BOO! . . . I’m Hare!

Now I’m not here to show off or brag …  no,actually I’m going to be the biggest show off in the class, so just bear with me and let me be the leader in todays Show and Tell as I stand at the front of the class, with me Hare tucked under me arm . . .

This, is Heathcliff. . .

hare-1
Heathcliff  the  Hare.

I won him!  Yes I honestly, truthfully, cross my heart, really, really did!  This is quite an exciting occurrence for me because I never win anything.

There was a programme on Create and Craft last week, and I had the TV on while I was in my craftroom.  I glanced up at the TV and was enthralled by two fabulous ladies, Stephanie and Mary, who make the most adorable crochet and felted animals.  From Foxes to tiny birds;  needle felted baubles to embroidery designs, ALL made in Britain, and all in kit form which come with the instructions so that you can make them.  (link to their website coming up…)…

hare-2

Those of you who know me well, know I can’t crochet.  But … I do needle felt.  I love to sit during the cold Autumn and Winter evenings and needle felt little things. (I also have a needle felting machine and I’m waiting to produce my masterpiece on that …  any day now.  [yeah right!]).  So those beautiful animals (kits) which were shown on Create and Craft really caught my attention.

I heard the presenter of the programme say to email into the show to go into the ‘cup of chance’ to win something which the ladies had made …  so I did.   But I knew I wouldn’t be picked out so I didn’t think about it after I’d pressed ‘send’.

hare-3

The programme ended all too soon.  I wanted it to go on for another hour!  And then the Cup of Chance was brought in …  a hand went into a whole bundle of printed out emails, and suddenly I heard my name being called out!  I shot out of my chair like someone had pressed the  EJECT!  button.  I hooted and yelled  “Oh!  I WON?!  I WON!  I WON!“.  My hands clapped to my cheeks and my eyes wide as dinner plates.  I honestly couldn’t believe it.  I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

A large box arrived at the end of last week, and I opened it carefully,  all the time holding my breath with excitement.  Out came the white paper packaging.  And there, nestled inside was something wrapped in pink tissue,  and a beautiful card (the card with the two little birds on it, in the photos), hand written and signed by both of the girls I’d seen on the Create and Craft show Stephanie and Mary.  He’s absolutely BEAUTIFUL!  And such a tall chap too.  I’ve measured him (because I knew you’d want to know) and he’s roughly around 12″ tall and I love him to pieces.  It’s taken me a few days to finally decide upon his name, but Heathcliff seemed the right one, and when I suggested it to him he ‘tried it on for size’ and, with a nod of his head, a shake of his ears, a smile, and a wee kick of his heels, I knew we’d found the right name for him.  So Heathcliff it is.

hare-1
Heathcliff, my wonderful Hare from Hawthorn Handmade.

I just had to share him with you,  excitement made me want to bring him to my blog and show him to you, and show all of you to him too!  At the moment he’s living on my dressing table, but to be honest, I really do want to have him in my craft room … so I know that he’ll be making his way there within the next day or two.

If you want to take a wander around Hawthorn Handmade click here, and that link will open up in a new tab for you.  You can have a look at all their different kits by clicking on the ‘SHOP’ tab along the top of the home page.

Just so you know . . .  Other than winning Heathcliff,  my Hare, I have no connection with Hawthorn Handmade. I do not sell for them, or work for them, neither am I recommending them or promoting them in order to garner any payment of monies or goods.  But I shall be forever thankful to them for giving me the chance to win Heathcliff.

Right then … now it’s time for … HAPPY TUESDAY!  I like Tuesdays.  They’re not Mondays – who want to be Sunday.  Tuesdays aren’t Wednesdays – who want to be Friday.  Tuesdays are definitely not Thursdays – because they too want to be Friday, but they can’t because they need to keep Wednesday from racing along and Friday from getting giddy too quickly.  Of course Saturdays and Sundays are the weekend, so they can’t be counted in the same way as they are somewhat of a moveable feast in so far they can be for anything, anyone and lots of difference occasions.  So yes, I like Tuesday.  Tuesday doesn’t want to be anything it isn’t.  It likes being Tuesday.  And as far as I’m concerned, that’s perfect, and a good example to us all.  Let’s all try to be like Tuesdays, shall we?

Have an incredible day.  Let’s do it to them before they do it to us!  (Be kind that is).

Sending heaps of love from my corner to yours ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Your Heathcliff is absolutely adorable. I am so excited for you on winning the prize. It puts me in mind of “the Christmas Story” where the guy wins the leg lamp……only Heathcliff is waaaay better.

    1. [nodding enthusiastically] I wish I could have taken better photos … he’s far more handsome in real life, and those ears … ohhhhh they’re so wonderful to hold in your hand! His chest (the creamy white bit) is actually felted, so it has a totally different texture and look to the rest of his beautiful body.

I’d never heard this Leg Lamp Christmas Story before and so went and asked Mr. Google. Now either it’s something that has never made it out of the USA, or I’m a total numbskull. But it looked like a funny story from what Google offered me. 🙂

        1. [nods] …. I went and read a bigger story about it and loved the whole thing. Such fun!
The piece I read also gave some of the background story to the making of the filming … and there were some funny parts about that too. A great read. ~ Cobs. x

  2. Well done, what a lovely prize! Tuesdays are normally good for me as they are my day off but today I am working. Never mind, I’m sure the rest of Tuesday will be fun, who doesn’t love a trip to Aldi with a 2 year old in tow? Have a lovely day. 😊

    1. Hello Mrs.Craft, aw, lovely to see you.
Thank you. Yes Heathcliff is an absolute joy. Everytime I look at him I get this sort of fizzing inside as a little giggle builds up inside me and the fizzing get’s more and more ticklish as it tries to force itself up and out into the world. It’s a great feeling.

You have to go to Aldi with a two year old? :/
Aw … now if you have another grown up with you who will push the trolley with the child sitting in it, and entertain the little one while you are left free to shop … then it’s normally a grand shopping experience. But … alone … noot quite so much fun. LOL
I hate to tell you … it get’s worse. I used to LOVE shopping with Little Cobs (grandson) but since he’s hit 5 it’s like his mother has plugged him into the National Grid (high-voltage electric power network in Great Britain), because he’s WIRED when we pick him up to take him shopping with us!

I’ll be thinking of you … and sending love and calming vibes so that you are chilled, and the little one is going to be so laid back you’ll think it’s a different child. 🙂

      1. Plans changed, hubby has the car with kiddy seats in so no shopping. But the 2 year old is making me ‘cups of tea’ with her play kitchen. I quite fancy a kitchen where tea comes our of the tap

Let me know if you get one of those, cause I’ll come round and we’ll sit all day drinking tea and coffee, talking craft and having a happy time!
(this sounds like a plan to me!)lol

    1. *snuffle, snuffle. sniff. snuffle*
(Heathcliff, please don’t do that, you’ll get snot all over the microphone. Just talk into the microphone and let them hear your beautiful, refined British accent.)

[Heathcliff coughs gently and clears throat]
Good day to you Miss Salpal and thank you so much for your kind welcome. Mrs Cobs seems deightful and I was very thankful that she chose such an agreeable name as my moniker. ‘Heathcliff’. It sounds like the place a hare lives and the places they visit. A perfect name for a chap like my good self.

As for adventures .. well I’m still getting over the journey to get here. Being popped into pink tissue and then inside a box – was a little disconcerting, but I am a stoic Hare and can endure such things without complaint and keeping my British stiff upper lip. But… I am rather looking forward to some adventures in her Executive Art Annexe. She has told me over and over (the woman does like to ensure she’s made her point, I’ll give her that), that I’m not to cause chaos. Problem is, with feet like mine, chaos seems to be the thing that happens. But I’ll try my very best.
It’s been lovely to meet you Miss Salpal.
      Kindest regards ~ Heathcliff.

    1. I know!!! I KNOW!! WHO WOULD BELIEVE THAT I WOULD WIN A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G – LET ALONE THIS WONDERful, fabulous, incredible, beautiful chap here who’s now sat on the table next to me, with his head titled slightly to one side and who is smiling at me.

He really is a hunk. I couldn’t show how tall or hunky, and firm bodied he is in photos – but then, everyone knows I’m useless at photography. lol
We are both extremely happy in each others company, and you’ll never guess what . . . I talk Hare! Who knew! I understand every word he says, and I think my friend would approve because he’s incredibly p.o.s.h. He has a voice very like the wonderful, British Actor, Terry Thomas. (you can remind yourself of his voice here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-oNspXk4Boor be introduced to him if you haven’t heard of him before – Once you’ve heard that YouTube video, you’ll then know exactly how Heathcliff talks and sounds.) 🙂

I’ll be introducing Mr.Heathcliff to your NC and K9 at some point… but I’ll let him get settled in before I garner him some friends.

      1. As you perhaps know I have rather a soft spot for rabbits / hares and I see Heathcliff is right at home in your company, I bet he couldn’t believe his luck at finding his forever home in a cottage by the sea

        1. I absolutely totally adore this Hare! I never dreamed that I’d receive something so magical. So INCREDIBLE! I thought I’d perhaps receive a little thing like a little felted animal – or something like that. So I was totally blown away and choking back tears when I unpacked him from his box of safety.

I’m so so filled with thanks and gratitude. I wanted to blog about him, and then drop a note to the ladies to thank them, and I’ll give them a link to the blog page so that they can get a feel for the person with whom Heathcliff has found his forever home.

          You’d love him P. Totally. He’s so squidgeable. ❤

    1. Ohhh Beverly how sweet of you.
I will admit that somewhere at the back of my brain, there is this little thought about writing a book for little ones, but the doubting Thomas who lives in a corner puts me off starting.

I’m just happy to entertain you Beverly. So long as you get a smile along the way, then I’m cockerhoop.

  4. Lucky you. Well done! Heathcliff is lovely. Cobs you mention you have a felting machine. Is that one that looks like a sewing machine with lots of needles. I have always wanted one but was put off in case I needed to change the needles all of the time. Really because of where I live and getting hold of replacements. If, you do have one of these machines, I would love to know how you get on with it and do you think it was a good buy. I wouldn’t hold you to anything but would love a honest critic.

    1. Hello Flo.
Yes, my Felting Machine is exactly like that. Looks to all intents and purposes like a sewing machine but with lots of needles and a big flat-bed (which is removable). You use absolutely no thread either. Just you, your fibres or fabric and the machine.

I first tried needle felting with a machine when I did a workshop of free hand embroidering on a sewing machine. The wonderful lady who was teaching the class (what this woman didn’t know could be written on the back of a postage stamp), touched on needle felting and I got to have a go on her machine in the room. I was hooked from that moment.

You can felt more than just wool. All types of fabrics .. natural and synthetic fibers, and include things which you might normally have thrown away, such as those off cuts of ribbon when you tie a bow, or bits of shiny thread from embellishing. Netting is useful because you can make what I call magic pockets – by taking a square of net (the type you use in cardmaking is ideal) and pop a few things under the net, then felt around the edges and encase those things inside the ‘pocket’ but no one can work out how you did it! lol

BUT … obtaining the needles for Simplicity Felting Machines is a pain in the rear end here in the UK because they (Simplicity) no longer (at the moment) sell any felting machines in the UK, so they don’t stock any needles over here.

I do wonder if it’s maybe because they’re about to launch a new, all singing and all dancing machine onto the market. Perhaps one which looks more ‘entertaining’, with maybe some swirls and patterning actually on the machine itself, because at the moment, I have to admit, the machine looks kind of industrial and not like it’s anything to do with crafty. So making it a little more attractive would be nice. But this is just me thinking out loud so don’t take that as what’s really going to happen.

Right .. needles … I’ve been pretty lucky with my needles and haven’t yet broken one in my machine. (although now that I’ve said that it’s going to be the kiss of d.e.a.t.h! lol). I’ve broken LOTS of needles from hand felting with needles – so I’m not that lucky.

But I tell you what … let me do some research here in the UK and I’ll see what I can find out about needles – not just for you, because at some stage I’m going to need more needles now I’ve put a hex on the ones I’ve got. And once I know something I’ll get straight back to you and share the information I’ve got. I don’t want to recommend a machine that you can’t get supplies for, but … if the supplies are easily obtainable, I would actually say BUY a machine. They’re fun, and .. if you mess around for a while and get some confidence, the sky really is the limit. I’ve seen some of the most magnificent bags made purely on a felting machine – and they’re on sale for rather a lot of money too! They look SO designer and professional. (And there’s not one stitch sewn into them either!)

Let me do some research and I’ll report back. Promise.
