Buzzy little Bumble Bees!

I saw a magazine on the supermarket shelves and fell in love with the Bee themed ‘freebies’ which were being given away with the issue.  I got home and, over a coffee, I flicked through the pages, and found a few pages of ideas for what you could make with the papers.  I fell totally in love with one card, and knew that I’d make it at some stage, because it was just too lovely not too.

Last week gave me the perfect moment.  I needed to make a ‘Thank You’ card and thought the bee themed card I’d found in the magazine would be perfect,  and so, changing some of the papers, and adding my own sentiment,  I made my version of the card.

In the magazine the maker had used some black corrugated card  for backing the main central picture.  I had no black corrugated card.  I had red, blue, yellow, pink, kraft brown, green, orange  ….  practically a whole rainbow … but no black.  “I’ll just use black card” I said to myself.  But …  I really loved that corrugated look.  So …  I did the next best thing….

I pulled out a sheet of the yellow corrugated, drew up the measurement I needed in pencil, and, taking a (cheapy) permanent marker pen, I began to turn that yellow card into black card.  I chose yellow in case any of my colouring was a bit uneven, it would at least look like it was meant to look like that (can we say ‘distressed’?) – as it would tone with the yellows on the card.  See … I do think ahead sometimes!  lol.

By the time I’d filled the square, I’d emptied that penThankfully I had another, because I needed to colour up four Candi dots for the corners!

I added ribbon,  … and I like my ribbon more than I liked the ribbon in the magazine.  My ribbon has flowers on it!  (Much posher! lol)  Then fixed everything in place.

In the magazine they’d used a very pale shade of lemon paper as backing paper – but I preferred something a little warmer.  So chose a lovely, yummy yellow which looked like it had gently kissed the orange paint pot.

For the sentiment, I inked up some plain white card, then using a stencil and two ink pads – a shade of warm yellow and a pale burnt orange, –  I gently inked through the stencil to make a honeycomb pattern over the card.  I then stamped the ‘Thank You’ sentiment and cut it using a die, and backed it with some plain black card.

I added the four Candi dots;  a ribbon bow at the top of the card;  the sentiment;  and finally added some bees which I’d cut from some of the printed cardstock.

Then I turned my attention to the inside.  I’m not that keen on blank insides, and always try to put something in a card which adds to the whole thing in some way.  I chose a decorative die and using some black card die cut it and fixed it in place with glue.  VOILA!  One thank you card for my wonderful neighbour.

Thank YOU for popping in for a visit!

Well …..  today is the last Monday of January 2017!   We made it through the first month of the year!  Give yourself a mental cheer!  February will be a doddle because its way shorter than any other month – so it’ll a walk in the park.  Yes?  🙂

Have a truly wonderful week.  May nothing stop you from making good choices.  May you carry an inner warmth which, every time you think about it, makes you smile.  May you share a joke or a smile with another person.  And may you do something which helps to change someone elses day around.  Make someone feel better about themselves.  Smile at a stranger.  Pay someone a compliment.  Just be nice to people.  Everyone you meet really does have something which troubles them.  They need help to smile sometimes, and maybe this week it will be your turn to help them.  Give them a reason to smile.

Here ….  here is my chance to make you smileThis squidge is a visible squidge,  from me, direct to you,  because I think you’re truly amazing . . . .

a-bear-heart

. . . .   sending you a warm fuzzy hug and a heartfelt squidge,  from me sat here to you sat there.

…  Be good to each other.   ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

    1. Hello Chicken!
aww.. ..it’s always, always such an instant smile when I see your name here. Love it … and you.

The colouring of the corrugated …. I felt like such a cheat – but to be honest … I actually don’t think I’ve ever seen it in black! It must exist, but I don’t know where. lol

    1. Hello Samantha, great to see you!
Like you, I too love Bumble Bees. They’re so sort of friendly looking, and when they visit our house, I’m really careful about helping them to get back outside again to enjoy the sunshine and collect their pollen.

Wasps, however …. are left for Mr.Cobs to deal with .. before a cat or the dog try to catch them. :/

Happy Monday to you to Samantha!

      1. My son aspires to keeping bees…although I would prefer it if he left home first! However, Bumble bees are cute and furry…wasps seem to have anger management problems and are to be avoided at all costs! :)xx

        1. Hello Samantha!
WASPS!!! Oh My Goodness! You’ve summed them up exactly. MAJOR Anger Management problems! Recklace and spiteful little *uggers!
I’m with you all the way. (So is Mr.Cobs. He turns into a monster with a fly swat (which I fondly call The Squat) and will see a wasp off quicker than it expected.

Me … I can’t kill things but wasps scare me. They’ve stung one of my cats on the paw before, and she ended up with a HUGE paw for 24 hours – and we worried terribly about her. Poor baby. The dog .. being the dope she is, snaps at wasps – which just annoys the heck out of them and I’m there in the midst of it all having a panic in case they sting her. {sigh – useless!} lol

          1. Yes Lily’s been stung and her poor little foot swelled up enormously-I couldn’t find the sting but she was really good and let me hold her foot under the cold tap to soothe it.
My mother is actually allergic to bee and wasp stings, and apparently this can be an inherited trait…I’ve never actually been stung by either a bee or a wasp…I treat them with the greatest respect so I wouldn’t know and I really hope I don’t find out!
            Lots of love :)xx

      1. Have you heard this one:

A wasp expert walks into a record shop and asks the assistant:

“Do you have ‘European Vespidae accoustics’? Volume 2…it was released this week on vinyl?”

“Certainly” replies the assistant, somewhat taken aback. Anxious this a prank or a mistake, he follows it up with: “Would you like to listen to this before you buy it…?” and offers the expert a pair of headphones

The expert puts the headphones on. A minute later, he calls the assistant back.

“I am a expert on European wasps and this is not accurtae at all! Are you sure this is the correct recording?”

Flustered, the assistant checks the turntable, and relays that it is indeed European Vespidae accoustics (Volume 2) the assistant apologies and lifts the needle onto the next track.

Two minutes later and the expert is fuming with rage. storming up to the counter he demands an explanation from the assistant

“This is unforgivable! No European wasp ever made a sound like this. This is false advertising!”

“I am terribly sorry, sir replies the assistant, mortified and motioning for his manager. The Manager arrives and has the expert conveys his concerns regarding the recording. Looking at the turntable, he immediately realises the problem:

“Many apologies sir- it appears we have been playing you the bee side”.

    1. Hello Mrs. P! Aw it’s so so lovely to see you.
I’m actually ‘LOL’ … at the Bees Knees. Bless your beautiful heart.

The card is for my lovely neighbours next door. They’ve been so kind and so lovely. They’ve popped around to share produce from their veg plot every now and again, and enquiring about how I was, etc, and then last week Mrs. Neighbour came bearing a home made lemon drizzle cake to cheer me up – which was just wonderful and … the kindness made me cry. (I’m such a huge blubber baby). So I wanted to say thank you properly – and this card was the way I wanted to do it.

I know that she likes my cards, so I’m hoping that this one makes the grade.

Thanks for coming and spending time to chat. It means the world.

    1. Hello Kim, fabulous to see you!
      Laughing at the fuzzy buzzy.
Your right of course, the card is more summery – but such a much needed warm smile during these cold days – so I thought ‘who cares what the weatherman says … I’m doing summer!” … so I did. 🙂

Really great to see you Kim. Thank you so much for coming and having a chat. Very much appreciated. Bless you.

  4. I do love bees and would love to one day have a hive. I know nothing about rearing bees, but also could ask any beekeeper out there if they would like to put a hive in my yard? We do need out bees, without them, we die, well everything would die. Sorry didn’t mean to be a debbie downer there. Thanks for sharing a wonderful card and your process for making it.
I have a bad cold so I am off to make some Ginger tea 😉 Have a lovely day!!!

    1. Aww Soozy, I’m so sorry to hear about your rotten cold.

I too would love a hive of bees, but like you know nothing about how to keep them. So instead, I make sure my garden is filled with flowers which attract the fabulous bumblies, and I get to enjoy them visiting throughout the summer that way.

They LOVE the lavender I have growing along the border of my garden and it’s such a joy to see all the lavender come alive as each bumble bee searches for a flower which hasn’t been relieved of its pollen. Someone somewhere is having the most wonderful lavender honey! I hope they enjoy it.

Sending soothing gentle squidges and hoping that your ginger tea works miracles!
Lovely to see you Soozy, thank you so much for coming for a visit. ~ Cobs. x

      1. I too have planted many herbs and flowers that bees love and also there are a ton of blackberry bushes behind me with no one tends to, so they are loaded with berries and bees, but sometimes it’s the wasps that come! Thank you Cobs for the soothing gentle squidges I felt them from here. 🙂
        hugz to you and Mr.
