, so she was more than likely under the affluence of incohol. (constantly in the grip of the grape from what I’ve heard from some sources!)
On Duty Nurse, Cobs, made bandages, wrapped the broken ankle in a bandage, then covered it in ‘plaster’, and added more bandages where required.
Obviously the patient had to have a few flowers, so paper ones were made – because, it must be remembered, this card was being sent to Mrs.PaperPuff Snr. – so Paper flowers were a major requirement! 😀
A little sentiment of Get Well wishes was added to the inside of the card, then finally … the card had to have a box! You couldn’t send a broken ankle in an envelope after all. A box was of great importance….
. . . . and that’s all there was to it. A card for a lady, which held a giggle and a laugh, and also a wish of health returning soon … and keeping it feminine and lady-like too!
I love quirky cards. (just in case you hadn’t noticed. lol) They bring such an element of fun and lots of smiles for the receiver, and I find them so pleasurable to make. Maybe it’s because I’m quirky. Or maybe it’s just that I’m as mad as my two girls have always told me I am. lol. Bless them. ❤
Hoping the card made you smile too, and also hoping that your Sunday is peaceful, warm, and that you know you are loved. Even if it’s only by me. You ARE loved.
Oh, and regarding the title of this post . . . I’m a CARD-iologist …. an Orthopedist is a doctor that specializes in the treatment of bones and muscles, joints, nerves, ligaments and tendons. 😀
Thanks for coming and sharing a coffee moment with me. Don’t go breaking a leg now!
Breaking news ……. If i say so myself……it’s a cut above the rest Mrs C xx

LOL…. B … for ‘boobs’.
ummmm… unless of course someone has a boob enhancement, then I’ll make a congratulations card out of those.
Barbie will then be known as: Miss Tangled Hair.
Unnnnnless of course .. someone has new hair fitted on their bald head … then she’ll have to be known as Baldy.
Ohh… B for short! See … we come full circle.
😀

LOL … hello dear Soozy! 🙂
There are rules and laws against operating on a Barbie who is d.r.u.n.k.??? I didn’t know that.
Will I be sent to Barbie prison? [gasp. horror!]
Who did Barbie belong to?
I cannot divulge this information as I’m under the UnOfficial Secrets Act and if I told you the answer, then there would be dire consequences!
eeeek!

Ah she’s made of strong stuff, just like us. She’s now fashioned herself a crutch out of some bamboo skewers and scrap felt, which she found in my sewing cupboard, where she is now making her home.
She’s a crafter extraordinaire! lol
Glad you like the card Mrs.Craft. 😀 xxx

Hello lovely Beverly!
I’m looking forward to spring arriving. Storm Doris has flattened all of my daffodils – and some were open and looking upward, smiling at me and saying Hello, like they do … with lots of excitement and bobbing about as if they’ve got their legs crossed and desperate for the loo! LOL They’re all now lay on the ground and I feel so sorry for them.
We now have a follow up storm … more high winds and rain. This one is chasing after Doris, and it’s called Ewan. (no, unusually for me, I didn’t make that up. It really is called Storm Ewan. It is pronounced YOO-un.). I’m pinning my hopes on it missing us as I don’t want anymore damage in my garden.
Thrilled you like the card. It was such a lot of fun to make.
Oh … and less of the ‘ole’ …. you cheeky monkey! You’re never too big or old to be put over my knee young lady!

What a wonderful card and sentiment! Poor Barbie, so lucky to have a private health team to take such wonderful care of her (maybe you ought to send her to rehab)! Question: I usually send my bulky cards in a jiffy bag, but how do you send yours without getting the box crushed Mrs C? The only way I can think to do it, is by using strong card board on the inside of the box sides x

Hello Kim.
Thanks for coming, and delighted that you like the card.
Poor Barbie? … She’s having the time of her life living in my sewing cupboard. She’s already made herself a new wardrobe of clothes and is now working out if she could squeeze a new Mercedes into the cupboard with her. tsk tsk. That gal has such expensive tastes!
lol
Sending boxed cards through the post … yup, that can be a tricky one.
The answer depends on how decorated the top of the box is; … How decorated the card is; … and … how delicate those decorations are.
You can double box a card – one box inside another – putting packing stuff between each of the boxes – eg … a layer of packing peanuts, the card box, another layer of packing peanuts – making sure that all the sides are filled with peanuts so that the card box is ‘buffered’ from any bangs – such as dropping on the floor. (Or you can use packaging paper, or even tissue etc etc).
You can use polystyrene sheets.
Or .. you could use sheet styrofoam – that stuff which is like plastic foam.
Or bubble wrap.
Maybe Corrugated Cardboard.
Or those bags of air which fill spaces. and drape themselves around things.
Or a jiffy bag .. you know that method. 😉
It all comes down to what you’re wrapping, how much it’s worth in value against how much you wish to spend on sending it.
With postal charges now so bloomin’ high, it’s already a costly exercise to send even so much as an empty envelope. So bear in mind the amount of weight and the sheer size of what you’re sending is going to be once you’ve wrapped it. Because not only does it go on weight here in the UK, but once it’s weighed, it’s then measured, and if it goes above the size of a hair from your head, you’ll need a second mortgage!
…. at least, it feels like that. lol.
Very good luck in finding the right thing for what you’re posting Kim.
Thanks for coming. ~ Cobs.

Thanks Cobs. I usually just use a jiffy, and any delicate item on the front, I use a thick card ring round it to stop the crush. When posting boxes, which is rare, I do double box. Part of my job is packing & sending so quite agree about cost and we just been politely told it’s going up again end of March! Can’t you just tell it’s been privatized. Thanks for the advise….oh and evict Barbie….she’s a nuisance tenant, you could do so much with that space 😜 👍 x

Evict her? But … what if I need her other leg… or an arm? LOLOL.
Yes I heard about the price rise. I’m livid. I so wish that it could go back to how it once was. Postmen then had such a pride in their job and themselves. Now no one cares one way or the other – except when it hits them in the pocket.
I SO wish we could go back to how it used to be. We all knew exactly where we were back then. We could take a jolly good guesstimate of how much a parcel would cost back then, and within a few pennies, we’d more often than not, be right.
Now … it’s anyones guess.

LOL!!!!! You and Mr. C are some amazing surgeons.
I do have a question……is Barbie going to be getting a peg leg and an eye patch anytime soon? I can just hear her saying “Ahoy Matey!”
I just had to show the card to Chicken Grandad and he just started to laugh (kind of snickering through his nose kind of laugh) I am not sure……he might have been concerned there were more women like his wife???? Or maybe he was just getting the visual image of you and Mr. C. whacking that poor drunken Barbie’s leg off.
The card is one of the funniest I have seen in a long time!

Well .. Barbie (Bar for short … I wonder how she got that version of her name? huh. lol) .. Bar is now living in my sewing cupboard where there are fat quarters, felt, Tupperware boxes;each containing all the colours of the rainbow in sewing threads, along with needles, dressmaking scissors, knitting needles, wools and all manner of other bits and pieces, and she’s turning out to be rather crafty.
She’s already made herself a crutch using bamboo sticks cut to size, a nub of a little pencil, and scraps of felt for the comfort under the arm.
She’s hand stitched herself a whole new wardrobe of clothes and even made herself a crown and announced to the world that she is the Queen of Bars … So she’s doing ok for herself.
I don’t think we’ll be hearing her say “Ahoy Matey” any time soon. Not until she’s signed up to AA and is sober enough to say the words clearly. The nearest thing she gets to that is: “ellooo boyzzzz”.
lol
I’m chuffed to pieces that you like the card, but thrilled beyond thrilled that I made you laugh. You’d have probably laughed a whole lot more had you seen me attempting to be the ‘surgeon’. Sheesh! I’m just not the kind of child who cuts legs off even sloshed Barbies! eeeeek! LOL. 😀
Love you ooodles Chicken. xxx

“The Lady from England?”?? He just doesn’t know me, does he Chicken? … I’m just a girl. 😀 … aged around seven and three quarters, and when I grow up my mummy says I’ll be a proper little madam!
And she was right! LOL
Aw … my body grew up, and parts of my brain grew up, but there is this small inner child that we all have living within us… and I let my inner child out to play whenever she likes. She’s my rascal. 🙂

aww I’m so glad you got a chuckle out of this fun card made for Mrs. Puff Snr. who’s broken her ankle.
It tickled the heck out of me as I was making it, and all the time, throughout the making, I was actually talking to the ‘leg’ and also to dearest donor, Barbie, who, frankly, was soooo sozzled that she just laughed her way through it. lololol.
Thanks for coming Ruthie … love seeing you and sharing a few coffee moments with you.

Sorry I missed this – been a bit hectic. But anyhoo, just to say that the card looks even better ‘in the flesh’ so to speak. Plus, mum ABSOLUTELY loves it! Boy did it make her laugh! Also, just to say, from Kim’s question, that it arrived totally unscathed, so your packaging method is a success. And of course, if you were to go to Barbie jail, it would be plastic, and pink, and probably have resident kittens or something. But if you were unhappy there I promise to come and break you out (can’t resist). I think a picnic plastic knife will do the job…Thanks again Cobs!

Aw I’m so, so glad that she got a smile or two out of the card.
A card that she’ll likely remember for quite some time, and dine out on it on the odd occasion too! LOL
As for missing this post … don’t you dare say sorry! tsk tsk. You have an awful lot on your plate at the moment so I know that you’re not around for too much playtime here.
A plastic picnic knife can work wonders. It’s got me out of many a ‘situation’! And yours being pink will put the stamp of authority on it. PURRFECT!
erm … if there is to be a kitten … could I please have a seal point? Thank youuuuu! xxx

Hello lovely Hannah!
LOL … glad you like the card and got some smiles from it.
A regular ‘get well soon’ card just didn’t seem to fit properly somehow. I wanted to have some fun, and make PaperPuffs mum smile – but not just smile. I hoped to give her that moment of an inward HA! when she opened the box and saw the card.
I think, from what P.Puff tells me, that it happened. Which I’m thrilled about.
Hope you and yours are all fine and groovy and life is treating you kindly.
