Making ANYTHING for Mr. Cobs has always been a logistical nightmare. He’s got a sixth sense when something is going on which relates to him. A cake. A meal. A gift. A plan. A surprise, etc etc. But making a card for him probably the worst because he pops in and out of the Craft Room all the time. He comes to bring me a surprise ice cream from the ice cream man. To bring me a coffee. To collect empty coffee cups. To look for the dog, or one of our cats. He’ll come bearing any packages which might have arrived for me, or even to tell me something funny which he’s read in the newspaper, heard on the radio, seen, or thought of.
I love him dropping in. Except .. when I’m trying to make him a card. I rarely make cards for him as I find it just too difficult to work on one in secret. But I managed this time, Yay!
In my panic about him creeping up behind me, (always a nightmare at anytime) I forgot to take photographs of each step, but I did remember at around the ‘quarter into it’ mark, so at least have one ‘in the middle making photo’ to share :
It’s meant to represent his shed. A total mess, and no rhyme or reason to it … but he seems to know what’s there, and I guess that’s all that matters. (Doesn’t stop me from wanting to get in there and label everything and put them all in some sort of understandable order though! lol).
Anyhoo …
The card was made using Card-io Stamps, – and the notes saying ‘Happy Birthday’ were made on the computer (I wanted to use a particular font, in the right size – so stamps wouldn’t do it … but stamps could be used), liquid pearls (for the drips of paint and the paint drips on the pots) and Anita’s 3D Clear Gloss. The stamp pads I used were by Memento and Papermania, dye ink pads.
Each of the little pinned notes were first curled up a little at the bottom, then glued to the card front. The two different types of bulldog clips were then stamped into place – in oder to ‘anchor’ the notes to the wriggly (hand drawn) string which stretches across the card – again these bulldog clips are Card-io Stamps. And the cupboard (with opening doors!) was again made using Cardio Stamps, and a bit of careful cutting with a scalpel and metal rule.
And that’s all there was to it!

I love this card and all the little touches but have to defend myself. Yes my shed is packed tightly with useful manly stuff and tools, and to the untrained eye is a jumbled mess but I can find things.
On the other hand Mrs Cobs ‘Executive Art Annexe’ has a myriad or drawers, cupboards and shelves but there never seems to be enough storage and I’ve lost count of the times I get a call saying “I know I’ve got one of these but can’t find it; Can Yoooo Help?”.
At times that craft room resembles a small craft shop after someone has ransacked it looking for treasure.

Dearest one, – aka ‘Big M’ – I’m thrilled you liked your card and all its little touches 🙂 ’cause I made it specially for you. ❤
But this: "my shed is packed tightly with useful manly stuff and tools” is absolutely nowhere near an adequate description for that wooden glory hole where no man can tread – because no man, woman or child can squeeze themselves into it as it’s SO over packed with ‘stuff’. It’s filled with empty boxes, bits of left over wood which you can’t part with because they might come in useful one day. Old drills which no longer work, It practcally bulges like beer barrel and I fear that one day it’s going to explode with a BANG!
Readers, I keep offering to buy him a brand new shed but he refuses to have a new one! (I admit that my offer isn’t entirely altruistic, I’d like something a bit prettier to look at in the garden)
As for my CRAFT ROOM – I told him years ago: “Give a Crafter space and she’ll fill it” – and I’ve proven that time and time again. 😉
And .. I naturally only call for his help when I’m lonely and need to see him for a squidge. See? It’s all because I love him. 🙂
Oh … and the “ransacked look” – well I can’t help that. I make a bit of a mess, I do! But I clean my desk(s) up after each crafting session, – but – I only make a mess on the floor because I know how much he likes to vacuum it. Again it’s all done ’cause I love him, of course! … even though he’s officially over the hill as from today … and I am ohhh sooo much younger than him. [snigger] 🙂

Ohh, Soozyb I know the struggle. Thankfully when we moved house, I had the magnificent blessing of a converted garage which I now have as my craftroom, and I love it to pieces.

*nodding in acknowledgement* Ohh, I’m glad that he’s not the only one who does this. I’ve tried my best to get him to clear the darn thing out, but although he will drag everything out of this [obviously a] Tardis [in hiding], he will begrudgingly part company with one, possibly two items, and then he puts it all back in it again. [shakes head, smiling] Bless him. Gotta love him! I love him to pieces. One of my best ‘finds’ in life.

Y’know .. since I typed that a few minutes ago, I’ve been thinking along those lines – only I took my thoughts one step further. I worked out how I’d time it to go somewhere that all this c”ap could be taken and stored, so that the shed had more room to move, and then I could at least put up pretty curtains and decorate it outside with something pretty – like bunting and maybe a little table an chairs outside it. (I already got him to paint the exterior in a beautiful warm duck egg blue – and that was an instant improvement. So if I could go the extra mile with it, I know I could live with it longer.)
So now the plan is to work on Himself so that I can get this dream going in the right direction!

Chuffed to pieces that you like the card.
Th stamping of the bulldog clips was the very last thing I did on the card but you don’t need to sweat over Cardio stamps – especially the really small ones, like the bulldog clips, if you have the clear stamping pegs which you load the stamp onto and then, once it’s inked up, you look down (through) the pegs (imagine chubby crystal poles) and you get a clear view of where you want to place your stamp. Ta dah! Done.
I gave Mr. Cobs your Birthday greting and he said to say “Thank you Mrs. Craft!” 🙂

Thank you for the tips, I shall bravely venture into the craft room later on and give it a whirl. I have acrylic blocks but not stamp pegs (unless they are the same thing!) Thanks again for the tips and the brew. 😊 x

Pegs and acrylic block are different, but kind of work the same because you can see through them.
(If you still have problems ‘placing’ an image in the right place, stand up and stamp that way. You’ll be able to look over and straight through, in line, instead of having a very slight angle – which you get when you’re sat down).

Mr. Happy because Mrs. Cobs bought him a brand new X-Box One, plus the Call of Duty Black Ops lll, said to say that he thanks you warmly for your feliciations and says he’s having a perfectly spiffing time.
(He’s kind of sitting up/laying down – watching Men in Black 3 on the TV and getting over eating too much. He kind of views eating as a contest type of sport and has a desire to beat everyone else at it.
(you need to see the size of his tummy right now. He looks like he’s swallowed a space hopper. lol)

Well who’s a spoilt Mr Cobs then! Only wish mine would even step near a computer, but he too is an Olympic Athlete at eating. I’m sure he has hollow legs, in fact absolutely positive, as he has a small tummy but size 12/13 feet, so I’m convinced the food goes to his feet! Glad you had a spiffing day. Hugs Kim x

Mr. Cobs mother used to say to him (before I took him off her hands) “GET OUT OF THAT FRIDGE! You’re going to get frostbite on your moustache the way you carry on!“. And the same thing is as true now as it was then. He can eat his meal, and a pudding, and then … he’ll still return to the kitchen and pop his head into the fridge to see if there’s anything else he might like to fill any little holes he has left. tsk tsk. LOL

The card is absolutely perfect! I really understand the dilemma of being married to a man who has a shed full of “stuff”. My husband has a hard time tossing “stuff” out as it will “surely be needed down the road”. I am never sure what road he thinks we will be traveling when this random treasure will be needed…….

You live the same fuddled bewilderment with Mr. Chicken as I have with Mr.Cobs. ‘It might come in useful at some point’ world.
Where the heck we’re going to be when we need that short length of 2″x 1″ … or that slightly bent bit of planking … or even that collection of empty boxes!
But … we wouldn’t change ’em for the world, would we?
I tell Mr. Cobs that I wouldn’t change him because I couldn’t go through all of that man-puppy training again. LOL

And the very sad truth is there will be that one in a million time when they can use that short piece of 2″x 1″ and then we will never ever hear the end of that as it will be recorded in the annals of history to be brought up over and over when we beg them to get rid of stuff. Ahhhhhh…….yes I would also not want to start training anyone else. He has grown on me over the years and I would not change him!

I have the same scenario whenever I try making something as a surprise for hubby…or if there generally is just something I don’t want him to know about at the moment…he ALWAYS shows up/creeps up behind me! Never fails! lol!
My father had a basement like that…he saved everything. Guess that’s where I get it from with my crafting room…I’ve done many different crafts over the years and of course, one has to buy/accumulate the necessities for it…

These husbands are like children… they know when something is going on which might involve them in some way, and, like heat seeking missiles, they follow their noses and … WHAM … a surprise can be blown up!
Where-as … when I get that feeling that something is going on, I simply ask: “What are you up to?” and the minute I get the answer of “Nothing”, I know for sure that something is going on, because if there really was nothing to concern me going on, then I’d get an answer which explained things. i.e. ‘I’m just cutting a bit of wood for that xyz’ or .. ‘I’m just getting the garden vacuum out to clean the porch and around the front of the house of all those leaves’.
“Nothing” means ‘something, but I’m not telling you‘.
(Having brought up our two girls, I absolutely trust my instincts – and lessons learned. lol)

Quite sure sheds are supposed to be a mess 😉 My husbands shed is a tip and he has no idea what is in there but seeing as I never venture into it I’ll let him keep it a that way! My craft space however is never messy…………lol Hannah x

I love the way of hanging a birthday sentiment suing bulldog stamps, very creative and adds a nice depth to the card. I also think the opening cupboard is great as i love interactive cards.
