A great big Thank You – from a big friendly giant!

1 BFG DoCrafts card pack

Morning/afternoon/evening –  all you lovely readers!  (And those who don’t feel that lovely but really are very lovely indeed!)

I’m here and I’m still crafting … but I’ve had to back track on a project. [insert sad face here].  My much-loved Grandson began his new ‘big school’ this week, and the teacher had given all these little ones (on their visit to the new school a couple of months ago), a little bucket, which she asked them to fill with ‘stuff’ related to things that happened during the summer weeks before they started school.

My daughter (his mummy) doesn’t get out as much as she’d like to, due to a medical problem which can keep her not exactly house bound, but it doesn’t allow her the sort of freedom to come and go as much as you and I have and so I guessed that filling the bucket might be somewhat of a problem.  So because of this I came up with the idea of making a little book/album and fill it with photo’s and mementoes of things that my Grandson did with us, his Grammy and Grandad, in the summer before big school. (Grammy and Grandad memories added to Mummy and Daddy memories would make up a selection of great memories for my Grandson to share at school).   And making & recording memories is what’s been keeping me busy for the last few weeks.  I’ve had tons of little things to do with this much-loved Grand-baby of mine (yes, I know he’s not ‘mine’, I have to share him with Mr. Cobs, and his Mummy and Daddy, and his other Grandparents, and his aunty and cousins ….and… and … on and on!,  but when he’s with me he’s all mine).

It was a fabulous little book and I was so pleased with the way it was coming together.  I’d planned that all the memories and photographs were going to be on large tags, which slotted into pockets which I’d built inside the book.  I showed the book to my little grandson a couple of weeks ago and he loved it.  It didn’t have the pictures in it at the time, I’d kept those to one side, but just wanted to show him the book – and I had the devil of a job getting the book back off him!  He wanted to keep it and take it home.  lol.  Oh! I’ve just thought! …  I perhaps should have told you that this darling, adorable little boy, who is just four and a half years old and the most incredible little chap who’s so easy to love,  was born with Cerebral Palsy.  It has affected his walking to some extent, and also left him a little behind educationally.  His understanding is about 18 to 24 months behind children of the same age as he is.

  • I’m aware of how careful we should all be of our little ones, so instead of giving you his name, we’ll just call him little H here on the ‘net.

I’d almost finished the tag book, apart from a couple of photo’s and fixing a couple of feathers and an Oak leaf in place, when it turned out that his mommy decided that she didn’t want to use this book after all. [insert miserable face here].

I was at a loss about what to do with the tag book – it wasn’t at all big enough to use as a mini album, and I couldn’t make it bigger as the book itself was ‘made’ in full.  So after a couple of days of looking at it and trying to come up with ideas,  I decided that rather than lose the beautiful memories we’d made during the summer, I thought the best thing I could do was to de-construct it, and then build a proper mini album, and use what I had,  in a way which would make it feel like it had only ever been like it was in its new ‘form’.  So this is what’s keeping me busy and stopping me from keeping my blog up to date!  (Sorry about that.  Life!).

But … I thought I’d take this opportunity to share something I put together for this little chap (well, for his mum and daddy to be precise) – which was a Thank You card to all his nursery school teachers.

I had a Big Friendly Giant decoupage card – ‘un-constructed’ – in my stash for ages and never made it up.  And, well,  … I had a couple of days where I’d totally lost my mojo,  so I thought I’d get the mojo juices running by making up the découpage card.  Crafting something was better than just sitting there looking at my desk.

1 BFG DoCrafts card pack

All the things needed to make up one card,  came inside this    handy wallet/envelope, from the makers of DoCrafts.

2 BFG out of the packAnd this     is what it looks like when you unpack the contents of the wallet/envelope

It was easy as melting chocolate with a heat gun, to put together.  Just layer it all up.  So I did … and loved it when it was made, and just as I was popping the last element in place, the phone rang … it was my daughter on the phone.  We chatted for a while then I said that I’d made this card …..  and she said she needed a card to thank everyone at the Nursery School.  She’d got cards for the teachers who had the most to do with little H, but she wanted one bigger card for a general Thank You, to everyone.

I looked at the BFG card and had an idea.  I could turn this card into a thank you card easy peasy.  So I did.

3 BFG almost finished

If you click on this photograph  ↑  it will open up into a much bigger picture so that you can see it and all its layers.  But … it’s not quite finished, so remember to click back to see the finished article.

I cut some flag bunting using a die, in four colours of gingham card:  Biscuit;  Baby Blue, Teal Blue and Pink, and mixed up the colours so that the bunting was a combination of all four colours.   I die cut some alphabet letters to spell out the words ‘Thank You’, which I then mounted onto the flags and finally added some buttons, blue ribbon (to be the ‘book mark’) and a little card rosette with a button at the centre, for the top of the front.

4 Completed Thank You

And that, as they say, was all there was to it.  But I loved the way it turned out.  Just shows you that you can change a découpage card ‘kit’ to make it fit the occasion you want it to fit.

So … that’s me talked out, now it’s over to you.  What have you been up to?  Done anything nice that you want to share?  Been somewhere lovely?  Or just want to have a general chat?  I’m in favour of anything you want to say.  Say it in a comment below and I promise to answer.

In the mean time …  Have a truly blessed day.

Sending love ~

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. Oh, this is just adorable, Cobs! What a perfect way to thank the teachers. I’m the proud mama of a boy with CP and your post brought me back to his nursery school days. Thanks for sharing.

  2. What a story Cob…… I am feeling a little sad that what sounded like an amazing little book that little H loved will now not be used…. I guess your daughter will have had her reasons…..

Your card is wonderful, so thanks for sharing that with us.

My summer (well winter really as I was in Australia) was wonderful, I can totally relate to your story, there is nothing like being a grand parent!

    1. Astrid! 🙂 You’re home again!
I’ve been thinking about you and wondering how your holiday was going. I bet it was such a wrench to come home and leave them all in Australia.

The little book – I had a thought about that last night and am thinking that if I can keep it all intact (or make good anything which gets ‘damaged’ in the de-construction), and re-name the front, I could give it to little H to take with us on our trips and adventures, and he can then tuck any ‘treasures’ into the built in pockets of the book to keep them safe until we’re home again. He loved it so much when I showed it to him that I simply can’t just discard it. He and it belong to each other.

I agree with you heart and soul Astrid – there really isn’t anything like being a Grand parent. Totally different from being a Parent. I absolutely loved and adored our two girls, but I’m totally besotted with this little chap. It’s kind of like being intoxicated by love. A wonderfully, happy to the core feeling. Yummy! ❤ ❤ ❤

Coming over to your blog later for some catching up. Put the kettle on! 🙂
Great to have you back. Sending love ❤ ~ Cobs. x

    1. Hello Kim, Happy Thursday! 🙂
Once I’ve finished re-working everything, I will have the main book part of the original tag book still intact, so I’ll let little H have this, (I’ll just have to re-name it on the front), and maybe we can then use it, by taking it with us when we go places and find ‘treasure’, which we can tuck into the pockets to keep the treasure safe until we get home again.

Great to see you Kim! Hope you and yours are in fine health.

  3. Cobs, when you don’t blog for a while, I get anxious and excited at the same time. Anxious because I’m hoping you have not fallen ill again and excited because I know it’s more than likely that you’re working on a fantastic project!

It’s very mature and grounded of you not to be offended by the rejection of the album, especially after you worked on it so hard, but I’m sure your daughter knew you would be able to change it into another splendid item, and you did!

How marvellous! And what joy you must have had doing this for the teachers of little H.

Ive been helping Sarah compile a diary for a RSPB Wild Diary Competition. It’s full of photos of various animals, insects & plants that we stumbled across during the holidays and it was great fun. Whether she wins or not, she’s got something to keep forever which I’m pleased about.

    Thanks for your lovely post.
    Have a blessed week.

    Xx

    1. Hello Sharon, how lovely to see you.

I LOVE the sound of Sarahs diary for the RSPB Wild Diary Competition. What a fantastic way to get our younger folks engaged in an activity which is absorbing and totally free (in most cases), and also aware of the world around them, which is probably happening right there in their own back garden! (or the local park). Awww I LOVE it! Fan-bloomin-tastic! ❤

Very much luck with Sarahs entry and please … do come and let me know how she gets on. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for her.
In the meantime … Thank you for the comment. Love to chat with everyone. 🙂
Have a truly blessed rest of your day, to make a wonderful start to the rest of your week. ~ Cobs. x

    1. Aw thank you Salpal! Bless your heart.

Little H and I really enjoy each others company. He gives me chance to open the gate and let the inner child out to play …. and ohhh… how I do! When my two girls were little I didn’t mind skipping along the street with them and pulling funny faces. But with little H, the fun is MAXIMIZED. I have no qualms about talking in a silly voice, putting silly hats on, or my plastic tiara and walking around the supermarket with him announcing to everyone that I’m a Princess! I’ve worn a clowns nose, multi-coloured wig, rabbit ears, deely boppers and even a scarf totally over my head when we play hide and seek, a cowboy hat, a grizzly looking monster face etc. etc. etc. None of it seems too extreme to me – it’s all just really lovely fun and I love every minute of it. (He wears me out mind!)
      LOL
Thanks for the comment Salp. Love chatting with you.
Have a wonderful week, my blogging friend. ~ Cobs. x ❤

      1. that’s the joy of grandkids – and in my case, nieces and nephews. sadly, most of them are too big now fro craziness – or so they thin – but we still enjoy their visits. And the one little one lets us play silly games. Although, she “nearly 9” and thinks she is grown up as well. 🙂

        1. Too big for craziness??? Awww … wait until they’ve got as old as dirt – THEN they’ll know about craziness! I’ve learn’t that I stopped being crazy when I was around 13 years old … when in fact I should have continued to be crazy FOR EVER and a day. So I’m now making up for it with my Grandson, and I get daft, silly, stupid and all out dopey, crazy as much as I can. (I’ll do it until he tells me not to … and then I’ll only do it indoors where I can’t embarrass him. lol 😉

Love you oodles Salpal. ~ Cobs. x

    1. Aww hello Beverly. Thank you so much for you message, it made me feel so warm inside. I’ve had some health problems which have been a bit of a trial, and also a family matter with regard to a much loved relative, which left me feeling really rather miserable. In the end something ‘had to give’ and one of those things was my blog. But I’m getting back into the groove of things and will be blogging again really soon. I’m just having a clean of my craft room and then I’ll be back! Sending love to you and hoping that all is well with you and yours. Much love ~ Cobs. xxx

  6. Cob, You aren’t going to believe this but I did “try” to reply earlier. Guess what? It didn’ t go through. lol I have been taking the online watercolor class and need to get with it and post something . Pray for me. Hope your health issues are better. Just had my 71st birthday so my mind may be slower than it used to be. lol

    1. Hi there Beverly!
I didn’t find anything so no, your reply must be out there with a Martian reading it and wondering what the heck it’s about! LOL. WOW! Online Watercolour class! I didn’t know that there was one. HOW INCREDIBLY FABULOUS, what a totally brilliant idea. Pray for you? Of course I will! You are included in my prayers always Bev.
OK.. now here’s the part where I had to pick myself up off the floor. … … ….. You just had your 71st Birthday??? Surely that has to be a typo? You cannot possibly be 71. No. I totally refuse to believe it. You made a typing error. I shall wait for you to give me the real age.
Sending you oodles of love and squishy stuff… oh, and late Birthday greetings. If I’d have known the date I would have done you a card!

I’m still trying to get my craft on. I’m sorting out all my un-mounted stamps and trying to put everything into categories – which sounded such a simple thing when I thought of doing it. However – two weeks into the task and I’m wishing I’d never started. I’m coming to the end though – mentally and physically. lol. I’ll just have to push them into the drawers pop them, in their categories, into the lovely set of drawers I’ve bought, and then I’m finished. (again – mentally and phsically). :o)
I’ll be back soon … I have no idea what the heck I’ll be sharing and showing (and telling) – but I’ll make something to rattle on about.
Love you Beverly. ~ Cobs. xxx

      1. Cob, Feb.14th??? Why am I just getting this? So much to learn about the blogging business and I am not doing very well in the learning category. Yes it is trues and counting. sometimes I wonder were the years have gone and others it is pretty obvious.
There are several online classes that some of the artist I follow offer. I’ll look up the link and get it to you. They are usually around $25. but the only one I have taken was worth it. You are so good at what you do you probably don’t need it but could surely teach. Do you know about the Butterfly Drop? Look up my blog if you have time or I can just tell you to go to http://www.butterflyeffectbethechange.com that will be the easy way since I don’t type very fast and have to backtrack all the time. Anyway…my butterfly will drop this weekend.
I really do want to get with it on this blog adventure and now that I have dropped my deal with Stampinup I feel like a free bird who just needs to jump out of the nest so to speak.
Take car and until later Love you.

        1. Oh the Butterfly Effect sounds wonderful. I love the idea of sharing my art by giving it away to someone I don’t know … and … I found out, last year (around September time) about something which has been going on since the beginning of 2006, called: Free Art Friday. It began in the UK by (I believe) an artist called My Dog Sighs (no he’s not really called that, but he goes by that name) and has spread itself around the world. Link to an easy read and a video of just a few minutes which really draws you in and explains it all: http://mic.com/articles/30569/free-art-friday-a-global-art-movement-everyone-can-appreciate#.eQ3e6Wsim … it’s a safe link, I’ve tested it.

I’ve already painted a couple of ‘art’s’, on re-cycled cans. Painted in a naive sort of way, gentle and nothing stressful, and I’m going to ‘plant’ them somewhere, but I need to get the word out about them first, so I think I’m going to have to do the thing I always said I wouldn’t … join Facebook , so that I can spread the word that it’s going to happen then post clues as to where people can find my Free Art.

So it’s kind of a little like your Butterfly Effect in so much as you share your art with strangers. Which I just love!

Aww, I wish you and I lived closer … I’ve a feeling that we’d get along swimmingly. We have a kind of way about us which works together.

I’m building a post for my blog now that I’ve finished sorting out all my unmounted stamps and filing them away in the new set of drawers, in sections which make sense. So hopefully I’ll be posting a new post in the next few days.
Sending oodles of love ~ Cobs. x
