I made a Pinboard Card for someone a couple of years ago and made it really personal to them. I resized some photographs and made them small enough to ‘pin’ to the pinboard, along with a few other bits and pieces, so that the whole card was themed especially for this person.
I’ve been thinking about that card recently and remembering how much I loved it when it was finished, and wishing that I’d taken a photograph of it at the time, (as usual, I forgot), so I thought I’d make another Pinboard card, only this time I’d make it for anyone. I’d make it in such a way that it could eventually be personalised by adding small photos or a note of love or … well – anything really!
This is a really easy card to make, so easy in fact that I can just give you photo’s with a few details … you’ll see how easy .…
All my favourite brads are all by Kuretake (and I have a fair old selection of them too!).
I used to live a short distance away from the Kuretake head office and every year they would have one day set aside for crafters to visit them and buy from a large selection of their products all priced at a slightly reduced price. Ohhhh they were the best ever days! The people there are SO nice, truly amazing people, full of advice and help. Nothing is too much trouble and I can honestly say that because of these days I love the Kuretake Company. And because of these wonderful days, I have rather a lot of Kuretake products – from specialist pens to embellishments to … brads!, and I love them all.
Aaanyway .. back to the card…. Once you’ve fixed your brads/buttons in place, you can then add your embellishments.
- If the person you’re sending the card to is poorly, then you could add a ‘fake’ little prescription and make a mini box of tablets to fix to the board.
- Or if someone is having a baby .. you could add paper booties (or tiny real knitted ones) and hang them on the board using a button.
- Getting Married? Put a miniature card on the pin board, of their wedding invitation .. simply scan their invite and then resize it on your computer, print it out and VOILA!
- Engaged
- Anniversary
- … or anything. (apart from sad occasions – this really wouldn’t work for those days)
Such an easy card to make and such a versatile design. You just choose the right colour(s) and personalise it and *there* is the perfect card!
Well now it’s time for a weather report from our new weather girl Cobs:-
…. as I’m typing this I’m melting like the witch in the Wizard of Oz, who had the water thrown over her. The weather here is too hot, very humid, very steamy (and not in a good way), and very sticky. It’s the sort of weather that makes you want to get in the shower two minutes after you’ve stepped out of it. It’s so blooming tiring too! I was going to share the temperature with you, but I’m too worn out to walk out to the decking and check the thermometer. tsk tsk! (Is that lazy, old, or just heat affected? Actually, thinking about it, it’s probably all three!)
I’ve had a word with God (“Hello God, it’s me again” . . . is the way I usually start off and He doesn’t seem to mind me being so informal) … and I’ve asked if He could please turn down the Heavenly thermostat which is labelled ‘Earth’, and so I’m hoping that things will be cooler tomorrow.

It really is a simple card to make. It just looks complicated.
I forgot to say in the post … make sure you have enough of your chosen ribbon before you start. But you don’t have to use ribbon, you could use string or even butchers twine.

Hi you little Chickadee. Thank you for all your comments on my blog lately. I wondered where you’d wandered off to. I bought a Cricut Air last week…not for cards or scrapbooking, but rather to cut stencils for Jelli printing fabric and collages. Have you tried this? You should. With your talents, you’d be inventing new techniques and projects in no time. What I love most about your creations are their femininity. I look at your art and feel like I’m in a big downy bed. Can only imagine how sweet your house is.

I’ve had some health problems (which are still on-going, but the medical folks are trying to work out what’s going wrong), and my internet has been totally pants. (‘pants’ over here = cool word for rubbish. I use it to show I’m down with the kids. However my hair colour shows entirely the opposite. lol)
Circut Air .. no I don’t have one and I fear looking too long at it because then I’ll waaaaant one with a longing that can’t be denied but I just don’t have an available space for it in my craft room. I need a BIGGER craft room darn it! But then … give a crafter a space and she’ll(he’ll) fill it quicker than a click of the fingers.

My house … well I moved here 4.5(ish) years ago and although it’s a lovely little place to look at and I have put my stamp on it, painting, refurbished kitchen and bathroom, new inset spots in the kitchen, hall, bathroom and porch; even had the dog-awful stucco removed from the ceilings and new beautifully flat skim applied once the stucco had been banished. (plus a whole load of other stuff) Both the outside and the inside look nothing like the cottage looked before we moved, even from outside it looks like ‘me’. But I’m getting that itchy feeling of ‘maybe it’s time to repaint the living room/lounge again’. But.. I haven’t told Mr. C yet. I don’t want to give him thoughts on how easy his life would be if he sought a divorce. lol.

Have you ever done a post on the basics ~ please read that as … OK I want to try making a card / stamping, I’ve bought some stamps, an ink pad & even some die cut thingy’s and then realising I have the skill set of a 4 yr old …had a tantrum, put said goodies away only to retrieve them every now and again to stroke them, sigh deeply ~ repeat from tantrum to deep sighing on a regular basis

Ohh Mrs P., bless you. Although I’ve been crafting for donkeys years I’m honestly not an ‘expert’, but I’d be chuffed to little bits to help you get over that fear you have going on there. (And that’s all it is. Bit like being scared of the dark when you were little!)
I haven’t done a post starting with the basics but I have wondered if I should do something like that so that anyone just thinking of beginning crafting would have something to help them on the way with the first steps.
I have a little wriggly feeling inside that you might like a particular type of stamps, a type which will get you crafting up a storm in no time and you won’t want to stop stamping then. So I’ll put together a card over the next few days and take photographs of each step. I have tried to video a couple of things before now, but I’m even more rubbish at video’s than I am at photography! So photographs it is, and I’ll do detailed ‘show and tell’ session in the hope of helping you and anyone else to get over that first moment of fear about making a mess.
It will take me a few days to get it all together – crafting when I can, photographs then working out which are the best and clearest photographs, re-sizing them, watermarking them and then loading them onto the blog … but I will do it and I promise that by this time next week, the post will be yours.

I’m really happy to help other crafters in any way I can. I try to encourage people to ask if there’s anything that I might be able to help with, because I remember only too well how difficult it was to get crafty help when I began. Some (not all, but a hefty amount at that time) crafters guarded their craft knowledge like it were the secret to finding the Ark of the Covenant. From that time on, I vowed I’d never do that to another crafter. If someone wanted help and I could give it, then I absolutely would and will.
Oh, and it wasn’t a crafting elf who’s trying to pilfer your supplies .. it’s me trying to steal Oscar. lol.
Keep cool in this humid, too hot heat . . . and have a beautiful, memory making day.

The wonderful thing about the crafting blogging community is the willingness to share..time, information, and guidance, I have made the acquaintance of some wonderfully talented folks through WordPress.
The mysteries of crochet has had the veil lifted, cross stitch has been pursued all because of following fellow bloggers, even Gelfling Grandson has got in on the act guest writing now & again which has seen his reading skills improve.
Looking forward to this evenings walk with K9 when the temperature drops a little… if indeed it does LOL

As for your declaration that you are ‘no expert’ I’m not sure if the sunshine has addled your thinking … but I wish to disagree in the strongest terms possible!!! I’ve been pouring over your blog posts with emotions ranging from astonishment to pure respect, I do believe one of my crafting elf’s has been weaving a little magic & pulled you into my orbit …of course she might just have been distracting me in order to pilfer a few of my supplies …

What a lovely idea for a card, and so versatile. You clever thing you. Oh yes Cobs, my little lad Will and I have been melting in the office, and without a doubt the air con was powered into life! When I got in the car to come home, it was a staggering 35 degrees! I just want to ask where is the best place to buy the brads? I was bought the smaller Crop A Dile and I love it, but obviously limited, but it came with some eyelets and I have used them quite a lot, but whenever I look for them, I can never seem to find any good ones. Any ideas my crafty friend? Keep cool. Hugs Kim x

The weather/heat!: It was a little more comfortable here today (thank you Lord for hearing my request), but … it’s gone rather humid and uncomfortable this evening, and I’ve just heard on the news/weather, that it’s going to get even more humid during the night. We have ceiling fans and smaller desk top type fans so those help. We do have an air cooler – which is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. but it’s a bit of a noise maker so not something which is terribly good for sleeping.
Now to the important stuff: BRADS … I sadly don’t live near the Kuretake head office anymore (such a sadness to me) or I’d offer to get you a selection at their next ‘day’ and send them. However .. I’ve found Kuretake brads on Ebay before now so you could take a peep there. BUT .. there are none at the moment, however, I’ve just looked for a seller with a selection of brads and found this person, who has a nice selection, although some have already sold out, but what she/he has left are still rather nice:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Branded-BRADS-Multi-listing-Making-Memories-K-CO-ATB-Bo-Bunny-Various-Shapes-/201521708517?var=&hash=item2eeba13de5:m:mABCNvqicmxmUd2tc-Iyv7A
If you don’t shop on ebay, then The Range have some nice ones. I recently bought some pearl brads, some brass moustaches, and some gem brads from them, and they weren’t too pricey either.
Amazon are also a fabulous source of the ‘can’t find crafting stuff‘. If you want things which are only (currently) available in the USA then I can highly recommend BicWarehouse. (they also sell on ebay under that name too). I’ve had very good service from them and all the times I’ve ordered they’ve never charged postage (from the USA!). The downside is that you have to wait for stuff to get through customs, so you might be waiting for anything between 10 – 21 days. But have faith. If something doesn’t arrive they’re contactable and will help. (I wrote to them when I hadn’t received something after 19 days as I was worried, and the parcel turned up in the next post!)
Amazon have some Memory Keepers eyelets – so they will fit your Crop-a-Dile, but you can get eyelets from lots of places – from the regular Hobbycraft shop, and even … B&Q! Yes the local DIY place has them, and although they sell them pretty cheaply for the chaps who need eyelets for … actually what do men use eyelets for? .. but they won’t question when you go to the till with a bundle. You could even take your Crop-a-Dile with you to make sure you get the right size which you’re looking for! They’re normally only in silver copper and gold colours – but you can either enamel them, or embossing powder them or … use nail varnish on them. But make sure you leave them to dry for a good while before you use them. Nail varnish dries quickly on the surface but it’s still liquidy under that ‘skin’. So leave it over-night before you use the brads you’ve nail varnished.
For any new crafters who haven’t met brads and eyelets before …
Eyelets are metal doughnut/donut type things with holes in them – you punch a hole in your paper and then put a right sized eyelet into the hole and then using a pressure ‘machine’, press down on the eyelet to make sure that the hole can’t rip or tear.
Brads on the other hand are those things which have a top (in offices they have gold domed tops) and hidden under the top are two little metals legs. Those legs go through the punched out hole, then open up on the other side and flatten against the paper, so that they are secure and can’t fall out.

I totally agree with you about BIC Warehouse, they are my go to place for hard to find things, but I could buy the shop, so I try to only go there when I need to! I do use Ebay and I shall have a scout around and see what’s about, I get so frustrated with not having enough time to do these things, still only 13 years till i’m 67, then I can retire (if they don’t change it again!). Personally I think they had a darn cheek changing it at all. Instead of changing it, they should have had a ‘get out’ clause for those who didn’t want to retire, so that they could go on with their jobs. I think pulling the rug from under peoples feet was wrong, wrong, wrong.
When I’m Prime Minister that will be one of the first laws I change. Along with making a law that states if something doesn’t scan at the cashiers till on the 3rd try, then you get the item for free.
Then I’d slap bar codes on house sales and purchases. I bet they get that little annoyance sorted out toot sweet! lol.
