Embrace Life; Live in the Moment ~ A Mini Album from scratch!

1 front

I’m a scrapbooker, card maker, Melt Pot Marveller; Polymer Clay player … oh! and all sorts of other things – but I’d never made a mini album before.  But …  I decided to make one for my lovely parcel delivery lady.  She’s the best delivery person I’ve ever had, and I really appreciate her for who she is; her kindness; her concern, and how brilliantly she does her job.  She goes that extra mile – and nowadays it’s difficult to find someone who does this in their job! I love her to pieces for being so wonderful.  (… and yes, I have told her this, whilst giving her a hug).

She said some weeks ago, that she’d love a card or something I’d made – “just for me.  Just for myself”.  So I put my thinking cap on and thought about what I could make for her which gave a nod to all the things I knew she liked.  I wanted something which would have a theme of travelling – she is my parcel delivery lady after all, and she does a LOT of travelling – both in her job and because her family is spread over many miles.  But I wanted an album which could be for all those things plus:  Day trips with her family.  Holidays.  Moments in the car.  Things she’s seen while she was out and about, and snapped a photo of with the camera on her phone.  The Journey of Life in general.  (it could even be about her job if she wanted it to be).

I chose the papers ‘Celebrate the Journey’, which are made by one of my favourite paper crafting & rubber stamp companies:  Heartfelt Creations and various other bits and pieces which you’ll see in the following photos.

To begin with – I had to make the pages of the album on which I could work.

Being the recycler that I am, I turned to my re-cycling box to find some stiff card which I could use to form the base for the pages.  I knew I wanted them to be firm – almost like thin wood, – but I also wanted them to be able to have a slight ‘bendibility’ to them, which would accommodate embellishments on the pages.  And this is how I made those base pages:

A

A HUUGE box of chocolates which was bought for Christmas last year.   I saved the box as I knew that it would come in handy for something at some point.  (I was right!) 😀

Took the sides of the lid and base, then cut out the sizes I needed for my pages.
Took the sides off the lid and base, then cut out the sizes I needed for my pages.
Glued some craft card to the re-cycled card, to make it rigid, then trimmed to size.

Once made, I scored down each page, to ensure that the pages all had a little 'bendability' to them, in order to accommodate any thick embellishments which I might add to the pages

Once the pages had been constructed it was time to decorate.

I’m not going to talk you through how to decorate a page because we all decorate differently,  –  so I’ll just walk with you through the pages and you can look at the finished book as if I’d handed it to you.

7 The Back

I thoroughly enjoyed making this mini albumalthough it took me a handful of weeks to complete due to poor health.  I’ve been suffering with a chronic sinus infection which has, most days, totally wiped me off my feet.  My delivery lady knew that I was making something for her, and was so patient.  She never asked once about it.  I finally got to give the album to her last weekend, and I know that she’s been waiting for me to post photographs of the album on my blog here, so that she could tell her friends to come and take a peep at it.

So a big   ‘HELLOoooo’   to all new readers and fabulous friends of my delivery lady!

I know that my delivery lady will see that some of the photographs here might be missing tiny little details which are actually on the album in real life.  This was because I added little touches to the album after I’d taken these photo’s.

Thank you SO much for stopping by and taking the time to read and have a look at the photographs.

Finally … a message to my lovely delivery lady …  I’m sorry it’s taken me a week to get these photo’s onto my blog.  I’m being invaded by germs!  eeeeeeeek!  But I got there in the end 😉

Have a truly lovely weekend everyone.  Me?  I’m too blessed to be stressed about being so poorly, so I’ll carry on carrying on!  😀

Author: The Art of Cobwebs - aka:- thecobweboriumemporium

Hello. I'm 'Cobwebs'. I live in a wee little cottage in the South of England, aptly called Cobweb Cottage. This little dwelling really is a cobweb factory. Not inside (well, occasionally) - but outside - flipping heck! This information should give you a clue as to why my blog is called The Art of Cobwebs aka: The Cobweborium Emporium. I've been arty and crafty from a very young age, and although my crafts have sometimes turned a corner and taken me in another direction, I've always crafted in some way, shape or form. One day, in the blink of an eye, life changed somewhat for me and the consequences were many. I had to find a new way of being 'artistic'. Card making; scrap-booking; producing ATC's and ACEO's; needle felting; Polymer clay; painting- but in a more relaxed style than I had before, and sewing, - are all things which I visit, as and when life allows. I've fairy recently become a Textile Artist and am enjoying this new creative outlet very much as it offers me so much scope for letting my imagination run through a grassy field and feel the wind in my hair - (mentally, of course). I love to create. To make things. I truthfully believe that the best gifts in the world are those in which you've given your time, rather than your cash. Thank you so much for visiting. Please visit my blog (link below) and have a look around. I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy, even if it's only a handful of jokes! (yes, seriously - there really are jokes!) Wishing you a truly blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs. <3

  1. What fun you’ve had! I bet there’s a fairy hidden in there somewhere, keeping her wings quiet so she doesn’t reveal herself too early.

I knew you were either poorly or up to something big. The suspense was killing me and now it’s evident that you indeed were both.

Im glad you’ve recovered to create this delightful masterpiece.

I’m running outta adjectives for you!
A good problem to have. Enjoy your weekend xx

    1. Aw, thank you, Sharon. Glad you like it.

Have to admit that I’m thoroughly fed up of being so very poorly. The consensus or feeling here is that my immune system must be very low at the present time and that’s why I seem to be getting one thing after another, after another … etc etc, and possibly why each new illness is hitting me so badly. My health isn’t my strong point, but it seems to have got so much worse over the past two years since I moved south for the … ‘healthier air’! (healthier? yeah right!)

But anyways ... thank you so much for your comment and lovely words. I’m thrilled to pieces that you liked the mini album. My delivery lady liked it – and that meant that it was worth every second of hard work! She’s such a wonderful gal, and I’m so lucky to have her as my delivery lady. God Bless her.
      And you too.

        1. Hello Paula, it’s lovely to meet you. I’ve just been over to your blog and taken a wee look at the front page – you have some fabulous layouts, a really pretty blog andI adore your beautiful logo!!

CFS – I had to Google it as I didn’t know what it was, once Mr. Google gave me the details (and I’d passed through the DOH! moment when I realised I knew what it was but I was just being dumb) I can answer no, I haven’t been checked for it, but I don’t think I fit the ‘bill of requirements’ anyhow. This thing that I had (still not quite cleared up but it’s way better than it was) was a Chronic Sinus Infection. Once this new doctor that I saw started to explain what was going on – the square peg fitted into the hole and it all made sense. I felt like I had the worst cold ever, but without the actual cold. A feeling of all stuffed up in my head, a dreadful, continual headache, and actual face ache. My face felt as if it was kind of hovering slightly off my skull – not by much, but enough to make the feeling known to me. But thankfully once the medication this new doctor prescribed began working I knew that she’d been right on the button and got the problem tied down.

But … you suffer with CFS? Aww you poor poppet. You must feel dreadful somedays. How long have you had it? Is there anything that the Doctors have done or suggested you do which is/are making things easier for you?
I’m sending prayers heaven bound asking for good health to return to you, and also sending warm hugs to you. ~ Cobs.x

Sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather…I know I went on an elimination diet this summer for a month and that cleared up a lot of my problems…food sensitivities and allergies…maybe that is something for you as well…take care…Eva(A Paper Rose Garden)

    1. How funny that you should mention the food alleries thing! I actually had begun to wonder if there was something I was either eating/drinking or even using on my face/body – (moisturiser, cosmetics, shower gel, perfume etc), which were giving me the dreadful health problems I’ve been experiencing. I made the decision that I’d wait and give the new meds that the doctor prescribed chance to work…. and … I think they are, because I can now face looking at the TV and the computer screen. Before these meds, I had a really hard time just keeping my eyes open or staying awake! (Keeping fingers crossed that they get rid of all the germs and put me back on top again!).

Thank for taking the time to leave a comment Eva. It’s very much appreciated.

  3. This is beautiful! I love the idea that the tags are an actual part of the journaling. I’d probably also use them as bookmarks. I like things to be functional as well as pretty. I was considering making a new art journal, I will be including tags in it when I get started.

I saw your reply about food allergies. My daughter had been battling gall bladder problems (self-diagnosed) and found that she was also developed a gluten and lactose sensitivity. Its funny how food can effect you. Good luck with getting rid of the germs!

    1. Hello LemonD! I’ve just been to your blog to see if I could post a comment, and YES!! 😀 Yay it’s all working! I can chat away to you again on your all improved, fabulous and shining blog now. 🙂

I’m chuffed to bits that you like the Mini Album which I made for my wonderful delivery lady. And .. like you, I too use tags as bookmarks. I LOVE to make tags: painted, glued things; bead; sew; print and decorate; I’ve even made Polymer Clay book marks. (I actually made one of those for a beautiful net friend, who lives in California, because she revealed that she used loo roll as a book mark, which just killed me when I pictured it, 😀 so I made her a very special clay book mark and sent it to her).

I’d love to see your art journal when you make it! I shall watch out for it making an appearance on your blog.

Your poor daughter! She must have suffered some real discomfort. Thank heavens she worked out what was causing the problem and knew what to do to put the problem back in it’s ‘box’. Hope she’s much improved now, and continues to be so.

Thanks for taking the time to comment LemonD. It means the world to me when folks leave a note behind. It’s great on two levels: It gives me a bit of feedback on my posts, and it also get’s us all chatting to each other – which in this age of internet/computer life we are all living in now, is WONDERFUL. It means we’re still talking to each other rather than becoming zombies who no longer know how to converse. eeek! I don’t want to think about a future like that! 😮

    1. Sambucol Ellderberry‘ … I haven’t heard of this before. I shall do some searching to find out where I can buy it from. I think you’re spot on when you mention my resistance – we’ve (himself and I) only been saying this past weekend that my immune system must be running on empty and I need something to build it up. I seem to be getting one thing after another over the past couple of years and it’s really wearing me down. So ‘Sambucol Ellderberry’ is now on my list Beverly!

Glad you like the mini. I’m thrilled to pieces that you like it. Many thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, my blog friend.

    1. Hello Catherine! It’s great to see you. 😀

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment, and I’m chuffed to bits that you like the mini. Thank you, my blogging friend. ❤

But … I'm doubly glad that you left a comment … I was in the middle of making a comment on your blog the other day, when my computer turned itself off! (The cheek of it! :O ) Apparently the battery will run out if I forget to plug the darn thing in. DOH! So you posting a comment here has reminded me to go back to your blog and tap out my comment again!

READERS: In case you haven’t met Catherine before … she made a WONDERFUL post on her blog the other day about Angel Policies. If you’re a paper crafter or use embossing folders and/or cutting dies you really NEED to read her post, called ‘Give me a reason to buy your Products‘. It’s a must read article and filled with stuff you need to know.

If you don’t know what an Angel Policy is, I’ll explain it in as few words as I can:
If you buy a music album, then the album belongs to you. But the music doesn’t. Doesn’t matter how much you paid for the album – even if it cost you a Gazzillion pounds – it’s only the album you own. The music belongs to who ever wrote it and played it – so you can’t reproduce it and call it ‘yours’.

It’s the same with crafty stuffs: If you buy a paper pad from a shop – the paper pad belongs to you – but the designs don’t. So you can’t go and reproduce those papers nor can you put them out for re-sale in any way – not unless you have permission from the makers and owners of the designs. Now that you’ve ‘got’ that bit … you have to go and read Catherines post, which you’ll find here: http://prettycolorful.wordpress.com/2014/10/05/give-me-a-reason-to-buy-your-products-2/

Thank you so much for the comment Catherine.

She’s amazing at her job and such a really lovely person too.

I’ve been wondering what you’re up to, because I haven’t seen you for ages. Hope everything is okey dokey where you are, and that everyone is happy and in good health.

I’m thrilled to bits that you like it. All you have to do now, is fill it with your photo’s of days or moments. Tickets, sweet wrappers, receipts, and written memories of things that happened which made you take ‘that’ photograph.

I hope it brings you years of pleasure and that you can pass it on, as a little selection of wonderful memories (inside a pretty book), to your little one.

  7. How did I miss this?! It’s absolutely splendiferously stupendous! There is so much to look at, everytime you look there is something that you didn’t see before.

Also, I want your craft room! With all the fairy themes that you bring to your craft I can almost imagine it as a little hidey hole you get through via a giant toadstool, full of magical items and pixie dust.

It is amazing, and so are you. Such an inspiration 🙂

    1. Ohhh, hello dearest Emma! It’s fantastic to see you here. I’m ‘made up’ that you like the mini album. (for those outside the UK: ‘made up’ is a British term meaning delighted, over the moon, thrilled). When I finished it and was taking the photo’s, I actually thought about you and wondered if this was your sort of thing.

You’re like me in some ways and you like the details. The little things which your eye doesn’t instantly see, but you discover later.

I adore your description of my craft room! Ohh that it were like that – a hidey hole I get to by going through a giant toadstool. How fantastical! It’s actually a (nicely) converted garage, but when you get inside it, it does have some magical items – and it actually does have it’s fair share of Fairy Dust too. (I honestly think you’d love it. It would take you at least a week to look at everything which is in there!). One day – when I’ve cleaned it up and before I’ve got it messed up again, I’ll take some photo’s and share them here, so that you can see it.

Thank you for visiting, Ems, it means the world to me – and I love you for it. ~ Cobs. x
